Innocent until proven guilty…but no one is truly innocent if you dig hard enough.
I never expected to find a mate, much less five. What does a girl even do with five men? Silly question…you enjoy them!! Unfortunately, my untimely death had a detrimental impact on my love life. Don’t worry, dying didn’t stick. I’m alive and kicking.
Alas, my death came with complications—namely, my father, who happens to be a prince of Hell. In return for saving me, he now wants to use me for his own nefarious purposes. Shocking, but I don’t trust him as far as I can toss a snowball in Hell. Worse, my mates are treating me like I’m as fragile as cupid wings. Side note—can you die from sexual frustration? Asking for a friend. Me. I’m that friend.
Now, I have to find a way to keep demons from infecting the world, prevent a war hovering on the horizon, convince my mates to complete our mating bonds, and not die in the process. Simple, right? Oh, wait, did I forget to mention I also need to learn how to control my demonic powers without killing myself or my mates in the process? Nothing in life is easy, but I will do anything to claim my very own happily ever after—even defy death a second time, if that’s what it takes.
Meet the Anita—a tortured, bloodthirsty mage with trust issues, Porter—the literal boogeyman who hides in the darkness, Cassius—a surly basilisk who would rather bite you than smile, Darby—a tech wizard who pretends to be more machine than man so he doesn’t have to feel, Soren—a three-headed hellhound who loves playing with fire, and Stryker—an adorably sweet snow leopard stuck in his beastling form.

Where the fanged, furry and spell slingers fight the darkness inside their soul for a chance to claim the one they love.
First book was great! I felt connected to the main characters. This book dragged… there was way to many chapters describing how she needed to rest, and then train. I skimmed more than a few chapters because most of it was just talking about what their plan of action was. Honestly, the whole sperm donor threw me off. He seemed like he was interested in her policing the earth realm and this book he was enemy number one without any proof of communication with him being the one targeting her and her men. We knew MID was corrupt from the first book, but it seemed like a leap that her dad was the one organizing their missions. I mean it turned out it was him but their supposition that it was her dad behind it all, there just wasn’t any proof of it. I don’t like leaving books half finished and I was very close to closing the book at 50% but I did finish it. At the beginning, I expected to read that she signed up for MID but I don’t remember that at all. I don’t remember Gwen becoming part of their team with MID. I feel like I missed some major moving parts that would help make the rest of the story make sense. I only started skimming halfway through when they were in hiding. I’m not sure I’ll read the next book. I hate it when one of the female lead characters bonds are kidnapped at the end, and her injecting herself with black magic did absolutely nothing to help the situation. I don’t remember Soren injecting her with the serum the Jackal gave him in exchange for unhooking his sister, but it’s mentioned at the end of the book she feels something different after the Jackal contacted her, offering his assistance to find her snow leopard Stryker. Honestly, no one missed him at the big fight scene at the end? How could no one miss him? The reader knows the matriarch of his leopard pack took him for forced breeding. It just shocks me that no one missed him until the Jackal messaged her after the fight ended. There was a ton of sex in this story. Everyone but Porter. It was almost too much for me. It was hot but between the consistent talking, the training while their in hiding from MID organization. This almost felt like a fluff book. Giving us backstory for the next book. I loved reading how after everyone’s mating with Anita, besides Porter, that their powers grew. We got to see Cassius being a ball of rock crumble to reveal a snake that curled around him immediately. Aparently, no basilisk can turn someone or something back to their original self. Everyone thinks that thing or person died so I liked that feature in the book. They called Anita a firebird but she’s more of a phoenix instead of a fire bird. Crazy ass Gwen the dryad that Anita saved from the last book is her current bestie. This book starts off with Gwen pushing Anita off a roof, insisting that’s how baby birds learn to fly. She almost splats the pavement until Porter saves her. There were a few fun and very interesting spots to read in this book, but mostly I was bored. The connection I felt to the characters in the first book, waned with this one.
This book brought the swoon, the spice and the suspense. I couldn't put it down, constantly wondering what would happen next. I love how the FMC is so open and accepting and lacks the biases she was raised with but at the same time also incredibly powerful, blunt and takes what she wants. It's refreshing. And the way her men watch over her every need and their inevitable other halves antics, it makes for some seriously swoon worthy but hilarious moments. And Goliath?!!? I would give that pup so many belly rubs. My only suggestion to the author would be to be careful that the plot doesn't get too complicated but other than that, I can't wait for book 3!
I always enjoy this authors work and this series just confirms why I always come back for more. This poor heroine can't catch a break when it comes to her biological family, but when it comes to her new and old besties and her guys her life is looking better. Well, it will be once she gets out of the new crap storm she's in, and on that note, I will be not so patiently (lol) looking forward to the next adventure.
What a misleading book title. It's not a two books series and ends in a cliffhanger. Don't care for misleading storyline. This wasn't good anyway with a weak heroine that constantly talks about her private parts. Book one was okay but this one was a dud with annoying ending. Glad I skimmed the pages until the end to finish. Can't recommend this series.
