Im very excited to read this collection of stories by Lia and T.D. I love T.D.’s work already so when I saw he teamed up with Lia for her debut, I was beyond ecstatic! Lia and T.D. are both fantastic people that I’ve gotten to know in the book community and if you are able to, you should definitely follow them and check this out! I hope to see more from both authors in the future!
See a few quick thoughts on each story and my ratings below:
I Let Her In (Lia) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Fast paced. Depression, sadness and ghosts. What happens when you try to talk to beings on the other side? Usually nothing good…
Filled With Nothing (T.D.) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a way with words. Grief, ambition, regret, Self-fulfillment, determination, and some hatred. The determination to be somebody you don’t want to be. Only for it to drive you into a different kind of soulessness. I love the reemergence of T.D.’s infamous Hollow Man/Faceless Man. The idea that death is a visible being when it knows your time is about to come.
12:06 (Lia) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very short but still Heavy. Grief makes you hold onto things. Whether it be spiritual or physical. Sometimes u want to hear the person you miss the most, but sometimes a darkness is what awaits you.
Craved Awake (T.D.) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Body horror. Very descriptive. A realistic fear I think anybody can relate to. Imagine waking up from anesthesia and hearing everything going on during your cosmetic surgery. Not online the heartless ridicule from doctors and nurses. But also the feelings of the actual procedures….YUCKKKK.
Endured (Lia) - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A dark letter from a man to his child whom he never got to meet. A letter not really full of love, but more of recognition and awareness. This was an interesting story because it’s in the form of a letter but also because this person talks in such a blunt, stoic and unloving manner while at the end of their life.
I was excited to see one of my lovely friends Lia making her debut with a collection of horror short stories collaborating with T.D Lawler!
Echo In The Shadows is currently free to download on Indiereads.org which meant I added to my TBR & prioritised it for ASAP 🤎
These stories all had the same kind of vibes, sad, eerie, suspenseful & leaving you wanting to know what happened next in each one! So incredibly done.
My two favourites were:
I let her in- This was so creepy!!! I need to know what Norma had suffered to be this shell of a person 😔
Carved Awake- This was terrifying!! My worse nightmare! 🫣
You two did amazing with this, congratulations on your debut Lia you should be so proud of yourself 🫶🏻 Makesure to grab your copy & show your support ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you love horror that’s as emotionally resonant as it is terrifying, this anthology delivers. Every story in "Echo Of Shadows" left a mark on me. This collection swings between gut-wrenching and terrifying and I am here for it!
Lia Roses' debut is nothing short of brilliant! She didn't just arrive... she ANNOUNCED herself! "Endured" was my personal favorite from her... raw, haunting, and perfectly layered. It stayed with me long after finishing it.
T.D. Lawler continues to prove why he’s an author you don't want to miss. “Carved Awake” was a standout... disturbing in the best way, and yes, I’ve officially developed a new fear thanks to that one.
This book is worthy of more than five stars and I highly recommend it.
