Former valedictorian, current pothead, and perpetual overthinker, Nomi Wyeth is this close to opening her very own Amsterdam-style cannabis dispensary in the historic Strange Drugs Pharmacy building downtown. Former salutatorian, current doctor, and perpetual try-hard, Julian D’Angelo’s chronic failure to listen leads to a mistake that ruins his reputation and forces him to serve in Sparrow Nook’s family clinic, located next door to the Strange Drugs Pharmacy. But how is Julian supposed to be nice when the woman who stole both his valedictorian title and his heart is planning on opening some mangy weed palace for losers next to his clinic? Through zany zoning hearings and “pot luck” fundraisers, free-spirited Nomi and straight-and-narrow Julian battle against each other all over Sparrow Nook, New Jersey, bringing up old rivalries and older flames in the process. It’s tough to say what will change first—their minds or their hearts—but one thing’s for they’re not going down without a fight.
Laura Piper Lee writes lots of things--desperate pleas to her partner for emergency caffeine, to-do lists that never get done, impassioned texts on her favorite supplements (it's Berberine, look it up)--but she only gets paid to write adult romantic comedies featuring characters as hapless as she is.
Add her newest book, Zoe Brennan, First Crush to your want-to-reads shelf if you love steamy, sapphic romcoms with professorial butch love interests, power play, and lots of wine!
Things you'll find in Zoe Brennan: *A lot of on-page spice, *a sexy, bossy butch love interest, *a LOT of jokes, and *a perpetually single lesbian in a small queer mountain town who's married to her vineyard because relationships are scary.
Add Laura's debut Hannah Tate, Beyond Repair to your to-reads shelf, or hell, if you want to be a hero, buy it even!
Things you'll find in Hannah Tate: *on-page spice *a hot Golden Retriever boyfriend (he even lives in a treehouse y'all) *a LOT of jokes, and * a single mom who's trying to build her whole life from the ground up with two leaky breasts and an infant strapped to her front.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Nomi has Crohn’s and wants to open a dispensary, and honestly? I felt that in my bones. She hides her illness not because she’s ashamed but because she doesn’t want it to become her whole identity and as someone with a chronic illness and a kid with diabetes, that shit hit me. You’re allowed to be a full person, not just a diagnosis. My heart hurt for Nomi 😞
And then there’s Julian. A pretentious, anti-weed doctor who thinks his fancy Yale degree means he knows more about bodies than the people living in them. Again, been there, done that. Watching this book quietly drag medical arrogance while standing up for patient lived experience? Beautiful. No notes.
Also?? This book is funny as hell. The stoner scenes were actually accurate. I actually ended up getting fomo at the Potluck Party scene that I had to take the kindle out to the garage and do some gardenmom activities 🤫😂😂 I laughed out loud more than once. I highlighted several funny moments I wanted to go back to for a giggle.
This story broke down so many stereotypes about cannabis, both medicinal and recreational and chronic illness, while still being a messy, sexy, heartfelt romance. I loved it. Just genuinely so good. Also, any chance of book 2 with…idk Graham or the little evil lesbian? Ijs 😉
I don't know how to rate this in a way that won't affect my algorithms forever. Awful and cringy but in a 2015 broad city way. But I honestly had soooooo much fun reading it. Complicated feelings.
✨️Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
First, the cover art for this novel is beautiful, very much something that would catch my eyes 👀
The story surrounds two absolutely hilarious characters, Nomi and Julian. These two circle each other like vultures looking for their next meal while also fighting their true emotions for each other. Their story was so amusing but also heartfelt, I loved their journey together and apart and how each grew in their own way.
The town itself is a character in its own midst, I can totally relate to Julian being allergic to returning to his hometown because everyone knows everything about everyone which also works for and against him in the novel. The amount of characters that provide support to the story should be overwhelming but instead it felt very nostalgic and was easy to follow. I think not only were the main characters amazing but the other characters sprinkled in really made this story feel like a 90s sitcom.
I cannot rave enough about this one, it is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. While it deals with some pretty heavy topics, I felt the love and care the author took to bring these topics to light. Highly recommend 👌
First and foremost, it’s hilarious from page one. You will laugh in that way that only Laura Piper Lee can make you laugh. Her characters are so real and relatable, and if you’re from South Jersey, you will see yourself, your family, and your entire graduating class reflected in these pages.
Next, I need to take a second to appreciate the RESEARCH Laura Piper Lee did for this book. I’ve always been a huge supporter of cannabis, both medically and recreationally, but holy crap I learned so much reading this book that I kinda want it to be required reading for doctors, those with chronic pain, politicians… and just everyone I guess?! I wish everyone had an advocate like Nomi in their life. Also, it’s such a beautiful middle finger to those in the medical world who just throw opioids at pain.
Of course, I have to mention the spice?!! Oooooh Laura nailed it, as she always does. The tension is sooo yummy with these two, so when it finally pays off, it’s SO GOOD 😍🔥🤩 Also, Laura, I blame you for the fact that I find sunscreen application impossibly sexy now…
Ugh. This is one of those books that I’m so sad I finished. I just wanted it to keep going. I can’t wait to read it again when the physical copies come out, if for no other reason than to relive the “tight butthole” conversation 😂
A few favorite bits: - The NJ accuracy of having a cousin named after a frozen pizza brand. - Respect for the New Jersey “j’eat.” - “Justice for Rose DeWitt Bukater.” - I will forever ponder what aliens will think when they dig up our ceremonial scissors.
I love when books find you at the right moment. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Pot Shot while I was going through a really difficult time. I hadn’t been reading much (trauma will do that to you,) but one night when the insomnia was raging, I picked up Pot Shot and gave it a whirl.
It became a bright source of joy during a dark time, and I think I will feel forever indebted to Laura Piper Lee for helping me through it.
Thank you, Laura. Congrats on Pot Shot, I can’t wait for everyone to read it. You knocked it out of the park, yet again! 💚
This book made me feel so GOOD. It’s ok to get help, and it’s ok if that help is not big pharma! I have trouble with that one. I’m always pulling up my big girl panties and doing too many hard things, when what I need is ease and creature comforts. Julian (beautiful Julie) showed up as Max Greenfield in my mind, which was fun. Highly recommend this one for all who partake and especially those that don’t.
Pot Shot is one of those books that grabs you immediately and then refuses to let go. It is hilarious from page one in that very specific way Laura Piper Lee excels at, the kind of humor that sneaks up on you and has you laughing out loud while also thinking, wow okay that hit a little close to home. The characters feel so real it is almost unsettling. If you are from South Jersey, congratulations, you will recognize your cousins, your neighbors, and at least half your graduating class in these pages.
Nomi absolutely stole my heart. She has Crohn’s, she wants to open a dispensary, and she refuses to let her illness become her entire identity. That alone wrecked me. She is allowed to be a full person, not just a diagnosis, and watching her advocate for herself and others felt powerful, validating, and honestly emotional in ways I was not expecting from a romcom. This book handles chronic illness with so much care and nuance, showing the day to day realities without pity or preachiness. It was deeply affirming and quietly radical.
Then there is Julian. At first he is a pretentious, anti weed, Yale educated doctor with a spectacular case of medical arrogance and a stick firmly lodged where it does not belong. Watching this book lovingly but firmly drag that mindset while centering patient lived experience was incredibly satisfying. His growth arc is one of the best parts of the story. Yes, he will annoy you. Yes, you will want to shake him. And yes, you will eventually love him. Watching him learn, listen, and actually show up for his community made his redemption feel earned and deeply rewarding.
And somehow, while tackling stigma, chronic illness, and the failures of modern medicine, this book is also funny as hell. The stoner scenes are accurate. The pot luck fundraiser is pure comedy gold. I laughed out loud more than once and highlighted so many moments just to come back to later for a giggle. The New Jersey details alone deserve their own standing ovation, from the cousin named after a frozen pizza brand to proper respect for the j’eat.
The research in this book is outstanding. The discussion of medicinal and recreational cannabis is thoughtful, informed, and eye opening. I learned a lot, and it honestly made me want to hand this book to doctors, politicians, and anyone who still thinks throwing opioids at pain is the only answer. This story breaks down stereotypes without ever feeling like a lecture, weaving education seamlessly into humor, heart, and very real human experiences.
Let us also talk about the spice. Because wow. The tension is delicious, the payoff is worth every second of buildup, and I am now unfortunately attracted to sunscreen application and men in hoochie daddy shorts. Aunt Edna is a national treasure, Burt Reynolds thighs are forever, and the apology outfit recommendation alone deserves its own fan club.
At its core, Pot Shot is messy, sexy, heartfelt, and deeply human. It balances laugh out loud comedy with genuine emotional depth, tackles big topics without losing its romcom soul, and leaves you feeling both entertained and seen. I read this during a really hard time, and it became a bright source of joy when I desperately needed one. I was genuinely sad when it ended and cannot wait to reread it in physical form just to relive certain conversations that still make me laugh.
If you want a smart romantic comedy with heart, substance, and characters that feel like people you actually know, pick this one up. Pot Shot is funny, emotional, sharp, addictive, and deeply satisfying. Highly recommended. Wink wink ;)
What originally drew me to Pot Shot by Laura Piper Lee was the cover (I am not a smoker but it was beautiful and intriguing for obvious reasons), but wow, I had no idea this book would be SO FREAKING GOOD. I was completely blown away for so many reasons.
First of all, this book is hilarious. Julian + the pot luck fundraiser? Absolute nonstop comedy gold. The humor and banter were spot on, laugh out loud funny, and honestly exactly the kind of comedic relief we need right now. Every interaction came with so much tension and wit, and I loved how sharp and layered the dialogue was.
Julian and Nomi are true rivals from the start, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. The attraction is obvious, but it’s buried under years of misunderstandings, resentment, and old wounds. Julian definitely pissed me off at times, but he had valid reasons, and that made his arc so satisfying. I grew to love him SO MUCH. Underneath his rigidity and frustration, he truly has a heart of gold. Watching him grow into his role as both a family physician and a caretaker of the community was incredibly rewarding, and I adored seeing him finally step into that responsibility with intention and compassion.
Laura Piper Lee’s research deserves major praise. The handling of marijuana, like its medicinal use, stigma, and legality was thoughtful and well-informed. The same goes for Nomi’s Crohn’s disease and the very real illnesses, symptoms, and challenges faced by patients who benefit from medicinal cannabis. Nothing felt shallow or glossed over. There was real care, education, and nuance woven into the story, which I loved. I genuinely learned a lot while reading this, and that’s always a bonus for me.
This book had depth, growth, and a fantastic plot that balanced humor with heart. The spice? 🔥 HOT, but also completely earned. This wasn’t rushed or gratuitous; it felt like the culmination of years of tension, longing, and emotional buildup, and it hit perfectly.
Add in a stunning cover, meaningful representation, and characters that truly evolve, and you’ve got an amazing read! Pot Shot was funny, emotional, smart, and deeply satisfying, and it completely exceeded my expectations. Highly (pun intended) recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley, Laura Piper Lee, and Union Square & Co. for the eARC of this book.
I truly may have to name my hypothetical firstborn NetGalley for how grateful I am to get read so many amazing ARCs.
I absolutely love LPL - her stories feel like butter. They naturally flow so well. Her voice is easy and hilarious. Her characters are so authentic and genuine. There is always grounded representation in her books. Even with the core of her books being so similar, the stories are also so incredibly distinct and unique. You can be laughing out loud one sentence and then immediately texting your therapist the next - and I always feel so profoundly seen, loved, and valued. And this is only her third book (!!) so far (read Hannah Tate, Beyond Repair and Zoe Brennan, First Crush immediately if you haven't yet!)
So with all of that said, I'm not necessarily surprised or shocked with how much I loved Pot Shot. It's a LPL book, I knew I would love it, but somehow I'm still filled with awe at just how DEEPLY this one hit.
I was born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey, and even though I live in PA now Jersey will always be home. MAN this book is Jersey through and through. Granted, Toms River is in the elusive Central Jersey, not South Jersey like Sparrow Nook. Toms River is not a small town by any means (we have three high schools, all with hundreds of kids in each graduating class). But still, I felt like I knew Sparrow Nook. I was in that car with them going to Wildwood for the weekend. I FELT the anger about using corporate rolls. I felt the Jersey pride in each page.
The representation in Pot Shot is incredible. I don't have Crohn's disease, but I could feel the impact that this raw depiction will have on readers. Getting to see the guilt, shame, pain, and anguish a chronic illness can cause - just amazing. A BIPOC lesbian, friendship in its purest form, and unlearning childhood trauma in tangible ways? All just...amazing.
I love everyone in this book so so much. I canNOT wait for my pre-ordered copy to come!! May 19th (plus time for shipping) cannot come soon enough!!
**Thank you Laura Piper Lee and NetGalley for the ARC**
Second Chance and Enemies to Lovers rolled into a delicious romance blunt. While this was low on the spice radar, it was high on angst and off the charts on humor!! I was wheezing on the very first chapter.
Be still my heart. Naomi Wyeth is personality and career path goals. If I handled any minor inconvenience in even half as well as she handles her illness, then I would be winning at life. Her character is nothing short of amazing. Yes. She has her short comings with not letting people in, and who can blame her? Naomi keeps her illness to herself, not wanting it to be her whole identity and the only thing people see. Instead of letting it defeat her, she turned what helped her the most into a business adventure. Opening a dispensary in town.
Enter Julian D'Angelo. The holier than thou, anti-marijuana, stick up his butt doctor who has returned to town from his "Im too smart for you" life as an ER doctor. Julian is working at the local general practice while he is on probation from his previous job in order to learn better bedside manners.
Julian's very first interaction with Naomi after not seeing her for 15yrs was hysterical!! >>That scene will live rent free in my head for years to come and I am totally good with it!!<< Julian quickly realizes his high school crush is still very much alive.
Without spoiling the entire plot, this story is packed with big attitudes, character growth, extreme humor, dialog that introduces different illnesses and what people go through with them in terms of pain and comfort (very eye opening!), and lots and lots of pot.
I also have to mention Aunt Edna. She is a damn gem!!!! Can I just say, IT'S HOOCHIE DADDY SEASON!! I will forever associate Julian's character with sexy men in short shorts. I AM A FAN of the thick tree-trunk thighs in some Burt Reynolds shorty-shorts. Thank you Aunt Edna for your apology outfit recommendation. Take notes men.
Overall, this was such a pleasure to read. I highly >>wink wink<< recommend this to anyone who loves a good romcom.
I have been waiting for a book like Pot Shot by Laura Piper Lee my entire life. As a cannabis-loving NJ/Philly girl and a die-hard romance reader, this was an instant 5 stars for those two reasons alone. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Add in the fact that I laughed out loud at least four times before I was even a quarter (get it?) of the way through the book, and I was fully sold.
The author does a fantastic job educating readers about cannabis—its many uses and the ways it helps so many people medicinally—without ever feeling preachy or heavy-handed.
Nomi and Julian were high school debate rivals and almost-something ten years ago, until Nomi’s Crohn’s disease sent her life down a very different path. Now Julian is back in Sparrow Nook, NJ after landing on probation from his ER job in Philly, while Nomi is finally making her dream happen: opening a dispensary in her hometown. Oh—and she’s leasing the space right next door to where Julian is working. What could possibly go wrong? 😏
✨ Spice Scale: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (open door, chemistry-forward, very satisfying) ✨ Tropes: Second chance • Rivals to lovers • Small town • Forced proximity • Chronic illness rep • Cannabis culture
Whether you’re cannabis-friendly or just looking for a romance that has absolutely nothing to do with sports, Pot Shot deserves a spot on your TBR. I already can’t wait to reread it—and I’m especially excited to experience the audiobook when it publishes in May.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an early copy and my honest review!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This story surrounds two absolutely hilarious characters, Nomi and Julian. Nomi and Julian have known each other since high school and now fast forward 15 years are now rivals with businesses directly next to one another, and did I mention Nomi’s business is setting up a dispensary for their small town and Julian is working at the local primary care clinic and HATES weed. No hard feelings there right, WRONG.
This book thrives on all my favorite tropes, second chance, enemies to rivals to lovers, small town. The town itself is a character of its own accord and the amount of characters that provide support to the story should be overwhelming but instead it felt very nostalgic and was easy to follow. The dialogue and banter between the supporting characters kept me laughing for days.
While this novel deals with some pretty heavy topics (chronic illness. Anxiety, grief, substance use), I felt the love and care the author took to bring these topics to light, plus her humor is evident in every page but does not take away or diminish the importance of these issues in anyway; if anything the humor adds more humanity to it. Highly recommend!
Also on a personal note of someone who works in a small town at a local primary care clinic I can say some of Julian’s interactions are so spot I could not help but have visceral reactions because I too have experienced similar things in real life so shoutout to Laura Piper Lee for doing her research 👏
This book is everything I love in romance. It's funny and witty, filled with playfulness and banter. But it also has layers. Julian has preconceived notions about the cannabis industry because of his childhood but the woman he has always been drawn to - Nomi - is a cannabis connoisseur, and someone who wants to show a community she cares for the benefits of cannabis for a myriad of uses, including for her own health. but Julian, despite his feelings for Nomi, starts a war with her to stop her from opening her dispensary.
Julian and Nomi both grow so much throughout the novel. Julian becomes more open minded as his priorities and his wants out of life change. Nomi finally let's Julian in, despite her attempt to keep him at a distance because of her health.
Pot Shot has the perfect amount of yearning, the perfect amount of push and pull between Julian and Nomi. They balance each other out and I love their dynamic. While this was very much a slow burn for me, the pacing of their relationship felt perfect for them.
I also love that this author tapped into the topic of cannabis since it still feels very taboo and it's not something I see very often, especially in the romance genre.
I ADORED this book!! I hope this author follows up with some of the supporting characters because I loved Eve and Graham so much too!
thank you netgalley and the publisher for the earc!!
As a Philly girl, I'm here for the mentions of the Philly Phanatic, Wawa and Sarcone's but I'm staying for the hilarious and heartfelt story that is Pot Shot.
Nomi is suffering from Crohn's Disease and has turned to cannabis to find some relief from pain because more traditional medicines have failed her. She is on track to open a dispensary in her small town to help others dealing with chronic illnesses until her high school hook-up turned nemesis, Julian, comes back to town. Doctor Julian is against the use of pot and sets out to stop Nomi from opening her business. He quickly realizes he's still attracted to Nomi and finds himself needing her help to educate him on the use of medical marijuana and a better bedside manner to get out of a work probation.
Did I mention this book is hilarious? I don't know how Laura Piper Lee took the pain and loneliness of chronic diseases like Crohn's and Parkinson's and turned it into a laugh out loud book but here we are. This book is a reminder to all that you should be accepted and loved for your whole self, even the parts that occasionally shit fire!
4.5 stars
Thanks to NetGalley, Laura Piper Lee and Union Square and Co. for the ARC of this book!
🍁High School Rivals 🍁Forced Proximity 🍁Rom-Com 🍁Chronic Illness Rep 🍁Opposites Attract 🍁Make him beg 🫡🩳
This book was so much fun, it was enjoyable on so many levels and full of hilarious situations. I highly recommend if you are looking for a steamy rom.. It’s the perfect balance of light hearted comedy while navigating heavy topics and chronic illness. The discussions are woven in so seamlessly and wrapped carefully in patients lived experience.
Nomi and Julian's romance is so much fun, truly a rival/enemy to lovers situation and full of insane tension.
I found so many parallels between my own experiences and the experiences of the main character Nomi, the profound struggle of feeling trapped in your own body. When the invisible becomes visible and you can no longer hide your illness away, the rawness of sharing your situation with others and the violent loss of privacy that entails. The fear of being seen only as your diagnosis. I could go on forever about all the ways I relate but the point is the author gets it, and I found very meaningful representation in this story at a time where I needed it and I’m so grateful.
Hilarious and sweet, this THC-infused romcom is just what the doctor ordered! Nomi went from valedictorian to pothead and former rival turned love interest turned nemesis Dr. Julian is having none of that. He's back in town after he messed up big time as an ER doctor and has been banished to a family practice.to work on his bedside manner. But as Nomi is setting up a marijuana dispensary, he's determined to fight her every step of the way, saving the town and Nomi herself. But does Julian know anything at all about marijuana? Or is he just letting his past influence his present?
Ooh, I almost DNFed this one because the male MC was a giant bag of dicks. He was THE WORST! I found it hard to believe a young doctor could be so incredibly ignorant! Do doctors really not learn anything about marijuana in medical school? But there's an arc for him. Also, I can't remember the last time a book made me cackle so much! The scene near the beginning at the party after he fell off the roof!?! Hilarious!
Of course, I love this book. I poured all my complicated feelings about Crohn's disease, the medical industry, cannabis, and trying to live your life even when your body undercuts you at every step into this story. I also think it's the funniest thing I've ever written and incredibly hot.
This book will not be for everyone. If you don't like rom-coms that are rompy, full of hijinks, with lots of big personalities, this one might miss you. But if you grew up watching rom-coms and love big, crazy, silly scenes, if you love Broad City and Parks & Recreation, if you love to garden, if you LOVE stoner comedies of old and wish they centered women and women's pleasure instead of the same old doofus men, POT SHOT is for you. <3
This was a complete and utter delight! We love a book that can make you teary eyed at the dedication and then immediately laugh out loud in the first paragraph (two words, pube chores).
Pot Shot is about Nomi, a stoner who uses weed to manage her Crohns disease, on a quest to open her own dispensary so she can help others learn the physical and mental health benefits. Enter her old high school rival (just call him your crush Nomi) Julian. Julian's back in their small town after an incident at the hospital he's been working at and makes it his mission to oppose Nomi at every turn.
For those who haven't had the joy of reading a Laura Piper Lee book she genuinely makes her romcoms SO funny. This was no exception. I laughed throughout, while slowly falling in love with all the characters and this quirky little Jersey town. Now if you're like me, in the beginning you are going to say to yourself, how is this a romance I kind of hate Julian. I bet you to keep going! This man goes through some character development! I loved Nomi immediately, but ended up loving her and Julian together. Nomi's journey with Crohns was so amazing to read about. While I don't have Crohns I do have endometriosis so the worry, shame, and pain Nomi deals with felt so deeply relatable. I could say a million more things but I'm just gonna end with you MUST read this book.
This is definitely Laura Piper Lee's best book yet. As a Jersey girl, I love the positive representation of my state with lovable, fun characters and a progressive storyline. I was laughing out loud from the very first chapter.
Laura has a gift for creating characters that feel like people you actually know, and Nomi and Julian's tension-filled chemistry is so relatable. The scene where Julian unknowingly get himself into a "pot luck" fundraiser had me dying, because I could absolutely see the same thing happening to me.
If you want a smart romantic comedy with heart AND substance, pick up Pot Shot. Even if you're not sure where you stand on the cannabis debate (which, as you can tell, is central to the story), you'll leave feeling a little more educated and in love with this love story.
Nomi has Crohn’s and wants to open her own dispensary. Cannabis has helped her and now it’s helping the people around her. Julian is a Yale graduate doctor who has very strong opinions on cannabis and the people that use it. He also thinks this degree means he knows more and his bedside manners are let’s just say non existent.
I was laughing throughout the whole book, the characters were so relatable, and the sexual tension between Nomi and Julian was amazing.Laura Piper did an amazing job braking down stereotypes for both the medical and recreational users. She did a lot of research into cannabis and I love that. I recommend this book for everyone even if you’re not a user or you’re not sure your stance on cannabis. You will leave a little more educated and loving a good love story.
Thank you to Net Galley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to netgalley and Union Square & Co. for the ARC 🫶🏼
Pot Shot is a sharp, addictive read that hits its mark from the very first page. This ARC completely pulled me in with its fast pacing, hilarious banter, and characters that felt so oddly familiar i just wanted to be in their inner circle.
While I love me a good rom com this book had SO MUCH MORE. It addresses chronic illness and battling with our own and societal pressures of what “should be.” Our main characters Nomi and Julian are perfectly flawed in so many ways it’s hard to not love them.
If you’re going to gift yourself or a friend a book that gives you all the feels, let it be Pot Shot.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC of this book.
What absolute delight this book turned out to be. I'm not typically a fan of contemporary romance but I knew I absolutely had to have this book the second I saw the cover. It did not disappoint. I laughed, cackled, cried, kicked my feet, and gasped in shock. This was an insightful look into chronic pain that has convinced me that the author must know someone or is someone who has chronic pain. The isolation, the fear, the constant anxiety... it was palpable and gave you a very deep love of the characters in this story. Julian's redemption arc was pretty solid, too. I can't wait for a physical copy of this book. It is a re-read for sure!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I’m gonna be so honest, I really disliked this book. Both main characters are insufferable stereotypes and are not likeable at all. Even the side characters annoyed me.
I’m really sad I didn’t like this because I loved the last book I read by this author. This just felt like her writing took a massive step back. It felt very immature and the “jokes” were not funny.
Well hot damn, this was a TRIP. Absurdly funny, sickeningly sweet, and we *love* a man who gives good grovel. I can't say whether this was an accurate depiction of living with a chronic illness, but I was stoked that it was truly a constant theme and not just a footnote. I love Nomi AND her sh*tting disease <3
PS: !!!hot girls have tummy troubles!!!
PPS: I am not a human medical professional and cannot speak to the attitudes of real-life doctors, BUT Julian's characterization and decisions at the start almost put me off the whole book. He is imho (**in the beginning), a terrible representation of an actual physician and I had to suspend major disbelief at the start of his character arc. HOWEVER, I am so glad I stuck with it because wow I love that doofus now.

Thank you Laura Piper Lee and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC copy.
*I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*
I laughed out loud at parts of this. The big Italian family with all of the cousins reminded me a lot of my own. AND they summer in Wildwood! Found the chronic illness and medical benefits of the THC really interesting. I love when rom coms have more than the typical back drops.
