For most teenagers, figuring out what to do after high school is one of the more daunting aspects of growing up. For Angela, dark family secrets are unfolding, making the importance of college applications fall away and feel unnecessary.

Entered into an arranged marriage with the cartel leader's son, Angela's only option is to figure a way out of the set up. Moving from Texas to California, Angela hopes that distance will put an end to the arrangement and prevent anyone from bringing her back home and delivering her back into the hands of the cartel.

With a new life in the making, her hopeful dreams are tarnished when everything she's running from catches up to her and casts a shadow on the future she's planned for herself. Will she bend to the will of the cartel? Or is Angela strong enough to risk everything and break free of that old life?

Thank you Tory for this gifted copy! Breaking Tradition a short, quick read that follows Angela as she tries to figure out what she wants from life. The things she has gone through growing up and continue you go through are heavy for anyone, especially a recent high school grad. Getting some time away from her family and forming bonds with people outside her circle showed her how a different life could be. It allowed to make a fully formed decision on her future.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it if you're looking for something a little different from a typical coming-of-age story.

This book absolutely left me speechless. The female main character is beautifully written with all her flaws, quirks, and wishes at the forefront. She goes through so much in this story that I just want to reach in, give her a hug, and tell her it’ll be alright. If you aren’t afraid of tough topics and are looking for a read that is something new and not mainstream while also highlighting some very real life matters in regards to the darker parts of society, this is a great book for you. Highly recommend!

I only read this book because it was a birthday gift. I didn’t really enjoy it… I only gave it 2 stars because it was short and I managed to finish it.
