Breaking eye contact on the fifty-yard line would’ve been smart. Instead, I saw him—pom-poms, perfect smile, and the only boy I’ve ever loved.
Eli
Football is my future, and nothing can shake me.
Until Wren Lewis shows up on the Spirit Squad.
My high school boyfriend.
The one I lost because I stayed silent when he needed me most.
Now he’s back, flipping across my field, and I’ll do anything to prove I’ve changed.
I’ve spent four years wishing I could undo that day.
I’ll earn his trust back inch by inch.
Flowers, apologies, and maybe a kiss I’ve been starving for since our senior year of high school.

Wren
I swore I’d never forgive him.
One silence shattered us.
Then fate sticks us on the same sidelines, the same flights, the same hotel lobbies.
And he shows up with apologies I didn’t ask for…and a smile I never forgot.
But Eli is relentless—bigger, steadier, and still looking at me like I’m his whole world.
I want to resist. I need to.
But one slow dance, one stolen touch, and my walls start to crumble.
I crave the man who held me like I was everything.

Christie Gordon

Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back.
When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey).
She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.

I’ve really enjoyed some of Christie’s previous books, and the blurb had me really excited. Sadly, while I loved the concept of the book – I’m a sucker for a good second chance romance – this one didn’t quite hit the spot for me.

Firstly, the things I liked:

1) How much Eli has grown as a person since high school, and that he volunteers at LGBTQ helpline to help others
2) The obvious connection between Wren and Eli
3) Wren’s close relationship with his mother
4) Eli’s supportive friends
5) That Eli kept a memento to remind him of Wren
6) The spice is pretty spicy.

What I didn’t enjoy so much:

If I’m being honest, the pacing didn’t quite work for me; I thought the story was too fast paced in some places and felt that too much focus was placed on the secondary storyline between Wren and his father rather than the reconnection between the MMCs, especially at first.

IMO Wren gave Eli another chance a bit too quickly, even though I appreciate that the rest of the story was about the former learning to fully trust him again. (Looking at other reviews, this is very much just me though!)

Unfortunately, I didn’t really enjoy the secondary storyline with Wren’s father either.

If you love fast paced, sweet second chance romances, I think you'll love this one. Don't let my thoughts put you off!

Some of my favourite quotes

He still did it for me. After all this time, no man had ever given me these emotions. He might have broken me forever when he left me. But he deserved a better man or woman than me.

“There’s just something about you, Eli. No matter how hard I try, I can’t keep my distance from you.”

“I’ve thought about you all these years, way more than you know.”

“You stole my breath then, and when I saw you on the field the first time this season, you did it again.”

“Because I never forgot you, Wren. It served as my reminder of what I lost and that I needed to be a better man.”

“Wren, you changed me and you’re still changing me. I’m a better man with you beside me.”

“Wren, live your life as if the money doesn’t exist.”

Redemption and Romance x

4.5 stars

I really enjoyed the vulnerability of Eli and Wren’s second chance story. Their chemistry is electric from the start, despite having parted under such difficult circumstances four years prior.
The history between them felt incredibly real. What Eli did originally totally wrecked Wren, and I completely understood why he found it so hard to forgive Eli, like Wren, I can definitely hold a grudge! However, I truly appreciated Eli’s quiet persistence. He took full responsibility, admitting that his past actions were cowardly, and he put in the work to earn his redemption. It was adorable how was so supportive of Wren, there by his side when he needed support.
While their reunion was very satisfying, I’ll admit I personally might have made Eli work just a little harder for that forgiveness! However, it was definitely nice to catch up with Eli’s old friends again, the Desert Dogs, their presence added great consistency to the world Christie has built. While the dynamic between Wren and his father was a bit mysterious at times, I was so happy to see them get their own version of a Happy Ever After.
This proved to be a perfect one sitting read! If you’re a fan of Christie Gordon’s sports romances, you'll love this one. It has a lot of heart and fantastic pacing. I’m already looking forward to Malik's story!

“My feelings for you never stopped.”

Blitz Replay by Christie Gordon is the third book in the Desert Football series. I loved it. Eli has been my favourite character in the series ever since he first showed up in Hidden Plays. He’s easily the most level-headed of the “Desert Dogs”, the group of friends who live together while studying and playing football at ASU.

In this book, Eli reconnects with his high school boyfriend (and his one true love). Things ended badly between them back then because Eli was a coward and didn’t handle things well. Wren still hasn’t forgiven him for what happened four years ago, but Eli doesn’t give up. He wants to prove him that he’s grown up, matured, and is now someone worth taking a chance on.

“No fucking way. As my jog slowed to a walk, my arm dropped and my jaw fell, my chest clenching as if readying for a tackle. Stopping, I stared. I couldn’t help myself. I hadn’t seen him since high school, after our… horrible fucking breakup. Wren Lewis. The only man I’d ever loved.”

“After I broke up with him, I blocked him everywhere and avoided him. If I saw him somewhere, I left. I knew he’d get a scholarship for football somewhere, but I swore everyone who knew me to secrecy. It… it was too hurtful to know, and the only way for me to get over him was to pretend he never existed.”

Eli is determined to win Wren back and show him that he’s always been his great love. Once Wren starts letting his guard down and they find their way back to each other, it’s obvious they’re meant to be. You really get the feeling that they were always going to end up together.

“It’s like I told you. I still have feelings for you. The instant I saw you on the field, it was like… My heart felt like it was ripped from my chest. Is there a chance, Wren?”

And I LOVED how Eli stood up for Wren at Christmas!

The subplot with Wren’s dad is handled really well. There are some heavy, emotional moments for Wren, and Eli is right there for him the whole time, he's someone he can lean on (steady, supportive and loving). It really shows how much Eli cares and how deeply he loves him.

The side characters (Malic, Tex, Grace, and both of their parents) add a lot to the story and help make it feel more complete.

I really enjoyed this book and would totally recommend it. It’s very much in line with everything Christine writes, and honestly, the Arizona universe she’s created is one I’d love to live in if it was real.

I received an ARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

I am not usually a big fan of football romances, but Christie’s Desert Football series has pulled me in. I am more of a hockey fan, and her Desert Ice Hockey series is set at the same college, so there are familiar places as well as periodic crossovers between the jocks from the football and hockey teams. Both series feature a house full of queer players of their sport and the stories tell how each member finds their forever person.

This football series book features Eli, a senior, linebacker for the Desert Dogs at ASU, Gay, volunteer for the LGBTQ hotline, and still in love with his high school ex after three years apart; and Wren, senior, former gymnast and now new member of the Cheer Squad, badly betrayed by Eli all those years ago, nursing a hate for Eli as he tries to forget him still. Both are surprised when they see each other on the field for the first game of the season, each fighting feelings of shame or anger, loss and betrayal, and lingering feelings for what once was between them. For Eli, he has never forgotten Wren, he is the only man Eli has ever loved, and no one else has ever attracted him the way Wren did — and still does. For Wren, the betrayal destroyed all of his trust in Eli, still haunting him with anger over what Eli did, unable to forgive or forget, blocking him from any contact, and bitter to this day. The initial meeting doesn’t seem to offer any possibility of apology or forgiveness, but Eli persists, with the aid of Wren’s roommate and Eli’s teammates, as he tries to get Wren to let him back into his life in small steps. The tale of the development of their second chance romance and the healing of the breach between them drives the rest of the book, along with dealing with lifelong issues with Wren and his dad that sneak into the periphery of his relationship with Eli and his recovery of trust to let him himself love again. The characters are both complex and engaging in their own right, world building puts you on the field during a game or in the room for discussions or intimate moments, we get alternating first person POV for our characters, and an eventual HEA as problems in relationships are resolved. The book captured my interest from the get go, and it kept me interested and involved the whole way through. I could easily identify with the feelings of both Eli and Wren and could understand where they were coming from, while rooting for them to get back together. Their history and the love between them was obvious to all but the two of them, and they were finally able to find their way back to each other for a positive and satisfactory conclusion. If you like college sports romances, be they football or hockey, Christie’s are worth checking out.

I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.

This is Christie's latest addition to her "Desert Football" series about a group of NCAA Division I football players (The Desert Dogs). They all live in a rented house in the Phoenix area while on scholarship at Arizona State University. This is a second-chance romance between Eli (starting linebacker) and Wren (former tumbler on the gymnastics team) who is now an ASU cheerleader.

Eli and Wren first had a romance during high school. Wren was fully-out then, but Eli was still deep in the closet. When Eli overhears some homophobic remarks being made about Wren by some other football team mates, Eli doesn't chime in and defend Wren. Another of Wren's friends happens to catch this interaction and rats-out Eli to Wren, who immediately ends the relationship. Fast-forward to today and now Eli and Wren are both seniors at ASU but don't know they are both students there. Eli catches sight of Wren when the cheer squad is working the sidelines of ASU's opening game and all the old feelings come right back up. Eli decides right then and there to do whatever he can to win Wren back. And so we're off to the races with Eli's attempts at reconciliation which form the main plotline. Along the way we get lots of interaction with the other Desert Dogs. And a plot twist involving Wren's father and their family's multi-million dollar trust fund. And finally, resolution and a HEA that resolves most of the guy's issues and will make you smile!

TBH, I had some problems forming a connection with this book. So only 4 stars. The issue of Eli not defending Wren back in high school was not that big of a deal to me, and Wren has had 4 years to deal with it and move on. Wren should have been more understanding about Eli still being in the closet and not ready to out himself yet. If a gay boy wants to date a hunky football player, then these are the issues you get when both partners are not fully out. And Eli owns his sexuality and should be allowed to come out when he's ready. Yet Wren just refuses to understand and comes across as a whiner to me as Wren makes this issue all Eli's fault. And what mother would name her newborn son Wren, anyway? As much as I loved Eli from the early books in this series, Wren was not very likeable to me and I found myself keeping him at arm's length emotionally instead of embracing him.

This is one of Christie's steamier novels. The heat is turned-up several notches in this one. And get ready to hate Karen, Wren's new stepmother who is out to steal the family fortune. Looking forward to the next one in this series, which focuses Malik as the MC. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Christie Gordon’s Arizona universe of characters and stories is one of my favorites. Her current series, Desert Football, features a squad of queer college football players at ASU. Blitz Replay is the third book in the series and while it can be read as a standalone, the timeline runs somewhat concurrently with the second book (Quarterback Drill) and it might be helpful to read that one first to pick up on some of the references.

Blitz Replay features Eli, a linebacker with NFL aspirations, and Wren, a gymnast turned cheerleader. Both men have a history, with each other, as well with issues with their fathers. Eli’s father is a small minded small town man who struggled when Eli came out to him literally in the airport on the way to college, and Wren’s has been more of an absentee dad over the course of his youth. Eli and Wren were in a secret relationship in high school, which traumatically ended when Eli lost Wren’s trust. Wren did everything he could to forget about Eli and Eli, while also still hung up on Wren, tried to turn his regrets into something positive, volunteering at a LGBTQ hotline on campus in an effort to help others avoid some of his missteps and become a better person. Both are incredibly surprised when Wren ends up on the sidelines, pom-poms in hand, at one of Eli’s games. Eli wants a chance to make things right and ultimately, really wants Wren back; with his prior trust issues stemming from his parental relationship and his lack of faith in Eli from the incident in high school, Wren is not so sure that’s a good idea. But Eli is nothing if not persistent; after all, Wren is the only man he has ever loved and he has confidence he can do better the second time around. Over time, Wren struggles to resist Eli’s persuasive charms, though he still doesn’t have enough trust to officially become boyfriends again. Eli uses his skills from his psychology degree classes and his experience at the hotline, to help Wren address his father issues. In time, the men do, of course, end up with their happily ever after, but not without a few surprise twists along the way.

As with Gordon’s other books, this story is in the first person, with narration by both main characters and they’re so descriptive about appearances, their surroundings, and their thoughts. Tropes include second-chance, MM college football, and hurt-comfort and their relationship is super sweet, but also super steamy. I’m looking forward to when the next Desert Dog footballer gets his chance to fall in love in book 4.

3.5 – 4 Stars

I’m a big fan of second chance, it’s one of my favorites and I really felt like Eli and Wren definitely needed a second chance. These two are just supposed to be together! Eli and Wren were together in high school and loved each other even then, but Eli was not out so it was in secret. They had a rough breakup their senior year though, after Eli overheard some nasty things being said about Wren and did nothing about it. It’s a source of pain and guilt Eli still carries and a betrayal Wren hasn’t been able to get over either. The two are reunited 4 years later in college where Eli is a football star and Wren has just joined the cheerleading squad.

It’s clear that these two still have deep feelings for each other right away, that’s just undeniable and as much as Eli has grown from the person he was, scared of coming out and being seen Wren isn’t really ready to see that side of him. Eli is determined to prove himself to Wren though and starts his forgiveness/spoil Wren plan. It’s actually very sweet and made me absolutely love him for it – and it starts to break down some of Wren’s walls too! These two really are very sweet together and this is really their journey of coming back together, forgiving and healing and really allowing their love to grow. It’s about rebuilding the trust in their relationship and I think Eli does a great job of showing Wren who he has become. It’s hard for Wren to be open to that sometimes and it doesn’t help that he has such a broken relationship with his dad, something that really comes in to play for him.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, it was touching and heartwarming and at the same time spicy and fun. It’s not overly angsty or dramatic between Wren and Eli more about that rebuilding and working through trust issues. Eli is a great support to Wren when he needs it and I loved that for him. I thought this was a nice addition to this series and do love seeing the other guys still around and I’m looking forward to more.

BLITZ REPLAY (DESERT FOOTBALL 3) DI CHRISTIE GORDON

RELEASE: 30/12/2025

5⭐ 4 🌶

RECENSIONE:
Che libro meraviglioso! L’ho amato tantissimo!

BLITZ REPLAY (DESERT FOOTBALL 3) BY CHRISTIE GORDON

5⭐ 4 🌶

I really loved this book! It was cute and sexy.
We met Wren and Eli: they were in love and had a secret relationship during high school. Even if they both loved each other madly, one day one of Eli’s football friend said something homophobic against Wren and Eli didn’t step up for his boyfriend. Unfortunately, Wren’s bestfriend was in the bathroom too and went to Wren who dumped Eli immediately (even if they loved each other).
They met 4 years later at the same college during a football match where Eli was playing and Wren was in the cheerleader group. After all this time both couldn’t forget each other and Eli (now out and proud) tries with everything he can to have Wren back…
I really love Cheistie Gordon writing style and her romances are cute, sexy and low angst, perfect! Can’t wait to read the next romance!

Christie Gordon brings up back to field with Blitz Replay. This is the third book in the Desert Football Series. In Blitz Replay we get to see ASU linebacker Eli find love after supporting his friends through so many of their journeys.
Eli is a giant linebacker on the football field, hoping to get a spot in the NFL draft. When he is off the field, he is a sensitive, supportive and caring guy. He has spent his college years making amends for hurting the one person he ever loved, his high school boyfriend Wren. Eli was afraid to come out when he was in high school and it drove them apart. He works to make himself a better person and is proud to be out and support others. Eli is shocked when he sees Wren on the sidelines as a member of the college cheer squad. The one person he could never forget is there in front of him and hates him.
Wren has never forgiven Eli for breaking his heart in high school and had no idea he was at the same college. Wren wants nothing to do with Eli, despite Eli’s attempts to earn his forgiveness and win his heart. Wren doesn’t trust easily and does not know if he can risk trusting Eli with his heart again as a friend or as a boyfriend.
I loved this story. Eli is one of my series favorites so I was thrilled to see him get his own book. Wren is a complex character, he is hurting and his trust is broken but he wouldn’t hurt so much if he did not still love Eli. While this is considered a hurt/comfort story it is unique because the person who did the hurting is the one who wants to do the comforting. I love everything Christie Gordon writes and this book is no exception. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Eli and Wren were high school sweethearts, but their relationship fell apart after Eli failed to stand up for Wren when his friends made homophobic remarks. At the time, Eli was still in the closet and was terrified of how his friends and family would react if they found out he was gay. When this reached Wren, he understandably left Eli, breaking both of their hearts.

Eventually, before leaving for college, Eli came out to his parents and started college openly, no longer hiding who he truly was. His relationship with his father wasn’t easy at first, but his dad is trying to accept his son.

When Eli realizes that the cheer team includes none other than his ex—his former gymnast love, who was forced to give up gymnastics due to constant injuries—he begins to believe that maybe it isn’t too late to fix what was broken.

Meanwhile, Wren’s trust issues come to the surface—not only because of what happened with Eli, but also due to his strained relationship with his father.

This book beautifully shows how much Eli is willing to do to regain Wren’s trust and earn a second chance—to prove that he still loves him. Eli supports Wren unconditionally and helps him begin his healing journey, staying by his side the entire time.

I absolutely loved their shared moments, whether they were spicy scenes or sweet, tender ones. I adored their friends and families—almost everyone was incredibly supportive and genuinely lovable.

Even though I haven’t read the other books in this series yet, they have definitely been added to my TBR list.

I received this book as an ARC, and this is my honest opinion.

Eli’s focus on football is what he needs right now. This is the year he will be drafted, so he needs to make sure he isn’t distracted. But the biggest distraction hits him when he sees his ex on the sidelines. His first love and only love, the man he let he down years ago when he needed him most. Eli never thought he would see Wren again. To make up for hurting him. But now he has a chance to make things right. And not only that, maybe even give them a second chance. Because the truth is, it may have been years since their break up, but Eli never stopped loving Wren. And he will do whatever he can to prove that he isn’t the same guy he was in high school. Wren’s never forgiven Eli for not standing up for him. Their break up devastated him and he has done his best to forget Eli and hold on to his anger. But it all comes almost crashing down when he sees Eli again. But even more so when he realizes that Eli isn’t the same boy he was in high school. This version of him is more confident and out and proud. And maybe there were a few things Wren didn’t fully get back then about Eli. But completely forgiving and trusting Eli again with his heart? Well that’s gonna take some time. And he may just let Eli do it. This was a sweet second chance romance. It’s clear that Wren and Eli still love one another and now that they are older and wiser, they have a real chance of being something once more! It was sweet to watch them fall for one another all over again.

Some Loves Deserve a Second Play.

Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Second Chance • Jock/Cheerleader • Hurt/Comfort • Grovel Done Right • Found Family

Blitz Replay is the kind of second-chance romance that understands one crucial thing: love doesn’t fall apart in one moment—but it can be broken by silence. Eli and Wren’s history is messy, unresolved, and emotionally loaded in the best way.

Eli is a protective linebacker who knows exactly where he failed Wren and doesn’t try to excuse it. He shows up willing to do the work—real apologies, real patience, real grovel. Wren, meanwhile, isn’t a pushover. His hurt is justified, his walls are earned, and watching them slowly come down feels honest instead of rushed.

The forced proximity—sidelines, flights, hotels—keeps the tension humming, and the jealousy is sharp without tipping into toxicity. Their chemistry still crackles, but what really sells this romance is the emotional rebuilding: trust earned inch by inch, not handed over because it’s convenient.

What worked: Eli’s persistence without pressure. This is how you write redemption—accountability first, romance second. The found-family team dynamics add warmth and balance to the angst.
What didn’t: Some emotional beats resolve a little faster than the depth of their past hurt suggests—I wanted just a touch more resistance before the final surrender.

Still, this book delivers heart, heat, and a deeply satisfying reunion. Some plays really are worth running again.

BLITZ REPLAY - CHRISTIE GORDON

This is book 3 in the Desert Football series and can be read as a standalone.

Eli and Wren were high school sweethearts but broke up after Wren’s best friend Ethan witnessed Eli not defending Wren to teammates who were talking smack about him. Fast forward 4 years when Eli discovers Wren is now a member of the cheer squad, which means they will see each other all of the time.

Wren had no idea Eli went to the same university as him, and didn’t know if he could ever trust him again. While his roommate Grace had heard Eli was out and proud these days, and volunteered for an LGBTQ hotline, Wren didn’t want to risk being hurt again.

When Eli tries to apologize to Wren, he is shut down immediately and basically told it’s too little too late. But Grace believes in second chances and helps Eli get the opportunity he wants to share with Wren how much he has changed and how sorry he is for what happened in high school.

While taking time to be friends again and learn more about each other, Eli and Wren finally admit they still have feelings for each other, and decide to take a chance on renewing their love and begin dating. As they spend time together, they are able to help each other through some family drama and build a solid foundation for their relationship and work towards a shared future.

Like all Christie Gordon books, the characters and storylines are realistic and compelling, and the reader is emotionally invested immediately. She is a must read author for sure.

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

Wren transferred into Arizona State University (ASU) and is cheerleading. Eli is a defensive linebacker who dated Wren I high school but didn’t defend him when a teammate insulted Wren. Eli wasn’t out at the time and was afraid that the teammate would connect the two. The latter found out and broke up with Eli. Despite Wren’s misgivings, they decide to rekindle their romance. Meanwhile, Wren is estranged from his father who has remarried. The situation escalates when the father confronts Wren about wanting his money.

The plot is not totally straightforward. The storyline deals mostly with the relationship between Wren and Eli, but also has the conflict with the father, with Eli acting as occasional mediator. The author carries it off easily. Wren’s problem with forgiveness is well handed. Eli is shown as a BIG teddy bear who is atoning for his mistake in high school. The two were clearly meant for each other. I was cheering for Eli in his quest to win back Wren, even though I knew they would eventually be together. The description of Wren’s emotional state with regard to his relationship with his father was well done. The secondary characters were very involved in plot development and even contributed to some comic relief. And even the difficulty for Eli’s father to accept his sexuality is quite realistic.

I am a big Christie Gordon fan and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Blitz Replay is Christie Gordon’s latest Desert Football book, and it’s a classic second-chance romance with plenty of heart and heat.

Eli and Wren were high school sweethearts, but things fell apart when Eli, still closeted at the time, failed to stand up for Wren after some homophobic comments. Fast forward a few years and they unexpectedly cross paths again at ASU, with Eli now a star linebacker and Wren on the sidelines as a cheerleader. Cue all the unresolved feelings.

Eli is determined to make things right this time, and I really loved seeing how much effort he put into earning Wren’s trust back. His growth, especially with how he supports Wren and works through his own family issues, felt genuine and well done. Wren’s trust issues, both from Eli and his complicated relationship with his father, added emotional depth and made his hesitation feel understandable.

There’s lots of fun banter with the Desert Dogs, some juicy family drama (including a stepmother you’ll love to hate), and the spice is definitely turned up in this one. While I personally struggled a bit to fully connect with the original breakup conflict, I still enjoyed watching these two work their way back to each other.

Overall, it’s a steamy, emotional second-chance romance with strong found family vibes and a satisfying HEA and I’m definitely curious to see what’s next for this series.

"....I'm a better man with you beside me." (Eli, chapter 13)

"In every situation, I'll choose you....." (Eli, chapter 19)

A wonderful story in second chances and first loves. Eli and Wren were secret high school sweethearts until Wren overheard something about Eli and broke up with him. Now Eli's is the star ASU linebacker and Wren is on the Spirit Squad. Can they overcome the past to love each other again?

As soon as Eli sees Wren on the field he knows he has to do whatever is takes to win Wren back. It's been over two years can Wren forgive him and understand he's changed?

Wren sees Eli and has the complete opposite reaction and wants to avoid him at all costs. But how can he do that when he's at every game? Can he let his walls down and accept Eli has changed and has always loved him?

With the help of their friends, they take a chance on each again. It is harder for Wren but once he understands what happens and why Eli couldn't come out in high school, Wren begins to let Eli back into his heart.

The two work hard on their own feelings, mental health, and acceptance to win their HEA. As expected in a Christie Gordon book, communication between the MMCs and their friends and family helps them come together in the end to find each other and reach their goals.

I received an ARC for this book. Nothing was given or promise for this review.

Christie always does such an amazing job with all of her book and I have loved this series. It brings you love, some family drama, and of course the spice.

Wren and Eli had a secret relationship back in high school, but it all tragically ended when Eli broke Wrens trust and didn’t stand up for him. Eli was not out at that time and has since grown now that he is a senior in college. He is a linebacker with the NFL draft in his future so his main focus needs to be on the game, but when he spots Wren on the sidelines with the cheerleaders he is shocked.

Wren is caught off guard when he sees Eli, he hasn’t spoke to him or wanted to hear about him since high school. All the old feelings come rushing back, but he decides to just avoid him. But that is not easy when you are cheering for his team and your old love is trying to win you back and apologize. Eli has changed and he is determined to show that to Wren.

These two have undeniable chemistry, they can’t fight it no matter how hard they try. Years have passed, but those feelings are all still there buried under the hurt. I loved watching these two find their way back to one another. And Wrens father, whew, he was a piece of work. Talk about some family drama. But Eli was there to help him through it all.

This is book three in the author’s Desert Football series and features Eli, good friends with Casey from Quarterback Drill and his high school ex boyfriend, Wren, now a cheerleader for the team.

I guess I must be a little bit of a bi*ch ‘cause I LOVE me a good grovel and Eli was a world class groveler. He was also the sweetest, most sensitive guy that I can think of right off the top of my head from the team. Yeah, he screwed up, BIG TIME, it’s true, but he had been tormenting himself over it for years until, even though he had been at fault for their relationship imploding, HE was the one I most wanted to console. Now that’s not to say I didn’t love Wren just as much, I did, it’s just that the adorable Eli completely stole my heart.

I’ve long since quit trying to choose a favorite book, what with the author’s many series—it’s virtually impossible when they just keep getting better and better and I fall more in love with each and every one but, as long as she keeps writing ‘em, I plan to keep on reading ‘em. For now though, this is another 5 star read and one I recommend wholeheartedly to other readers.

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

Firstly, let me say I got this copy from the author and this is me leaving my honest review
This is a second chance romance and Eli had some serious growing up to do after he left high school you see he wasn’t out but he did have a Boyfriend who understood and was patient but when some of Eli‘s friends took the Mickey out of Wren and his sexuality Eli didn’t stand up to him. And to make matters worse, Wren best friend was there to hear it. So they broke up. Eli was heartbroken and ended up telling his parents that he was gay at the airport and then he made a run for the gates.
Eli is now in college playing football when he looks over and he sees his ex boyfriend Wren as one of the cheerleaders. And it totally throws him. So this book is really about them to working to see if they have a chance to rekindle they love. And there is a backstory running about the complications that Wren and his father have.
I enjoyed this book. I liked that Wren really took his time to work out what he wanted from Eli. I think both these men knew that they were still in love with each other but trust is a humongous issue. I think they have a strong connection strong chemistry and I do believe that they are soulmates for each other. It was great to see the guys from previous books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Blitz Replay completely swept me up in emotion.

Eli and Wren are beautiful together in that i'm aching for you give me a second-chance way that makes your chest tight and your heart hopeful at the same time. Their history is heavy with regret, so much stupid miscommunication, and hurt that never really faded, so being able to watch them find their way back to each other felt deeply earned.

The hurt/comfort between these two is where the story truly shines. Every apology, every quiet moment between them andevery step Eli takes to prove he’s not the boy who stayed silent anymore made this story that bit better. His determination to show up for Wren, inch by inch, it was genuinely touching, and Wren’s resistance felt honest and deserved. Forgiveness doesn’t come easy here, and I loved that he made him work for it

The on feild scenes added great energy, but it never overshadowed the emotional core. The found family with this whole team has been one of the best and the slow rebuilding of trust all blended together beautifully. When these two finally let their walls down, it was impossible not to root for them.

Blitz replay gives us Eli’s story in the desert football series. It’s a story of Eli‘s redemption and Wren’s forgiveness.

Eli and Wren meet again in their last year of college. They had last seen each other in high school when they had a huge falling out/breakup. Wren broke up with Eli after a poor judgement call on Eli’s part after he didn’t stick up properly for Wren. When they meet again, they soon realize that the feelings between them never died. Eli sets out to prove himself to Wren that he can trust him, proving over and over that he has changed since high school. He is persistent, sweet, supportive, and available. Soon Wren bends and gives Eli his second chance. Eli proves himself many times over to Wren, including a situation with old ghosts and old bullies. Together they navigate Wren’s complicated family situation and in the process, they solidify their bond and their relationship.
We get to see a glimpse of reoccurring characters, and we get to meet some new. I love the way the stories of these football players intertwine, and I can’t wait for Tex’s happy ending!

Overall I loved this story, this series is great and I can’t wait to read more happy endings!

silver bracelet, it's a crow thing, waribashi, Sucky Sucky or Dirty Boy, separate checks?!, peg, stink eye, ham & mash, placeholder rings, the contractor

Author Christie Gordon scores a touchdown with this book! (Yeah, I know that's cheesy, but it's true!) Though you may want to hold on--it's a bumpy ride. It's super angsty and steamy, with some side plots. Put everything together, and you get a great read that'll grab and pull you in until the end.

Eli was closeted high school football player in an equally clandestine relationship with classmate gymnast Wren. They were perfect for each other until Eli didn't stand up for Wren when his friends made homophobic slurs behind Wren's back. When Wren finds this out, he feels betrayed by Eli and breaks up with him.

Four years later, Eli sees now-cheerleader Wren on the sidelines of their college's football game. After four years, Eli still loves Wren. Wren is still angry with Eli and his failure to protect him. Eli tries apologizing, but Wren wants nothing to do with Eli.

If you liked the previous books in the 'Desert Football' series, you'll enjoy this book too. I immensely enjoyed this story, and eagerly recommend it!

When Eli stepped onto the field, he did not expect to see his ex boyfriend from High school in the cheerleading squad. He wanted to get drafted at the end of the college year and he did not need anything or anyone causing a distraction.
It is hard to see, Eli, the big caring Linebacker hurting anyone, he is the one others come to with their problems, but when he first clocks Wren, bad memories come flooding back.
Wren does not forgive easily and Eli works hard to gain his trust, but whilst they are taking tiny steps to rekindle their relationship, Wren has an unexpected family drama when his dad makes a call.
I enjoyed the secondary drama as it showed Eli at his best, his level-headedness and his need to comfort all what we as readers know he is good at. Both Wren and Eli had a good group of friends to help put things into perspective. When they cannot resist each other anymore their relationship went into hyperdrive.
Christie Gordon has a way of drawing me into the story and as I feel that I already know the team as they all play a big part in the all books. Next up Malik

Another fantastic story from the Desert Football series.

I really enjoyed Eli and Wren’s story. After that heartbreaking breakup, they deserved a second chance to live their love and this time in the open.

Wren had every right to resent Eli after he didn’t stand up for him. Letting homophobic people talk behind Wren’s back was totally a cowardly move. Especially since he claimed to love him.

But I also understand why Eli didn’t say anything to defend Wren. I feel like Wren was only thinking about his feelings and not Eli’s. He wanted Eli to come out when he wasn’t ready and that didn’t sit well with me.

Wren had a right to be upset but he was kind of a douche to Eli when all Eli wanted was to sincerely apologize.

But I liked that Eli was willing to grovel for however long it took to get Wren to forgive him. He knew he made a mistake and would do anything to rectify it.

Once they got over their issues, they really were right for each other. Eli grounded Wren whenever he spiraled. He was such a teddy bear. They really deserved a second chance to be together and happy.

Looking forward to the next book!

FINALLY WE GET THE DOWNLOW ON ELI’S MYSTERIOUS CHECKERED PAST!🏈🤸‍♂️

I love this series, in fact I love all the sport series this amazing author writes and they just keep getting better and better!

The father of wisdom of the squad - Eli Dawson- Linebacker for the Dessert Dogs needs his team’s help and wisdom this time when his past collides with his future!

His ex boyfriend Wren Lewis is now a cheerleader on the Spirit Squad and holding a grudge for nearly four years…

Will Eli be able to redeem himself for a stupid adolescent mistake he made as an insecure, scared in the closet boy?….

This was a second chance love story with depictions of parental neglect, loss of trust and finding redemption in oneself and loved ones…

The author showcased parental neglect with depictions of addictions very tactfully and heartbreakingly beautifully!

This was not just a second chance for Eli and his forever love-Wren Lewis, but also a second chance for Wren and the man who abandoned him as a child and started the trust issues that lead to his and Eli’s breakup!

I voluntarily received an ARC from the author for an honest non biased review.

In this book, Eli, a linebacker for his college football team is confronted with his high school love, Wren on the team's cheer squad. It's been four years, but Eli has never stopped thinking about or regretting what happened with Wren. He sets his mind to making amends for his betrayal and winning back the only man he's ever loved.

The story was written well, but there were points that don't actually sound like college men. The format was easy to follow. I really liked Wren as a character, and I could really understand his turmoil and trust problems. Eli was a bit pushy, in my opinion, but he does end up redeeming himself for what happened with Wren. I was slightly confused as to the purpose of the secondary plot line within the story, but it definitely showed that Eli would be a healthy support for Wren throughout their journey. For that, I have a lot of respect for him. I'm really proud of the growth that Wren showed throughout the story, and happy that Eli turned his life around and became a better person.

Eli never could have imagined seeing the boy he lost in high school cheering on the sidelines during his opening game. Seeing Wren at ASU immediately brought back a wave of emotions and memories, both good and bad. Wren is reluctant to make conversation with Eli after the past betrayal. They slowly begin talking and rebuilding their trust and connection; everyone needs a Grace in their lives.

I was so happy when Wren was able to start lowering his walls and letting Eli back in. It made my heart so happy that Eli had kept the bracelet all these years. He spent years atoning for not standing up for Wren or himself and becoming a better, more confident man. Eli being able to support Wren through his rollercoaster relationship with his father and redeem himself for the past cowardice. Their happily ever after was everything I wanted! The scenes were so good, especially the shower throwback. Another great addition! I am excited to read Malik’s story.

I received an advanced copy from the author and this is my honest review.

Few scenarios captivate readers quite like the slow-burning relationship between old high school sweethearts. Filled with guilt and apologies, the chemistry between Eli and Wren takes center stage as they grapple with their past.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this story is the supportive cast of friends who help Eli and Wren find their way back to each other. As both boys reflect on what went wrong, their friends encourage vulnerability and open communication, creating a foundation for healing and reconciliation.

The subplot involving Wren’s father and a trust fund keeps readers on their toes. This mystery not only adds depth to the story but also reflects the complexities of family dynamics. The interconnectedness of love, trust, and family obligation keeps you engaged through the story's ups and downs.

Ultimately, the story of Eli and Wren highlights the power of lasting love, proving that even after heartbreak, happiness can emerge. As they navigate guilt and longing, the ending provides a satisfying happy-ever-after, celebrating the beauty of second chances.

This is the third book in the Desert Football series. This is the story of Eli Dawson and Wren Lewis. Eli is a linebacker in his final year of university. He plans to work hard and hopefully get drafted by the pros. Wren is at the University and is a cheerleader with the Spirit Squad. Eli is stunned when he sees Wren on the sidelines. He hasn't seen Wren since high school. Back when Eli preferred to keep his sexual orientation at the expense of speaking up in support of Wren. He destroyed the relationship he had with the man he still loves. Wren remembers Eli as well. All the hurt and disappointment bubble back up. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I received a complimentary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I liked how Eli realized that he had a lot of work ahead of him to earn Wren's forgiveness. He didn't hesitate as he appreciated how much he wanted to fix the hurt and hopefully have the chance to start anew with Wren. I enjoyed this book.

I really enjoyed this second chance college romance. It had a good dose opposites attract and size difference tropes too. Eli and Wren have a complicated history. They were secret boyfriends in high school until Eli allows other people to talk badly about Wren. That betrayal has stuck with Wren for years, causing him to have a hard time trusting other people. Eli feels like he's been hit with a ton of bricks the first time he sees Wren on their shared college campus. Wren is a cheerleader for the football team that Eli plays for so they will be seeing a lot of each other, with a ton of unresolved tension between them. It is very sweet how fast Eli falls back in love with Wren and I also love that Wren doesn't give in right away. Eli does some top notch groveling and has just enough jealousy to make me happy. It's a sweet story and a good continuation for the series and Gordon's entire Phoenix/Tempe universe. Would recommend.
