Solitude

Rate this book
Sixteen-year-old Atlas Stone has always felt caught between too quiet for the chaos of Whittermoor School, too restless for the stillness of her grandparents' cottage in Tranquil. Haunted by the loss of her parents and shadowed by the absence of her sister, Lillie, Atlas finds comfort in the woods, in the company of her eccentric best friend, Celestia, and in the mysterious red cardinal that seems to follow her wherever she goes.

When her wayward Uncle Leeson returns home acting strangely, Atlas's life tilts further off balance. Her days at school bring new connections; Benji, the shy boy from Misery, and tentative encounters with John, the boy who makes her heart race; but also sharpen her unease with Minister Cain Whitter, the powerful head of Whittermoor whose charm hides something darker.

A field trip to the Sea Cliffs begins to unravel long-buried secrets about Solitude's wonders, its forgotten history, and the forbidden figure whispered about as the Witch in the Wood. When Celestia's wild stories start aligning with the strange pull Atlas feels toward the woods and the cardinal's song, Atlas begins to suspect that her family's past-and her own future-are tied to a truth others want to keep hidden.

As friendships deepen and loyalties are tested, Atlas must decide whether to stay safe in the world she knows or step into the mystery that's been calling her since the night of her haunting dream. Because in Solitude, the woods don't lie and the truth may cost her more than she's ready to give.

Oh boy I ate this book up. I am absolutely enraptured by the world of Solitude and the mysteries that lay within it!
I can’t wait to read the rest of this series as it comes out and see how Atlas carries on, especially after that ending!
No spoilers, but I find each of the characters to be dynamic and compelling, and in some cases incredibly suspicious.
