Hello, my name's Dorothy Koomson and I'll try to make this bit that's all about me as interesting as possible.
I wrote my first novel called There's A Thin Line Between Love And Hate when I was 13. I used to write a chapter every night then pass it around to my fellow convent school pupils every morning, and they seemed to love it.

I grew up in London and then grew up again in Leeds when I went to university. I eventually returned to London to study for my masters degree and stayed put for the following years. I took up various temping jobs and eventually got my big break writing, editing and subbing for various women's magazines and national papers.

Fiction and storytelling were still a HUGE passion of mine and I continued to write short stories and novels every spare moment that I got. In 2001 I had the idea for The Cupid Effect and my career as a published novelist began. And it's been fantastic. In 2006, third novel, My Best Friend's Girl was published. It was incredibly successful - selling nearly 90,000 copies within its first few weeks on sale. Six weeks later, it was selected for the Richard & Judy Summer Reads Book Club and the book went on to sell over 500,000 copies. Oh, there I go again, this is meant to be about me, not my novels.

Okay, back to me. I recently spent two years living in Sydney Australia, and now I'm back in England. But I can't say for how long I'll be in the UK for because I've been well and truly bitten by the travel bug

MS. KOOMSON HAS DELIVERED AGAIN

April Manga is out for revenge. When she was twelve she witnessed her abusive and controlling dad kill her mother. Her dad being well connected managed to escape prison and has a new name and all background erases. So, April is going to everyone who was connected to her dad being the free man he is and is killing them. It is up to profiler and therapist Kez Lanyon to try and find April before April kills again.

This author knows how to write a psychological thriller about despicable men. I felt so angry and heavy-hearted reading April’s POV of the controlling and torturous upbringing she had with her pathetic excuse of a dad.

The book is told in two POV’s of Kez and April and I enjoyed following both, but more so Aprils. I really felt the tension and urgency when reading her chapters.

It’s a slow burn book that will have you hurrying to flip the pages to see how it will all unfold!

The twists and reveals in this book were soooo good! I genuinely did not see it coming and the author did a fabulous job leading me on a completely different path.

The ending was very suspenseful and had me on the edge.

I cant wait to read more of this authors backlist.

Give Him To Me.
I wondered why Dorothy Koomson titled this book like this my idea of what it could be was so far from the truth. When I found out towards the end of this amazing spellbinding book I was floored.

I’ve always been a fan of this author since I started reading for pleasure ( instead of books I HAD to read for school) many years ago. The characters were well rounded and some love to hate characters that I took on board and tried to understand why they did or said what they said or reacted in some way that was alien thought processes to mine BUT that’s what I love about this authors books she gets you engrossed so much you keep turning pages you need to know more and why..

One of the best suspense thrillers I’ve read for some time. I love how she’s developed over the years and is never backwards in coming forwards with new thoughts and ideas.

Are these characters real? Because to me they sure felt real. A sign of a good author.
She can never write fast enough for me.

Dorothy Koomson, what has happened to your writing? It used to be so original, believable and gripping. The last book was a real let down (Kaz was in this too) and I had to DNF this one at page 71 because it was so implausible. I cant believe a woman could track every one of these people down never mind kill all these men so easily, and the fact her Dad's behaviour was covered up so easily. Meh.

4.75 / 5.0

I stayed up late last night to finish this book and it was worth it! I am blown away but the storytelling, the plot, the characters. Dorothy Koomson has done it again, this series do not disappoint - I do have to give a big disclaimer that this book explores physical abuse, sexual abuse/ violence and details of child abuse/ sexual scenes so I can understand if this book might not be everyone's cup of tea. This book follows on the events of the previous book - whilst this can almost be read as a stand alone - to understand the moral dilemmas, the character or Dr Kez Lanyon you need to start from scratch - this is definitely a series to invest in (albeit the tough subjects she explores in each of her book). The many twists, logical turns in the book - the level of unpredictability is off the chart. I always know when I read Koomson's books I wont be disappointed as each time she has delivered - and she has done it again.

The book centres around Robyn 'Avril' Managa was 12 when she saw first hand the horrors of her controlling, abusive father murder her mother. Her father was but into care, and entered a witness protection programme hidden away from the world - Robyn was forced into care and lived with the trauma her father has subjected to her family ever since. Now in her 20s, Robyn sets out in a mission to organise a family reunion and killing anyone connected to her father's case, leaving a note behind that says 'Give him to me'. Dr Kez Lanyon is tasked to the case, to profile and get to Robyn before she does any damage.

This book takes you on an emotional journey as you gain insight on the horrors and details of Robyn's childhood growing up, this is followed with Dr Kez's own personal battle between her job and her commitment as a wife to her husband and family. This is a gripping book from start to finish - it is worth investing the time in this series because I've not been disappointed by the series before.

This was such a good thriller, right from the very start of this one I was hooked! The two main characters were so thought out and developed and I was so invested in the storyline as a whole!

Firstly we have Kez, who is a profiler working for a government agency. She is given the case of a girl called Robyn! Robyn was just twelve when her father murdered her mother, the whole case was covered up and her father was put into witness protection and now she is determined to make people pay for that cover up and also locate her father! She starts to kill the people directly responsible for the cover up leaving a note on their bodies that reads “Give him to me!” Can Kez get to Robyn in time before the body count rises?

I definitely have to check out more work by this author! This newly released heart pounding thriller is not to be missed!

“ I am so close to falling apart. I am this close to giving in. That I am not as strong as I make out. That my strength can be diminished sometimes.”
- Kezuma Lanyon

——

“This is what we mainly do at Insight – find ways to present information that will nudge and encourage people to behave in certain ways. We study human behaviour and try to influence it sometimes. Usually for the greater good. Usually. It’s become so clear in recent times, to get most people to get on board with doing something, you have to make sure they understand what’s in it for them, first. The greater good is very rarely enough of an incentive for people to do things nowadays. It has to personally impact them, they have to know what’s in it for them, before they care.”
- Kezuma Lanyon

——

“I do understand pain. I do understand constant, unrelenting pain. I do know how it feels to sometimes be terrified that the pain will consume you. I do understand that sometimes you’ll do anything to make it stop. That sometimes you will make every deal going with the devil to make it stop, even for a little while.”
- Kezuma Lanyon

——

“When you can’t be honest in therapy, there is always a little element of control that you have that will make your status in that room on the same level as the therapist’s. For therapy to work, you have to trust the therapist enough to be vulnerable and honest with them.”

A new novel from a writer with an excellent reputation, but it didn't quite come off the page for me.

It was commendable that the theme of domestic abuse was explored from a variety of angles, but some aspects - for example, how streamlined the adoption process was portrayed did not match my understanding. I thought that the book was well-paced, and whilst it started off very well, it fell away latterly. The main character twist seemed quite obvious to me.

Due to my experience with Koomson novels, I came to this book with high expectations that were not fulfilled.

i loved the idea of this book and the plot had so much potential but it was too much of a slow burner for me and the plot twists didn’t hit because they were spelled out by the author rather than them being revealed and giving me an “ohhhh!” moment (unless i missed it lol) x

As ever with this author, she needs to cut out extraneous details e.g. P271 ‘his voice tight, as though stretched to its limits, as though he’s trying to speak without breathing’. Another example P333 ‘so I have to put on gloves, blue plastic overshoes, a face mask and push my hair under a hat before I’m allowed to enter…’ and then when Kez left the house, the author named the items all again as she took them off!
Like a lot of other reviewers, I didn’t take to Kez’s parts - too much analysis e,g. one thought would be mused upon over a long paragraph- and she always seemed to know exactly what someone else is thinking or intimating. April / Robyn’s part was good, and had all the twists too.
This was better than the first book in the series but I’ll probably not read another book by Dorothy.

This is book 2 following Every Smile You Fake. Dr Kez Lanyon is back but this time she is working on a completely different case.

Robyn 'Avril' Managa was twelve when she witnessed her abusive yet well connected father murder her mother. She was placed into care while he was given a new identity in Witness Protection. Now she’s an adult, she wants to see him again. She starts killing people who may have information as to her fathers new identity and leaves the note “GIVE HIM TO ME” on their bodies.

I was so excited to read this after being obsessed with book 1. This can be read as a standalone but I personally think book 1 should be read first just so you can really get to know the characters.

I absolutely adored the beginning and the ending of the book. I loved the premise of the book and the ending was deliciously twisty!

I felt the middle of the story let the book down. It dragged a little and the main character Kez was doing my head in! I think she’s such a brilliant character but at the halfway point of the book, I felt like she was being so unnecessarily dramatic and it felt out of character for her.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book but I still thought it was an alright read overall and I still liked it!

Audio book as Dorothy is excellent not only with her writing but choosing the right narrator.

I felt the emotion, the rawness, the fear and was rooting for certain characters throughout.

it's a hard story, covers the impact of domestic abuse from the child's perspective, which is just a sad reality even today. How services dismiss women in general, women of colour, and the response of call us back when something really happens, by then it's usually too late!
Kez is just fire. She is a powerhouse and made me chuckle she has this hard-core job that rocks her to the core, but like the rest of us switches to mom mode in an instant. Robin, my heart broke for her. In the cafe when he came in, I wept for them, I was angry he didn't get what he deserved.

so many twists I wasn't expecting, soooo clever and very good. I have recommended this book at work as I hits hard and you can learn a lot. Sometimes all it takes is are you ok? Listen and be kind, that can make all the difference!

Something about this book just didn’t click for me. About 2/3rds of it felt like a drawn out account of Robyn’s childhood, and only toward the very end does the story finally pick up. The plot twist was okay not terrible, but not great either.

A lot of the story felt unrealistic. How can a girl who’s only been doing push ups suddenly take down multiple trained men? And why is the CIA so afraid of someone with zero experience or knowledge as an agent or in special forces or anything of that sorts? I get that she’s driven by revenge, but it’s hard to believe she could outplay everyone so easily.

The ending with her father also left me disappointed. I was really hoping for a moment where she could finally tell him everything. I’d been waiting for that the entire book, but it never came, which left me feeling empty.

Overall, it wasn’t my best read and I dnf’d. That said, the story does have strong plot potential it just needed to be told differently to really land.

And she does it again! Brilliant!

I am a big fan of the work of Dorothy Koomson - there is only a small number of books of hers that I haven't read yet...but I will.
Dorothy is the Queen of thriller writing now and I have read most of her books from the very first and so I know how far she has come with her writing..how it has always been good but it just keeps on getting better every time.

There are so many things that I love about Dorothy's characters and stories but one thing I love the most is that the main character is always so very honest in her relationships - there is tremendous respect and love and so much honesty and that always makes a refreshing change from a lot of other stories I have either read or watched.
All of the horrible stuff that happens in this book, and at the heart of it is domestic abuse, is truly upsetting to read because Dorothy puts so much love and research into the story..and also because I know that this stuff happens in real life all of the time, sadly.
I cannot tell you much more about the book without giving away spoilers so I will just say that if you haven't read any of this gorgeous author's books before, you will not be disappointed if you give this one a try..but, I do recommend starting at the very beginning because the first few were more women's fiction covering serious issues rather than thrillers..Dorothy moved into that world later on.
I enjoyed getting to know the people in this book and I loved the twists as they came.
Thanks Dorothy, once again, for an awesome unputdownable story. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!
One more thing. Do me, and yourself of course, the biggest favour..if you or someone you know is suffering from any kind of abuse in your life - get help and don't stop until you do get it! If you are being abused it is not your fault, you don't deserve it and they will never change so stop waiting for them to. Look after yourselves because you deserve the best in life always.
How a person reacts to you, is their problem and never yours. Take care of you xxx

Give Him To Me by Dorothy Koomson

Thanks to Headline and Ed.PR for my copy of the book. And of course Dorothy - the one who's book I saw myself in for the very first time 💙

If there is one author you will pick up without hesitation or even reading a synopsis, who is it? For me it's the Queen of the Big Reveal herself, Dorothy Koomson. She never ever fails. Ever. And she's done it again of course.

Give Him To Me is the sequel to her chart topper Every Smile You Fake and her star protagonist Kez Lanyon. If you haven't read Every Smile You Fake, whilst I highly recommend it as it is excellent and gives background detail to Kez and her life it's not essential to pick up Give Him To Me.

We pick up with Kez in the new roll she has taken on at Insight. And of course it starts off seemingly innocent. But in true DK fashion all hell is breaking loose in a few short pages 🤣 I love it!

There are so many wrong turns and heartbreaking realities in this book that I found myself on quite the rollercoaster. But in true DK fashion it is tantalisingly pulled together for a crescendo of a finish!

I cannot recommend Give Him To Me enough for readers who love a thriller.

Content warning for those who need them: Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse/Violence, Verbal Abuse & Coercive and controlling behaviour.

oh, dorothy, my love, reunited with a new book at long last.

the return of kez! i was so excited to get my grubby paws on this, i was practically hyperventilating. there is nothing i love more than being in a dorothy bubble - quite frankly, i would read her shopping lists.

i was utterly addicted to this novel; even better than the prequel! i couldn't get enough of it and each page made me desperate for more. such an amazing suspense thriller and dorothy never disappoints; her writing is always flawless and her twists are always believable. i am actually sad i have finished it and will never get to read it for the first time again. as a long-time and life-long dorothy lover, i was a little apprehensive to hear dorothy will be creating a series as i love the fact she writes standalones, but when i heard they would be follow-ons from every smile you fake and would include kez, i was beside myself as kez is such a strong, real character with so much more to give.

counting down the minutes until dorothy's next addition! in the meantime i will be re-reading - again! - all of dorothy's novels as i just cannot get enough of her.

Dorothy Koomson has done it again with another gripping, emotional read that kept me hooked from the very first page. Kez is such a compelling character, and her case had me completely intrigued as the story unfolded.

I also found myself really drawn to Robyn. Her difficult upbringing made me feel so sorry for her, and it set such a powerful and heartbreaking tone for the novel. Koomson writes her with so much depth that you can’t help but feel invested in her struggles.

As much as I thought I had the ending figured out, I was completely wrong and I loved that. The twists and turns were unexpected and kept me on edge right up until the final pages.

Had to DNF at page 115. Was tempted to give up before as the character of Kez was borderline unbearable but I liked Robyn’s chapters. However the breaking point for me was in Kez’s story line constantly referring to a character as ‘Big Bad Aiden’ constantly because she didn’t like how he stood. Then followed a conversation where Aiden questioned this and I think the author was trying to make her sound witty but just sounded even more childish. Not at all convincing for her job role.

Didn’t realise this was book 2 until looking at the reviews but given Kez is in the first one I certainly won’t be trying book one. First and last from this author I’m afraid.
