Better than the first book? Oh yes, most definitely. At this rate, book three could hit five stars.

I decided to go with the audiobook again, and soon realised I was enjoying the story a lot more this time around.

The world and its characters were fleshed out better, there was more adventuring to be had, and, even though I'm not a big fan of time loops, I had a great time with the plot.

The pacing was a bit slower here than in book one, but I didn't mind, because we got so much relationship development to make up for it. I didn't even care about the miscommunication aspect, which just shows how into the story I was, because it normally bugs the hell out of me.

Gwen and Isobelle were so cute, I loved seeing them interacting with each other, and I'm so seated for whatever quest they decide to go on next.

AHHH I AM SO HAPPY I COULD FINALLY READ MORE ABOUT GWEN AND ISOBELLES ADVENTURES!!!! i love them so much😭😭🫶🏻 i do think the first book is so much stronger plot-wise and in general a better pace. the relationship couldn't be developed much more, putting the ending aside because there was just sometimes way too sad and depressing things happening and i just wanted happiness for both of them!!!! it was truly a wild ride and so much was going on but i won't go into detail, you'll have to read for yourself!! HAVING THE CONFIRMATION THAT THERE WILL BE COMING A THIRD BOOK IN THIS SERIES IS MY HIGHLIGHT, CANNOT WAIT FOR IT!!😌👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

This was such a ridiculous amount of fun. I caught myself giggling to myself on multiple occasions. I mean, doomscrolling through actual scrolls? Genius. I'm already looking forward to seeing where Gwen and Isobelle's adventures take them next.

I haven't enjoyed this one as much as the first one, because I felt we were moving around the same parts/topics/moments without really moving the story forward... The characters were in a loop with the sea monster and so were we with the story.
But I liked the revelations we got towards the ending and now I need to know more, you know?

I read Lady’s Knight this time last year and absolutely loved it! I was very lucky to be sent its sequel One Knight Stand earlier this month from Allen & Unwin.

It’s safe to say if you loved the first book, you’ll love this one too! Gwen and Isobelle are back on another quest, this time involving a giant sea monster, mysterious curses, and of course lots of sapphic yearning 💘

One Knight Stand had the same beloved fourth-wall-breaking narrator, but a bit of a slower pace in comparison to the first book. There was miscommunication and inner turmoil, and our gals could have cleared up a lot of the middle of this book with a good ol fashioned conversation. But being vulnerable is hard when there’s so much on the line and you’ve got a beast to slay 🐙😅

Despite the communication issues, I enjoyed the plot! I’d recommend this series for anyone after a YA, sapphic, medieval read. The romance is sweet and the plot easy to follow. If you enjoyed Tress of the Emerald Sea, My Lady Jane and A Knights Tale, then I think you’d also enjoy this series!

There's something very special about Kaufman and Spooner's humour in this series. Like, the series is delightful as it is. But there's just something about the jokes and the nods to other fantasy stories (Lord of the Rings, Discworld and The Princess Bride, to name a few) that just hits exactly right for me. I love the protagonists, and the narrator breaking into the story periodically is fun. I like the way it occasionally jumps back and forth in time, and all in all, it's just one hell of a good time. Would read another dozen books in this world tbh.

one knight stand picks up exactly where book 1 - lady’s knight left off ⚔️🌊✨ this time the fmcs gwen and isobelle head to a seaside town to deal with a mysterious sea monster, and it was fun getting to go on another adventure with them!!! 🥰🥰

overall the vibe of this sequel is still very the same, which i really appreciated 💛 however i do think i enjoyed book 1 more 🥹
one of my favorite things (and such a charming part!!!) about the first book was that the narrator constantly breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the reader in a very witty, modern, humorous way 😂📖 that storytelling style is still here in this sequel ofc, but much less frequently, and i think i would preferred if it is more present 🥹💕

i also found the mystery and villain a little predictable this time 🫣 i think the truth reveal didn’t really surprise me at all as i predicted the villan quite early on, so it didn’t have quite the same impact as i was hoping for 😭💕

another thing i missed was all the fun girly drama from book 1 😭😭💅✨ i think there is much less of that in this sequel.
on the other hand, i did like that we got to explore gwen and isobelle’s relationship more deeply, and i really enjoyed seeing how their relationship continues to grow (i really love them as a couple!! they are so cute together 😭♥️)

overall, this was still a fun and entertaining read 🌊⚔️💕. i think my slight disappointment mostly comes from how much i loved the first book rather than anything that this sequel did wrong 🥹
the ending definitely feels like it’s setting up another adventure, and i’ll happily be picking up book 3 if it comes out!!!! ✨

This book was a slight disappointment to me. I mostly struggled with it because it had a very different feel than the first book, which was very silly and fun. This one didn't feel as silly, it was surprisingly sad and depressing. There was also a lot of miscommunication that just felt frustrating. The twist was very predictable (though I recognize it is a YA story and I'm not the target audience) and honestly a bit frustrating as well. I think the end is setting up more sequels possibly, but I think I am done with this series.

Older teenager and up, sapphic but never over the top, humorous sometimes almost over the top but always entertaining, fantasy quest. (Wow, what a sentence.)

This is book two. Book one brief synopsis. They went, they saw, the Knight killed a dragon, the Princess has been left in the care of an evil Lord. I hadn’t read book one, but it is now on my TBR list.

Book two synopsis: the knight is sent, along with the Princess to kill a monster. (There’s definitely a killing series theme, I think). Well, as the Princess likes/loves the Knight she’s not letting her go on her own. The knight has PDTSD. That is post dragon romantic- no sorry that’s not it - post dragon traumatic stress disorder. But the romantic maybes between the two are causing stress as well. Lots of humorous shenanigans occurs, along with much monster killing because a Knight doesn’t leave a job half done. Adventure, hurt, making up, and some secrets are revealed.

Yeah, that’s it. Along with a very worthwhile, entertaining story, with many more worthwhile and entertaining words than my synopsis; and at least one more book in the series to be published. That is also now on my TBR list.

This book definitely exceeded my expectations, and honestly i really really enjoyed every part of the story.

It had messiness, it had honest and real characters who both thought they were protecting each other but were only making things worse, it had raw emotions and brutal revelations that forced them to face each other. Obviously, a lot of this followed very traditional storytelling paths, and obviously there was tension, lies, deception and then the ultimate blow up of the truth in a very dramatic fashion.

The relationship between Isobelle and Gwen felt more real this time round. It didnt feel as fake or forced as it did in the last book. I really appreciated that they felt like two normal (as normal as a Lady Knight and a witch who doesn't know shes a witch can be) girls who loved each other but were too scared and afraid of the reality of that to actually do anything about it.

Im excited to see what the next book will have in store for us readers.

And off i go to find my next sapphic slow burn 🔥

I enjoyed this one more than book 1. I had a fun time and love the structure and narration of this story. I just wish we had more of the side characters and found family in this story. I loved watching Gwen conquer her fears and Isobel and their relationship grow organically while overcoming obstacles.
