Promised & Pursued, book one in The Reclaimed Ballads series by L.C. Petra Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 4 stars
With this being author L.C. Petra’s debut novel, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew is that the synopsis had me at Viking fantasy! Whaaaaat?! Vikings, Shield Maidens, clan politics, cultural lore, Gods, monsters and Vanheim?!! Absofknlutely!
The build up of the atmosphere was on point. The winter setting with the week long Yule celebration and ritualistic traditions along with long, dark nights and the frozen Tundra lent themselves well to this story. I loved the Norse Mythology and clan belief in magic, superstition and The Gods.
The pacing had the story starting slow but it was appropriate. The tempo and tension built momentum throughout the story so when the climax came it hit just right. The characters are well developed. Rasha is a fierce huntress that has been providing for her clan since she was orphaned at a young age. She is coming into womanhood at a time of unrest in the clan. The Jarl is in cahoots with the King and is trying to force the clan away from their traditional way of life and turning from the worship of the Goddesses. He wants to oppress the women, forcing them into subservient roles with the men holding all the power. Her brother Jorvik’s priorities are clan politics and acquiring a seat on the council and he promises Rasha to the Jarl, Harald. If Jorvik and Harald have their way, Rasha will be betrothed at the end of the Yule festival.
Rasha believes the bow of Skadi, from the mythical tale she’s heard since childhood, will help her come into magical power and lead her clan to safety and their Viking way of life. She’s determined to find it before the end of Yule and refuse marriage to Harald.
Enter Shaw. A mysterious blacksmith that keeps to himself, lives in an unknown place in the forest and rarely comes to the village. The Jarl has specifically asked him to attend this year so he can smith wedding rings for the marriage he is convinced will be happening. Unbeknownst to Rasha, Shaw also needs to find Skadi’s bow.
Let the adventure begin!
It was so easy to become immersed in this story. Was the writing perfect? No. Were there some plot holes? Yes. Did I still enjoy the read? Absolutely, yes!
As I said earlier, the story starts out slow. I really wish that we would have had more backstory on Rasha’s parents and her early years living among the clan as an orphan. We are given info later in the novel but I wanted more. I loved the Viking/Norse theme, the magic, the shapeshifting and the familiars. The Viking mythology, traditions and rituals really help tie everything together and the slow burn romance!!! The tension between Rasha and Shaw is palpable and the admiration and respect they have for each other leaps from the pages. Shaw worships Rasha and will do anything to help her come into her own power.
The ending has me anxiously waiting for book two. I need to know what happens with the Royals, the women of the clan and the reindeer!!! (Iykyk)
Thank you to NerdFam and L.C. Petra for the digital advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Promised & Pursued is a viking romantasy and different from my normal reads, but it was good. The relationship in this book is very slow burn if that is something you like, the spice is minimal but definitely there. I do think the book was interesting enough.
Both the MC’s were good, no issues with either Shaw or Rasha. I don’t know honestly, there was nothing necessarily wrong but there wasn’t anything that really grabbed my attention either. Three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Promised & Pursued was the perfect debut novel full of Vikings, romance, and the most adorable lynx you will ever meet! I couldn’t put it down!!
Let me tell you: so much plot was packed into this book, I freaking LOVED it. Because the pacing was the perfect pacing for how I read- it didn’t drag on or have any lulls. Honestly, it was about as perfect for pacing as I can get with a book!!
I really enjoyed it because - full transparency - I don’t know much about Norse mythology (beyond what Marvel movies have taught me😅) so all of the references were like introducing brand new characters (that I had no preconceived notions about) which was very refreshing.
But come on- I mean, Rasha and Shaw? LITERAL goals. And that plot twist at the ending? I always say “oh I didn’t see that coming!” but this one I REALLY didn’t see that twist coming! Like, if you had bet me halfway through on what was going to happen and who was going to do it, I would have lost my entire life savings because I couldn’t have predicted this.
And Jorvik? Please go impale yourself on a sword, thank you😊
Oooooo i loved this one. It had me hooked and captivated just like our fmc Rasha is with our Mmc Shaw.
It had me thinking and a kind of knew it/wtf moment too lol
I loved Rasha, she's fearless but als9 a tad niave and stubborn but in a good way. Shaw is possesivebur also lets her make her mind up and lets her make her own decisions.
Then you have side characters who well, I'm not saying anything other than you'll be shouting at your book or kindle lol
Loved every minute of it. Thank you again thenerdfam, you beauties you

ARC REVIEW ✨️ If you like Norse mythology, you'll love this book! It had a bit of a slow start with the world building, but then it was a page turner. I could not put it down. Rasha is a fierce FMC, strong huntress of her clan chosen to be the maiden of the Yule twelve nights of feasting. She sends a prayer to the goddess to get her out of her betrothal to the Jarl! I loved everything about this world the author created ! The hunt, rituals, mazes, sacrifices, clan politics, and found family. Jorvik, the worst brother in the world he made me so mad! The best slow burn and forbidden romance between Rasha and Shaw! My favorite of this book was the reindeer because I just love reindeer lol! It's definitely a fantastic read!
Thank you, #Nerdfam, for this ARC. I really enjoyed reading in exchange for my opinion.
Congratulations to author LC Petra on her debut novel! Thank you and The Nerd Fam for allowing me to read an advance copy of Promised and Pursued.
I was drawn to the story of a fierce Viking woman and Promised and Pursued definitely delivered. While I am not an expert, I felt this fantasy had solid roots in Norse mythology. It carries a vibe of feminine strength and fire that definitely reminded me of the women and goddesses I’ve read about.
The depictions of ritual were interesting and I loved one particular scene of fire and ice (iykyk) that really stirred my soul. Such a fantastic scene, it really made the book for me!
I also loved the role of animals in the story, also in line with the Norse pantheon and mythology.
The slow burn romance was integral to the story and I loved that. I usually skip the spice, and there was a fair amount in the second half of the book but it didn’t mess with my comprehension or timeline for the story at all. There’s also some assault (the worst of it is off-page) and while obviously we all hate that, it was a great foundation for seeing Rasha’s cunning and fortitude as she bided her time and played to her strengths. It also drew clear distinctions among the men and set Shaw in a category all his own.
The plot is fantastic, with great pacing and characters that drew me in. The world building also lit up my imagination. I wish it was more emotive, and that the language was a little more fluid. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the book once I settled into the writing style.
This is an excellent debut, and I hope to read more from the author.
Promised & Pursued feels like being dropped into a frostbitten Viking winter where the culture is brutal, the stakes are high, and the heat between the main characters is the only thing keeping you warm. We follow Rasha, the fiercest huntress in her clan, chosen to serve as the Maiden of Yule and placed at the center of twelve nights of feasting, politics, and razor-sharp tension between clans.
The Yule setup is such a fantastic way to launch the story. There’s a clear split between the women of Rasha’s clan, who fiercely follow the way of the gods, and her brother, who becomes an ambitious shit-head willing to sell out his sister to the Jarl of Aske for his own gain. Fate has other plans when Rasha crosses paths with Shaw, our brooding blacksmith MMC who doesn’t believe in female suppression. Their chemistry is immediately electrifying and every interaction crackles a little hotter until it finally spills over into spice.
The book doesn’t shy away from hard topics. There’s a scene where Rasha witnesses the aftermath of an SA, and the author uses just enough imagery to make it clear without being gratuitous. It’s haunting and effective. The suppression of women is a major theme throughout, so definitely keep that in mind if that’s a trigger for you.
As someone who loves some good feminine rage, watching Rasha go from a woman who stays in line to a full-blown rebellious BAMF is so rewarding. Her growth, her choices, and the way she pushes back against a world built to cage her were some of my favorite parts.
Pick up this book if you like Viking romantasies with bite and spice, an MMC who worships the FMC and treats her as an equal, and adorable animal companions along the way.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam and L.C. Petra for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
Promised and Pursued is a powerful winter romantasy rooted in Viking mythology, feminine rage, and a forbidden connection that absolutely smolders on the page.
Rasha is the fierce huntress and future leader of her clan, determined to carve out a better future for the women who’ve been silenced for far too long. Chosen as the Maiden of Yule, she finds herself at the center of political tension—and trapped in an oppressive betrothal to Harald, a man who sees her strength as something to crush.
But everything changes when an injured lynx leads her to Shaw, the quiet blacksmith living deep within the Sacred Forest. Shaw is steady where Harald is cruel, and his presence sparks a connection Rasha neither expects nor trusts… yet can’t seem to resist. When she discovers that both of them are searching for Skadi’s ancient bow, their journeys collide in a way that is equal parts dangerous and magnetic.
The stakes are high: Rasha’s controlling brother is willing to risk everything—including her freedom—to secure power, and the future of the clan’s women hangs in the balance. As Rasha and Shaw are drawn closer together, their desire threatens to ignite a fire that could either save her people… or destroy them both.
This story blends myth, rebellion, and romance beautifully. The Yule backdrop adds a rich, atmospheric layer, and the theme of a woman fighting for autonomy hits with emotional force. The forbidden tension between Rasha and Shaw is wonderfully done, and the plot moves with a steady mix of action, heart, and magic.
If you want a romantasy with a strong heroine, Viking lore, slow-burn chemistry, and a fierce undercurrent of feminine strength, this is an excellent winter read.
L.C. Petra's debut captured my attention with its promise of Viking fantasy. Yule rituals along with the frozen tundra and long winter nights create a richly immersive backdrop grounded in Norse mythology and ancestral tradition. Though the narrative begins at a measured pace, it gradually builds momentum. At its center is Rasha, a capable huntress navigating a clan in turmoil as the Jarl and her politically driven brother attempt to abandon their goddess centered customs and for her into an unwanted marriage. Convinced that Skadi's legendary bow holds the power to protect her people, Rasha sets out to find it and is unexpectedly joined by Shaw, a reclusive blackmith with his own secret stake in the quest.
While the novel isn't without minor flaws and a few thinly sketched areas, it remains an engaging and evocative read. The blend of Norse magic, ritual, shapeshifting, and folklore gives the world real texture, and the slow burn romance is handled with a subtle, compelling tension. Rasha and Shaw's mutual respect and quiet admiration feel genuine, adding emotional weight to their journey. The ending closes on a note that promises even higher stakes ahead.
If you love Viking and Norse mythology then this is a perfect read for you.
This book was so good. It had some of my fave aspects in a book, viking lore, a brooding protective but supportive MMC, a strong FMC who bucks any male who tries to hold her back, and gods and magic... I loved all of it. This book was giving Fate Inked and Silversmith vibes, and I'm not mad at all (because again... two of my faves). This book is a slowburn, but spicy, the plot was intriguing and there was mystery around who and what, driving the story forward at a pace that made me not want to put the book down... and I didn't. (I read this in two days). All I can say, is I need more of Rasha and Shaw! Hope Book 2 comes soon.😉
I want to thank @TheNerdFam and @booksby_lcpetra for giving me the opportunity to review this book... it was such a fun read!
This was a unique Viking romantasy with an interesting magic/gods/goddesses world, a slow burn love story, and themes of trust, self-doubt, and strong feminine characters. Unfortunately the execution needs a bit of polishing. The world here is super interesting, and I love Viking/Norse inspired stories because they are fierce, dark worlds that lend themselves to magic and superstition. However I found myself confused quite a bit in this story, unsure what exactly was going on. Some dialogue between characters was contradictory, confusing me as to their motives or what they were feeling. I found myself returning to passages and rereading to try and discern if I missed something because plot points didn’t always make sense. It took me out of the story a bit.
Both MCs were likable, and the chemistry between Shaw and Rasha was palpable. The spice was good, and the burn was sloooowwww, so if you like that “when will they come on already” tension you’ll love this.
The Viking world was dark and delivered on the harshness. It felt immersive and cold, and your anger at the oppression of women is visceral.
In general, a decent Viking romantasy with unique fantasy elements, slow burn romance, mystery surrounding plot and characters, and an ending leaving you wanting more.
CW: sexual assault, rape (off page, not FMC), anti-women society
I absolutely hate that I can't bring myself to give this 4 stars. I made sure when I started this book that I kept in mind that this was a debut novel for this author, and it helped me get through it as much as I could. I promised an honest review, and so - I will give one.
Before I say why I DNF'd this book at 47%, I do want to say that if it weren't for a couple things, I would have definitely enjoyed it more. I love the Viking and norse mythology aspects of the story, the overarching plot is interesting, and the characters are easy to love and to hate. This has A LOT of potential to be an amazing story, it really does. I love that the author infused her story with this one, and I hope she forgives me for the negative comments I'm about to say. I know authors pour the hearts, souls, sweat, and tears into their stories. I hate it more because I feel like this author is a very sweet person, so again - I'm sorry <3
So, why did I DNF? One of the main reasons was that the flow of the story and the plot in general feels like it’s skipping around a little bit, the pacing is hot and then cold. Parts that should have more detail lack them, and parts that do have detail are over too quickly.
Some scenes could have been written out longer and would have absolutely added to the story. Like in the beginning when Shaw was laying out in the medicine room and Rasha was trying to find the ingredients. Building that interaction between the characters is what builds the romance up for the reader. Instead it felt like they were fawning over each other after three VERY brief interactions. Which that does happen in some stories, but not with a character that has been built up to be a strong-willed, independent, "down with the patriarchy" huntress type of person that is Rasha, who is still a virgin and is determined to remain so as she says she would rather die that let a man take her womanhood. She is determined to never marry, to find Skadi's Bow, and lead her people to the wilds, to safety. The relationship developing between Shaw and Rasha felt short, forced, and made no sense based on their character traits.
The descriptions could have been better and more detailed so they wouldn't have to be repeated so often. There was at least one mention of Rasha's curves, breasts, and/or virginity in EVERY chapter. It felt terribly unnecessary most of the time. Especially the virginity bit, it started to feel like the central focus because it was brought up A LOT. I understand that it was an important little detail, but it didn't need to be a topic as often as it was.
Finally, the dialogue could have used some work/edits. Sometimes it was hard to follow the conversation between characters as well as moods. There was a moment where Rasha was talking about the map with Harald then got angry really fast but I didn't really grasp why she was so mad about it right away, I had to go back and re-read the conversation. Or at the hunt, where I left off and decided to DNF - there were what felt like a whole bunch of things going on in one little scene and a bunch of conversations happening on and off the page. It shifted from two men, to her killing one, to Shaw coming out of nowhere and instead of planning or getting her away, they had a hot and heavy make out session with a dead body laying there, then Harald comes in and it's just chaos.
I know that was a lot, I didn't intend to write paragraphs, but wanted to give feedback and explain why this was a DNF for me (which are rare occurrences). In the end, I feel like if there was another round or so of BETA readers, and some more development - this book would have been an amazing debut! It still is because the author put her book out there in the world, which is more than most, but I couldn't do it.
When I read the synopsis of Promised & Pursued, I was intrigued as I don't typically read Viking fantasy stories. The premise sounds interesting: a young woman named Rasha acts as the role of Maiden of the Yule, where the clans gather in camaraderie. During this time, she finds out that her brother Jorvik has promised Rasha's hand in marriage to Harold, the Jarl of Aske in order to promote his own position. Rasha has a secret objective, which is to discover Skadi's ancient bow. Doing this will allow her to find the reindeer herd.
For the first 20% of the story, I found myself pretty bored. The dialogue felt choppy, and I couldn't decide if this was to portray the Nordic language or if this was L.C. Petra's style of writing. It was difficult to connect to any of the characters as a lot of their interactions were never thoroughly fleshed out. Opportunities for drawing out some moments to provide for relationship development between Shaw, the MMC, and Rasha were missed, and even though their physical relationship could be considered "slow burn", their feelings towards each other felt more like insta-attachment without the reader being able to read the buildup. Some character actions, emotions, and dialogue seemed contradictory to the type of character that I felt L.C. Petra was trying to portray. Rasha comes off as a strong, independent, never let a man make a decision for her, nor take her womanhood; yet, she internally monologues about her desire for Shaw. Her emotions also escalate quickly if not irrationally. Rasha will be prepping food and calmly thinking about how aroused she is to swiftly shrieking and becoming hysterical about her fate. Harold comes off as a strong, brute of a leader; yet, he panics easily and portrays cowardice. The clan members have a mob mentality in that they go with the flow: whomever is popular, whomever can protect them is who they follow, despite a supposed loyalty to the FMC.
I also felt that several references to anything involving the sexual content in the story was awkwardly and forcefully placed into the moment. For example, Shaw and Rasha have a moment when she needs to be hiding or running, and there is a dead body on the floor. Another time, Rasha is literally freezing to death, and she thinks about how immensely aroused she would be with their bodies' proximity to each other (so instead she's "left fantasizing").
In general, I think there needs to be more world building and background on the characters and their motivations. Who is this "King" that keeps getting mentioned? How did he come to power, and why is his alliance to Harold so feared? While we get a small revelation about Jorvik, why is he so utterly despicable? How was the lead up to Rasha and Jorvik's relationship becoming the way it is now? Why is Skadi's bow necessary to find the reindeer? What are the actual Viking laws? What is permitted socially, and what is not? What exactly is the bond between Rasha and Shaw. To some extent, there feels like there is a lack of logic to the story and certain portrayed events. Per Viking custom, the woman has to accept the marriage, so why would Rasha accept a marriage when the men are outwardly telling her that she "will entertain the whole clan once [she is] the Jarl's wife." "Entertain" being a euphemism.
Overall, I felt like there was a lot of potential in the premise of this story, but another round at the drawing board would be beneficial to fine tune the details.
Tropes: Viking Fantasy Bonds Magic Nordic Mythology Animal Familiar
A gripping, emotional, slow-burn romance that had me hooked from the very first chapter. Electric chemistry, high stakes, and characters you can’t help but root for. There’s something special about a story that can balance tenderness with tension so utterly deep and so utterly flawlessly. Promised & Pursued is such a refresh and unique read & I can already tell I’m gonna be thinking about it for days to come! As a viking romantasy, it’s so much different from my usual reads but I loved every second of it & all the lore that came with it. It was a journey and experience in itself and I just can’t stop thinking about it. After this read, I’ll definitely be reading more viking romantasy in the future.
Promised & Pursued follows Rasha, the Maiden of Yule, who is promised to Jarl Harald by her brother, Jorvik. Desperate to secure himself a place on the Jarl’s council, Jorvik strikes a deal with Harald—and together, with the King’s backing, they work to push the clan from their ancient traditions and sever their devotion to the Goddesses. Rasha is our fierce, headstrong and baddie FMC— She’s a true huntress, determined to prove exactly what a woman is capable of — a girl’s girl through and through!. Then there’s Shaw, the enigmatic blacksmith MMC carrying more secrets than he lets on, bound to Rasha by an undeniable connection. Together, they’re thrust into an impossible quest to find a long-lost bow said to have belonged to a goddess and are anything but powerful together. L.C. Petra blends aching vulnerability with irresistible tension, creating a story that feels equal parts intimate, raw, and deeply addictive. The chemistry between the leads. Shaw and Rasha, is constant and electric — the kind that simmers beneath every glance and every line of dialogue, begging to unravel.
What really stood out in Promised & Pursued for me was how Petra balances both romance with the most heart-stopping high stakes & one epic journey. The characters are beautifully flawed, so deeply human, carrying their own scars, secrets, and have their own stubborn hopes. Watching them collide, pull apart, and slowly find their way back to each other is both frustrating in the best way and emotionally rewarding. The world-building adds texture without ever overshadowing the emotional core, making every moment feel immersive
What to expect in Promised & Pursued: ꨄ︎ viking romantasy ꨄ︎ twist on fated mates ꨄ︎ stabby fmc ꨄ︎ myths & rituals / norse mythology ꨄ︎ animal companions ꨄ︎ feminine rage ꨄ︎ forbidden romance
A big thank you to L.C. Petra for letting me arc read this amazing new novel of yours!!! Promised & Pursued releases Dec. 11th, 2025
Promised & Pursued is a richly atmospheric winter or Christmas time romantasy that sinks its roots deep into Norse mythology and clan tradition, delivering a story that feels both ancient and new.
Rasha, a fiercely capable huntress chosen as the Yule Maiden, stands at the heart of it all. Torn between duty, tradition, and a future she refuses to let be dictated by manipulative men, she emerges as a heroine whose strength is not just physical but deeply emotional. Her determination to protect the women of her clan, and herself, from an increasingly oppressive system adds a powerful undercurrent to the narrative.
Her unexpected partnership with Shaw, the enigmatic blacksmith living in the Sacred Forest, is where the book truly shines. Their slow-burn connection is threaded with tension, respect, and an unspoken tenderness that builds beautifully as their shared quest for Skadi’s legendary bow unfolds. Shaw’s steady presence contrasts perfectly with the controlling forces closing in on Rasha, making their bond feel both dangerous and inevitable.
The world-building is vivid and immersive: sacred hunts, labyrinthine rituals, shapeshifters, clan politics, and the persistent chill of winter all intertwine to create a setting that feels mythic yet lived-in. And who doesn't love an animal sidekick? From the injured lynx to the reindeer, add unexpected charm and heart to a great story.
While the opening moves at a measured pace, it lays the groundwork for a story that grows increasingly gripping, culminating in an ending that hints at even greater stakes ahead.
If you love Viking inspired fantasy, slow burn forbidden romance, fierce heroines, and wintery myth soaked worlds, Promised & Pursued is a strong story that promises an epic journey to come.
Thank you to The Nerd Farm for the ARC copy to review.
A huge thank you to the author and Nerd Fam for providing this ARC!
Promised and Pursued by L.C. Petra is an atmospheric debut that immediately drew me in with its heavy Viking, Yule, and Norse mythology vibes. As someone quite knowledgeable in Viking customs and lore, I found the world-building to be a great foundation for the series, though I would have loved to see it dive even deeper into the details, and I think if you aren't familiar with these things, you may be a bit lost.
The story follows Rasha, the fiercest huntress in her clan, who is chosen as the Maiden of Yule. Facing an oppressive betrothal and a brother who will stop at nothing for power, Rasha sets out on a quest for Skadi’s ancient bow. Along the way, she encounters an injured lynx, which causes her to cross paths with Shaw, a mysterious blacksmith. This sparks a relationship that feels like it’s being forged by the gods themselves.
I really enjoyed the strong female characters in this book—seeing Rasha take charge of her destiny was a highlight. I’m also a total sucker for an animal sidekick, and I think this might be the first time I’ve read a book featuring a lynx! However, I did have one major gripe: I really did NOT enjoy the heavy stress put on Rasha being "pure" or a virgin. It felt like it was treated as this essential, amazing trait, and it’s a trope I’m just not fond of—it got old quite quickly for me.
While the pacing was steady, there were also a few spots where the transitions felt a bit choppy. At times, the characters felt slightly one-dimensional, but watching Shaw’s growth throughout the narrative was very satisfying. Despite these issues, the story left me genuinely interested in what happens next, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story expands in Book 2!
I will always pick up a Viking fantasy romance, and this one absolutely delivered. Promised & Pursued has everything I adore about the genre: mythology woven into winter rituals, rich world-building, and that perfect blend of danger, tenderness, and magic.
Rasha and Shaw? Everything. I loved their dynamic, their chemistry, their tension, and the way their connection unfolds. The beginning was a touch slow for me, but once the story hit its stride, I reached the point where I physically could not put it down.
My favorite parts? ✨ The mythology and atmospheric world ✨ The ANIMALS (I was obsessed every time one appeared) ✨ The found family vibes that made my heart ache ✨ The romance that builds with such intention
As someone born on the winter solstice, this book struck a special chord. It feels like a story made for long, cold nights. A cozy, wintry, romantic escape that checked so many of my favorite things.
For a debut, this was such a fun and engaging read. I genuinely enjoyed the journey, and I’m excited to see where book two goes—especially hoping we get a few more answers and a little more character growth, because the foundation here is so strong.
If you want a winter romantasy that blends Viking lore, fierce heroines, soft moments, and heart-pounding stakes, this one is a lovely choice.
Thank you, #Nerdfam, for this ARC! I truly enjoyed reading it in exchange for my honest opinion.
ARC Review | Promised & Pursued by L.C. Petra Promised & Pursued is a Viking-inspired romance filled with adventure, magic, tension, and a heroine who refuses to be anyone’s quiet little promised bride. Rasha is fierce, stubborn, and so easy to root for. Her quest for Skadi’s magical bow gives the story a mythic edge without ever feeling confusing or heavy. She’s a huntress with real grit, not just a heroine who claims strength, but one who proves it in the way she thinks, fights, and refuses to let an arranged betrothal dictate her life. I loved how she balances raw determination with vulnerability. And then there’s the male lead. He’s not just the love interest. He has his own motives, failures, and responsibilities. He’s trying to get back home, and he needs Rasha to do it, even though he can’t tell her the full truth. That tension between them adds so much depth to the story. I also really loved the winter atmosphere. The frozen forests, the long dark nights, and the Yule traditions give the whole book this cold, immersive vibe that makes every scene feel more vivid. The pacing, the dual POV, and the blend of fantasy and emotional tension worked so well together. I genuinely enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait for book two because I need to know how everything unfolds from here.
ARC recieved from The Nerd Fam in return for an honest review.
3.75/5 This is a good spicy novel for romantasy readers, especially if you like strong females and real history tied in.
I liked the way the author puts Viking culture and their gods in the forefront of this book. Yule season was originally a pagan holiday and she reminds us of those roots and traditions.
The parts of the novel that didnt work as well for me was the almost hot and cold aspect of the main character's relationship and the fact that the transition to the Vanheim seemed rushed. The FMC and MMC were destined to be together, and because of that I can see why they wanted eachother so much, I just couldn't quite feel it when they would all of a sudden get in a fight. It makes sense from the perspective of her being independent and he was kind of using her, but then they seemed to move right on a page later. Without getting too spoilery, the ending wrapped up pretty quickly and simply it felt like, and I just felt like it was too easily accepted by everyone.
There was a twist I did not see coming though! Props to the author for that.
Overall, if you are primarily a romantasy reader I think you'll like it. I tend to prefer heavy plot with light spice and if you are okay with a bit more balance I think you may enjoy this.
This book has everything I wanted but did not get when I read «A Fate Inked in Blood» By Danielle Jensen (sorry don´t come for me, I gave it 4 stars and did like it 😂). I was hooked from the first chapter! The writing style is amazing. It was so exiting to follow Rasha, the maiden of Yuletide while she was searching for the ancient bow of Skadi to find a way out of an oppressive bethrothal and leading her people away from the viking Harald who is trying to get the King to take over their village, and make them forget about the gods and their way of living.
I enjoyed that we get a diverse set of characters who develope through the story (both for the better and for worse..). I love our main characters a lot and the slow burn romance between Rasha and Shaw are so good! I really like that we get a little different twist to the fated mates trope then what I usually read in romantasy! While I loved our main characters I equally disliked the «bad guy» in the story, as well as Rashas brother who was so selfish and mean!
If you love a good romantasy (with som spicy spice ofc) with vikings, a slow burn romance and a cute animal companion, read this book right now! It is also the perfect christmas/winter read because the book is set in the Yuletide and our main FMC is the maiden of Yule. The wintery descriptions is so beautiful ❄️
4⭐ 1.5🌶️ 5❤️ I received an ARC copy for free and this is my honest review.
✨Review Highlights✨ - Norse mythology and Vikings - Set during a Yule celebration - Great characters - Interesting plot - Slow start but strong finish
I really enjoyed my time reading this book, I liked the plot and the characters. I haven't read a book that was set during a Yule celebration and I really enjoyed that part of the book.
Though it took some time for me to get into this book, I really liked the plot. I feel like the beginning of this book was quite slow and it took some time for me to really get into it and really want to read and finish it.
I loved the MMC and the FMC I thought that they were strong characters and the chemistry that they had was so good. I loved the tension and the longing that I could feel between these characters. I think that one of my favorite things about this book was the romance itself. I loved the journey that these two went on to finally trusting each other and then loving each other.
In the last probably 40% of this book there is quite a lot happening and I just ate it all up. I loved the action and all the twists and turns that happened, it was very entertaining. I will continue this story I think that there is a lot that could happen and I cant wait to see what does.
I received this book as an ARC. Thank you to the author and The Nerd Fam.
Promised and Pursued by L.C. Petra caught my attention immediately. Vikings, a slow burn, and magic? Yes please! The FMC is a huntress and pretty badass. She’s determined to empower the women in her clan and fights against the patriarchy.
I was excited to jump into the book and felt confused quickly. The overall storyline is interesting with a lot of potential. Unfortunately the dialogue between characters often felt like parts of the conversation were missing. The characters would have overwhelming emotions hit without an explanation why they were angry or upset.
The MMC and FMC have a “slow burn” romance but an instant connection. I feel there were missed opportunities for character development as well as their budding romance. The relationship felt forced with how quickly they formed a soul binding connection.
There were hints here and there about the MMCs backstory but the hints don’t connect for me. I understand he was in love the goddess and ran away when she was killed. But how is the MFC intertwined in this and is she the goddess reincarnated? Basically, I have a lot of unanswered questions.
Again, I think the overall storyline is interesting and has the potential to be a 5 star read if the gaps were filled in.
Oh. My. Gosh. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book had me hooked from page 1!!
This is my first Vikings fantasy romance that I have ever read and it sucked me in from the beginning!
Rasha is our FMC, she is the huntresses of her clan and she is the chosen maiden of Yule for this years celebration. The celebration causes her, her brother Jorvik, her best friends Johanna and Kathrine, and some of her clan to travel to a different clan ruled by harald. Jorvik is trying to convince Rasha to marry harald to help “keep her safe”, but Rasha only wants to live in solitude in the mountains and live out her life as a virgin, until she meets Shaw! ❤️
Shaw is the clans blacksmith who Harald has already told he is making his and Rasha’s wedding rings because he is just that confident she will say yes. Lol to that. During the days of the Yule celebration Shaw and Rasha start to grow closer to each other and then the night of the wild hunt they finally give in to each other in a small way.
If you liked the tv show Vikings, you will absolutely LOVE this book. The ending was a great cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read more of their story!!
5⭐️/5 3.5🌶️/5
Hidden identity Badass virgin FMC Viking vibes

I AM OBSESSED! 🤩 This is my first jump into a Viking romantasy and I can honestly say it will not be my last! This opened my eyes to a whole new romantasy setting which I loved! Plus there were so many more of my favourite tropes…. •Dual POV ✅ •Animal companion ✅ •Slow Burn✅ •Fated romance ✅ •Only one sled (iykyk) ✅ •Gods and mortals ✅
The pacing of this book was torturous in the best possible way! We follow Rasha who’s is this years Maiden of the Yule and set to marry the head of the clan to please the new King who has come to their lands. The passion and loyalty Rasha has for the women she protects but also of her gods/goddesses was such a comfort. She did not waiver in her beliefs and what her journey required from her, and for this she was a dream to follow!
Now out MMC Shaw aka the blacksmith 😏😉 he is on his own mission to get back to his family but understands that crossing paths with Rasha is no mere coincidence. I love his rage and fierce protection of not only Rasha but for all those who see past the corruption spreading through the clans. He is a tortured and brooding soul who will kill if looked at the wrong way and I am HERE for it!
The ending though giving us some closure still left me a little raw with so many unanswered questions! So not overly a cliff hanger but you’ll be left wondering on so many things (it may drive you a little crazy! Haha)
Have I already spoken to @booksby_lcpetra to make sure that we have more Rasha and Shaw content coming … yes, yes I have 😆
I’m unsure if my rambles will entice you to pick up Promised and Pursued, but if you’re on the fence let me just say this…. YOU MUST READ THIS! 😍😍😍
Oh and if you made this far.. firstly thank you! And also today is release day so don’t walk RUN to get yourself a copy!! 🥰

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice:🌶 The book is an interesting concept with vikings and yule theme with gods and magic. The FMC Rasha is a viking maiden who is the strong female in her clan and the yule maiden when her clan goes to join with jarl for yule. She is betrothed to wed the jarl who is an oppressor trying to prevent the women from fighting and praying to their goddesses. She meets the MMC Shaw after she finds his giant lynx injured and saves it. The relationship between the MMC and FMC is very slow burn and the spice in minimal but is there at the end. Rasha ends up on quest to find the ancient bow of the goddess Skadi and the hidden reindeer herd and along the way there is her brother and jarl trying to stop her and Shaw is trying to help her. The viking clans with the 12 days of yule festivities in the snowing landscape give the book great holiday vibes. So the character development and world building were good.
The story is a little slow at times, and I don't know but there was just something about it that just didn't quite grab my attention. Otherwise the story and concept were good and the ending leaves on an interesting cliff hanger and I would recommend and would read the next.
Promised & Pursued pulled me in from the very first page - actually probably the description was enough! I really enjoyed this book overall, thank you for the ARC! The worldbuilding is incredibly immersive, with Viking lore, ancient magic, and winter wilderness woven together in such a vivid, cinematic way that it’s easy to fall straight into the story ❄️
Rasha is an absolute badass heroine. Fierce, capable, and deeply loyal to the women around her, she’s the kind of person you instantly root for. I loved how strongly she refuses to bend to the expectations placed on her, even when the stakes are impossible.
And then there’s Shaw, a quiet, steady blacksmith who sees her for exactly who she is. Their bond grows with this beautiful, aching longing that had me hooked! All that yearning and unspoken emotion between them was so good 🔥
Between the dangerous clan politics, the ancient prophecy surrounding Skadi’s bow, and the tender romance forming in the wintery cold, this story kept me hooked from start to finish. It’s atmospheric, romantic, and full of heart — a perfect adventure with a heroine worth following anywhere.
(Now give us that second book!!! How dare you leave us there? 😩)
🏹Promised & Pursued follows Rasha, a fierce huntress chosen as her clan’s Maiden of Yule. As she takes on the role, she’s drawn into a tense, irresistible pull with Shaw, a man who challenges her duty and her desires. This made all the more difficult by the fact that her brother has promised her to the clan leader Harald. With clan politics, hidden truths, and rising danger closing in, Rasha must choose between bending to the demands of the men in her life or forging her own path and becoming who she was truly meant to be.
I’m a sucker for a Viking romance, but I’m not going to lie this one started a little slow for me. A few early scenes felt more like filler than pieces that pushed the story forward. But once I hit the halfway point? Everything changed. The pacing picked up, the plot threads finally started to click into place, and the tension built beautifully toward the finale. And that finale… WOW. Packed with twists I absolutely did not see coming, and executed to perfection. I’m already counting down the days until I can dive into the next book.
✨Thank you to the author for providing me with an e-ARC of this book!
3.5 I had a pretty solid time with this one. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely had moments that pulled me in more than I expected. The Viking atmosphere was probably the biggest win for me, the way the mythology slipped into the story without feeling like a lecture. Rasha carried the story well, she had that fierce determination that made her fun to follow. Shaw, with all his secrets and quiet intensity, added a good layer of tension whenever he was on the page. I liked the dynamic between them, especially the way respect came before romance. There were definitely moments where the writing felt a little uneven, but the core idea was strong enough that I stayed invested. I kept wishing for a bit more consistency in the worldbuilding and a deeper look into Rasha’s past, because the pieces we got were intriguing but too sparse for me. Overall, it wasn’t a flawless ride, but it had enough tension, atmosphere, and character grit to keep me turning the pages. Thank you so much to the author and The Nerd Fam for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. You can tell the author has put in a huge amount of research into Viking religious and social traditions, and it absolutely pays off. It feels rooted in real history rather than just grabbing the “Viking aesthetic” for vibes, and that authenticity gives the whole story so much depth.
The characters fit the era beautifully too. There’s a clear tension between old beliefs and the creeping influence of monotheism and patriarchy, and the book shows how that shift impacts everyday life. Everyone felt grounded and believable, and I had such a strong mental image of them as I read.
Rasha especially stole my heart. I was desperate for her to break free from the life her brother controlled and finally live on her own terms. And the MMC? Exactly what you want from a Viking hero. He balances that protective instinct with respecting her strength — and the moments where he oversteps and she lets him know it are so good. It’s a brilliant exploration of feminine rage in a world where women’s freedoms are being stripped away by an invasive king.
It’s incredibly well written, immersive and tense, and I’m already itching to get my hands on whatever comes next.
A romantasy with vikings, marriage for convenience and gods. I loved that this book wasn't the conventional viking book with "glory in battle" written in every line. I do love a good battle scene but in romance it's hard for me to get into a good battle and then be whiplashed into a hot and heavy romance romp. I just can't fully take the scene seriously and this book was not that.
There were lots of interesting scenes with games and hunts which developed the main characters relationship very well. The hunt scene also made my heart speed up in suspense. Something about hide and seek just really gets my anxiety spiking. Then made me blush in five seconds. That was a very welcomed rollercoaster.
We had our sweet moments develop outside of the tense fighting for their lives moments with Rasha and Shaw in the cabin and the smexy hot and heavy scene in the cave. Now I have expectations for caves.
My absolute favorite character had to be Vidarr. I will miss that awkward, sweet, feathery, wing man.
I can't recommend this book enough. I have high hopes for Rasha to really come into herself and maybe we will get to see her put her new powers to use and become an epic badass FL.
