Regency Murder & Marriage #6

A Captain, a Corpse, and Miss Bridges

Rate this book
Miss Flora Bridges is well accustomed to village gossip—but while whispers of witchcraft she can endure, accusations of murder are quite another matter.

When the trustee of her newly inherited fortune, the pompous Sir Ambrose Quill, turns up dead, every eye in Plumpton turns on her. The only bright spot in the chaos is the distractingly handsome naval captain determined to keep her out of trouble—though he may prove even more dangerous to her heart.

Captain James Thorne came to Plumpton to unmask a swindler, not to fall for a woman accused of murder. But the moment he meets Miss Flora Bridges, he’s caught between duty and desire. And the more time he spends with her, the more determined he becomes to protect her name…and claim her heart.

From poisoned port to whispered love potions, village gossip to matchmaking mamas, A Captain, a Corpse, and Miss Bridges is a witty Regency mystery brimming with charm, romance, and just a touch of magic.

Flora’s story is finally here! The sixth installment of my Regency Murder and Marriage series is now live on Amazon.

Flora is a maid turned heiress with a gift for herbs and remedies, who suddenly finds herself accused of murder—but luckily, there’s a certain very handsome naval captain ready to step in and help clear her name.

I so hope you enjoy returning to Plumpton for another cozy Regency mystery filled with romance, wit, and village gossip. Writing this series has been such a joy (so much so that I may have just one last Christmas tale up my sleeve).

These books are the cosiest of mysteries and I adore them. They could not be described as literary fiction, but if you want a ridiculous slice of Regency country life, with a girl, a man of fortune and a murder with amusing side characters then these books are for you. They're light, fluffy, funny and a bit absurd. To be honest, it's not difficult to figure out whodunit, but that doesn't really detract from the story.

But, for the love of all things good, please get a proof reader. First it was someone's husband, then her father, then she herself who had lost money and then there's the curious case of the Rosemary that kept turning into Thyme and back again. Please make you mind up.

5* for the cozy read. 3* for the bad editing

Another short and sweet historical romance. There is nothing better to bring two lovers together than a murder investigation. Flora skilled with remedies, fish out of water and down bad for her captain and to be honest he's not much better. Enjoyable read!

While A Captain, a Corpse, and Miss Bridges isn’t my favorite installment in the Regency Murder and Marriage series, it’s still an enjoyable and worthwhile addition—especially for fans who love returning to the quirky, gossip‑filled village of Plumpton.

One of the highlights of this book is getting to explore characters outside the central Mifford clan. Flora Bridges, formerly a maid and now an unexpected heiress, is a refreshing heroine with a complicated past and a sharp sense of self. Pairing her with a retired naval captain—steady, honorable, and quietly smitten—makes for a delightful match. Their chemistry is gentle and warm, the kind that sneaks up on you rather than explodes.

And Flora’s grandmother? An absolute gem. Every scene she’s in adds humor, heart, and just the right touch of eccentricity.

The mystery itself is classic Plumpton: poisoned port, swirling gossip, and a village full of people who jump to conclusions faster than they bake a pudding. It’s fun, twisty, and full of personality, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights of earlier books in the series.

Overall, this is a charming, magical‑tinged cozy with romance, mischief, and a heroine who deserves every bit of happiness coming her way. Not the strongest in the lineup, but still a lovely visit back to Plumpton.
