Some poetry collections announce themselves with fireworks. muses arrives quietly, like finding a letter you didn't know you needed.
destiny harrington's five-year journey through love, loss, motherhood, and early adulthood unfolds across four seasons, each ending with what she promises: "... you will find your muse, and when you do, it will be glorious." But it's the tension before those endings that makes this collection breathe—the honest reckoning with what it costs to become yourself.
Consider this poem:
i may be dainty
but i am far from weak
i may be small
but i am fierce
i may be a woman
but i am far from
inconsequential
This is the voice throughout: clear-eyed, self-affirming, refusing diminishment. harrington writes with the lowercase styling of contemporary confessional poetry, but her assertions are anything but quiet. These are poems that know their worth.
The seasonal organization gives the collection structure without forcing it. You can read straight through or open to any season and find something that lands. I found myself returning to certain poems the way you revisit conversations with someone who sees you clearly.

It is a special experience to watch someone you care about pour five years of their life into a creative project and then see that work finally out in the world. Having seen the dedication and the heart that Destiny Harrington put into this collection firsthand, I can say that muses is a beautiful reflection of her journey.

I just finished Muse, and I have to say—it really surprised me in the best way. I’m not usually drawn to poetry, but this one completely held my attention from start to finish.
There’s something really special about how the book unfolds. It doesn’t just feel like a collection of poems—it feels intentional, almost like a quiet journey. I especially loved how it’s organized by seasons; it adds this natural sense of movement and emotion, like you’re experiencing different phases alongside the writing.

This book is not just a collection of poems, it is a journey through the many seasons of life. Destiny unfolds her life through vivid, particular language that feels intimate and real. Muses is a beautiful collection filled with emotion and, most importantly, joy.
