Having really enjoyed this authors 'Mobster's' books I decided to branch out a little and see what else she'd written, as soon as I saw vampire I started reading.
The reviews for this book are all good and I'm going to try and explain exactly how I feel about this so bear with me.
The first time we meet Sybrina she's cold and shivering in the hold of a cargo ship, she's dressed as a boy and fleeing for her life from whatever it was that killed her entire family. Sybrina is an unusual woman especially for the time, it's 1866 and she was at Oxford studying medicine to become not a nurse but a doctor. We get Sybrina's story mainly through dreams and slowly we're able to put together a picture of her life.
Elijah is a vampire besotted with Sybrina but he's brought death to her door.
Firstly it's taken me ages to read this, I will stress it's not the books fault it's just life getting in the way.
Initially it wasn't at all what I expected and at times I felt disappointed that it didn't move faster and more didn't happen and the huge excerpts from Moby Dick, A Christmas Carol etc didn't help and felt like filler but being broken off from reading so many times didn't help I know, especially with this book.
I struggled with Elijah because he didn't fit my idea of a vampire to me they're invincible, tall, handsome, strong confident and sexy as hell. Elijah was badly injured with his immortal body shutting itself down into a sleepless unconsciousness repeatedly while he heals, suffering from terrible guilt and all together a bit melancholy. If I'm being totally honest I don't think I fully appreciated this book while I was reading it, in fact I know I didn't it wasn't until after sleeping on it and before writing this review that I realised what a little gem it is. The writing and descriptions are beautiful and atmospheric and it was so much more than I first thought it was just my expectations getting in the way.
It's a different vampire story and very fitting with the time in which its set, the writing and descriptions put you there and make it easy to visualise everything. If you decide read this book my advice is set off expecting a slow yet descriptively rich book with some amazing characters and don't make the same mistake as me give this book time, try to read it when you can fully appreciate it and allow yourself to be absorbed.
An example of how this book is different is below as Elijah describes the beauty of being human:

***This life has a blandness to it. The richness of the senses and the maturity that comes with humanity’s aging is lost. Vampires don’t have the luxury of change.....Growing from child, to adult, to old age is a gift that completes a perfect circle—with each chapter, experiencing life through changing eyes..... Longevity does not make us infallible or omniscient. Many vampires search for purpose or find mischief to fill the long years. The truly unlucky wretches find madness.....***

I beta read this book!

I really enjoyed this book I love paranormal romance books but I had never actually read one that was set historically! The main characters are brilliant. Sybrina is a very well together strong character she takes everything that is thrown at her. Elijah is a very mysterious character and it is great to see how the relationship between the two transpires. There are also some great side characters in this story too!

The story is set in the 1800's and the way that Amy has written it makes you transport back to that time and how lives were lived etc and get a feel for the characters and visualise them. What I really enjoyed about this story is that it wasn't rushed and I feel the historical timing of the book has been very well researched.

I really could not put this book down and I would love to see future books within this as I feel there is so much more that can be done with these characters

I must say that this another fine read from Amy the book is very believable and makes you fall in love with the characters! I am giving this book a well earned 5 stars. I'm sat here now happily waiting for more from this very talented writer!

My advice is to go and get this book on release day you will not be disappointed and while you are the check out her other books!

If you have never read anything by Amy Rachiele, you are missing out on reading stories by a talented gifted writer. Amy's stories have compelling plots, main and secondary characters that come to life within their pages and are true to life. They make you want to not put the book down till you finish the story.

Sabrina is just another wonderful story that hooks you in the first few pages and keeps you reading till the final sentence. I especially loved the interaction between main character Sabrina and the characters of Elijah and Mouse.

Don't miss out on a great story, READ SABRINA

Sybrina
By Amy Rachiele
***1/2 - Good book with beautiful writing

Sybrina, a Victorian era paranormal romance by Amy Rachiele is unlike most books in the genre I've read. Ms. Rachiele’s use of beautiful dialogue and unique perspective on the typical vampire story make this a book a good read.

Sybrina, as aforementioned, takes place in the Victorian era on board The Water Witch bound for England from the United States. On board in the belly of the huge ship where the lower-class passengers are housed if a young, well-educated, affluent woman, Sybrina, disguised as a young man. She is in disguise not only to keep herself safe as a young woman traveling alone, but also because she’s on the run from an evil that killed her entire family but also, she fears, may be after her as well.

Above deck in one of the upper-class cabins is a vampire named Elijah who is not only traveling under the guise of being a man of the cloth, but is there to keep Sybrina safe from the evil she fears-an evil he created.

I have to say even though I found myself interested in the journey of Elijah and Sybrina, there were quite a few moments throughout the book where I felt the pace was very slow. Indeed there were moments where I felt as though Ms. Rachiele knew there was a lull so she added excerpts from other works such as Moby Dick and the Bible. It almost felt like filler material to me and took away from the flow.

The writing of the overall book was magnificent and quite eloquent. Ms. Rachiele’s use of dialogue throughout was amazing. "'There is something harmonious about the sea and the sky...In the distance they are married, blending together...'" "'But it is a mirage. Never the two shall meet.'" The images created by her words are beautiful. I also enjoyed the change in POV that went so smoothly between Elijah and Sybrina.

Ms. Rachiele’s originality was a great change of pace when it comes to reading vampire books. She explores different aspects of vampiric lore while letting her characters debunk the myths she doesn't find plausible.

Sybrina was a good read, one I would recommend to someone looking forward to a different take on a paranormal romance featuring vampires.

Set in the late 1800's, Vampire's Need is a wonderfully written historical paranormal romance. Ms. Rachiele's attention to detail is what really made this story great. The historical feel of the story was authentic, and the writing was quite beautiful, appropriate for the time period.

The characters in this story were fantastic. I loved Sybrina. She was strong, brave, and intelligent. She makes an admirable female lead. Even when her circumstances were dark and she had reason to grieve, she thought of others before herself, always trying to make the world a better place. I enjoyed following her on her journey, meeting her new friends, and of course Elijah. Learning of him and his own hardships was a journey of its own.

This story was different from Amy Rachiele's previous books, but I enjoyed it just as much.

I received this book from lovers of Paranormal (LoP) in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of Elijah who is a melancholy vampire, tired of his long life, unable to end it and unsure of what to do with his awakened feelings for Sybrina. Sybrina is a woman before her time, not meant to fit in the folds of Victorian Society, the first woman to attend Oxford to study medicine. Everything is good until Vadim, a psychotic vampire created by Elijah, decides to savagely kill Sybrina's family and chase her across the sea to kill her too. Elijah manages to protect her and all is well in the end. This was such a lovely story and am hoping that we will get to hear more about them. This was the first book I've read from this author and will definitely be reading her other work.

impatience, this is the word to describe me waiting for this book! Was the wait worth it? Oh my yes!!! Once again Amy has brought characters to life that you can care about, worry about, dislike or love and after all, isn't that what we all look for in a good read? A wonderfully strong woman, doing what she has to do to survive a voyage, that, quite frankly, I would have perished during!

To find someone to care for you and look out for your safety...a true gift no matter the century or the circumstance! Thank you, Amy, for a great and exciting read!

Waiting for the next book!

Sybrina was a refreshing read because it had a mixture of history, vampire lore, and romance. I particularly connected with Sybrina. She is smart and overcame serious obstacles. I felt like I was on a clipper ship in 1866. I recommend this book to those who are searching for something different.

I was kindly gifted this book from the author. Vampire's Need is an intriguing historical story of love and loss. Sybrina is running for her life from an unknown killer. Devastated by the slaughter of her family, she flees the states back to England where she was studying medicine. Fearing her safety, she dresses as a boy. But when disaster hits her fellow travelers, she does what she knows, tend to the wounded. Her journey is filled with angst and fear. When she herself becomes I'll, her unknown savior brings her through. Sparks ignite between Sybrina and Elijah. He has vowed to protect her no matter the cost. When the unknown killer finds her, her nightmare just begins. A vampire slayer is born. So loved this book! Hoping for a continuation of Sybrina and Elijah.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal).

To be honest, I did not really like this book ! For me the book was really bland and nothing really happens in the whole book except for the last 10-20 pages. This book neither was the average paranormal romance books we see nor was it anything extraordinary. And I don't understand why I was reading 3-4 pages of 'a Christmas carol' in a book of 162 pages just to make 1 not so funny joke !

Therefore, not giving it anything more than 2 stars.
