Serial Chillers: Horror in Hazard: A funny, spooky, sci-fi thriller, perfect for kids aged 9-12 and fans of Goosebumps and Stranger Things. New for 2026!
HORROR IN HAZARD is a series finale that wraps up the overarching mysteries with aplomb - and plenty of scares.
As the series finale, you'd really hope that the answers would finally come to light, and they do. It was so satisfying to find out how the bits and pieces all fit together. This is the first Jennifer Killick series that has this overarching mystery, alongside the book-level adventures and I thought it was pulled off well. It does come out pretty quickly at the end, but this is a series for kids who are more interested in the monster than a grand scheme!
The setting is also a lot of fun. How do you make a theme park more terrifying? Theme it around horror and dystopia - and then have it all come to life. I do not enjoy theme parks much myself (heights = nope) so this just made me even more determined to avoid them. Animatronic zombies that can give you electric shocks going rogue? Giant robocops chasing after you?
At the same time, it's a wish-fulfilment premise for kids who like theme parks. Travis and co get unlimited run of the park for a day, riding a wide variety of rides from drops to laser quests to rollercoasters. It's a really well-chosen setting for just how many things can go wrong.
Unlike many previous Jennifer Killick books, instead of one big monster who turns up several times, there are lots of monster who appear for a short while before being replaced. It's certainly an imagination-fest of the scary and gives the book a fast-paced feeling as you rattle through adversaries.
Wow the gang are back together again to see what really is going on on hazard. They want answers! Travis, Zayd, Dani and Seline head to Apocoland on an end of year school trip, but knowing what they know about Dani's family and Hazard itself, what will be in store for the group?
The books is absolutely fantastic and we finally got to the bottom of everything. The team work together alongside Zayd's crush Oshi to find out exactly what is happening in Hazard.
I lived the character development for Seline, I loved the friendship and the bond all of them have and no doubt this bonded them forever.
I'm sad that this is the last one in the series but they have been a joy to read. I can't wait to see what Jennifer brings to the table next.
I'm a huge fan of Jennifer. She is definitely one of my favorite authors and I thoroughly enjoy reading her books, I can't wait until my son is old enough to read them ♥️.
Honestly, Jennifer Killick’s kids’ horror books just get better. They get scarier, more peril-filled and more creative every time! This time, we come across some terrifying theme park robots, a big bad monster, some deceptive family members and a brand new friend. I loved that this just kept going - I didn’t want to put it down at all. It was perfect train reading! I really hope there’s more from these kids… or just more horror from Jennifer Killick!
