A city to defend. An empire to topple. And a street kid with impossible magic.
Pax and the rebellion pulled off the impossible by seizing the empire's city and rallying thousands to their cause. Victory parades. Captured nobles in chains. The whole works.
But all that did was prove the rebellion is an actual threat to the empire. Now, the empire's most ruthless commander is massing his forces for a counterattack that could crush everything they've built. He's determined to make an example of every rebel.
Pax and his crew can't let that happen. Guerrilla strikes against supply lines. Hit-and-run tactics with their beast companions. Anything to buy time and weaken the empire's advance while they prepare to take on the full imperial army.
To truly stop the empire and root out the shadowy organization that destroyed his family, Pax will take the fight to them, even to the capital itself. Good thing he's not alone. A wealth of loyal allies and friends are ready to risk everything to help him.
The empire should have killed him when they had the chance.

Triumphant Dawn: A LitRPG Academy Adventure By: M. Zaugg Publisher: Independently Published Published Date: May 8, 2026 ASIN: B0FT2KYWK8 Page Count: 885 pages Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What Did I Just Walk Into? Apparently, I walked into the final book of Shieldwall Academy, where Pax and the rebellion have finally done the impossible, taken a city, chained up some nobles, waved the victory flag, and immediately learned the most annoying lesson of war: winning one battle just makes the empire angrier.
Rude.
Triumphant Dawn picks up with Pax and his crew trying to hold what they fought so hard to take, while the empire gathers itself for a counterattack big enough to squash the rebellion like an inconvenient bug. Except Pax is not exactly squashable. This is the same street kid who went from surviving alleys to becoming the magical problem the empire should have handled when it had the chance. Their mistake. His era.
Here’s What Slapped: This book feels like the payoff the whole series has been building toward. The rebellion is no longer just a desperate dream whispered between people who are tired, hungry, and angry. It is real now. Messy, dangerous, expensive, and deeply inconvenient to everyone in power. My favorite flavor.
Pax’s growth across the series really lands here. He is still clever, loyal, stubborn, and wildly overworked, but now there is weight behind every choice he makes. The battles are bigger, the stakes are nastier, and the strategy is sharper. Guerrilla attacks, supply line strikes, beast companions, capital city danger, and that lovely “we are probably all going to die but let’s make it everyone’s problem first” energy.
The found-family crew also remains one of the strongest parts of the series. Pax never feels like he is standing alone, even when the whole empire is trying to drop a boot on his neck. The allies, companions, and friendships give the action emotional bite, which is important because otherwise it would just be magical war crimes with stats.
What Could’ve Been Better: At 885 pages, this book is not a finale. It is a brick with feelings. You do not read this casually. You commit. You hydrate. You tell your responsibilities they live somewhere else now. That said, for a final book, I would rather have too much than feel cheated.
Perfect for Readers Who Love: LitRPG progression, rebellion stories, found family, magical warfare, beast companions, tactical chaos, empire-toppling, and finales that actually feel earned.

There are a lot of authors out there who deliberately leave you hanging, despite a series supposedly having ended. Many more have characters whose stories are then told as off-shoots to the original series. Seldom do authors completely tie up all the loose ends in a "finale", yet Miss Zaugg has done it.
Readers will have to invest a bit of themselves to read this series. There are ups and downs, dangers, thrills and disappointments; just as there are in non-magical lives. I couldn't imagine myself as any of the characters, but the hero of the series is one for whom it's almost impossible not to cheer. Pax is a "Light Mage", and more than anything else, this is his story.
In contrast to the first five books, the final novel has some time jumps in which events could have used some fleshing out; yet at 800+ pages, the book has a lot packed into it. You'll find yourselves rooting for revenge after the decision is made to go for the capital, but that's the only hint I'll provide. Read the series in order, though, these are NOT stand-alone stories and you'd be lost without the background from earlier novels.
I loved this book. It is the last book in a series and it really delivered.
It's hard to recommend a series that isn't finished yet because if the author fumbles the ending, then for me, this taints the whole series and makes it less enjoyable. This is my big complaint with discovery written books that make big promises with lots of surprises and then the plot collapses under its own weight because the author had no idea how to land the ending.
I'm pleased to say that this series' finale was awesome and had big, satisfying payoffs at the end. And it had a nice long goodbye after the plot was essentially finished, giving me more time to say farewell to the characters. Not enough books do this and I really appreciated it.
Best book evarrr! And what a Grand Fanale it is! Making this the Best Series Evarrr! Or is it the End! Wahaha 😉! As Pax, his team of rebels, and companions, thrust themselves right into the proverbial heart of darkness, the capital of the empire in order to weaken it. They use all the Skills and their companions abilities to be as stealthily as possible to secure the three main objectives. The first to stop the Elite Circle inquisition, second to locate the building and smuggle out an individual being held there... third, what's with the captured beast horde! You hafta grab the book to find out if Pax and his crew are up to the challenge! To be ready for the final push!
great story, but definitely leave some threads for future work
I love this series and was pretty confused when we got near the end and what I thought was a major thread wasn’t close to resolved. Turns out, that thread is going to be in a future series.
Aside from that, great story and a satisfying conclusion
The finale for Triumphant Dawn is here. And reading it, I thought to myself - there is no way it can be resolved in one book. But in all honesty, we got a satisfying ending and a little hook for a sequel to the series which is all I can ask for!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series! Between the immense creativity of the story plot, the thoroughly gifted writing, and the magnetic draw of the characters, this series is one that I’ll remember for a very long time. Awesome job, Ms Zaugg!!!!
this is a really satisfying ending to one of the main arcs of the series... while seeing up the threat for the next book. this series has a way of glossing over some of the pain of revolution but it makes for a fun litrpg and a tidy story
