When Princess Ivory discovers her father was murdered, she must save seven cursed kingdoms before an evil queen destroys them all. But the huntsman sent to stop her is hiding a deadly secret: he's cursed to die from loving her.

Hunter has served Queen Seraphina for years, bound by magic he cannot break. Ordered to eliminate the one princess who threatens the queen's power, he expects a simple mission. Instead, he finds a woman whose purification magic could save the world...and whose love will literally kill him.

Every stolen kiss brings Hunter closer to death. Every kingdom they cleanse together strengthens both the curse and their bond. From ice palaces to storm-tossed seas, Ivory and Hunter race through seven fairy tale realms, saving cursed kings while fighting a love that grows stronger with each heartbeat.

But Queen Seraphina has spent years perfecting her revenge. And she's designed Hunter's curse with one final cruelty—the deeper he loves, the more agonizing his death becomes.

Some fairy tales end with true love's kiss. This one begins with it.

Rachel Avery crafts a story that hits you in the feels! this Snow White retelling made me laugh, cry, and feel deep down in my soul. it is a slow burn with a story that brings plot twists and turns you don’t see coming! "You are stronger than you know, daughter. Trust in that strength when the darkness comes.”

Retelling a story like Snow White is risky!!! You have to keep enough of the original to make it feel familiar, while still making it fresh, creative, and entirely your own.
The author NAILED it. I devoured this book and ended up loving it so much more than I ever could’ve imagined!! It’s pure genius.

Rachel Avery did not come to play! She brought every single character to life, taking the essence of the original and transforming it into something fresh, layered, and unforgettable. It feels both familiar and completely new. Some characters you’ll fall in love with, and others you’ll just love to hate.

I adored all the clever twists woven into this. like the seven kingdoms instead of the seven dwarfs. There were moments that echoed other classic tales which was such a clever touch. I got chills, forgot to breathe, and even found myself crying at one point without realizing it 😭 lots of crying.

This book is an emotional journey of love, loss, self-discovery, and hope. It’s filled with mystery, action, darkness, purity, and power. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

This one is a must read. 🖤 added to my favorite of all time list 😭😍

Thank you for my ARC! I'm leaving this review voluntarily

I feel extremely fortunate to have been an ARC reader for this book. Because of that, I really wanted to take some time to digest it all before I rated and reviewed. The following review is 100% voluntary and a true representation of my feelings of this story.

Throughout the past week, I found myself going back into the story and remembering bits of dialogue or scenes that my heart is holding on to. That's how I know for sure... this is a 5-star read.

I didn't know what to expect when I started, this being my first Rachel Avery book, but WOW was I blown away. The nods to the classic Snow White story brought me joy and nostalgia. And even though I assumed (hoped, prayed) the ending, I definitely did not know how it was going to get there.

I loved this story. Everything about it. I can't wait to dive deeper into the Seven Cursed Kingdoms - and to read more from Rachel Avery!

I’m still in awe of this story. I knew retelling a classic like Snow White was risky — there’s such a delicate balance between honoring the familiar and crafting something fresh and unforgettable. But Rachel Avery NAILED it. I devoured this book and have found myself returning to scenes and bits of dialogue that my heart refuses to let go of. That’s how I truly know this is a 5-star read.

This being my first book by Rachel Avery, I didn’t know what to expect… but WOW did it blow me away. The nostalgia of the original tale is woven in so cleverly — yet the world of Seven Cursed Kingdoms feels entirely new. I loved the brilliant twist of the seven kingdoms in place of the seven dwarfs, and the way each character comes to life with such emotional depth. Some you’ll fall in love with instantly, and others you’ll love to hate.

There were moments that gave me chills, moments I forgot to breathe, and yes… even moments I cried without realizing it. It’s an emotional journey of love and loss, darkness and hope, identity and power. Even though I tried to predict where it was going, I never quite knew how we’d get to the end — and that kept me hooked on every page.

This story is pure magic, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into this world and see what the rest of the series has in store. A true favorite. 🖤📚

This was such a great retelling of Snowwhite. I thought the magic and curses were so original and great add to the story.

The FMC Ivory was the princess who made major character development throughout the book. Loved her magical talents.

The MMC Hunter. What's is not to love about him. He was perfect! The lion who fell in love with the lamb. He made me cry in some parts.

The part of the seven dwarfs, that turned into this story in seven cursed kings and there kindoms was also such a good idea.

So why do I rate it 4 stars? Some parts of the book were to slow for my liking. For me it quickend after around 50% in. And also there were parts that were repetitive. Like the same thing was said multiple times in the same chapter/or few pages and I was thinking to myself yes I get it already. The last thing were the chapter sizes. I personally prefere smaller chapters especially in big books like this. Some of the chapters were massive.

So overall I liked the book, loved the original retelling, magic, curses and characters, and would recommend it, but be prepared that the story is slower paced.

I’m always iffy with retellings because the originals have a special place in my heart but this one was soooo good. Yes, it’s a retelling but it didn’t take anything away from the original at all. It was it’s own story and written so impeccably well.
The world building and character development were written so well that it was easy to follow without sitting there wondering what the heck you were reading. Rachel does a great job at giving each character their own personality and allows you to differeniate which ones you fall in love with and which ones you clearly do not like through the story.
The connection of Ivory and Hunter was EVERYTHING. I think I found a new book boyfriend for sure. Their story wasn’t overly thrown in your face which was a nice change in pace from a lot of fantasy books and I loved that there was a slow burn feel.
All in all I absolutely loved everything about this one.

Mirror of Hearts is a fantasy Snow White retelling with a shared universe with other well known fairy tales. It is the first in it's series, The Cursed Kings Fairy Tales, and is a fun introduction to the series, setting up the world building and introducing the reader to characters who will later have their own stories. Mirror of Hearts follows the quest of Ivory, Princess of Valenstone, and Hunter - the woodsman, working to undo the work of the Evil Queen, while cursed themselves, unable to love without death.

"Then I'll die loving you instead of living without you."

The writing style was easy to read and not taxing. The pacing wasn't slow slow, but it was repetitive to the point that I felt I was on a quest just to get through it. And when you think the repetitive element has ended, it just keeps going into the final chapters, not to any extreme degree, but noticeable if the repetition is taking a toll on you, which for me, it was. Otherwise, I would say the pacing is somewhat medium to fast, there's a lot to get done and only 400 pages to do it in.

The characters, Ivory and Hunter, are interesting, and I can see them being a fan favorite for some readers. Fans of Snow White will appreciate how Ivory is written, pure and innocent, and others might find a book boyfriend in Hunter, morally greyish and protective. I think Hunter has the most growth between the two, with Ivory being a little bit more stagnant in her growth, being relatively the same at the end of the book. Even Hunters growth isn't too significant. I won't add either to my shelf of favorite characters, and they did not leave a memorable impression on me, but I am intrigued to read Dorian and Sebastian's stories. I hope they have a bit more depth to them.

Mirror of Hearts has a decent amount of world building as the characters traverse all over the kingdoms and we learn about different kingdoms, their traits, and their magic. However, for the start of a fantasy series, it was kind of lacking as well. I think it's missing a map at the beginning of the book, but according to the writing, the kingdoms aren't too far apart, with the characters able to walk on foot, while exhausted, from one kingdom to another in a matter of a few days, or in a matter of hours on horseback.

"I was beginning to think that some death warrants might be worth signing."

While I won't categorize this as a favorite, there was a lot I enjoyed about the story and the characters. I love an impossible romance that the characters have to overcome, which is what attracted me to this book. Whether they do or not doesn't influence my rating. The magic, the good and the bad, were intriguing and were developed with love by Avery. It's a promising start to the series that hopefully develops with the same love put into this book.

However, while there was a lot of good, there was also a lot of little things that just added up for me. They weren't necessarily bad, and most readers will probably gloss over or not care for them. First, the pacing was decent, but this book could of easily justified being significantly longer to put more attention and detail in the story. Instead, it felt rushed just to move on to the next plot point. Secondly, you can tell by the writing, the romance aspect was done with care, but it still felt second to the quest - which I just pointed out was suffering from lack of detail and rushed. Both points contributed to small errors and inconsistencies that while aren't significant, they were influencing me in small increments to point I wasn't as excited for the story, which is where I take the half point off. They don't hurt the plot in any way, it's more careless mistakes that should of been caught, and hopefully are in the final manuscript. I could probably keep going, but I also recognize that I'm being influenced by how annoyed I got with all the repetition and errors. (Somewhat spoilery examples,

"Tell me to stop. Tell me to walk away before we both get hurt. Because if you don't, I'm going to kiss you, and everything changes after that."

While the rating is on the lower end, I do still recommend this story for people who enjoy fairytale retellings or Snow White, bodyguard romances, forbidden romances, and slow burn. I personally won't be adding it to my favorites shelf, but I can be nitpicky. I can see this being others favorites, especially those who love a more light hearted journey and don't want to read anything with too much depth.

"You're a beautiful, impossible fool."

Mirror of Hearts is a unique and magical Snow White retelling that becomes something much bigger than a single fairytale. Following Ivory and Hunter as they journey through the seven cursed kingdoms, this story blends adventure, mystery, romance, and rich worldbuilding into a fast-moving, emotionally charged tale.

I Loved how Ivory isn’t a passive princess with her purifying magic, grief of losing her father, and her determination to help others regardless of the risk to herself makes her a strong and compelling heroine.

The “hunter sent to kill her” trope becomes so much deeper in this book as we watch Hunter struggle with the curse that will kill him for loving someone while he actively chooses to love Ivory.

Each cursed kingdom feels distinct and imaginative with an interesting twist on different fairytales, adding stakes and momentum as the pair travels.

Mirror of Hearts is an enchanting start to the Cursed Kings Fairy Tales series, full of magic, curses, danger, and the kind of romance that sneaks up on you. If you enjoy fairytale retellings, triumph over evil, found family, and slow-burn “we’re doomed but I love you anyway” relationships, this book will is a must I’m excited to see where the series goes next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

🌹🖤 Mirror of Hearts ARC Review 🖤🌹

Thank you so much to Rachel Avery for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Mirror of Hearts is a fantasy romance and book one in the Cursed Kings Fairy Tales series. After escaping the clutches of the murderous Queen, Princess Ivory finds herself running from a deadly assassin. But when they form an unexpected attraction to each other, will they choose to save the kingdoms or their lives?

This was a fun fairytale read! Ivory was an interesting character and I enjoyed her growth in this story. Hunter was a great match for her and I liked their journey in this book. I enjoyed the integration of different fairytale lore into the magic and world building of this book, it kept things interesting throughout the read

Overall this was a fun 5 star read! I enjoyed the characters and this story! I’m excited to read more in this world in the future! This book does have some darker elements, so please check triggers if you’re sensitive. This book was a bit of a slow burn but had some spicy moments once it got there, so two flames for spice

If you’re a fan of fairytale retellings with strong characters, interesting lore and unique world building, then absolutely pick this one up.

I had the greatest honor of reading this book in trade for an honest review.
Man oh man this book was AMAZING! It is a Snow White retelling and honestly I liked more than the traditional story. To me there was so much more feeling put into this, you can tell that Rachel really poured her heart and soul into this story and that was just one reason why I loved it so much. I was in the biggest slump with fantasy/romantasy books so I was skeptical about it but I am so glad I gave it a chance. Rachel has pulled me out of my slump with this and I am so thankful for it.
We follow Princess Ivory in this retelling of Snow White and she is legit a magical princess, she has purification powers which is so cool and then there’s her stepmother Serephina.... she is the evil stepmother figure, she does some big bad things, Ivory rebels against her and runs off to save 7 kingdoms. Serephina hated that so she brought in her huntsman Hunter to go after Ivory and bring her home. I want to say so much more but I don’t want to spoil anything. I loved that instead of the 7 dwarves it was 7 kingdoms and I loved the overall storyline and characters. I grew attached to Ivory and Hunter which getting attached to him broke me it was still worth it.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THIS ONE

This follows the story of Ivory, who is our Snow White, and Hunter, who (aptly named) is the huntsman in this retelling. It’s a tale full of magic, romance, and most importantly, a happily ever after!

The romance is a slow burn, at it is 100% chef’s kiss. It’s the perfect amount of pining and tension, and I was here for every second of it. There were a ton of subtle details that I caught regarding other fairy tales, and definitely some clues about what might be coming in the series. The spindle from sleeping beauty being a music box? Brilliant!

There are seven kingdoms to cleanse, and while somewhat episodic, this didn’t feel repetitive due to the emotional beats of the romance, even though structurally it’s similar. But again, seven dwarfs = seven cursed kings? Well thought out.

Honestly, there were elements to this book that were actually quite literary, which as a non-critical reader I couldn’t help but still pick up on. The themes of mirrored sacrifice, found family, the true nature of love…all pulled together well.

5/5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️1/5 a couple of on page scenes but non-descriptive, like ACOTAR #1.

Holy.hell.

That was…everything. I haven’t had an emotional response to a book like this in a very long time.

First off, Ivory. She’s just…likable. She’s strong, yet admits her weaknesses. She’s stubborn, but takes advice and listens. She’s noble…but selfish in her love for Hunter. It’s been a hot minute since I haven’t wanted to murder every single FMC I’ve read. Ivory was great.

And then…there was Hunter. Sigh. He was perfect. Flawed, intense, obsessed…the list goes on and on. I really felt his love for Ivory, understood why he was drawn to her. A lot of romance books the author just tells us they love/like each other, but through his POV I could see exactly why he was drawn to her, the parallels she represented and the ways he wished he could have been more like her.

And then…the plot. Each kingdom visit was unique, each purification unique. I can’t wait to read more about the kings, especially Archer. I think he’ll be my favorite.

Overall, this is a six star read for me. Mad I can only give it five 🤣

I received this as an arc and I’m damn glad I did. I’ll be buying all of Rachel’s books. She’s made me a fan 4 life.

A Heartfelt Journey Through Love, Loss, and Self-Discovery
Mirror of Hearts is an emotional rollercoaster that tugs at your heartstrings from the very first page. Rachel Avery has a remarkable ability to create characters that feel real, flawed, and deeply relatable. The story beautifully explores themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth, all while keeping the reader engaged with twists that are both surprising and satisfying.
What I loved most was how Avery navigates the complexities of relationships—the push and pull, the mistakes, and the redemptive moments that make love so human. The writing is tender, vivid, and full of emotion, making it easy to get lost in the world she’s created.
This book isn’t just a romance; it’s a journey of the heart that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. I highly recommend Mirror of Hearts to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with depth, emotion, and characters you’ll fall in love with.

I received this as an ARC copy and this is my honest review.

I saw this in one of my Facebook arc groups, and I'm so glad I signed up! This book is hands-down beautiful. The care, thought and love that was put into this book is amazing.

I've received a lot of arcs over the last year, and to be honest, I don't review a lot of them because they are less than three stars. In the days of self-publishing, there are some real...stinkers out there.

But this, this is traditional publishing quality. I was incredibly surprised at the editing and strength of the prose. It was a nearly flawless manuscript, and I loved every minute of it.

It's a soft, yet intensely emotional snow white retelling that made me feel all the feelings. Rachel Avery played with my emotions beautifully, and I cried throughout the last 25% of the book. It was really beautiful story telling. If you are looking for romantasy/fairy tale story that will make you feel good after you read it and leave you with a book hangover for days, this is for you.

this book completely swept me up in its fairy tale world and did not let go. it feels familiar in the best way while still offering fresh twists that kept me invested from start to finish. the story blends romance magic and adventure seamlessly and never loses momentum.

ivory is a strong compelling heroine who carries both emotional weight and determination. her journey through cursed kingdoms is filled with danger heartbreak and hope, and every challenge she faces feels meaningful. the romance is intense and emotional without overpowering the plot, which made it even more satisfying.

the love story is beautifully done. the stakes feel real and the connection between the characters is full of tension tenderness and sacrifice. every moment between them matters and the emotional payoff is absolutely worth it.

the world building is vivid and immersive. each setting feels distinct and magical, and the sense of adventure gives the story a grand fairy tale atmosphere while still feeling personal and heartfelt.

five stars easily.

WOW! This book got off to an intense start and the beautiful and evocative writing immediately pulled me in.
This is a Snow White fairy tale retelling with several interesting twists and references to other fairy tales. The kingdoms we encounter are intriguing and portrayed in such a vivid manner that you are transported into the story and the characters we meet along the way are full of life.
Our FMC may be young, but she is tough and has the purest of hearts, willing to risk herself for the greater good.
Our MMC is the morally grey one and his gradual, but unstoppable fall, realizing that there is someone he would be willing to do anything for, is so beautiful and had my heart swooning!
There were some intense emotional moments that had me crying, and in general this story had me feeling some big feelings. The spice was minimal (closed door), but still gave me tingles.

This Snow White retelling absolutely blew me away. Ivory is the kind of heroine you fall in love with instantly. She is fierce, adventurous, stubborn in the best possible way, and always ready to help anyone who crosses her path. And Hunter? Lord help me, that man had me screaming at my screen more than once. Every time he held back what was wrong with him, I was practically chanting, ‘JUST TELL HER!’ 😂😂

The pacing is perfection, not rushed, not dragged out; just a beautifully crafted journey that pulls you in and refuses to let go. The world building is immersive without ever overwhelming you, and the character development is flawless. And the extra epilogues? Chef's Kiss. This book blew my mind. I’m obsessed

This book is a long read but well worth it. It’s an amazing retelling of Snow White. The seven kingdoms she’s on a mission to save along with the seven kings stories were amazing and told in great detail.

Hunter stole my heart from the beginning. I absolutely LOVED him. The transition of him as a man was beautiful.

Ivory is a bad ass and I wish we got to have a third POV and see things through Seraphinas eyes since she’s SUCH a big character.

Together, ivory and hunter built a friendship and relationship that starts on lies, and that is never a good sign. Are ivory and hunter strong enough to withstand the darkness that Seraphina brings and the lies their relationship is built on???

This slow-burn Snow White retelling was an unexpectedly delightful read. I especially enjoyed the unique twist of giving the kings from neighboring kingdoms their own magical abilities, which added depth and intrigue to the fantasy world.

The love story between Hunter and Ivory was beautifully written, showcasing how love can truly conquer all. Their relationship developed in a natural, heartfelt way that made their connection feel genuine and meaningful.

Although fantasy is not usually my preferred genre, this story completely won me over. It was engaging, romantic, and thoughtfully crafted. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would absolutely recommend it to readers looking for a fresh and enchanting retelling.

I technically shouldn't rate this, because I received a beta copy of it, which are usually more of a rough draft than an ARC Copy.

But oh.my.god. I love this book so much. I've been reading a lot of fantasy romance right now, and this one hit in all the right ways. There are so many emotionally devastating moments in this book, but just as soon as it breaks you down, it puts you back together. I basically have whiplash (in a good way) from 500 pages of beautiful emotional scenes. Can't wait for this to release so I can get the paperback! The cover is GORGEOUS!

A huge thank you to Miss Avery for sending me a beta copy! I was too excited to wait for the ARC! <3

Snow White retelling with a hint of Beauty and the Beast and other stories, with a darker twist. Ivory’s story starts out heavy, then leads you to a horrific realization that leads Ivory to do something that a normal princess would never do. Take matters into her own hands to try and save the 7 kingdoms.
And the Hunter that is sent after her by the Queen (Ivory’s stepmother)? Swoon worthy for sure. But will he be able to follow through with the Queen’s demands? Or will he follow his heart?
A story of finding love in the most unexpected places, and the power of true love. It’s heartwarming and heartbreaking and amazing, and I couldn’t have asked more from a Snow White retelling.

i would give this a 3.5 to 4 stars. I enjoyed the alternate take on the different fairytales reflected in the book; from Snow White to King Midas to Beauty and the Beast. The author did a good job of laying the groundwork for books about the seven kings. I did find myself annoyed with the FMC at times but I think that is my own struggle with the juxtaposition between her sheltered naïveté and her conviction and bravery.; there were times the conflict between the two was too much. I did the enjoy the twist on the love story between the FMC and MMC. Overall, I enjoyed the book and was glad I had the opportunity to read it.

A Mirror of Hearts by Rachel Avery is a beautiful fairytale retelling of Snow White (without the dwarfs). The storyline is very well thought out, and has strong character development and connections.

This book delivers a beautiful romantic romantasy, filled with magic, emotion, and adventure, while keeping the spice level really light at about 🌶️/5. It is a really slow burn and the romance feels tender and meaningful rather than rushed.

If you love fairy-tale retellings, enchanting worlds, and magical romance, this book definitely worth picking up.

This is a solid and beautifully written fairytale retelling. I loved Princess Ivory’s character; her kindness and honesty were refreshing and heartfelt. While I did find this to be a slower read at times, with a few moments that felt repetitive, those are minor points compared to the beautiful character arc that unfolds throughout the story.

ARC read: This was a great Snow White retelling! Sometimes I am hesitant to read a retelling of a fairy tale because I don't want it to be the same story but, this was fantastic. I liked the dark twist on this story and the different love interest. I liked that you could tell it was based on Snow White but also different and it's own story. Definitely recommend!
