They stole her house. Ever since she was eight years old, Alexis has dreamed of living in the beautiful white house at the end of Arbor Lane. So when another buyer snatches it away with a cash offer, she's devastated.
Her husband, Danny, suggests one night of revenge. Just a few eggs. Maybe some spray paint. What's the worst that could happen?
But when they decide to break in, they discover they're not alone.
The dream house is not what it seems. It's full of secrets, and now Alexis and Danny have seen too much. If they want to get back to their daughter, Lilly, they must bury the truth before the morning comes and the neighbors see what they've done.
In the right house, dreams come true. But in the wrong house, they turn into nightmares.
A jaw-dropping psychological thriller with shocking twists, perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Lisa Jewell, Daniel Hurst, and Nicola Sanders.
My first book from this author and I just read it in one sitting. Loved it. Very twisty and a bit darker than Freida McFadden but has a similar fast pace. Entertaining and unexpected with a great, satisfying ending.
THE WRONG HOUSE BY ZIA RAYYAN. 5 ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨s. I loved this book. I literally binge read this book and it was finished soooo quick. Great characters. Twist that I didn't see coming at all. This is my first book by this author and it definitely won't be the last ☺
I got this as an ALC from Librofm. This was a decent thriller, I finished it in an afternoon. While I was engaged throughout the story, ending felt very disjointed from the story, and I ended up with more questions. So I don't personally feel the landing sticks.
I think if there was more explanation/backstory before we got to the end it may have had more impact.
This was a quick read. Definitely kept me hooked but I found the “Brittany” character to be annoying because of the fact she was so hung up on something from high school. It was a tad juvenile for my liking but still a decent, quick read.
This book takes place in one night, fast paced psych thriller, so much crime being committed, murder, revenge, and who doesn’t love a nice twist at the end.
What would you do for your dream home? For Alexis and Danny, the answer is a "harmless" prank that spirals into an absolute nightmare. After losing the house on Arbor Lane to another buyer, their attempt to scare off the new owners turns the property into a psychological trap that tests their sanity and their survival instincts.
What I Loved
The Unreliable Narrator Alexis is a fascinating POV. Her desperation to protect her daughter, Lilly, makes her unpredictable and constantly shifting. She is always weighing her options, which kept me on my toes throughout the entire book.
The Humor: I wasn't expecting to laugh this much! The dark, satirical dialogue during their most frantic moments (especially while dealing with a nosy neighbor) provided the perfect comic relief without killing the tension.
The Pacing: This is a "just one more chapter" kind of book. The chapters are short and snappy, often ending on cliffhangers. The constant POV shifts between Alexis, Danny, and a mysterious third player made it impossible to put down.
The Verdict
While the ending required a pretty heavy suspension of disbelief and the third character’s backstory felt a bit far-fetched and under explained the journey was absolutely worth it.
If you love fast-paced thrillers with **morally gray characters**, high stakes, and a dash of **absurdity**, you definitely need to pick this up. It’s a twisty, dark, wild ride that keeps you hooked from the first page to the last.
The wrong house by Zia Rayyan was a good thriller. It kept me interested waiting for the hook the ending most definitely could’ve been better overall I give it a two out of five stars.
Could not put this book down!! It grabbed me from the beginning. Very dark and graphic but it goes with the story. A very big twist I really didn’t see coming. A must read for anyone that likes psych/thrillers!!
This is a wild thriller ride. This novel immediately drew me in and did not let go. I devoured this book with every shocking twist. The Wrong House is tense and suspenseful from start to finish with a phenomenal storyline. Having never read this author before, I was drawn to the premise of the novel, but now I want to read all of this author's work.
Thank you, Netgalley and Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op, for the arc.
From the first page to the last I was drawn in. I went from loving to hating a character and enjoyed every single twist of the story. Just goes to show not everything is how it seems! Great book and should absolutely be read
This book had a good start and middle but felt like it dragged into a disappointing far fetched ending. The twist was good but wasn't as jaw dropping as I anticipated.
Wrong House is wonderful crazy reading. I’m sure you will love this book too. Each book Zia Rayyan writes I have loved. I highly recommend reading this book!
I probably said "what the heck" a million times while reading this. I didnt want to put this down but life kept getting in the way but I needed to know what was going to happen. The storyline was just phenomenal and the suspense had my heart pounding.
This is my second book of Zia's and I cannot wait to read the rest of his work!
Wow. What can I say? Zia Rayyan truly knows how to craft a thriller: ruthless, raw, psychological, and gripping from start to finish. The Wrong House is masterfully written, with a narrative that dives deep into every detail without ever feeling heavy, repetitive, or unnecessary.
Rayyan’s storytelling is razor-sharp. The pacing, the twists, the subtle psychological layers; everything feels deliberate, tense, and incredibly cinematic. It’s the kind of book that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go until the very end.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and after finishing this one, I can confidently say: I don’t want to stop. The plot is unpredictable, the turns are brilliantly executed, and just when you think you understand what’s going on… you realize you couldn’t be more wrong. And that ending – my god, that ending. I was so sure I knew whose side I was on. Turns out, I didn’t. No spoilers, just wow.
Thank you, Zia Rayyan, for another haunting, intelligent, and addictive story.
While some authors can make the far fetched and completely unbelievable truly entertaining, it isn’t the case with this book. For the most part this book teeters on the edge of preposterously silly, with white people’s problems at the core (it all starts with a white lady not getting the house she was pining over), but then we reach the point of near twilight zone experience with a plot twist so far out there, you can’t even see it over the horizon, and instead of an entertaining popcorn thriller, we get a frustrating and ultimately pointless ride.
I didn’t like it. There were too many random coincidences that could not be explained in any way. Everything was just so “convenient”. It would have worked much better as a study of dark human psyche, if only it stuck to the consequences of their choice to egg the house and break in. But none of the characters’ actions seemed plausible from the beginning, none of the choices made any sense and, in the end, the final plot twist was nothing more than the last nail into the coffin.
Another cracker from Zia Rayyan, I was lucky enough to read this early as an ARC so I can tell you all that you must read this as soon as it’s released. There’s no waiting around with Zia, straight into a perfectly paced story that has more twists & turns than a snake with an itch. This story is of a couple whose little prank goes a bit too far, fortunately for us readers though, as it leads to death, deception, violence & outright illegal shenanigans. The characters got under my skin, they had me fuming, in a good way! I love it when characters are so well written they can make me mad or frustrated like this. If you’ve read any of Zias previous books you’ll love this just as much, he’s such a consistently good thriller writer, I’m always chomping at the bit for the next book. Triggers: Zero spice. No animals hurt. No children harmed. No SA. Murder. Kidnap. Mild torture reference.
I have never written a review here. Goodreads pops up on my kindle when I leave a rating but I have never had the urge to follow through. Not until now... I have started reading some of the most amazing books ever. The kind where before you finish the first one you go searching to see if there are any more. Huge sigh of relief when you find more, but disappointment that there are not dozens more.
This book (and so far her others) is a whole new level of thrillers. Not formula, not knowing who the "bad guy" is, just one twist after another.
I read this as well a The Newlyweds and The Newlyweds Lie, staying up until about 4am for both. Worth every second.
I am a voracious reader and have been all my life. I get really good use out of my Kindle Unlimited as i read a book in 2, sometimes3 days. I would gladly pay hardcover prices for these books.
I hope that Zia Rayyan keeps writing well into the future cause I will gladly read everything well into the future.
This one kicks off fast, plunging Alexis and Danny into a suspenseful, train-wreck situation that I couldn’t look away from. I was hooked for most of the book, but around 75% in, the story veers in a strange direction that doesn’t quite fit the earlier narrative. The ending feels rushed, and the final plot twists need more setup and information to fully land. Overall, it wasn’t a bad read, but the second half was disappointing. 3.5/5
I am a huge fan of Zia Rayyan - every book has been a 5 star for me, but this one? This one right here? Mind-bending, in the best possible way. I'm almost dizzy from all the twists! He really takes you on such a crazy journey that you never see the end coming. Even when you think you've got it figured out - think again.
I’m giving this three stars (2.5 rounded up) because I was fully invested in the first part of the book. Then it decided to become insane I guess? I usually love twists, but this was too wildly chaotic and not even the slightest bit believable for me.
This whole book happens in one night so that fast paces feeling and being on the edge of your seat really pulled me it. It quickly did start to feel way far fetched and that ending was absolutely terrible and unbelievable.
