Origin of Love #1

Struck: Myth of Eros and Psyche

Rate this book
He thought he knew everything about love, until she made him redefine it. When Eros, the devil-may-care god of love is pricked by his own arrow, he falls for the most unsuitable of mates, a mortal woman he has been ordered to destroy. Without knowing Eros’s true identity, spirited, intelligent Psyche shows the god just what it means to be on the receiving end of his arrows, with all its sweet pain and torment, and all its rapture. Eros soon discovers what love can mean to mortals, what it should mean to the gods, and that he could quite possibly be one of the most powerful beings in Olympus. Not all the gods admire this young upstart’s newly discovered powers. The laws forbid their union, and Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and passion, is determined to see Psyche destroyed. Furthermore, the two must deal with their own doubts about themselves and each other which threaten their fragile relationship as much as Zeus’s wrath. Will Eros and Psyche become the canon of all that love has the potential to be, or will they follow a tragic path, with lessons learned too late to save them? Based on the Greco-Roman myth of Eros and Psyche, the heart of ancient Greece is explored, where the world of imperfect gods and goddesses are fatefully intertwined with the humans they rule.

The story of Eros & Psyche is another Greek love story I absolutely love. This retelling of their love story was creative and passionate. I loved Psyche’s relationship with her father (couldn’t stand her mother). Also how Psyche spoke her mind about the Gods. Eros was funny and mature; I hope he learns more about TRUE love from Psyche, not just love created by his arrows. After reading STRUCK, I was begging for more. Thank you Jendela Tryst for this book, can’t wait to read BOOK 2: SCORCHED.

I love how Ms. Tryst has take the myth of Psyche and Eros and given it a new twist. We get a lot of back story in this tale. We get to see how Eros fell in love with Psyche and how she fell in love with him even though he was disguised as a humble sheppard named Erik. Eros was trying so valiantly to follow his mother's orders to humiliate Psyche because she was named more beautiful than Aphrodite herself. I think it's stupid how the myth of Eros and Psyche makes Aphrodite to be this vain and shallow goddess when I think she has a lot more potential than that. She should be teaching women that every woman is beautiful and that true love is more important than anything else. But alas we never get that in a retelling. Also in this story her parents are farmers instead of a king and queen though the jealous sisters are still there.

I did enjoy this book and I'm looking forward to reading book two. Both are available on Kindle Unlimited so there's no excuse not to read them.

Psyche and Eros - favorite Greek myths ever, but with an awesome twist! I laughed, I cried, I felt their passions! Each character, no matter how small, was compelling and multidimensional.

You see all types of loves in this book: an obsessive love, a platonic love, and true, agape love. I love the characters of Psyche and Eros. Eros, a mischievous little thing he is, who never truly understood the power of love until he fell in love with Psyche. Psyche, she is indeed a bad ass! In the original Greek myths, she often had help of the gods during Aphrodite’s labors. In this story, she had little help and it was her own determination, her own drive, and her love for Eros was made her get through such daunting and deadly tasks.

Also, I love the fact that Psyche isn’t some daughter of a king, but of a poor farmer. I like that she is intelligent, passionate, and a good debater. I like that she is kind and selfless. She sacrificed a lot in the name of love!

Definitely a recommended read!
