Melting His Grumpy Heart: A grumpy/sunshine, snowed-in Christmas MM romance

Rate this book
Gruff and grumpy meets sunshine and smiles. Stranded in a lonely farmhouse, sparks flare then soften as winter’s longest night draws them closer.

Trapped by the snow, can sunshine and a solstice sunrise melt the grump’s icy heart?

Alone in his isolated farmhouse, ex‑soldier Jake Whitby lives by three simple no attachments, no complications, no risks. But when a blizzard strands Ru Parker on his doorstep, the grumpy recluse finds himself stuck with a sunshine storm in human form.

Jake resists the intrusion, but Ru’s everything Jake isn’ warm, joyful, and armed with a smile that could melt more than ice.

Snowbound together, Jake’s distance thaws into decorating the farmhouse with winter greenery, snowball fights, and rescuing the wonky Christmas tree he’d banished to the attic. And when Jake quietly shares the ancient solstice sunrise he’s always honoured alone, Ru is there beside him, bringing new light to centuries-old tradition.

As charged glances and accidental touches turn into desire neither can resist, Jake realises his unexpected guest isn’t so unwelcome after all.

When the storm passes, Jake faces a stark retreat to his lonely existence, or embrace the man who’s brought warmth, sunshine, and hope back into his life.

In the season of miracles, where Christmas cheer meets solstice light, will their love be strong enough to last beyond the thaw?

Jake and Ru were perfect for one another. The slow burn, low angst book had well-developed characters. While Jake was grumpy Ru was able to slowly break down his defenses … while dealing with his own heartache and challenges through his vibrant and sunshiney outlook. A must read.

Melting His Grumpy Heart by Ali Rycart is the story of two men who are nursing badly broken hearts who meet unexpectedly when a winter storm is brewing and after spending time together are able to find what they need in each other to heal. Ru Parker was an illustrator of books, mostly for kids, and was escaping London the week before Christmas to his friend Antonia’s cabin in the tiny village of Bobblecombe. He left in a hurry because he had to get away from everything that happened over his ex. He was hoping the solitude of the cottage would clear his mind and make it easier to return after the holiday. But his car started making noises and then it started to snow so it was difficult to read the signs for the towns and the roads were getting smaller and more difficult to drive on. Then his car totally died and he was scared and cold but he saw a barn and made his way to it and luckily it was unlocked. He found the inside interesting because it had ropes, climbing gear, emergency supplies, and camp beds and blankets so he was able to find a place to sleep and worry about everything else tomorrow. When tomorrow came he was facing the barrel of a gun and behind it was Jake Whitby, the owner of Hi Tor Farm in Dartmoor, many miles away from Bobblecombe. He was ex-military having spent 15 years in the Special Air Service and now ran Whitby Survival where he was a certified instructor in extreme survival environment techniques and ran camps for groups who needed training. Ru told him what had happened and Jake was not happy as he didn’t want him there at all. He told him that a storm was coming but he was handy and would look at his car so he could fix it and get him to leave, but when he tried he discovered that it was too far gone and was destined for the junk yard. He made an offer for Ru to stay in the house until the storm ended, surprising to him because no one had been there except him in the last 3 years. When he needed to clear his mind, Jake went to the barn and chopped wood along with his sidekick, his dog Monty. Ru knows that his being there is an imposition so he says he can pay or do work for him. But Jake doesn’t want money and says he can help with cooking. They are both starting to feel an attraction but Ru wants no entanglements and Jake is determined not to get close to anyone ever again. Jake is quite grumpy and tends to be terse, sullen, and brisk while Ru usually sees the good side of things, even though he is hurting. While Jake works in his office, Ru looks around the living room and books on the bookshelves and learns a lot about Jake just by looking at them as well as the pictures on the wall, beautiful photos that Jake took, and also of some people. They talk about their lives but not the details of why they are both in the condition that they are but they are learning more about each other which feeds the attraction. Ru asks if they can decorate the house for Christmas so during a break in the storm they go to the woods and gather greenery and mistletoe. They make wreaths and other decorations and when the lights go out and when Jake gets out the candles and lamps everything looks magical and they kiss. Ru tells him what happened with his ex and why he had to leave London and Jake stands up for him and when they kiss again Ru would like more but Jake is an honorable man and says it’s not the right time. Things get awkward but when Ru goes out and builds a snowman, Jake helps, and it turns into a snowball fight full of fun. Jake tells him about his Nan and the winter solstice they always kept and Ru stands vigil with him that night. Jake believes in the old ways and they both enjoy watching the darkness turn to light and he is finding the solid walls he built around his heart beginning to crumble. There is caution and running away and Jake knows he has been running away which leads them to more kisses and for them to make love. They are both worried about the future because when the storm ends Ru is supposed to leave but the decide to live for now. Jake finally tells him about the betrayal of his ex and when Ru asks him what he really wants he knows he doesn’t want to go back to the solitary life he had and wants to try being with Ru and see where it goes, and luckily it leads to love for them. I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Ryecart did an excellent job of slowly giving away the reasons why Jake and Ru were the way they were all as they slowly break down the barriers around their hearts to find love. Jake was a real grump and wanted nothing to do with Ru when he first came into his life but Ru was a smart, sunshiny guy who saw the good in almost everything and slowly filled the solitude of Jake’s life until he didn’t want him to leave. Both of their exes betrayed their trust and hardened their hearts but as they did things together and supported and protected each other they slowly melted until they wanted to be together and fell in love. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like grumpy/sunshine stories about two men with broken relationships in their pasts that color their feelings who meet unexpectedly and as they get to know each other realize that they can move beyond what was holding them back and find the love they both want.

I liked the intro for both Jake and Ru. It wasn't too reliant on expo dumping and only hinted at the big info that wasn't immediately relevant (like what what happened with Ru's ex and Jake's reason for being alone). Too many stories would've just expo dumped that in internal monologues, so I'm happy this one didn't.

Jake admitting to himself that his attraction to Ru was "specific and personal" after like two days barely spent together was a bit much imo. Ironically, I usually like it when stories give a reason for why the MCs find each other special against all the other men in their lives, but I'm this case, it would've been fine if Jake had stayed with the surface level "he's attractive" because they were in forced proximity anyway. Going down to the "Ru is special" route made it feel insta-lovey because they'd barely actually interacted.

While I liked that Jake and Ru struggled to contain their attraction, both of them saying things that they didn't one intend to/had sexual innuendos multiple times got repetitive. Ru suggests some form of payment that is misconstrued as an offer of sex, Jake continues conversation despite himself, Ru about the Christmas decorations and mistletoe... It was fine the first couple, but internal "Where did that come from?" thoughts get very old, very quickly and end up being lazy when overused.

Their first kiss was very amazingly done.

Unfortunately the last 25% of the book sort of echoes the issues I had earlier, primarily that it felt repetitive. .

I wasn't a fan of both Ru and Jake (especially Jake) using the "let's focus on today" spiel when Jake had asked what happens after the snow melted. Jake's entire thing was that he was scared that he get attached and break when Ru left, so him actively accepting intimacy and the connection sex brought while also deliberately pushing off the possibility of the negative outcome he was inviting was very OOC . There's a lot that affection and horniness can do, but nothing short of true love should result in a character overcoming such a deeply seeded issue (aka Jake's fear of being left alone and betrayed again) and at that point, Jake shouldn't have felt that strongly about Ru such that he'd be able to ignore one of his key fears. The fact that he did so was disappointing because it left so much tension on the table.

The ending was alright, but I feel like it could've used a bit more drama.

TL;DR: Good start and characterization + narrative set up. Got a bit repetitive and lost some good moments because the characters had too similar of character arcs and fell for each other just a tad too early. 3.5 stars that I'm rounding down.

The blurb pretty much says it all, the beauty is in the details of the telling. Two men, both hurt by past lovers and withdrawing from any connections to protect themselves, find a softening of their protective layers as they wait out a week long snowstorm together. Discovering an unexpected ease with each other, growing feelings of protectiveness from Jake and sensitivity and caring from Ru, the pull of attraction and the specialness of the season lead to a lowering of barriers and a softening of boundaries, the sharing of broken hearts and damaged souls, and a yearning for something they fear they may not capture or be able to hold if they do. Opening up and sharing their painful pasts helps them consider the possibility of a new future together, if they can be open and let things unfold as they will.

The developing connection between the two men is hesitant but hopeful, the fears from the past raising barriers that must consciously be lowered, especially on Jake’s part. Ru is much more willing to take a chance, Jake reluctant to give up the tight rein on his emotions and reliance on maintaining control of his environment by not letting anyone close, but Ru’s sunny personality and willingness to try give him courage to take that leap of faith to gain what he really want— a life with Ru.

Even though both have a lot of personal baggage, I found the story to be very hopeful and uplifting, watching as two hearts broken by others reached out to embrace the healing to be found in each other. Both characters spoke to me in a special way. (It just dawned on me that other than the dog, there were no other characters involved in the book unless you count the memory of Jake’s nan, and the painful story of the two ex’s. It is unusual to not have other characters, even minor ones, not crop up randomly for short periods.) I could totally visualize the whole story in my mind, unfolding like a movie that kept my undivided attention, invested in their journey to a well-deserved HEA. I loved the characters and the connections, wrapped in the magic of an extended snowstorm, heightening awareness and tensions, aided by the magic of the season, tied to modern and historic times — I really liked the blending of the two. It’s a beautiful story, one I can easily recommend, and one I will probably reread periodically during the holiday season because of the good feelings I was left with at the end.

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my voluntary review.

This is a slow burn, grumpy/sunshine Christmas story and I loved it. This is the story of Ru Parker and Jake Whitby. Ru is an illustrator of children's books. He is also escaping London to get away from everything related to his ex. He is headed to his friend's Cabin in Bobblecombe when his car starts making weird noises. And it starts to snow and obscures important directional signs. When his car finally packs it in, the snow is coming down in earnest. Luckily he finds a barn with a cot and falls asleep. He is planning to deal with everything tomorrow. Waking up with a gun aimed at him is not how he expected to start his day. The man behind the gun is the owner of Hi Tor Farm in Dartmoor, many miles away from Bobblecombe. Jake is ex-military and now runs courses in extreme survival environment techniques. Jake wants Ru gone so he offers to fix his car for him. But the car is beyond help so Jake shares his home with Ru. With the snowstorm raging, there really isn't any other choice. This is their story. Both men had heartache to overcome. Ru with his sunshine attitude tried to brighten up Jake's home and life as a thank you for letting him stay. And Jake had been holding onto his grumpy attitude for a couple of years. But it was Ru's kindness and sunshine attitude that slowly helped bring down the walls he had around his heart. This is a well written book that is easy to read. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is an adorable slow burn holiday romance. It will definitely put you in the holiday mood. I look forward to more books by this author.

MELTING HIS GRUMPY HEART

This is a slow burn, grumpy-sunshine, Christmas romance story by Ali Ryecart.

The story begins with Ru leaving London in a car that has seen better days, and unfortunately the car and weather both decide to turn against him before he reaches the small village he expected to hide away in for the holidays. Thankfully the car breaks down close enough to a barn he is able to shelter in before the blizzard blinds his way.

Jake discovers a trespasser in his barn on morning rounds and finds himself offering to let Ru stay in the main house with him until the winter storms pass by. He tried to fix Ru’s car first but discovered it was ready for the junkyard.

As the storm rages outside, the men start to share a little of their lives with each other, and find themselves attracted and trying to decide if they should start something that may not go anywhere.

When Jake shares how much winter solstice has always meant to him thanks to his Nan, Ru falls a bit harder for him and they both share an evening of love and romance before Jake wakes up deciding it can’t go anywhere and distances himself from the man he is falling in love with. But Ru isn’t willing to walk away and fights hard to hold onto the love and the man that has come to mean so much in so short of time.

The book is a heartwarming story of finding love when you least expect it and having the happily ever after you always dreamed of.

Independent reviewer for Neon, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Ms Ryecart does holiday stories like no other and I bloody LOVED this!

The last book Ms Ryecart wrote was dark and deadly. And this?? Is so very NOT those things.

Jake has been hiding himself away, working on his suruvual business. Ru finds himself stranded after his car breaks down and there is a blizzard. What follows is Jake slowly descending into life again, with Ru.

What I loved most about this, was that Jake really did not see it coming! It wasn't a meet cute, with Ru waking up with Jake's gun in his face, but even from that point, I think Ru saw it and jake just did not. And it was a lot, a LOT of fun watching him fall hard and fast and really getting blindsided by Ru, in the best way.

There is no real drama, and it's very low on the ansgt scale. Steamy, of yes! Once these two get down and dirty, it heats up nicely.

But it's emotional in a way I didn't quite see coming, and I'm really not sure why I didn't. Much like Jake, I was somewhat blindsided but I loved that I was. Sometimes, it's really great to be slapped upside the head with emotions that come out of nowhere! Might just be me, but just saying how much I loved the emotional attachment that these two develop.

This is, quite simply, a wonderful tale of 2 men falling in love around the Christmas period and it is Ms Ryecart at her very best.

Melting His Grumpy Heart is a wonderful slow-burn story with just the right amount of heat. I’ve loved all of Ali Ryecart’s Christmas stories and this one is no exception. Snowed-in/forced proximity stories are one of my favorite tropes to read at Christmastime.

Ru and Jake are both hurting. Jake has been hiding away in the country for more than a few years but we don’t find out why until pretty far into the story. Ru is running away from London to try and forget his ex. I loved these two hurting souls finding their HEA with each other.

The blurb is perfect so I won’t rehash it. Instead, I’ll tell you that this book gave me all kind of feels and I thought it was a perfect story for the season of miracles. I don’t often mark passages in books that I read but this exchange between Ru and Jake really hit me.

Ru turned to him, face glowing with more than just the dawn. “What do you wish for?”…“To find my way home. To regain my place in the world.”

Melting His Grumpy Heart is one of several beautiful Christmas stories I’ve been privileged to get an advanced copy of this year; I loved everything about it. The epilogue was the perfect touch to let us know how Jake and Ru are getting along six months into the future.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

This is another great Christmas story by Ali Ryecart. It's low angst, slow burn, trapped by a blizzard and the story of two men who are burnt and hurt by previous relationships.

Ru is fleeing when his life crumbles and he just wants to lick his wounds. Lost in Devon during a snowstorm he is rescued by Jake, a loner, ex-miliary living on a farm where he runs survival courses.

Jake just wants to be left in peace, he has been hurt so deep, he thinks being alone is better than opening himself up again.

The more optimistic Ru is the total opposite, while also hurt, he more sees the future, the way forward even if he doesn't know exactly how and where.

Snowed in for several days, walls being to crumple when attraction turns to feelings.

I really love these two, they fit together, they have chemistry and are very well written with depth and background.
Their stories take a while to come out and the story is a decent slow burn, I like that it takes them a while to act on their attraction and how Ru is slowly tearing down Jake's walls, often by Jake just rebuilding them.
The story is just about these two men, there is no other characters involved, it's just them, the snow and a dog.

It's a book you don't want to put down and for a change I was glad that sleep seemed to evade me.

Melting His Grumpy Heart is a tender, slow-burning romance that beautifully captures the healing power of love, companionship, and second chances. Ali Rycart delivers a heartfelt story about two men—each carrying the weight of betrayal and heartbreak—who find solace and unexpected warmth in each other during a snowbound escape. Ru Parker, a charming and optimistic children's book illustrator, and Jake Whitby, a rugged ex-SAS soldier turned survival instructor hardened by past wounds and content with his gruff isolation. Their worlds collide just as a winter storm brews, and what begins as a reluctant acquaintance slowly transforms into something deeper. Ru’s sunny disposition and gentle persistence chip away at Jake’s icy exterior, revealing a man who, despite his grumpiness, yearns for connection. As they navigate snowy landscapes, shared meals, and moments of vulnerability, their bond deepens into a love that neither expected but both desperately need. Rycart masterfully balances emotional depth with cozy, atmospheric charm. The contrast between Ru’s light and Jake’s shadows creates a compelling dynamic that fans of the grumpy/sunshine trope will adore. Their journey from guarded strangers to devoted partners is both believable and deeply satisfying.

- Forced proximity
- grumpy/sunshiny
- snowed in
- slow burn
- low angst
- winter romance
- more of a rural setting

This is a cozy, soft and warm holiday story. Reading it felt a bit like a warm hug.

It's the tale of two guys who have been burned and wounded by past relationships and yet it's very low angst with a delicious slow burn and still enough spice. Because when Jake and Ru, our MCs, get going it gets really hot! Their chemistry is palpable and I loved watching when attraction turned to feelings. To witness how Ru brought Jake's walls to crumble and his heart to thaw was satisfying.

Beautiful written and full of emotions.

I was rooting for Jake, our ex military, grumpy loner and Ru, the definitely more sunshiny book illustrator.
Since those two are the only human characters in the story (snowed in in a more rural setting) there is more than enough time for Mrs. Ryecart to develop them well including backstories. And she did that wonderful. I didn't miss the fact that there weren't any other characters (apart from Monty the dog).

While reading, I often felt like I was there too, sitting in the log cabin, listening to the storm and feeling the crackling fire.

I enjoyed this heart warming read and was well entertained. I definitely recommend to give it a try.

Ru, who is escaping London and the memories of his crappy ex, plans poorly and gets stranded in the countryside. Unbeknownst to him, he is miles and miles away from his destination, but manages to find a warm barn to hole up in for the night. He is woken up by the grumpy face of Jake, who is also doing some hiding out of his own (in a way). Their meet-cute reveals so much about who they each are and it's adorable. Luckily, Jake's heart hasn't completely turned to stone and he allows Run to stay out the snowstorm with him in his home. While stuck in the house, they get to know each other and it's lovely how they end up being who the other needs. This is a wonderful, enjoyable story with some feels and some spice made even better for me by the unusual jobs held by the MCs and also the celebration of the winter solstice. I enjoyed reading about these cultural way of celebrating the longest night - just beautiful. Loved the details!

What to Expect:
*Survival Expert/ex-SAS + Children's Book Illustrator
*grumpy/sunshine
*loner + city boy
*both betrayed by exes
*Winter holiday short novel
*winter solstice celebration
*gathering of greenery
*snowed in
*forced proximity
*cute dog
*stranded MC

What an experience...reading this book.
There is so much pain, love, relationship building, cultural references and life skills included.
An ex military man has practically become a recluse in the moors of England.
His self-isolation is interrupted by an artist fleeing London...in a junker of a car...that strands him.

So...the soldier saves the from the poor artist from the decisions he made...and himself from a lonely Christmas...
Along the way there are snowball fights, the gathering of holly, a wonky snowman, a rescue dog, lots of meals and the sharing of secrets.

So much comes to light and they each learn the way the other thinks and what in their past have brought them to this point.

I especially liked the explanation of the solstice sunrise tradition and the way they encouraged each other to move forward.

This slow slide into a relationship, wasn't slow if you realize it happened during a few days, but the immersion into each others life was deeper due to their living conditions and the trust they built between them.

I loved this book and think you will too.

Thanks to Ali, Neon Rainbow, Book Funnel and especially Janet Hunt for this ARC. She's amazing!

When Ru gets stranded in an unfamiliar area during a snow storm after his car breaks down he isn't sure what to do. Or how he's going to get himself out of the situation he finds himself in... That's where Jake comes in! Ex special forces, and expert survival guide, specializing in teaching people how to survive in extreme situations, takes Ru in, although he's not happy about it. Both men have been hurt in the past and are trying to recover from old wounds, but together they realize that they have to take chances at being happy even when its daunting.

I liked reading about these two men, they definitely don't have an easy journey. Jake is a bit brash at first but slowly he warms up to Ru and lets his guard down which is when we really started to get to know him and his character. I thought the slow burn between these two was done well, I absolutely adored the scene where they built a snowman together, simply adorable! I loved how they taught each other things that neither knew about prior to meeting one another.

Overall I enjoyed reading this book!

Ru’s warmth and optimism clash with Jake’s gruff reserve, but as they spend snowbound days together, Jake’s icy defenses begin to melt. Decorating the farmhouse, sharing laughter, and witnessing the solstice sunrise side by side, their connection deepens into undeniable desire. When the storm clears, Jake must decide whether to retreat back into loneliness or embrace the unexpected love that has brought light, hope, and renewal into his life.

I loved this story that beautifully blended grumpy/sunshine romance with the symbolism of winter giving way to light — a metaphor for emotional rebirth. I liked how Jake’s self-imposed solitude was challenged by Ru’s openness and joy, Ru’s presence helped Jake confront his grief and rediscover warmth, the solstice sunrise symbolised rebirth, marking Jake’s emotional thaw and Jake faced the pivotal decision to remain closed off or embrace change and intimacy. Plenty of emotions and feelings between the two men. This was an MM story with mature content.

A Grump, A Ray of Sunshine, and One Very Snowy Farmhouse

Rating: ★★★★☆
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Grumpy/Sunshine • Snowed-In • Forced Proximity • Holiday Romance

Ru Parker shows up like a glitter bomb on Jake Whitby’s frozen doorstep, and honestly? The poor man never stood a chance. Ru’s dealing with his own stuff, but he still handles Jake’s prickly edges with this soft, steady patience that hits you right in the chest. And Jake — Mr. No Attachments himself — starts bending every one of his self-imposed rules just so Ru feels safe, warm, and wanted. I mean… sir. Please. Keep pretending you’re “not looking for anything.”

The slow melt between them is adorable in that “these idiots don’t realize they’re already halfway in love” kind of way. It’s winter chaos and coziness bundled together. There wasn’t really a downside for me; it’s just a sweet, warm read with two men who deserved every soft moment they got.

This is a sweet story with grumpy /sunshine and forced proximity tropes. Jake and Ru are both likeable characters who are dealing with betrayals from their former partners. Ru gets stranded because of a snowstorm and Jake lets him stay at his home, out in the middle of nowhere. It is against Jake's better judgment at the time, but the two of them quickly develop an attraction for each other. They don't do anything about it until about 70% into the book, which is normally fine by me. I don't mind slow burn romances, as long as something else happens in the book. The thing is that it took me longer than usual to read this book, because I found it slow going and I felt some parts in the middle really dragged, plus Jake was forever waffling about his decision to be with Ru. But it was well written with some beautiful scenes and some eventual spice, so I soldiered on until the end.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

~* ARC Review*~

--Grumpy X Sunshine-- Trapped inside from storm-- cutest doggo companion-- tension-- instant attraction--Slow burn with HEA-- Lots of Winter celebration-- Ex military to survivalist-- Heart broken illustrator finds protector--

Ru & Jake help keep you cozy this winter season. A slow burn + Forced proximity really helps build the heat through this storyline.
Ru is brokenhearted Illustrator trying to focus on his work and was not looking to fall into the eyes of an ex military- now survivalist. He also did not expect his car to just stop working. But alas, this is where their story begins.

There is a bit of push and pull through this story, but low angst imo. It's a lot of learning to trust the other person and being able to be more open with each other. It takes these two a bit to really let go.

Both men has heartbreak in their pasts, which does bond them. But it always scares them when they realize they don't only have attraction. They have growing attraction.

I really loved Jake's passed down winter traditions and I really love that he got to share them with Ru. It's always fun to watch the ice break apart on a grumpy man, and Ru does just that with ease.

This is a bit of an emotional journey for them and they throw themselves into in the end.

Ru is escaping London, wanting to be by himself to heal his wounded heart, he does not count on the weather, his broken down car and man who shares his home to give him what he needed.
Both Ru and Jake have been hurt by past relationships, but when Jake comes across Ru sleeping in his barn, something about that brought out Jake's protective nature and he invited him into his home. With only having the two characters, it gave me time to get to really know Ru and Jake, their quiet moments spending time in front of the open fire, going out to get decorations, them opening up to each other and the passionate moments when walls start to crumble.
I always love a forced proximity at Christmas, there is something about the HEA that is magical and with the addition of the old traditions celebrating the solstice, which I found really interesting this book hits the mark.

This was a sweet, slow burning holiday romance. Ali Ryecart does a really nice job with the forced proximity, stuck in a snowstorm trope. It's not insta love for Ru and Jake. Both have had their hearts bruised and aren't interested in risking them again.
Jake is pretty much the stereotypical loner. Grumpy. Ex-military. Ru's not a total sunshiny opposite, but he is the first to be open to a relationship.
This is a cozy, cold night read. Lots of fluffy blankets, a cup of cocoa and the dog hogging the couch! Quick and fun to read. Enjoyed the pacing and the storyline. Yeah, its a bit tropy. But Ali Ryecart writes with magic and there's a reason that most of the stories I've read of hers are holiday tales.
I received an advanced copy of this ebook and this is my review.

Perfect hurt/comfort holiday romance

Ru is fleeing the ruin of a relationship in London.
He's not thinking properly and just runs, which ends with him stranded in the countryside in the dead of winter.
Thankfully he finds shelter but it's not ideal.
The farm owner, Jake is quite surly and wants nothing to do with an unequiped city boy.
Unfortunately for them both, a very bad storm is on the horizon and so, reluctantly, Jake offers Ru shelter.
There is chemistry between them but both are loathe to act on it initially.
As the days drag on, they slowly get to know one another and realize they must make the choice to either let go of past hurt or risk losing the chance at a lasting love together.

Ali has a trapped-in-the-snow, forced-proximity, grumpy/sunshine romance with a beautiful dash of hurt/comfort. From the very first page, I knew I was going to love it. It's pure winter magic — a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere wrapped in snow, a grumpy ex-soldier who’s shut himself off from the world, and the burst of sunshine who crashes into his solitude.

The slow thaw between Jake and Ru is tender and heart-warming, filled with small moments that build into something truly special with quiet emotion and healing warmth.

It’s everything I wanted from a cozy, snowed-in romance: soft, emotional, romantic, and full of hope.

There’s so many great things about this lovely little story. They started with Ru’s prayers to keep his little car running, then on to waking up with a gun in his face. The storm, the two men who’re both just trying to heal. My favorite part of it is the setting, though. It’s such a primal feeling when you’re in the midst of such a storm in a more remote area.
Ru is not the city boy he thought he was. He adapted so easily to country life and to older ways. Jake was no doubt an exemplar soldier, there’s just no way a man that prepared wouldn’t be. I’m not sure he’s truly grumpy, more isolated for too long with a side of taciturn. I love them both!

Nice, low angst winter romance between a book illustrator who is fleeing London to get away to clear his head, and a survival trainer.

When Ru decides to leave London, he uses his crappy car that he should have taken to the shop first. He's on his way to a friend's cabin when the snow starts and the car stops. He spends the night in a a barn, and is discovered the next morning by Jake, who runs a survival training camp. Jake is grumpy and lonely, and Ru is just happy to be away from his ex. It's a slow burn, but they find their HEA at the end.

I've read this UK author before. The main Characters in this MM story are Ru, a city boy escaping the city and Jake a Grump. Ru's car stops on a lonely country road and he finds a barn to shelter in. Jake finds Ru in his barn. Life has been cruel to both men but Jake takes in hard. Together they slowly find comfort in each other. Throw in old local rituals and solstice and Ru is very happy for try a relationship after the snow clears. Great story and I love the setting of the moors for this book.

A beautifully written, slow-burn Christmas romance that perfectly captures the warmth of finding love when you least expect it. Jake and Ru are such opposites, the classic grump and sunshine pairing yet their connection feels so natural and deeply emotional. Stranded together in a snowstorm, their gradual thaw from wary strangers to something far more tender was wonderfully handled. Ali does a great job of letting their backstories unfold gently, allowing readers to really understand why they guard their hearts so fiercely.

I loved the quiet intimacy of the setting, just the two of them, the snow, and the dog, which made their growing bond feel all the more personal and heartfelt. The pacing was spot on for a slow burn, with plenty of emotional depth and a lovely balance of humour and vulnerability. A perfect cosy winter read that leaves you feeling warm inside.

I received a free ARC copy and this is my honest review.

Jake and Ru were beautiful together. Both had broken hearts and trust issues. Jake has been alone a long time. He gave up what he loved for someone who betrayed him on a visceral level. Ru was trying to get away after having his heart broken and is stranded. I loved watching them dance around each other and slowly realizing they might want more with each other. I loved how Jake followed some of the "old ways" his grandmother taught him. Ru was so sweet. Their connection was deep and emotional. Definitely recommend!!!

If you're craving a quick, feel-good MM holiday romance with maximum cozy vibes, natural, funny dialogue and genuine emotional depth this is for you! I love a good forced proximity slow burn.

This book is like a cuddle under a warm blanket. The chemistry starts out prickly (as expected from a grump), but watching the sunshiney Ru slowly chip away at Jake’s walls is incredibly heartwarming. I’m a sucker for a Christmas romance and the snowed-in isolation cranks up the tension. This low-angst read proves that even the hardest hearts can be melted by a little Christmas magic.

Thank you, Ali & Neon Rainbow, for my copy of Melting His Grumpy Heart. This MM festive snowed in romance is a sweet slow burn that is full of heat, heart and healing. Both Ru & Jake have bruised hearts but Ru is the sunshine to Jake's grumpy. I loved how Jake slowly opened up to Ru and shared his history including family solstice traditions.
