Touching Fire: From the Flames of Addiction to the Beauty of Redemption

Rate this book
A powerful true story of addiction, survival, and the relentless pursuit of transformation.

“No one was my friend. No one was safe. Nothing was off limits.”

Twelve arrests in just four years. A trail of wreckage left behind. Another high to silence the pain. Kelsey’s life spiraled through addiction, chaos, and desperation—until a street evangelist extended a hand of support and refused to walk away.

That single act of mercy set her on a path toward rehab, hard choices, and the fight of her life.

With gripping honesty and compassion, Kelsey shares both the pain and the beauty of a transformed life. She pulls back the curtain on living in one of America’s most infamous neighborhoods—Los Angeles’ Skid Row—and exposes the dark corners of an addictive lifestyle through her hard-fought journey toward hope.

From shelters where death is routine to moments of divine intervention, her story is a powerful testimony of redemption and the strength it takes to rise from the ashes.

Whether you’re battling your own darkness or walking alongside someone who is, this book offers a raw, real glimpse of what’s possible when the burning stops and the healing begins.

A book that truly hit home!

Even though I am 5 years into my own recovery this book took me back! I can relate to so much that the author went through on her journey to redemption. It is also my confirmation from the Lord that prison ministry is His calling for me!

Loved this

I loved this book, basically stayed up all night one night reading it! I work with people in recovery doing Equine therapy with my horses. I have seen amazing things when people feel the connection with an animal that does not see a relationship as transactional but only asks that you come to them as your authentic self. I try to read as many stories like yours Kelsey to help me really understand more of how this group of people feel, what they need most from me in the short time I work with them. I have a new understanding of what they need most and how I can help the most while I'm with them. On a side note, your walk with God has inspired me to continue to build my relationship with him and find my own closer walk with him. Thank you so much for this book. I will recommend it to everyone!

I purchased this book in solidarity for my church sister. I held off on reading it - not quite ready for the realness. When she came and did the book reading here in CA., that inspired me to pick the book up and just dive in. I barely came up for air. Even though I know where she landed presently, I was enthralled to learn all that she had to overcome. I am so proud of her for her boldness in sharing her real story and all that she learned through it. She is an inspiration to lean into God's grace and unconditional love available to us when we are ready to lean in and accept it for ourselves. The questions throughout the book are a great touch to include the reader in the journey. Great job, Kelsey! <3
