Lady's Knight #2

One Knight Stand

Rate this book
Saddle up your dragons, the ladies are going on tour! The sapphic love story continues in the sequel to joyful medieval romp LADY’S KNIGHT from NYT bestselling duo, Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner. Perfect for fans of Gwen and Art are Not in Love and My Lady Jane.

Dearest reader… let me catch you up.

Gwen, our lady knight.

Isobelle, our knight’s lady.

They fight monsters, and they’re in love. Well, they fought one monster, once. And while they are in love, they haven’tdiscussed that fact with each other, and neither wants to be the first to bring it up. This is going to be fine.

This story includes:

Seaside mysteries
Brooding redemption arcs
A cursed town
A sea monster
Medieval tourist attractions
An evil sorceress
A crumbling dark tower
Moonlit magical rituals

(Ignore all the tentacles, everything is definitely fine…)

AHHH I AM SO HAPPY I COULD FINALLY READ MORE ABOUT GWEN AND ISOBELLES ADVENTURES!!!! i love them so much😭😭🫶🏻 i do think the first book is so much stronger plot-wise and in general a better pace. the relationship couldn't be developed much more, putting the ending aside because there was just sometimes way too sad and depressing things happening and i just wanted happiness for both of them!!!! it was truly a wild ride and so much was going on but i won't go into detail, you'll have to read for yourself!! HAVING THE CONFIRMATION THAT THERE WILL BE COMING A THIRD BOOK IN THIS SERIES IS MY HIGHLIGHT, CANNOT WAIT FOR IT!!😌👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

I haven't enjoyed this one as much as the first one, because I felt we were moving around the same parts/topics/moments without really moving the story forward... The characters were in a loop with the sea monster and so were we with the story.
But I liked the revelations we got towards the ending and now I need to know more, you know?

About how it is worth being vulnerable to our loved ones, lest fear turns to anger, and anger to grief, all wrapped up in a no less delightful story with witches, sea monsters, and of course, lesbians who yearn.

Older teenager and up, sapphic but never over the top, humorous sometimes almost over the top but always entertaining, fantasy quest. (Wow, what a sentence.)

This is book two. Book one brief synopsis. They went, they saw, the Knight killed a dragon, the Princess has been left in the care of an evil Lord. I hadn’t read book one, but it is now on my TBR list.

Book two synopsis: the knight is sent, along with the Princess to kill a monster. (There’s definitely a killing series theme, I think). Well, as the Princess likes/loves the Knight she’s not letting her go on her own. The knight has PDTSD. That is post dragon romantic- no sorry that’s not it - post dragon traumatic stress disorder. But the romantic maybes between the two are causing stress as well. Lots of humorous shenanigans occurs, along with much monster killing because a Knight doesn’t leave a job half done. Adventure, hurt, making up, and some secrets are revealed.

Yeah, that’s it. Along with a very worthwhile, entertaining story, with many more worthwhile and entertaining words than my synopsis; and at least one more book in the series to be published. That is also now on my TBR list.

Thank you to Farshore and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up.

I enjoyed this one more than book 1. I had a fun time and love the structure and narration of this story. I just wish we had more of the side characters and found family in this story. I loved watching Gwen conquer her fears and Isobel and their relationship grow organically while overcoming obstacles.

I loved Lady's Knight so was incredibly excited to read it's sequel and let me tell you, it did not disappoint in the slightest. I loved being back with these characters and seeing what trouble Gwen and Isobelle found themselves in. I absolutely love their chemistry and the pure pining that happens in this one.

Gwen and Isobelle are fantastic characters who continue to grow and develop in this book. Gwen is still feeling the aftermath of her battle from the first book and trying to keep it hidden from Isobelle as she doesn't want her to think less of her, while Isobelle knows Gwen is hiding something from her but is also keeping her own secrets.

I loved the whole premise of this book and loved seeing side characters from the first book (mostly the narrator, who is hands down my fave). I cannot wait to see where their next adventure takes them, especially after the reveals in this one!

I can’t argue with how much I love these characters and the first book was one of my favourites of last year and I launched into this one with anticipated glee!

I really did love it but it didn’t quite hold the same charm as the first for me. I listened to the audiobook which was just as fab as the last one (yay for the same narrators and for consistency). I listened to huge chunks at a time and sometimes I couldn’t really tell how the plot had advanced. It was the cosy fantasy I was looking for but was missing the *chefs kiss* of something that I can’t quite put my finger on. I think I just loved the establishment of the first plot and it was a fav trope for me.

It was still fab tho and I’m so glad I read it, it makes me want to go back to the first and reread it all over again. I can’t wait for the next one!

Like book one, this was such a fun time! Minus all the fear and peril... But we can overlook that 😂
The strained relationship was hard to get through, with both Gwen and Isabelle keeping secrets from one another, but that just shows how good the writing is that I became so invested in the girls lives. I love Gwen's dry sense of humour and how easily it goes over Isabelle's head 🤭
These two were made for each other and I cannot wait for book 3, I love them so much!!! 🩷🩷🩷🩷
Special shout out to Helen Keeley and Barbara Rosenblat for their absolutely amazing narrating, I felt so immersed in the story because of them 🥰

Thank you to Allen & Unwin for sending me a copy. All thoughts are my own.

This tale was just as fun and adventurous as the last, and I loved being back with these characters, seeing them on another journey full of twists, turns, and absurd humour.

I did, however, think this book was maybe a little long and repetitive in the middle. I think if this book had a heavier edit and cut out some of the nothingness of the middle, it would be a stronger book. As it stands, I loved the beginning and the end and the overall journey, it just wasn’t as tight as the first for me.

6⭐ This is the perfect blend of silly puns, dramatic action, fantastical magic, and sapphic true love between a hero and her lady. We see them working on another mystery, solving this new problem as well as dealing with old problems and mysteries after having wrapped up the events of the first book. I particularly loved the radiance each of our beloved character; they communicate, fight, forgive and love so well. This was a dream to read.

just as good or better than the first

I rarely find a book this witty and exciting, to find one with such an incredible sapphic romance and compelling plot is almost unbelievable. I’ll read anything from these authors at this point because I know it will be good, but this may just be my new favorite series. I can’t wait to see what else our girls get into ❤️

Even though I saw pretty much most of the story beats coming, I kinda don’t care that i found it predictable. it was fun and i loved the seaside town mystery with the sea monster. i hope they write another one. i will definitely be rereading lady’s knight and this one at some point. also love the horses. princess buttercup and achilles are like their own characters

this managed to be even better than the first book, which i definitely did not expect. isobelle’s development was also so unexpected and amazing, and once again i was just so impressed by how well the relationship is written, as someone who is constantly trying and failing to find good lesbian romance.

I wanted to love this but…

Unlike the first book, which is full of humor and hope, this one is full of emotional whiplash and crushing pain. Just a massive swirlie of grim sadness and fear. It redeems itself eventually but it was stressful to read from the constant self flagellation. I hope book three brings the heart back.

3.5 stars, rounded up. I'm so in love with the characters themselves but sometimes the writing did cringe me out. It was also a tad predictable. But I did have a wonderful time!! May the lady knight trend endure forever 🗡️
