‘If you want my comeback so badly... get it off Arsyn’s face."
Emileigh has never known safety. The only comfort she’s known was from Arsyn Reed. The boy she met online as kids but never got to meet. All she knows is coffee, hiding from Silas and the safety of the Coade. The Coade is a generations-old organization that used to keep people safe, but now, Silas has other uses for it, and that includes Emileigh.
“I was emotionally yours before I ever touched you.”
Arsyn never emotionally connected with anyone, even as an adult. He and his brother Vale formed a rock band called Narcissists Apology with the help of Emileigh when they were kids.
Arsyn promised Emileigh as kids he would protect her from the organization, but he did not. realize that she is a part of Silas’s branch. The ghost of the Coade.
All it took for the blood to fall, the bodies to disappear, and the safety Emileigh wanted was for Arsyn promised was the Narcissists' Apology concert, which she would kill to go to. Now Silas knows her general area and will send anyone to retrieve what he purchased.
Only by A. L. Meric completely pulled me in from the first chapter. It’s hard to believe this is a debut novel because the storytelling feels incredibly confident, detailed, and carefully woven together. Every piece of the plot connects in a way that keeps you turning pages long past when you meant to stop.
I’d classify this more as a dark rockstar thriller than a traditional romance. The tension, mystery, and atmosphere really drive the story, creating a world that feels gritty, immersive, and a little dangerous. That said, the spice absolutely delivers and adds another layer of intensity without overpowering the plot.
If you’re looking for something dark, intriguing, and impossible to put down, this is definitely one to check out. A seriously impressive debut, and I’ll be watching closely for whatever A. L. Meric writes next.
For a 1st time author, this book is good. You will feel all the emotions. It is dark, so here's your final warning. Of all the books I've read over the years and owned, this one will stick with me. It's not one you'll soon forget.
