I write romance novels. Or I did. Now I’m learning how to survive in a galaxy that treats combat like a game.
After being snatched from Earth and rescued by mercenaries, I discover the universe runs on contracts, credits, and cold math. Stats decide who lives. Levels decide who dies.
I can’t afford a ride home, and Earth is under siege by aliens who don’t respect boundaries or planets. So when the mercenary company offers me a deal, I accept.
I’ll train. I’ll level up. I’ll fight.
Because if I ever want to see Earth again, I’ll have to earn it one kill at a time.
Level One is the gritty first book in the Galactic Merc science fiction series. If you like space battles, reluctant heroes, and game-style progression, you’ll love Chris Kennedy’s action-filled read.
Think of D&D, make it with laser rifles and high tech and pretty much get this book Team of mercs of various levels, all trying to earn experience points to then gain their next level Along comes a human, with zero understanding of the whole concept, or even the universe he is now in and you have the premise of the whole story It's very well thought out, not ground breaking, but clever enough and it pulls you along as the Human learns how it all works Nice start to a series. Looking forward to book 2
Another well written story from Mr. Kennedy. There is great character development and world building in this first book of a three part series. The story kept me on the edge of my seat with lots of action, excitement, and battles with aliens, as the kidnapped author from earth learns to be a space mercenary in a gaming type environment.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Loved the world building and the idea of this book. I struggled to like the main character, though. He is such a sissy. He's the kind of guy that bit only doesn't know how to change a tire, but doesn't see why he would need to when he can just call his dad to do it.
I don't know. I will read the next one. I think he will get more likable as he toughens up a bit, maybe...
I haven’t read much science fiction, but this story sucked me in from the beginning. The characters are relatable, the story is fun, and the adventures are awesome! I can’t wait to read more!
