Elliot

Heureusement, Braden a l’air sympa.

Braden

Out on the Serve is book seven in the Out in College series by Lane Hayes. This one features two bi, twenty three year old volleyball players. It took me longer to fall for these two for whatever reason. But in the end, I did. The ending was wonderful.

This may contain: a man sitting on top of a sandy beach next to a volley ball net with words describing the different parts of his body

Elliot has graduated from college and is excited about starting his pro valleyball career. But first, he needs a new roommate. His friend, Sophie found someone that was looking for a place just for the summer. Elliot is one hundred percent out as bi but is also still getting over a breakup that hurt him.

Braden Marquette has also just graduated from college and is going to start grad school at UCLA in the fall. He doesn’t want to stay with his parents over the summer so is excited that Sophie found him a roommate that didn’t mind the short term stay. Braden is also out but maybe more like eighty percent. His mother is still in denial so he keeps his private life a little more private.

When these two meet, we’ll just say that there were sparks. But both keep it to themselves because messing with your roommate in that way is not usually a good thing. Once living together, though, things don’t start off as well. Braden thrives on neatness and cleanliness. Elliot does not. At all! In time, though, they learn to communicate and find a way to make it work. Through it all, though, the chemistry between them is lurking. All it takes is one kiss and there is no turning back.

They both go with the summer fling idea at first, but feelings grow fast and they both fall hard. Other people are conspiring against them in the back ground which makes things difficult. Sophie is one of them and I have to admit, I did not like her much and all of her meddling ways. Along with Elliot’s volleyball partner, Gus and Elliot’s ex, Drew. I just had to hang tough, though, because I knew these two belonged together and would figure things out.

The next book in the series will actually be Elliot’s ex, Drew’s book in Out in Winter. I can’t wait to read it.

Things I've come to expect from a Lane Hayes story:

-Lovable protagonists
-Excellent relationship development
-Steamy scenes
-Smooth pace
-AND we can now add dual POVs!

Out on the Serve had all these and more. I'm such a sucker for New Adult stories, and when you add opposites attract- I'm as happy as a pig in mud. I appreciated that Elliot and Braden communicated. Sometimes with NA, there's dreaded miscommunication that drives me nuts.

Another plus is that Hayes changed it up. I was happy that both these guys were out already. It's nice to switch it up.

My favorite part of the Out In College series is that they're comfort reads. They take me to a happy place.

My only niggle was Sophie. I wanted to drop kick her.

All in all, Out on the Serve is an excellent addition to this series.

Another Lane Hayes win. Suprise, surprise. Definitely an auto-buy author for me.

Also, can we just give a big thanks for the dual POV. For the longest time we never got dual. So thankful that has changed.

Loved both MCs.
There was great banter.
Great chemistry and steamy scenes.
No OTT drama.

My one problem with this book. Sophie. UGH. Did not like her one bit. She annoyed me.

That was such a sweet romance between two utterly delightful characters whose personalities bounced off the page.

I loved both Elliot and Braden, I loved their friends (shout outs to some of the characters from earlier books in the series which I always appreciate!) and I liked that there wasn't really any overly dramatic angsting.

There's some drama, but it's caused by external forces rather than either of the two guys, and it's all cleared up by them talking to each other - which I massively appreciate in any romance 😉

Lane is so good at writing these college age men, she gets into their heads perfectly imho and you can feel them just on the brink of full adulthood and moving into their next stage of life with confidence and a little bit of trepidation.

Falling in love on top of that is just the icing on the cake and while these guys are younger, I never feel like their love couldn't be for a lifetime.

Another cracking good addition to the series.

This was a fun, enjoyable 7th installment in this series.

Elliot is Colby's roommate from the 5th book, who the year previously broke up with his long-time girlfriend, came out as Bi, and dated a guy who broke up with him.

Braden is connected through Phoenix, who is from the 3rd book or so - his boyfriend is Max, who I believe went out with Sky who is from the 5th book - man it's hard to keep all the characters straight (ha!) in this series.

When Braden becomes Elliot's roommate over the summer after Colby had moved in with Sky, there is a quick attraction between them, and it doesn't take them long to act on it.

There is minimum angst in this, with the only real angst being Braden thinking he couldn't be with Elliot because he couldn't have that kind of life, that he more had to have the life his mother wants for him until he realizes he doesn't want that.

These two had good chemistry, there was some good sexy scenes, and I enjoyed these two together. There wasn't anything particularly amazing to make this book stand out, but overall it was enjoyable and a fun read, so I would recommend if you've been enjoying this series so far.

OUT ON THE SERVE was a great way to get you into the summer mood, beach volleyball anyone!
Braden and Elliot for me felt a bit like Felix and Oscar from The Odd Couple, and yes I realize I am dating myself here but if you've watched any of the shows you'll understand what I mean. Braden is OCD clean and tidy while Elliot is a free-spirit and a bit messy...okay he's more of a slob LOL but you know they say opposites attract and these two definitely had the chemistry.

A little bit of mixed feelings. I mostly enjoyed listening to this, but my main complaint would be that I don’t like the female voices this narrator does. This was my first time listening to him, and the male voices are all right, and he nailed some of the hot, steamy stuff most of the time, but overall, not my to go to narrator persé.

The story was a predictable, lighthearted one, about 2 boys becoming roommates and playing beach volleyball, both bisexual and falling for each other quite fast. What was supposed to be just for the summer turned into something more than both had planned.

Though some moments were fun, my overall thought is that I probably have forgotten most of it fairly quickly. No very memorable characters, in fact, I really disliked most of the females here, and the story is quite thin too. Of the kind I have read too many of in gay romance already. Luckily the 80% breakup didn’t last too long.

The audio has a bonus, “Out with toys”, which was kind of hot but like the rest of this book, not meant to take up space in my mind for too long.

Sweet. Sexy. Stirring.

I have a weakness for convivial, low angst , minimum drama ,MM, Sports Romance and Out on The Serve fit all those requirements and more .

Yep, that's right! It fills others, to me, very important boxes. Those are sexually explicit loving, snarky cheeky banter and a swooning HFN/HEA ending.

I had fun reading Elliott and Braden story. They're gorgeous and likeable heroes. I loved how their friendship/relationship developed and how honest , open and patient they were with each other.

Out on the Serve can be read as standalone . Yet , I suggest reading the other books of the series too. It's not only because they world built around it's great but because they are feel good and entertaining.

And let's face it , during the uncertain times we're living ; we all need some gaiety in our lives.

I am not surprised guys. This is just what I have come to expect from Lane Hayes and this is exactly why she is an auto-read author for me. And in this world, how lovely to get exactly what you want and what you expect.

This is a great addition to this series and really, just fit right in.

Elliott. I mean, what can I say about this guy? He is just so likable and of course, lovable. These books don’t really dig too deep but we always get the brief history and his, well, I don’t know if I’d be so likable. To be where he is and who he is coming from where he did? Makes him even more and he was already enough.

I loved Elliott for Braden. Another man with a past that wouldn’t be easy to escape and for our sweet Braden, he didn’t really, until now.

There were of course, some great cameos from the other books in the series as well as some surprises mentions from Lane’s other works. That is always so much fun.

The entire read was pretty enjoyable and really, I only had one big issue and her name was Sophie. She’d have been better off as a full on villain because what she was, I just didn’t understand. Was she just dramatic or did she truly have some ulterior motives. Honestly, I could have just done without her and her part of the story.

So yeah, another great read from Lane and a fun addition to the series. Do yourself a favor if you are interested, start at the beginning and have fun.

This was cute and sexy, like the rest of the series. I really liked Braden and Elliott together, and I loved the whole roommate with benefits thing they had going.

I’m a bit annoyed at how dumb the girls are in these books though. Not only Sophie here, who was completely crazy, but also Anna who kept going along with Sophie’s plans, yet was supposedly Elliot’s friend. Who agrees to go on a date with her ex’s roommate? Ugh.

I love the friends-to-lovers trope. Elliot and Braden were each others opposites too. Loved that.

”Appreciating each other’s differences made us stronger, and in many ways, it made us better people. I’d like to think I was kinder to myself now, more open and willing to try new things and see other points of view.
I liked who I was when I was with Elliot. And I loved who we’d become together. “

Wah, wah.

I don't know, you guys. This just felt really strange to me. The pacing seemed off, the characters didn't seem like a great fit for me (or for each other), and the side character drama llama is SO not my jam.

I think I may have to give up this series.

As a couple these two were my favorite that I have read so far from this series. Braden and Elliot 🥰

But fuck Sophie… she is the literal worst. I don’t get why these two guys were friends with her. Hahaha had to take some stars off for that little bit of unnecessary drama that dumbass created (as you can tell I might have strong feeling about her) hahah

Also Braden’s mom kinda sucked lol.

But besides those two women it was good! A volleyball romance was new and I loved it haha!

Elliot and Braden couldn't be more different if they tried. Where Elliot was messy and easygoing, Braden was borderline OCD and a bit high-strung, however, somehow they manage to balance each other after becoming roommates for the summer. They're both lusting after the other and finally give in to their attraction, but their arrangement is as temporary as their living arrangements, or can it turn into more?

The chemistry between Elliot and Braden was off the charts and they were uber hot together, *fans self* and while yes, there's a lot of sexy times in this book (and the super hot short accompanying story), these guys talk a lot and spend time together doing other things and spending time with their friends.

It was great catching up with some of the guys from previous books, although I could have done without Sophie's drama and Gus, Elliot's volleyball partner. I'm quite intrigued about Drew, though.

Michael Dean's narration is as amazing as ever. He's just so consistently awesome in every single book I've listened him perform, and Out on the Serve is not the exception. He captured Elliot's quirkiness and Braden's more serious nature perfectly, making them come to life for me.

Overall, a fantastic book with an outstanding narration, what's not to love? Definitely a book you can't miss out on!

Fun, sweet, and sexy - exactly what I’ve come to expect from this series! Also, Michael Dean once again did an excellent job with the audiobook narration.

When Elliot and Braden become roommates on short notice, neither is entirely sure what to expect. It doesn’t take long for them to clash a bit, as Elliot’s a bit of a messy person and Braden likes every neat and orderly.

Despite that, they hit it off and become friends pretty quickly. They find it easy to connect and have fun together.

The only potential complication - the undeniable underlying sexual tension.

And boy was that some good tension! Even better was the physical chemistry once Braden and Elliot got hot and dirty together.

I really liked that Braden, so buttoned-up in other parts of his life, really let loose with Elliot. Trust is key to good sex!

However, both men are pretty much on the same page that there’ll be an end date to the summer fling.

But then feelings get involved.

It was very cute how “coupley” Elliot and Braden became without realizing it. Whether they were playing together, spending time with mutual friends, or just hanging out, the two just clicked.

I would have liked some more depth to the characters. Both MCs have backstories that could have been explored further, and I don’t think it would necessarily have muddied the “low angst vibe” of the book.

The big stumbling block in the relationship - aside from the self-imposed summer fling deadline - did have to do with Braden’s backstory, so that provided some insight.

But I was glad to see that the angst didn’t last long! Also extra bonus points for cute grand gestures!

The only slight annoyance - I couldn’t take the whole social media angle seriously. I rarely find it believable as a plot device.

Regardless, this was a very easy and enjoyable read. Recommended if you’re looking for something sweet and sexy!

Two words: Volleyball hotties!! 😍🥰

This was actually pretty good, I was not expecting it! The story was as simple as the blurb says, but it was sweetly written with two lovely main characters.

I loved that one of them had a little bit of OCD, and the other was a total disaster, so they clashed with a bit (or a lot) of sexual tension because of it, it was very entertaining. Another aspect that I enjoyed was that they didn't get everything they wanted in their work environments, but they got what they needed. It made everything realistic and I'm always thankful for that.

The development was good, the drama was pretty low and maybe the writing could have been more at the end, but overall it's a lovely read. 🥰💜

Out on the Serve, the seventh book in Lane Hayes' Out in College series, is another awesome college sports romance.

This time we have volleyball players Elliott and Braden, who are new roommates. Their connection is intense, leading to some hot hook ups. But, they've agreed to just that, hook ups with no commitment. That always works out well, right?

The differences in the two men set up for some good entertainment. One wants order and everything in it's place. The other is a go with the flow kind of guy. It makes for some fun scenes.

Braden's a young man who's always strived to please, always trying to be perfect. My heart hurts for his need to please. His life is full of family issues and family pressure, creating a truly sympathetic character.

This is a story with great character growth, as one finds their purpose. It's a story of knowing people come and go from our lives, serving a valuable purpose at the time. I truly love that aspect of the storyline.

Their story includes some exes and meddling friends. This just ups the emotional factor.

The writing style is classic Lane Hayes. Everything flows well, there's good dialogue, and she takes her men on a wonderful journey. She adds plenty of humor into this steamy read. Overall, she has yet to disappoint me.

Out on the Serve is a delight tale of grabbing onto love. Lane Hayes has created another riveting romance, this time focusing on learning to admit what one wants and needs, instead of what they are told they need. It's awesome.

This was such a fun, hot, sweet and fast paced read. I so needed this type of story! This series has had some really great books but this one was probably my favorite. I just loved the friends to lovers roommates situation. Elliot was funny and he took chances and owned who he is and what he wants. Braden was sweet and a bit neurotic and I loved the odd couple type of situation where Elliot was messy and Braden was not.

The attraction between Elliot and Braden was immediate and they both tried to fight it since this is a temporary roommate arrangement but they just cannot fight their feelings and they start with some hot and heavy kissing. The sex was hot but also had emotion behind it, you could tell there was more building. Everything clicked in this one for me.

The only niggle I had was Sophie, she could’ve gotten very annoying but she wasn’t involved too much and that was fine by me because she could’ve ruined this story. We get to see characters from other stories too which is always fun! This was a great summer read!

I truly love this series and this book is a great addition to it. I live for a sports romance!

Braden and Elliot are both volleyball players and that is pretty much where their similarities end. They have complete opposite personalities which I found so endearing. Braden, the OCD,everything in its place and Elliot the free spirit. Their chemistry was HOT! Their communication skills ,hot as well!
I’m so happy they found each other. The love and care they showed was amazing and sweet.

AND can I say I’m SO glad Sophie was such an incompetent villain. Hopefully, she gets her comeuppance soon.

This is definitely on my re-read list.
The HEA was just what I wanted as well. ALSO..Crossovers galore in here and I LOVED it!

Another awesome addition to the Out in College series! This was an easy, sweet, uncomplicated read. I loved Elliot and Braden, both as individuals and as a couple. Elliot was such a fun-loving, laid back, easy-going guy, the complete opposite of Braden, who was more clean cut, with a penchant for having things neat and orderly. I loved the explosiveness of their attraction- the smoking hot chemistry, but there was also this sweetness between them that was just so endearing.
I liked that there wasn't a lot of angst and drama between them, just some irritating meddling from a well-meaning(???) friend. Braden had some minor issues he had to work through, but luckily it didn't take him long to do.
Out on the Serve was just an all around smiley, feel good read that I zipped right through.

I was in the mood for something light and fun and it was delivered!

The 7th installment in the series was a great read with a lot of chemistry and some great banter.

Bradon needs a place to live over the summer and Elliot has a spare room. The attraction between those two is instant and very strong. There was some denial at first, both of them fighting the insane chemistry but failing at some point. They were good for each other.

While I particularly love my romance book to be angsty, I really enjoyed the lightness in this book. It was sexy and it was fun, especially the banter and the way their relationship was built from friends to lovers.

A really really enjoyable book to read!

Roommates to Lovers!!!

I love a good friends to lovers read and this did not disappoint. Braden and Elliot start as roommates, then become friends and then more. It was filled with the fabulous dialogue and witty banter that you know you'll get when reading a Lane Hayes book. I loved the development of their relationship, it was very natural and the connection between them was great. Both Elliot and Braden had some growing up and soul searching to do and were able to find what they both needed in each other along the way! Another great addition to this series!
