Wrath never fails to disappoint!
Emily, as a character, is one I would certainly not want to cross paths with. She's deranged, twisted, unrelenting and a completely bad ass goth chick. I wanted to cheer for her as a fellow goth, but man, she is brutal!
This book delivers! You can pig yourself out on the shock and gore that's in this. And as always, Wrath is one of the most inclusive authors that exists within the splatterpunk community.

3.5/5 rounded up for GoodReads

You really can't go wrong with anything by Wrath and this book is no exception. I was really excited to pick this up for my first read of 2026 and it did not disappoint. Having really enjoyed 'Rabbit Hunt' and finding out this was kind of a sequel, bringing the charter of Emily to the forefront for a more in-depth understanding of her, I was even more excited to dig in. This is depraved in the most delicious way. Do not read this book if you don't enjoy explicit scenes of violence and sex because this is choked full of it.

Emily starts off with a bang and it's a visceral, emotional rollercoaster the entire way through. I hated Emily so much and I mean that in the best way. Some of my favourite reads feature character I wish I could reach through the pages to strangle with my bare hands. Though I might stop myself from trying Emily, she's scary as fuck.

I also really liked our main character Cala. There's an important narrative being told her about at risk youth with neglectful parents, especially Trans youth. When you have no safe place and your parents don't care about you, you will end up in dangerous hands in the quest for love and acceptance. I really enjoyed how Wrath wrote Cala and her character arc is satisfying. You're left on a cliff hanger which could definately mean more to this story, however I didn't love the ending personally. I don't want to spoil anything at all with my review but I will say I'm not a big monster girl in horror if you will. All that being said, this was a very fun read.

Cala is a trans girl who has a hard time fitting in, she always felt like an outcast everywhere that she went including her own home. One day while Cala was at lunch a hyper goth girl comes and sits by her, within minutes she’s calling Cala her girl, she has never felt more seen or validated before in her life. Cala and Emily start spending time together and not long after they met Cala falls in love with Emily. Accept Emily has a love for horror and all things scary, Not in the way that most people do. Emily starts making Cala do rituals and be involved in these things to make her change. When Cala endures a horrible night with Emily she decides to never speak to her again, That pisses Emily off and her hand her dad end up Kidnapping Cala.

This was such a disgusting and beautiful story. The gore in this book was absolutely gut wrenching. The characters were well thought out and researched and all felt natural even with the unsettling story being told. I felt so bad for Cala and all of Emily and her father’s victims. This story was gripping from start to finish and the ending was so on brand for this story.

4/5 Emily is the sequel/prequel to Wrath’s novel Rabbit Hunt. Though I think you are probably fine reading this on its own as it’s primarily a prequel about Emily who is a character in Rabbit Hunt.

This novel is about Cala a trans woman who becomes involved with Emily not knowing that she is a ruthless and debased killer. Emily and her father torture, rape, and murder people in demonic rituals. Cala get’s forced along for the ride first willingly but then not so much as things get more and more twisted.

As usual with Wrath James White this is very hardcore graphic sexual horror. Not at all for the squeamish. Heed the Trigger Warning at the beginning of the novel depravity and terrible things are here in abundance but if you’ve a mind for graphic hardcore horror you can’t go wrong with Wrath.

Cala is a beautiful girl with a horrendous past. When that past comes knocking at her door, she is forced to relive her years of torture. Cala was lied to, abused, kidnapped, and forced to engage in blood infused hunts by her captors. By one person who Cala thought saw her for her. By someone who said she loved Cala and would never hurt her. By someone named Emily.

Emily isn't your ordinary girl. Rumour has it, she was born from evil. When she first met Cala, she did fall in love with her. But Emily doesn't enjoy being rejected and loosing what's hers. When Cala was almost out of her life, Emily took action. With help from her dad, they used Cala for their own sadistic fun.
Now Cala is forced to relive her own torture because Emily has done the unthinkable. She tells the cops of the hand she played being Emily's victim.

Emily takes the cake for being my favourite crazy girl. The things her and her dad do to people is insane. I loved how this book was placed mainly at a police station. The torture scenes were great and very Wrath. My poor Miguel didn't deserve what he got. Justice for Miguel! A special character from Rabbit Hunt appears in this novel but you don't necessarily have to read Rabbit Hunt first in order to understand Emily. Another banger from the best hardcore extreme horror author in the game! Highly recommend this one!

2.75. This is my worst book of the year it was grotesque and made me feel so uncomfortable which is a me problem as the genre is horror I wanted to DNF on more than one occasion and wish I had rather than push through the ending was poorly executed I’m just so disappointed as I thought I’d really like this the premise sounded so good but hey guess you shouldn’t judge a book by a cover I wouldn’t recommend this personally but each to there own

I was so invested in the story, kinda made me sad that it was over at the end. Emily was so abusive and sadistic, but what she truly something more or was it just what she was believed? Really awesome representation throughout the story.

Wrath James White's newest novel, "Emily", has him outdoing himself once again. This is another exercise in how much a person can withstand and still survive and Wrath really knows how to do it. His upfront trigger warnings here, as with those provided as a disclaimer for "Rabbit Hunt" , are necessary and should be carefully read and heeded according to your specific needs.

The titular character (more specifically, Emily Morgan) is prominently featured, but the recounting of her most recent atrocious, heinous acts comes from Cala. Cala is a transgender male to female girl who had become Emily's main obsession from the day Emily set her sights on Cala and her claws into her (first figuratively but then, well, you'll see....) at Cala's Diversity and Inclusion (DI) high school. Cala had to transfer from her old high school when she was 17 and in her junior year after having been bullied terribly and all but completely rejected by her family over her coming out.

Throughout most of the book Cala recounts her nightmarish experiences with Emily and Emily's medical examiner father, Edmond to a good cop (Detective Sears, who seems genuinely sympathetic)/bad cop (Detective Byron, who insists on sprinkling in the use of Cala's dead name, referring to her as male and being callous with her) duo. Wrath reveals the details of Cala's experiences in shocking, grisly and grave detail, and it's enthralling and terrifying simultaneously. Having escaped the Morgans, Cala has been spending time in therapy trying to heal and is being questioned a year later due to her former relationship with Emily because Emily is now at large.

As it goes, Cala becomes immersed in an 'interesting' love affair and has several extreme sexual encounters with Emily (many including Emily arousing Cala and performing acts that involve Cala's penis, which she hates since she is female, one including a gnarly sacrifice, and one where Emily tries to turn the two of them into werewolves). Eventually Cala decides Emily is really bad news and tries to avoid her. Emily is not having that and Emily and Edmond kidnap Cala and make her their prisoner in their torture dungeon where she is not alone. Cala's family doesn't seem to care enough or seem to try to find her.

Cala quickly finds out just how perverse and depraved the Morgans are when they rape and torture to death their other current victim, Tommy, using their various horrific devices, nasty tools and Edmond's penis (which we learn is elephantine in size as a 'gift' for past sacrifices) in front of her while she is trapped in a cage. Over time Cala goes back and forth between being locked up, raped, and tortured constantly by Emily and Edmond in a myriad of horrendous ways (most of the time) to being dressed and 'prettied up' by Emily and the three of them going out as a 'family' where they pretend Cala is also Edmond's daughter. During these outings they look for and make Cala choose future victims and lure them in. Poor Nik, poor Dallas (though there are other issues with him), poor Shane, poor anyone who is on the predatory radar of the Morgans. Let's not even get into Emily and Edmond's 'cult of Emily' (which includes many prominent community figures who are in the extremely rich and privileged Edmond's pocket) and how that ends up working out for some of the victims.

Cala is under the constant looming threat of being the one to be raped and tortured to death if she does not continue to find Emily and Edmond new victims. Cala's self preservation depends upon 'if it's not them, it's me'. Wrath's descriptions of this threat and what the victims suffer are brutal and relentless. The carnage is almost unbelievable. Emily and Edmond's lust for sex that is combined with the torture and degradation of others, and their sickeningly inventive ways of torturing and murdering people are mind blowing. Cala's only real hope of getting away is in the form of Miguel, the person who cleans up the disgusting messes made by the Morgans. That takes some interesting dips and turns too.

How this all turns out I'll let you find out as you travel through Cala's telling of events and learn what else happens. If you have already read "Rabbit Hunt" (which sits with you forever, by the way), you will see the connections between the two, and I don't want to give them away. I would definitely suggest that if you don't read "Rabbit Hunt" then immediately "Emily", at least read them within one to six months of each other in that order.

I don't know how he keeps doing it, but Wrath consistently surpasses his last work and what I've come to expect from him and does so seemingly effortlessly. I still have a lot of his former work to enjoy and I'm sure it'll be captivating for me as well. You'll see more reviews of his works from me in the future, you can count on that.

Emily 😱🤯 OUT NOW!

So I obviously screamed a little when I got the message from Wrath with this ARC, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity! And the way this was told, oh it had me invested from the very first page 👌🏻

This is told from Cala’s perspective of her relationship & life with Emily. Cala being trans unfortunately meant that she grew up being ridiculed & bullied. She was placed into a school with others like her & this is where she met Emily. She thought all her dreams had come true, she’s finally accepted for who she really is, she’s in love with this dangerous crazy woman…

But Emily is a sociopathic, sadistic force to be reckoned with. When Cala realises this she tries to back away which leads to being kidnapped by Emily and her father. At just 17 she’s forced to witness brutal murders & help bait young people into their home…

Cala’s story of everything she has witnessed at the hands of Emily & her father is one that leaves detectives open mouthed and shell shocked 🤯

This is all I’m giving you as far as an outline goes but believe me when I say this was shocking, twisted, unhinged and absolutely incredible!! From start to finish I ate every single last page up & did not want it to end.

This was absolutely brutal in the best way possible, when you think it can’t get worse…oh it 100% does 😱

Amazing!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’d give it all the stars, it kept me on my toes whilst lapping up every last bit of it! Thank you for the ARC, its out now so make sure you put this to the number one spot of October reads, you will not be disappointed, but do check the triggers, it has them all! 🤎

ARC review 🖤

In this book we follow Cala, the story is told from her POV as part of a police interview.
Cala is a Trans girl who is navigating her way
through School. She has grown up being bullied and marginalised by her family and peers until one day She Meets Emily.

Emily is outgoing and interested in getting to know Cala and openly accepts her for who she is and makes her feel special. Before long Cala falls in love with Emily. Thing is Emily is a master manipulator and sadistic Sociopath, there are warning signs right away, but Cala likes the way Emily makes her feel, So She lets it slide.

When things become too depraved Cala trys to break thing off, but this sends Emily into a rage and Cala finds herself prisoner to Emily and her father. And thats where things get really f’ed up!

This book was wild! The brutality and violence in this story is on another level and a strong stomach is absolutely required...I loved it!

The Characterisation was on point. the portrayal of the relationship between the Manipulator and the manipulated was brilliant and the Imagery and detail was palpable.

I also really liked that there were sprinkles of supernatural ambiguity in there too.

Emily is a prequel/sequel to Wrathis book 'Rabbit Hunt' so if you haven't read it why not?!) go read that too! You could absolutely read this as a stand alone but there will be a couple of minor spoilers for Rabbit Hunt

I loved everything about this book

Your next unhinged and vile character on the Extreme Horror and Splatterpunk scene has arrived, and -surprise!- her name is Emily. How Wrath James White was able to conjure up these repugnant and delirious characters will forever remain a mystery to me, but I'm sure glad he did. Saying my jaw dropped multiple times while reading this novel is no exaggeration.

I was utterly disgusted by the physical acts of sheer depravity that touch on pretty much every trigger imaginable. However, what really twisted my gut was Emily's sociopathic tendencies and narcissistic nature. She was an abuser to our narrator, which slowly unravels as the story is told through an interview with the police. We learn just how deep manipulation can infiltrate a person's self-worth when it is disguised as acceptance and unconditional love.

The way this work is crafted is bold and unapologetic. A common theme in White's writing. One would expect nothing less after reading just one of his many harrowing tales that always blend a poetic prose and unparalleled violence. His ability to address relevant topics within the political climate and his advocacy for human rights and equal representation through his words go unmatched. This book is another shining example of his many talents.

Meet Emily, a woman with a dark fascination for the morbid and an unquenchable thirst for murder and blood. She's on the run, and law enforcement is relentless in their pursuit to bring her to justice. The story unfolds through the eyes of Cala, a former survivor and ex-girlfriend of Emily, who recounts her harrowing experience to two detectives as she revisits the trauma of being kidnapped and tortured.

Honestly, I wasn't prepared for the intensity of this book. It’s steeped in a sense of dread, and there were several scenes that were tough to get through. If you're a hardcore horror fan, this is definitely a must-read. Just be sure to check the trigger warnings—there are quite a few!

This book was beyond what I expected it to be. I was thinking it was going to go in one direction and it went off the rails in another and I was here for it.
In Rabbit Hunt, also by Wrath James White, we meet Emily and we know for a fact through the course of the book she is not right and is probably one of the most disturbing characters I have ever come across.
In this book we get to learn her back story and what made her the way that she is. I love the way the story is presented in both the past and the present. We follow Cala as they describe the torture and agony Emily put them through and you learn why and how she became as twisted as she is.
If you have the stomach for this, you will not want to pass this one up at all

I was given a copy to read in exchange for a fair and honest review

4.5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

This book is rabid unhinged chaos 🩸

Cala thinks she found love when a goth girl claims her at lunch. Nope. That girl is Emily and Emily is a walking felony. Validation turns into obsession, obsession turns into rituals, and rejection turns into kidnapping with daddy’s help. Romantic if you need therapy.

The gore is nasty. The violence is cruel. The betrayal is worse than the blood. Cala trusted the one person who swore she loved her and paid for it in trauma torture and blood soaked hunts.

Emily is not morally gray she is morally feral. Possessive sadistic and violently allergic to being told no. This story does not build it free falls straight into hell.

Check your triggers or don’t.
This book exists to hurt your feelings and enjoy it 🔪🩸

Bloody and evil

A young girl with self confidence issues, is befriended by another girl and they become close. Maybe too close. But not all is a well as it seems as cala the young girl finds out. Things begin to alter and become more frantic with control. Not that cala minds. Confidence so low she likes how her friend chooses everything for her, and takes care of her. Until their relationship gets more extreme and cala decides its too much. Things go from bad to worse and so much more extreme.
A fascinating storyline and characters that you can really see doing the shocking things that that find as pleasures. Bloody, twisted with evil intent. Can they be stopped? Will they ever stop? Read to find out, in this amazing read. Recommended.

This book is dark. Not “turn off the lights and get spooky” dark.
I mean soul-staining, stomach-twisting darkness.
Emily’s story dives straight into a nightmare of kidnapping, torture, and psychological trauma so severe it almost feels impossible that anyone could endure it.

Page by page, you watch her transform into something far more complex and terrifying than a typical horror antagonist. She’s not just shaped by evil—she becomes an architect of it. There’s a chilling intelligence behind her actions that makes the story even more unsettling.
And yet, despite how brutal and disturbing it is, the book is impossible to stop reading. You keep turning pages even when part of you wants to look away.
Emily isn’t just extreme horror—it’s psychological, cruel, and deeply haunting.
Enter her world if you dare… just know you won’t leave it the same.

Cala is transgender woman who just wants to be accepted. Her parents don't understand, and she is constantly bullied at school. When Cala changes schools and meets Emily, her whole life changes.

Emily is a violently unhinged read that takes you on a wild ride from start to finish. This book is just as bloody and brutal as its predecessor, Rabbit Hunt. Wrath's writing evokes a wide range of emotions, from anger to anxiety, hopefulness to pure terror; Emily has it all.
I loved everything about this book.

This sequel to Rabbit Hunt is off the chain and so unhinged! We learn who the goth girl from RH is, and boy does Emily have issues! This is the story of Cala, a young trans woman and through her interviews with the police, we learn so much about Emily and her father. I had no idea what to expect, and it surpassed my wildest guesses! Wrath includes a whole list of trigger warnings at the beginning so nobody gets surprised. I really enjoyed the story and the ending just leaves you begging for more torture!

We meet with Cala, who is questioned by the police who are looking for Emily. Through Cala's story, we learn about the sadistic 'games' Emily and her father play.

What a ride this book was. It was disturbing, violent, gorey and all those things. It definitely triggered my boundaries, but it was written in such a compelling way I couldn't put it down.

It's a shame that I only found out after I finished it that it's a sequel (to a book called Rabbit Hunt, apparently). It definitely works as a standalone too.

usually books that kinda have a sequel either are a hit or miss. Wrath James White lays some background about one of the charcters from his other book "Rabbit Hunt" and takes it in a perspective where you really can feel for the victims and the really messed up scenarios that unfold in this. really ups the graphic scene alot more then the first one and the ending is not what I expected. definitely putting this on top of my favorite WJW reads for sure.

Reading Emily (a prequel/sequel to Rabbit Hunt) had me thinking, questioning and wondering… how quickly I would break under such brutality.

I’ve read enough of Wrath James White’s tales & can compartmentalize the vicious torture. But the prolonged torture suffered by the captured victims had my brain quivering as it grappled with the mental aspects of experiencing it again and again.

That said, I didn’t stop reading it and actually really enjoyed it!!

Maybe my mind is already broken?

Mouth dropped.

That was not how I expected things to end. Books like this one make you question me question my own well-being because I was just fully immersed in every screaming scene throughout this book.

The torment was unreal.

As the story progressed , their curiosity grew, and couldn’t help but wonder…. what else they could do…

Lots it was almost never ending …

I had hoped for a different ending because now

I am just ….
