Thanks to the ALC program I had the amazing opportunity to dive into Palumbo’s work and learn about money management and investment opportunities. This is by no means a book to teach you how to make money, but a guide to help you walk a path where money can also benefit you by exploring your money choices throughout your life.
About the author ✍🏼
Ixamar Palumbo, the proud daughter of Venezuelan immigrants and the first in her family born in the United States, grew up learning about money at the kitchen table while helping her mamá navigate an unfamiliar financial system. Those lessons sparked a lifelong mission: to give other first-gens the confidence, clarity, and tools to build prosperity on their own terms.
Let’s rewire our minds to begin this journey! Remember you can heal and renovate your relationship with money!
💵“Balance and grace: move with intention and patience”
Hermana, you have taught me so much! I can’t thank you enough. I honor my story and you have no idea how meaningful was for me to listen to you!
Write that letter, forgive yourself and your parents or caregivers for past decisions. Remember, there’s no small step, there are just steps towards a better outcome and therefore a better future!
It was a quick and easily digestible book about navigating finances in your 20s and I appreciate the author doing everything to support the Hispanic community while being clear and honest that she’s not a financial advisor.
That being said, the constant juxtapositions and pacing made me really suspect this book was written using AI. And while I understand that is a tool a lot of writers are using these days, the pacing and the constant AI-like repetitions were very distracting. I felt like I was reading a robot, not the author.
I hope this can be taken as constructive criticism. I personally prefer reading what humans write.
I’m not a first gen, but I am someone who struggles financially and has always hustled. This is the most down to earth financial book I’ve read in a long time. She understands poor folks and people who hustle to survive. And I needed this book today. Going to make a few changes in my personal finances and hopefully turn my frown upside down. Highly recommend if you are first gen or if you come from low income background.
