A witty, rivals-to-lovers sapphic sports romcom from internationally bestselling author Natasha West
When actress Delilah Day lands the role of a lifetime playing a legendary tennis champion, there’s only one problem – she’s never picked up a racket in her life. With six weeks until filming, she needs help fast.
Enter Cassie Thorne. Once destined for greatness, Cassie’s tennis career ended too soon. Now she’s stuck coaching wealthy amateurs and nursing the bitterness of what might have been. Blunt, disciplined and perpetually cranky, Cassie has no patience for beginners – especially not Delilah, who just might be her worst student yet.
But as practices turn into sparring matches, their on-court battles spark something neither woman expected. And when attraction collides with ambition, both Delilah and Cassie must face the toughest match of their keep playing it safe, or take the ultimate risk – on each other.
Courting Trouble is Natasha West at her bold, funny and irresistibly romantic.
I read this book so quickly. I loved the short chapters, I think it helped with the pace and me being able to read it so fast. I kept wanting more, to see how the two MCs pulled off the act of making Delilah look like she played tennis before.
I’m not sure if I would call Cassie an Ice Queen, but she was definitely close. I would categorize her more as Grumpy in the Grumpy/Sunshine trope, however, I don’t think Delilah was sunshine, only because she had a lot of self doubt. But regardless, I loved seeing Delilah thaw Cassie’s prickliness. Their banter back and forth was hilarious and engaging.
Whitney, while a small piece of the story and a side character, stole the show towards the end. She was definitely a brat, but was hilarious and just what Delilah needed.
Courting Trouble is a quick, low angst, sports romance. Even if you don’t like or know anything about tennis, I believe you’ll enjoy it!
Delilah's agent has a big part lined up for her... but to do it she has to play tennis passibly well. And she's never played before!
Once upon a time Cassie was a pro tennis player, but now she just trains amateurs. But Delilah's agent is paying, and she's surprised at how willing she is to work.
As they train they get closer, tho Cassie tries to stay professional. To train more Cassie borrows access to her ex, Petra's training facility.
(Petea is a a-hole, it turns out. She was Cassie's coach, then dumped her once she was hurt. She also releases video of Delilah to reporters, tho that bites her in the ass.)
Merciful short third act breakup, then resolution.
3 out of 5 stars. Good read, some weird formatting issues.
A disheartened former pro tennis player a would be actress what could they possibly have in common. As it turns out the actress needs a tennis coach for her role playing Tamsin Rowe a pro tennis player. The problem she’s never played tennis before and needs to appear accomplished because her agent said she’s played since her youth.
Add chemistry, the tennis coaches former girlfriend/lover, the brooding tennis coach and an actress with no confidence in herself and a delightful story ensues.
Cute and enjoyable, a nice easy read with low angst that easily keeps you engaged. Surprisingly, it had more spice in it than what I'd normally expect from a West book, but tastefully done and not overly long. Happy to have read.
