Miss Emma Darling is content—living with her mother and grandmother, gardening, practicing her healing and illusions, and avoiding any attempts at matchmaking. Nothing can change that, not even her best friend’s brother—her own former friend—returning to town.
Kane Peters can’t for the life of him understand why Emma loathes him so completely. They were such good friends before he left for university, and she never seemed to mind that, thanks to his family curse, he spent half his time as a wolf. He always imagined that they’d end up married, but there’s no hope of that unless he can find out what he did wrong and fix it.
Emma, barely willing to tolerate Kane for his sister’s sake, unexpectedly finds herself needing his help when her step-cousin arrives for a surprise visit. She’s the only one who finds Richard’s behavior suspicious, but she’s convinced he’s up to something and determined to find proof.
Can Emma and Kane sort out their differences before Richard enacts his diabolical—or perhaps perfectly innocent—plan?
Enjoy this YA retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood,” set in a Regency England where Faeries are real and magic is an acceptable accomplishment for young ladies. Each book in the Regency Magic Faerie Tales series is a standalone that can be read in any order.
I am very lucky to be a part of Eliza Prokopovits ARC team and after loving The Sea-Bears Bride I was excited to read the next installment in this series. While I didn’t enjoy it as much as the authors other books it was still a sweet story with a second chance romance. Little Res Riding Hood is not my favorite fairy tale but I have enjoyed several retellings of it (including this one). It is interesting to see how a story about a deceitful wolf and a little girl can be transformed into such a cozy retelling. I also really enjoyed how the main character Emma is able to confront her fear of abandonment and work towards the goal of obtaining a future with Kane. Her grandmother, and mother were also wonderfully supportive characters as well. And her sweet friendship with Lisette is another bright spot to the storyline. Although Her Darling Wolf is supposedly final entry in the series it seems there will be one more entry which I am excited to read. I look forward to reading the rest of the previous books in this wonderful series and seeing how it all concludes by the end.
My only small complaint is that the main conflict with her relative Richard is rather anti-climactic and although it ends on a sweet note I would have preferred perhaps a little more drama and suspense. But honestly the story is good for what it is and is short enough that it is easy to finish. Overall an enjoyable cozy read
This was a wonderful retelling of Little Red Riding Hood and the whole story was just so sweet, heartfelt, and touching. Kane was so sweet and adorable, especially in his wolf form and I just loved how this book was not about breaking a curse but about living with one. Honestly, Kane's curse is not bad at all and I love how his family integrates the curse into their regular lives. Emma was also such a nice heroine as she is a proper, regency-era lady, but she still prefers practical achievements over useless, suitor-grabbing achievements. I love how she had to learn to forgive Kane and accept love back into her heart after experiencing so much loss. Even though this book wasn't exactly fast-paced with lots of action, I loved all the sweet, intimate, loving moments between Emma and Kane, Emma and Lisette, and Emma and her mother and grandmother. I loved how this story really focused on interactions and feelings rather than simply being event after event. Overall, this book was so sweet, adorable, and 100% clean and I absolutely loved it!
I received and ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.
Her Darling Wolf by Eliza Prokopovits is a sweet fairy tale retelling that you can’t help but love.
I always enjoy the author’s Regency Magic Faerie Tales Series, with each being a standalone with a twist in the regency era. A little bit of magic there, a little bit of curses there, and viola you have a beautiful story. The author does such a beautiful twist on each of the stories that you can’t really expect the outcome of the book.
🐺Childhood friends to enemies to lovers 🐺Regency 🐺Miscommunication trope (but not bad or annoying at all) 🐺Golden retriever 🐺Second chance romance 🐺Low stakes
This one was especially cute, both of the characters’ POV provided such great insights into the characters and the struggles of each. The complexities of the backstory, the curse, and just the entire story was super cute. I loved the twist on red riding hood. The drama was relatively low which made for such a cozy read!
If you like regency but hoped it had a little twist, this series is for you! Highly recommend!
Such a sweetly clean retelling of Red Riding Hood, where the wolf is not a villain - this is a Regency romance that has the same sort of touch as Katherine Dotterer's Catalini Tales, so I do recommend this to fans of Katherine Dotterer.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
