This fantasy novel is captivating, the kind of story that makes escaping reality feel effortless. Told from various character points of view, it balances rich world-building with character-driven depth. The good banter between leads adds levity, even as the narrative wrestles with darker themes.

At its heart, the story showcases a protective, steadfast warrior yet he is capable of unconditional love as the main male character alongside an independent, yet emotionally conflicted, resilient female character. Their dynamic feels both relatable and compelling, especially as they confront the truth about their personal demons and past traumas.

The romance is layered, fueled by an innate desire for love and affection, yet complicated by trust and vulnerability. The steamy, sensual moments are balanced with emotional intimacy, reminding us that humans are complex creatures, capable of both passion and pain.

This is more than just a fantasy tale—it’s a story of survival, healing, and love that lingers long after the last page.

For all the girls hung over from Throne of Glass please read! The FMC is a strong FMC and gives off Aelin Vibes strong willed and able to defend herself. This book has great detail and story line that’s easy to follow along. MMC is refreshing and I love how he falls first and puts up with FMC antics. Good spice level enough balance between plot/spice and adventure. Highly recommended. Can’t wait for book 2!

⭐ 4/5 | ⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD

I went into Where My Demons Hide completely blind. It was a signed gift and I did not even read the synopsis. I was hooked immediately. The writing is vivid and easy to visualize and I flew through the chapters. The world map and trigger warnings at the beginning were a thoughtful touch that set the tone well.

I did remove one star because the pacing is very fast and often erratic. Conflicts come up and then resolve almost immediately with very little processing or fallout. I kept wishing the story would slow down and give certain moments room to land.

🖤 Characters and Relationships (spoilers)
————————————————————————

- Keenan is my favorite character. His respect for consent and the way he constantly reminds Sadie that she has control made their relationship feel safe and meaningful. I loved that Sadie finally told him she loved him. I do wish he had explained the mate bond much earlier or at least hinted more clearly so Sadie could make fully informed choices emotionally and physically.

- Jonas is sweet in some ways, but I do not love him. His care for Sadie often feels driven by desire, and he ignores the fact that his touch hurts her. He means well but comes across as selfish and boundary-blind at times.

- Nile’s sudden shift in behavior toward Sadie near the end felt random and unexplained.

🌪️ The Ending (spoilers)
———————————————

The ending did not work for me. It felt rushed, chaotic, and inconsistent with Sadie’s development. She goes from telling Keenan she loves him for the first time to suddenly believing Hogan’s lies with almost no hesitation. Knowing he was grieving and already had issues with Rayne and Keenan, it did not make sense for her to trust him so blindly.

Kragon trying to trade Sadie for the other humans was unexpected, and I could not tell which queen ordered it. The explanation was not clear.

🌍 Worldbuilding and Lore
———————————————

The world is interesting, but I wanted much more depth. By the end, there were still no meaningful answers about the mating system or the larger lore. Some of the biggest questions left hanging:
• What was in the mating book Keenan was given?
• Why are all the Fae mates human?
• Why does the Earth King keep the mates from the rest of the kingdom?
• Why does Jonas feel a bond with Sadie when his touch causes her pain?
• Why was it hinted that Sadie is only half human?
• Why can she talk to animals?
• Why is Caldric so fixated on her?

The story has so much potential that it was frustrating not to explore these elements more. The pacing only got faster as it went on, especially near the end.

📖 POVs
———————

I usually enjoy multiple POVs, but not all of them felt necessary. Rayne’s chapters often did not add much, and because the tone and internal voice did not change much between characters, it would be easy to forget whose POV it was without the chapter header.

✨ Final Thoughts
———————————-

Despite my issues, the story captivated me. The writing pulled me in immediately, and Sadie’s trauma responses and growth felt believable. Watching her slowly allow herself to live was rewarding. I just wish the book had been longer with more room for lore, worldbuilding, and emotional processing.

I will read the next book when it comes out. Not because this one felt complete, but because I want the answers this book did not give. With more depth, history, and breathing room, this series could be amazing.

JUST HANG IN THERE!!
> Baddie FMC who doesn’t take crap from anyone
> lovable, hilarious, and charming MMC(s)
> a little enemies to lovers
> a little spice
> intriguing fantasy world of fae, humans, dragons and MORE
> multiple POVs

Ok, I was a bit skeptical at first honestly. I had just finished a 6 book series when I opened this one and was not quite ready to open my heart and mind to a new story. The first few chapters I was intrigued, but waiting… for more. Man did Kayla deliver!! By chapter 14 I was completely enthralled. Sadie is a BADDIE when it comes to fighting, but I can tell her trauma makes it incredibly hard for her to let down any walls, unfortunately it also makes it easier for her to accept LIES that feed her insecurity (you’ll see what I mean by the end of this book) Keenan was easy to love. He’s sincere. Intense. Very funny.
I love the dual pov, but also the extra povs throughout the book like from Rayne, Jonas and even Hogans perspective, also, hate Hogan!!! But I can understand why he behaves the way he does. Kayla did a really great job making sure the WHY came across in this book, for each character. Easy to understand their motivations, easy to follow along, easy to love.
I adored this book, I’m so sad I finished it in 24 hours.
It was light hearted, a little spicy, funny at times that had me literally laughing out loud to myself.
You won’t regret picking this book up. Just hang in there if you don’t feel compelled to continue reading in the first few chapters, it’s all worth it! Those chapters are necessary for who Sadie is ❤️
Can’t wait for the next book!

I started this book with high expectations, and I have to say, it did not disappoint. From the very beginning it pulls you in with a plot that seems to whisper “Take my hand,” and before you know it you're RUNNING. I was all about the action! This book is so engaging that I didn’t feel the urge to constantly check the percent or page number I was at. It just held my attention from start to finish.

We have multiple POV’s with Sadie being our MFC. Sadie herself is sassy and witty. She’s fierce despite all she has been through, and I loved her attitude.

That said, I’ll mention a small caveat: I wish there was a bit more depth when it comes to the magic system because it seems very interesting, especially the bond and interactions between dragons and their riders. I think exploring that further could add even more richness to the story, but there’s always a chance book 2 will shed more light on this. Regardless, it’s plenty captivating as is. This is my reason for giving 4 stars, but I can easily see book 2 being a 5 star read for me.

Now.. what’s the deal with Jonas? What does it all mean? I need to know more about that immediately, and don’t even get me started on the ending! It had me kicking and screaming for the next book. I literally put my hand out and said, “NOOO!” Sadie’s quick flip caught me off guard, but I also understand she has been through a lot and doubt is probably an easy to seed plant when you feel like you can only rely on yourself.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see where it goes next! Definitely recommend picking this up. 😊

This book deserves all the hype! The story follows Sadie, a prisoner who escapes a brutal slave-fighting pit in the Human Realm, only to be recaptured hours later and forced into a lethal mating pit in the Fae Realm. It’s there that Keenan, General of the Sky Kingdom, feels the mating bond snap the moment he sees her. What follows is a high-stakes journey of healing, trust, and a love that defies the odds.

Where My Demons Hide has everything a romantasy fan could want:

Non-stop Action: It’s fast-paced and gripping from the very first page.

A Fierce FMC: Sadie is a powerhouse who knows how to hold her own—giving off major Celaena Sardothien vibes.

The Ultimate MMC: Keenan is the "burn the world for her" type, yet remains incredibly tender.

High Stakes: Mind-blowing plot twists, sweet dragons, and a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the sequel.

One of the highlights for me was Keenan’s patience. Because Sadie suffered so much abuse in the human slave pits, Keenan chooses to wait for her to claim him on her own terms, without the pressure of the fated-mate bond hanging over her. The emotional payoff is beautiful. Just look at this quote:

"My heart is yours. Only yours, my lion. Should you ever want it. For however long as you might want it." Instant swoon!

If you loved Throne of Glass and Fourth Wing, you need to add this to your TBR immediately. It is a raw, action-packed story about finding light after the darkest trauma.

✨ Fae
👫 Humans
⚔️ Kingdoms at war

💔 heartbreak and pain (oh the pain😢)
❤️‍🔥 healing and love
🐉 dragons (they can talk🤭)
🦉 side animal characters (they talk too🤭)
🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book. Holy hellz… THIS BOOK!

I just ditched all my Christmas prep responsibilities because I had to read the ending, it could not wait. I am REEELING! In the best and worst ways. So let me tell you.

Our MMC Keenan… oh I love me a man with a possessive side, and he is possessive in all the best ways! 🤭🤭 the way he talks to her and treats her!!!! Ugh 😩

Our FMC Sadie… as soon as I started this book I was getting the same vibes as Aelin and I loved that. She’s strong and can defend herself, alllthoughhh in the end I feel she got a little gullible. Specifically the last chapter, I feel that was out of character.

The twists and turns… they kept twisting, so many things happened and so many questions needing to be answered, I am insanely excited for book 2.
I could not put this down.

I will say I am scared to know if it becomes a thruple in book 2 because I don’t really love those. But otherwise it has been a ride this whole book and it would not stop me from reading it again and reading the next books.

I do think this needs to be on Kindle or available on Amazon because it would be more accessible for more people and easier to find. Which it deserves to be read♥️

Where My Demons Hide completely pulled me in from page one and never once let go. This is the kind of book that keeps you glued to your seat, whispering “just one more chapter” until suddenly you’re done and staring at the wall in shock .
Told through multiple POVs, the story stays fast-paced, immersive, and unpredictable. I thought I knew where things were going more than once… and I was wrong every single time. The twists hit hard, and I loved every second of it.
Sadie is an absolute powerhouse of an FMC 💪🔥—sassy, witty, sharp-tongued, and strong as hell. Her distrust of everyone around her is completely earned, shaped by a lifetime of fighting just to survive. She believes Keenan, the formidable general, sees her as nothing more than a prisoner when all she wants is freedom. What she doesn’t realize is that she’s his mate—and he’s been waiting for her forever, ready to give her everything 🖤.
Add in dragons 🐉, fae ✨, nonstop action, high stakes, and constant tension, and this book was impossible to put down. And that cliffhanger?! I was NOT prepared for it at all —in the best way. I need book two immediately.
If you love strong female leads, fantasy romance, intense action, and shocking twists, this one is a must-read. Thank you to the author for such an addictive, unforgettable ride—I cannot wait to see what happens next! 💥📖💜

I am an avid reader (close to 100 books a year) and was recommended this book by a coworker. I had just finished my last book, so figured even though it’s not my typical genre I’d give it a shot. What a great decision!! Yes, it’s about humans in the Fae world, but it’s written in a way that’s believable and not once did I roll my eyes at the fantasy aspect as I normally would with magical world books. I was impressed by the quality of writing from a new author and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the second book to come out!!

Fantasy isn't normally my genre however I'm glad I gave this a try. It took a little bit for me to get into, but by chapter 13 I was hooked. The world the author created was unique and interesting while still being easy to follow. There's a layered love story, witty banter, dragons, and a strong female lead that can and does defend herself - what more can you really ask for? The story gives multiple characters POVs which intertwine and add depth to one another. My only complaint: the last place I want to be left is on a cliff, hanging.

I absolutely devoured this book! It is action packed, has romance, world building and I need book 2 like yesterday 😂 The highs and the lows will hit you in all your feelings! A strong bad ass FMC who has been through hell and comes out stronger is what I’m here for. You will be devoted to the characters and have so many questions in a good way. There’s fae, humans, fated mates and dragons what more could you want? This book and plot is not one I have read before and I was drawn in from the very first chapter! I would recommend this to any romantasy reader!

This is hands down one of my favorite books I’ve read and absolutely cannot wait for the second book to come out! The character development is steady throughout the book. However, that’s not the best part. The banter had me cackling out loud. It’s raw and emotional and hilarious at the same time. This is one I could not put down, and I already want more! If you do anything today, read this, add it to your TBR, just know it is worth the read!

Oh my gosh, WOW! This is a must read. Sadie is a strong FMC, she escapes hell, finds love and dragons! My favourite chapter is Sadie meeting the dragons! Ends on an absolute cliff hanger after she is betrayed, not by love. It would be so easy to review with spoilers but I won’t. Please read this one, it is fantastic!

This was the best book I read all year and I read some good books! If you loved fourth wing and blood of Hercules you’ll love this. I found the pacing absolutely perfect with so much plot and action packed in with a perfect amount of spice! I will be thinking about this book and these characters daily until the next book is released. I still can’t believe this is self published because it’s just so incredibly perfect! I felt myself creeping towards a reading slump before this book!

I LOVED this book! I would’ve finished it way sooner but, mom life 😅 This was my first ever fantasy read and it DID NOT disappoint. I loved the multiple POVs and how they all tied together in some way. There was fighting, gore, death, but also LOVE, compassion, and SPICE! The general and Sadie have stolen my heart! The ending left me on edge, wanting to know more.

From page one I was hooked. Finished the book in about 12 hours.
Sadie, the main character, was forced into a life that no one should ever endure. As the book evolves, the reader evolves with her as she learns a totally new way to live. Her savior, a strange man, she meets in the strangest of places. The place she thought she’d never be able to leave. Every page, every chapter you become even more drawn in to her strife and how she has been able to overcome obstacles. Only to be betrayed by someone she thought she could trust. This book will have you laughing, crying, angry, sad, confused. And it is all part of this authors way of drawing you in. Book 2 cannot come out fast enough!! Definitely worth losing sleep over.

Final thoughts 💭 5/5 stars from me!

This is a Romantasy that will have you BEGGING (like a good girl) on your knees for more.

I love books with a strong willed FMC who her heart must be warmed by a grumpy Fae. Sadie will have you cheering her on, relating to her, and understanding her all in one.

Keenan is so cute, such a large puppy dog and has so much more character building in store for him in book 2. The Banter between Sadie and Keenan is oh so sweet.

The ending is such a beautiful cliff hanger, making you bite your cheeks in anticipation for Book 2.

Honestly this book is seriously an amazing storyline, and if you have read Fourth Wing or Zodiac Academy honestly you would love this book as well!

I could not put this book down and recommend everyone read this in 2026.

Wow, wow, wow!! When I tell you I wasn’t kidding of how much I enjoyed this book, I binged read it on a weekend.

We go through Sadie’s journey. Let’s just say, she wasn’t born privileged. But born into slavery and made into a “Champion” fighter. Loved how this gives you a Gladiator style fighting. We follow her search for freedom, but doesn’t know who she can trust. Can she love? Being mistreated, abused is hard to accept love for the first time.

🥀Badass FMC
🖤Dual POV
🥀Morally Grey MMC
🖤Found Family
🥀 Betrayal

I am excited for book 2 to come out and can continue Sadie’s journey to fight for freedom. Thank you Kayla for allowing me to read this great story!

Where to begin! I tore through this book. I found the pacing to be great and the characters interesting. I love a strong FMC! I loved the romance and how completely imperfect all of the characters are.

Warning, this book ends on a cliffhanger and you will be dying to know what comes next!
There were a handful of spelling/grammatical errors I had to overlook, but overall I really like the authors voice and can’t wait to read more!

Wow! What great writing. The talent this author has to seamlessly create and tie-in multiple story lines is incredible! The character building is so smooth that you don’t even realize how invested you are in each individual character until you are hooked. I can’t wait to get ahold of book 2

This book was absolutely amazing. Once I started it I could not put it down. The story was detailed and pulled me in from the very first sentence. You have fae, humans, and dragons all in the same world. There are fated mates and lives all intertwined with eachother that keep you on your toes.

Sadie, the FMC, has endured far worse things than alot of characters I have read about and still have a strong will about her. Born in a life that she did not deserve and fights for her freedom every step of the way. As the story progresses you learn more and more about her.

The character building is amazing. You fall in love with all of the main characters and creatures as well as have that need for more information about their past and how they came to be who they are presently. I greatly urge you to pick it up and give it a try.

I put off reading this book for awhile because I knew it would consume me just as I would consume it. I followed many updates leading up to the release so I was prepared about the ending. I knew there would be heartbreak in the form of a cliffhanger and waiting for book 2. What I did not know was how deeply this book would sink its claws into me. This book has it all and a reread is already calling to me. If you are looking for an amazing read, you have found it. Love, betrayal, intrigue, multiple POVs, complex characters, and vivid world building.
