There are many things that I could relate to when it comes about being a fan of someone or something.
The way becoming a fan can either good or bad, depending on how we see it. For example, parents might think that it’s a waste of money purchasing goods/merchs/albums of someone that you are a fan at. However, it feels different towards yourself as a fan, when you purchase the goods, when you see them happy from far away place, when you hear them, or any news about them.
But it can push you to a brink of becoming obsessive fans - which can basically affect your daily life.
Another POV from business perspective, the way the marketing being marketed at this book does make me feel scared.
Overall, IMO, entering a fandom, sometimes similar to entering a cult >_<
How do we live in a society where there is no clear definition of "good", no "god", no answer at all about how one should tackle this mad exercise of life?
With "In The Megachurch" Ryo Ishii's answer is "simping". Well, not necessarily as a "correct answer", but more as a sub-conscious coping mechanism for dealing with a dire lack of purpose.
Wow, what a read! It won the 2026 Honya Taisho (Bookstore Prize), where the voters are bookstore staff, and now I know why. It was so timely and entertaining that I finished it in three days. Fantastic.
