Jess Stellar is a general dentist living his best life when his hygienist of thirteen years tells him that she's quitting. When Jess uses an online service to find a temporary hygienist to work in his office, little does he know who he has hired.
As a dental assistant, I wasn’t sure what to expect going into The Hygienist, but I was hooked from the very beginning. This is such a fun (and creepy!) read—especially for those of us in the dental field. The writing is sharp, engaging, and full of dark charm. I loved how fast-paced the story was; I flew through it in one sitting, I could not put it down.
The characters felt real and relatable, and the setting was so authentic. You can tell the author knows the ins and outs of dental life, which made the horror elements hit even harder. It’s the perfect mix of suspense, humor, and eeriness.
If you’re in dentistry—or just want a unique, quick read with a great voice and a chilling twist—The Hygienist is a must!
A cleverly unsettling horror novel that turns a routine dental visit into something deeply disturbing. The Hygienist thrives on its simple but effective premise, building dread through atmosphere and restraint. By grounding the horror in an everyday setting, D. S. Siceloff proves that the most frightening stories don’t rely on excess, just the wrong person in the wrong place. A sharp, memorable read for fans of subtle, psychological horror.
The writer had a lot of fun with this, and I had fun reading it. Fleshed out, this would be a big hit—I’m thinking fans of Carl Hiaasen or other sharply funny mystery/horror books.
