Perfect Strangers #4

When It's Right

Rate this book
What do you do when you meet the right person at the wrong time?

Fresh from a brutal breakup, Jemima (Jem) Jacobs decides the best way to get over her broken heart is to get under someone new. Easier said than done for a socially awkward twenty-seven-year-old recovering from a toxic ex.

Then she meets Tom Evans. Funny, sweet, and effortlessly charming, he’s everything she’s ever wanted—and their sexual chemistry is off the charts. But he’s just a one-night stand, no emotions involved.

Right?

Still reeling from her broken relationship, she’s not in a place to entertain love. But as Tom helps her see her newly discovered self-worth, she finds herself falling for him anyway.

Chaotic and messy, her life spiralling, she must figure out how to put herself back together before it’s too late—or she risks losing the one thing that finally feels right.

When it’s Right is a charmingly poignant novella about love and healing after heartbreak, ideal for fans of Emily Henry’s Funny Story and Cara Bastone’s Promise Me Sunshine.

ARC review.

This surprisingly deep story explores the messy paradox of falling out of love and falling in love simultaneously through Ellie's spectacularly honest and emotional writing. As a reader, I felt an immediate and profound connection and relation to the characters. You don't just observe their journey; you live through their emotional turmoil, their tentative moments of hope, and their painful confessions. It’s a must-read for anyone who appreciates a narrative that captures the raw, confusing reality of heartbreak and hope coexisting.

I don’t know how she does it, but this series just gets better with each book!

This is definitely an insta-love on Tom’s part, and I am so here for it! Jen deserved someone who truly cared for her in so many ways that even the bare minimum felt special to her!

While the third act “breakup” was sad, seeing Jen find herself before completely falling for Tom was a true testament of how meant to be they truly were!

Out of all the series, these two had such beautiful chemistry! And as someone who left a crappy ex like Jen, finding love again is so hard but so worth it AND so easy when it’s someone right!

I also loved seeing Lucy and Oskar again! While this is a series, I love how they’re all interconnected, but if you miss a book, you don’t get any giveaways to what happened to the other love birds!

Thank you, Ellie Harrow and Book Sirens, for this advance copy. I’m anxiously awaiting what comes next!

Oh, and thank you so, so SO much for giving us that perfectly timed cameo of Aunt Thelma!

I absolutely love anything written by Ellie Harrow, and When It’s Right is no exception! These short, spicy romance novellas are my perfect kind of weekend read. The kind you can devour in a single afternoon and still think about later. I especially loved the little cameo from characters in Snow One Like You, such a fun touch for returning readers! But even if you haven’t read that one, this story stands perfectly on its own.

Jem’s character felt so relatable, especially in how she navigates life after a long-term breakup and all the messy emotions that come with it. And Tom? He’s the kind of sweet, caring, thoughtful guy we all secretly (or not so secretly) wish for. Their chemistry was so natural, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. A lovely, heartwarming read with characters you can’t help but root for! Ellie Harrow never disappoints!

I really wanted to enjoy When It’s Right, but by chapter 6, I found myself checking out. The story leans heavily into drama early on, and the one-night-stand setup had potential, but the constant comparing of exes and over-the-top emotional swings pulled me out of the romance. Instead of getting to know the characters in a natural way, it felt like everything was dialed up too fast and too loud.

I stopped reading at chapter 6 because I just couldn’t connect. The drama overshadowed the chemistry, and the back-and-forth about their past relationships became repetitive for me. If you love messy, high-intensity dynamics right from the start, this might land better for you—but I was hoping for more subtle tension and less chaos.

It was fine but a suuuuper short book. I read it pretty much in one sitting. 2 people going through a breakup and use each other as hookups to get over their past relationships but fall in love and it wasn’t the right time and eventually run into each other again and are still in love. A little spicy, I’d give it a 2/5

This was a short but really sweet story about finding oneself and being true to who you are.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily and so happily!!

This is a great read!

I actually cried while reading this!

The main character is so relatable in so many ways. We’ve all been through a crappy breakup and we’ve all watched as the other person moves on while we’re left hurting.

Ellie Harrow captures those emotions so perfectly and then gives us the sweet, healing happy ending we all wish for.

A witty, emotional, and hopeful read.

Another cracking story based on a chance meeting which changes two lives forever.
It’s a delightful read for an autumn afternoon in a cosy comfy chair.
Whilst the romance can be read as a stand alone, it was a treat to see Thelma once again. I can only hope we get more of her in future stories. I bet she was on the dance floor with me in Cinderella’s during the late 80s.
I’m looking forward to further stories from Ellie Harrow.

Thank you for letting me read your story. I genuinely enjoyed it.
