Mrs Elizabeth Carrington is rescued by Mr Darcy and his sister on the most difficult day of her life!
The Bennets have endured tragedies over the past few years, with only Jane and Kitty remaining at home with Mr Bennet. Elizabeth, a widow in her year of mourning, must attend Town and encourages Jane to accompany her.
A warm friendship had blossomed between Elizabeth and Miss Georgiana Darcy. Meeting up again in London during Georgiana's introduction into society, the young ladies spend much time together. However, soon it becomes clear someone is watching them from the shadows.
Darcy, a widower himself, finds his attention captivated by the young widow. Who is watching the ladies, and why? It could only be for nefarious reasons! These are the questions tormenting him as he struggles between caring for his sister and trying to ensure Elizabeth's safety. At the same time, he wonders if he might be worthy enough to win her heart.
This is a story to be savored. However tempted you are to devour it as quickly as possible!
The Bennet’s lives have been tragically disrupted. Lydia’s bad decision to elope with Wickham ends her life. Mrs Bennet is next as the loss is too much to bear.
Lizzy had married a Naval Captain in Plymouth. Who must leave her as his ship goes out to sea.
But she soon realizes she is pregnant, then her husband dies on a voyage. She doesn’t want to be alone so she starts a journey to her Aunt Gardener in London.
Halfway on a post coach she is briefly stopped at an inn where Darcy and Georgiana see her in distress and offer to assist her as she goes into labor.
From there on is a riveting story that will keep you up nights!
There’s danger, mystery, surprise and delicious romance galore!
Elizabeth’s courage truly rose to hard to imagine heights in this great read!
Plot - Lizzie’s a widowed new mother. Darcy’s a widower focused on avoiding social interactions and being an awesome big brother. A chance encounter sparks an ongoing friendship and a story of a cute baby, an assassination plot, and a HEA.
Characters - Nothing bugs me more in FF than when everyone is out of character. This author does a great job of keeping everyone in character with believable adjustments for the specifics of the changed plot.
Readability - Well edited and clearly written.
Originality - I’ve read my share of JAFF (and FF in general), and I liked the uniqueness of this author’s variation. I’m a sucker for a baby fic, but that can be hard to pull off in the JA universe. This was both believable and enjoyable!
I loved this story. Elizabeth doesn’t start as her carefree self- she’s experienced too much sadness in her life. Jane too. She is definitely more jaded in this story. I would have liked to have read more about her story with Bingley, but it didn’t make the book less enjoyable.
I enjoyed this story. There was a lot going on and it kept you interested but not confused or overwhelmed. I liked how ODC relationship built. I would have liked more interactions between them earlier in the book but I can't have all that i want. There was a passion between them, but there was no burn. This was a clean read. Even Wickham got more action than Darcy .
An alternate universe in which Darcy does not come to Netherfield, but travels Europe with Georgiana for some time and does not meet Lizzy until some few years later. Meanwhile, Lydia has disgraced the family and Elizabeth married a sea Captain, got widowed, and pregnant. The excitement continues from there and it is good plot. The only concern for me is that the author changes from past to present tense in many places throughout the book, and it is disconcerting to me as a reader involved in the story.
I got lost in this story and became a part of it. I could never begin to explain it to you, except to say that it is complete, containing all the aspects that a story should have.
How does Elizabeth come to be living with an Earl and catering to his every need?
Why is Elizabeth surrounded by guards?
Why are Jane and Elizabeth living in Matlock House?
A most engaging tale of second chance love! The book is well written, with believable characters and situations. This is one of the most engaging and pleasing stories in the Pride and Prejudice fan fiction realm that I have read.
This story grabbed me immediately. As the characters developed. I learned their true nature.
Georgianna's kind nature was the catalyst that started the ball rolling. The reader learns of the losses each had to overcome to achieve the final conclusion. The strength of the main characters protected them from additional pain. It also enabled then to protect each other
This was a great story! My first with this author. I loved the way ODC interacted. I enjoyed Georgiana's spine with Lady M. My only disappointment was that when Darcy took Elizabeth back to the Inn where they met, they didn't mention to Mrs. Hobbs that she delivered the next Earl of Carrington.
It has intrigue. It has romance...the swoon-worthy type. It has ODC together. It is this author's first published book, and it is excellent. Looking forward to her next book. I highly recommend this book.
Love all of the characters in this one. Each well fleshed out. Circumstances are unique but our dear couples strengths are still there. I borrowed it and then bought it!
This story is truly exceptional. Swoon-worthy Darcy, strong Elizabeth, and a much altered Bennet family. It is well-written with plenty of ODC page time.
1st time read by this author & marathon read to finish (well, ok, i let my dogs out twice, took quick shower & made some tea) but read straight thru. not typical PP variation (ODC overcoming their PP) but same characters diff circumstances. Lydia/Wickham debacle does happen, Bennet Family experiences complete shunning w/disastrous consequences, Mary married a Parson refuses to have anything to do w/her family, Elizabeth a pregnant new financially strapped widow tryna make it back to Longbourn & the Darcys meet her @ an Inn during her arduous journey. The wonderful Gardiners willing to help Elizabeth & help her claim any inheritance & offer housing. The noble Matlock Family play integral parts & eventually Lord Matlock takes a protective role wanting to aid a war widow with paperwork etc- but Lady Matlock voices strong concerns over Trade connections but Georgiana desires to keep the connection w/Elizabeth. The heaviest angst comes from a bad guy willing to do the ‘baddest’ thing to prevent any claims to any inheritance- u may figure who the culprit was but his factotum was surprise to my tired brain when revealed :-o —but it all made sense. HEA for ODC & other main characters, Caroline B is a particularly bad seed & gets well deserved comeuppance by a surprising person which I admit, always enjoy. Recommend for 12 yrs+ and will read this entertaining book again.
I read this in Fan Fiction before its publication. It was a Wonderful action packed story. A few unique situations were created. This variation is full of suspense and intrigue, but not much angst, which I love. Definitely a worthy read.
Warning: Meant for mature audiences. Contains scenes that would scandalize the ton. Readers of a delicate constitution are advised to keep their fans and vinaigrettes close at hand. Contains scenes of violence and scenes mentioning abuse and neglect.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. Mrs Elizabeth Carrington is rescued by Mr Darcy and his sister on the most difficult day of her life.

THIS story is what should be made into a TV series!!! Action, danger, damsel in distress, gallant heroism, it’s all here. In this tale, Darcy takes Georgiana on a long tour of their estates after Ramsgate; the Bingleys never lease Netherfield; Wickham was his old nasty self, and much more… the carriage he and Lydia we taking to London crashed and Lydia died. That’s when the story diverges. The Bennets are shunned by Meryton society, and Mrs. Bennet succumbed to her fits of nerves and passes away. Lizzy goes to live with the Gardiners, and meets a handsome Naval Captain and in a whirlwind romance, marries him. However, he needs to return to sea as the war with Napoleon is not over. Lizzy and he had four months together before his departure, and it was after he sailed that Lizzy found out she was pregnant. Unfortunately, the Captain went down with his ship, and Lizzy was forced to make her own way back to her family. Our story begins here. And I will not spoil it for you. You will NOT regret buying this book!
This story presented an interesting series of events all beginning at a roadside Inn. I enjoyed watching Darcy, Georgiana, Elizabeth and Jane have many interactions. The suspense surrounding Elizabeth and her son Alex kept me reading on to see what would happen. I loved how family and unconditional love came out on top of the end.
I don't know if this is really a 5 star or just 4, but in the last few weeks I DNFed more books than the entire 2025!!! and this story captivated me.
It is well written, the characters were well behaved with hints of passion (nothing happens), but both Lizzy and William being widowed is not inappropriate.
I’m not usually a fan of variations where Elizabeth has been married before but this one was very well written. The usual villains were background actors and the new main villain lent just the right amount of angst.
Maximum E and D interaction throughout the whole story, and not contentious, but caring and respectful. Lots of new characters, but not overwhelming. Really great, original plot. An excellent read.
A most interesting story, out of canon, but without angst between our beloved couple. That doesn’t mean that it is not a page turner. There are a lot of intriguing things happening, and danger lurks. Very enjoyable and entertaining!
A highly unusual story of Elizabeth and Darcy. They meet on the day Elizabeth gives birth to her son at an inn. She is widowed and traveling home to Longbourn. Georgiana calls Fitzwilliam's attention to the widow being ogled by the men in the inn's common room while she waits for the coach. They 'rescue' taking her taking her into their care. Stupid Lydia is in the past, so we aren't subject to her histrionics and Mrs Bennet has also passed away. What is left, is a broken family finding peace and happiness.
