The Kosher Conundrum

Rate this book
When disaster strikes, it’s time to make a fake dating scheme with her best friend.

Wedding and event planner Naomi Nachman’s carefully planned life just went up in smoke. When her impossible boss suddenly retires, canceling a multitude of contracts, Naomi’s career and her cousin’s wedding are tanked in one fell swoop. Now Naomi must rebuild her reputation and save the wedding by turning to the one man she can trust.

Jason Greenblatt is facing his own career crisis. Thanks to one tabloid-style photo, his traditional family thinks he’s more playboy than professional chef. He needs to prove himself or his hopes to work in his family’s celebrated knish business will slip out of reach, which is the only reason he entertains Naomi’s audacious proposal.

But as they work together to fix the broken pieces of their lives, sparks fly and the fake partnership begins to feel real, Naomi and Jason discover that the toughest challenge isn’t salvaging reputations or even staging the perfect kosher celebration. It’s risking their hearts.

A sweet and swoony Jewish rom-com perfect for anyone who loves fake dating, foodie romance, and best-friends-to-lovers sparks.

I'll start by saying that I love the plentiful Jewish representation Stacey always includes in her books. It was also great to see the cameos from the other characters. Judith's wedding was an exciting moment, too. However, I thought things were a little all over the place. All of a sudden, Naomi was dropped from her company, and she immediately started her own brand. The timing seemed off and unrealistic. This book would probably have been rated higher if it weren't for the conflict at the end of the book. THERE WERE TWO CHAPTERS LEFT, AND THEY FOUGHT AND BROKE UP FOR NO REAL REASON. It made me so angry, and I was annoyed that it happened so close to the end of the book. As for a series conclusion, I think I needed more of an epilogue or something. Overall, not my favorite from Stacey.

The Kosher Conundrum is the final book in Stacey Agdern’s Last Girls Standing series. I have read all the prior books in this series as well as the books in Stacey’s previous series. It is an enjoyable read with a fun storyline about friends to lovers. The book features Naomi Nachman that we met in the prior books. The series is about 4 cousins that are Jewish and live in New York. The women are close, two sets of sisters. All are professional women. Naomi is an event planner who has a horrible boss. She is in the midst of planning her cousin’s wedding, when her boss shuts down her company and ends all contracts in force. This will cause a huge problem for the wedding as now there’s no caterer, photographer, etc. and there’s no legal entity to manage things. Naomi doesn’t want her cousin to know there’s a problem so she works on getting her own company set up and have contracts signed by all the providers needed.

Jason Greenblatt is Naomi’s best friend. He has his own professional crisis. He is a chef but he’s wanting to change his career. He and Naomi discuss different options for him to pursue new opportunities. They also discuss the wedding as he is the best man and both discuss all the options to save the wedding. As they’re spend time together, they realize they have strong feelings for each other that go well beyond friendship. They decide to pursue it and also keep it from their family and friends as long as possible.

The story includes a lot of friends and acquaintances of the couple that were in different books in both series. It is great to incorporate them in the story but I was confused at times and couldn’t remember some of them. It was interesting to read about the Jewish culture, especially traditions and food. It appears that the couple had to make a lot of strategic moves to save their professional and intertwined relationship. The book is well written and has lots of heartfelt moments. It was a nice HEA ending for Jason and Naomi mwith lots of angst leading up to it. This has been a terrific book and series. I look forward to reading future books by Stacey.

This was a really interesting take on the Best Friends to lovers trope.
Naomi Nachman and Jason Greenblatt have been best friends for about five years. They are each other's go to people when life gives them lemons.
It's actually a bit tricky to explain the dynamic of the romance because the intimacy is almost taken for granted.
But that change takes second place to the drama in their professional lives. Naomi's boss in the event planning business was always difficult, but her sudden retirement and closing of the business was a stunning shock for Naomi. Now she has to try and start her own business while salvaging her cousin's wedding.
Jason is facing his own dilemma as he took off for several months on a series of jobs to help him define where he wanted his chef career to go. While away he made the tabloid press in a way that made the stodgy old guard in the family knish business look at him as a threat to the reputation of the Greenblatt family business. Even though it was Jason's brother who was actually hands on in the business.
So Jason and Naomi go on a quest. She is seeking out new contractors for the family wedding and Jason goes with her, using the experience of each contact to formulate his own response to the family crisis.
This was a very talking story with each adventure bringing something to her business, his future plans and also to their relationship.
I don't think I've come across a story with quite this unusual balance between the intimacy and the emotional and workplace relationship.
It did work really well though I was surprised at how the black moment worked out considering how well they had got to know each other in the lead up.
We did get to see so many people from the previous books in the series and also other series by the author. Some of them were crucial to the resolving of the issues.
I did have confidence in the HEA at the end which was great.

When disaster strikes, it’s time to make a fake dating scheme with her bestie.

Now Naomi must rebuild her reputation and save the wedding by turning to the one man she can trust.

This contemporary fake dating romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building and characters who are resilient, humorous, captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with a kosher conundrum, a cousin's wedding, humor, fake dating, rebuilding reputation, career crisis, something to prove, chaos/drama, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, risking their hearts, Naomi and Jason's story, disaster strikes, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with a kosher conundrum and a fake dating romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is wildly humorous, emotional, and unforgettable.

4.5/5 stars

The Kosher Conundrum is the fourth book in the Last Girls Standing romance series! This is Naomi's story. It is a Jewish rom-com featuring foodie romance and friends to lovers tropes.

I really enjoyed the previous books in the series. So I was very excited to read this book. Each book focuses on one of the four Nachman women. I was very happy to finally get Naomi's story.

Naomi is a wedding/event planner. Jason is a chef. I really liked both of their jobs. And I loved their relationship and seeing them work together. Friends to lovers is such a fun trope. And it was wonderful seeing them become more than friends.

The characters from the previous books appear in this book. It was so great to see them all again. This book is full of so much Jewish rep. That is the best part of these books to me. Overall this was an enjoyable conclusion to the series.

This is my first reading of this author’s work, and it took me a little bit to get into her writing rhythm, but once I did it flowed effortlessly. The story is told from the perspectives of both Naomi and Jason, involving lots of dialogue, both internal and external. It is a tale of friendship sliding into something so much more, all while dealing with saving a wedding and forming their own businesses. The characters are all intertwined, as many are friends, friends of friends, or dating family or friends. Those connections are what saves her cousin Judith’s wedding as Naomi and Jason work together to re-sign vendors while keeping the bride and groom in the dark. This is a story filled with emotion, conflict, ah-ha moments, and of course, Jewish references. It’s well done and entertaining.

A Kosher Conundrum ~ Last Girl Standing #4 by Stacey Agdern

Beautifully written with a believable plot, A Kosher Conundrum draws the reader in from the very start. The characters are well-developed and work seamlessly together, making the story both engaging and heartfelt.

Naomi Nachman is a wedding planner who has her life carefully mapped out in front of her. Her best friend, Jason Greenblatt, has his own set of problems to deal with. When the idea of a fake relationship arises, could it be the solution they both need? And will they finally realise they have more in common than they thought—and find their own happily ever after?

A great story which I thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend.

The Kosher Conundrum by Stacey Agdern is book four in the Last Girl Standing Series. I have so enjoyed the story while learning more about the Jewish customs. This is a friends-to-more story which is also a favorite trope. A sudden change in work that turned into a major crisis for wedding and event planner Naomi Nachman has her anxious about her career. Friend, Jason Greenblatt has his own troubles. However, working together may be the best thing for both of their situations but also opening their eyes to more in the future for them. A lovely story with real-like circumstances and down-to-earth characters. A wonderful afternoon read for that had me pulling not only for their careers but also their future together.

The Kosher Conundrum by Stacey Agdern is a charming blend of romance, family drama, and cultural tradition. Naomi Nachman, a wedding planner whose career implodes after her boss sabotages her cousin’s big day, finds herself teaming up with Jason Greenblatt, a chef fighting to prove himself in his family’s kosher knish business. When circumstances push them into a fake relationship, sparks fly in ways neither expected. Agdern weaves humor, heart, and Jewish cultural detail into a story that feels both fresh and deeply rooted. It’s a delightful read for fans of fake‑dating tropes, foodie romance, and stories about second chances.

This is a Jewish rom-com, which is a Mitzvah because there’s not enough Jewish rep in romance. Jason and Naomi are besties. They are each other’s person even before they date. The two go through workplace crises at the same time and set off to find a reset. She is an event planner and he’s a chef (knish is a specialty), so their professions are complementary, which I loved, and both are foodies. I also loved the depth of their friendship before the romance; friends to lovers is my favorite trope, and it’s done really well here.

Cute book!

My fault: I always say that I don't want to review any books that are part of a series, but this one was. I kept feeling as I read it that I lacked backstory and lacked knowledge of characters who appeared without much introduction. I would recommend reading series in order (two books preceed this one).

Loved the premise, loved the setting, and otherwise really enjoyed the book (although it got a little draggy in the middle).

An entertaining friends to lovers romance.

Best friends, Naomi and Jason, finally give in and make the move from friends to more, while working on Naomi’s cousin’s wedding. This is one of those stories where everything has to fall apart before it gets put back together. I enjoyed watching Naomi and Jason’s relationship grow and catching up with characters from previous books in the series. This is a well written and entertaining story with great characters and a n interesting plot.

A conundrum is the perfect term for the dilemmas Naomi and Jason each have. As a party planner, Naomi’s future was bright until her terrible boss unexpectedly closed shop and left her hanging. Jason is the next gen for his family’s knish business but he wants to add catering-not his family’s choice. They work together, hiding their relationship and troubles brew.

This is the fourth book in this series. I think this one might be my favorite of them by far. Naomi and Jason are best friends. What does one do when they need help in their professional lives? They turn to their best friend and suggest fake dating to save both their careers. Reading their story from fake to real will hook you. I loved it from start to finish. Highly recommend. Naomi was working on planning her cousin’s wedding when her awful boss abruptly canceled all her contracts and closed the business. Now she’s forced to scramble to replan the wedding and get new contracts signed in the few weeks she has left. She turns to her best friend and recent lover Jason for assistance. They work well together until she’s put on the spot and says something that upsets him and he pushes her away without taking about it. This was a steamy friends to lovers romance. It was interesting to read about all the Jewish traditions when it came to weddings.

This book was hard for me to get into a it could be because I was unfamiliar with many of the customs and intricacies of the character’s culture. Overall the story had a good theme and the characters were likable and they do find their HEA.

This book is a meet cute, friends to lovers story. While this couple’s story is confined to this book the characters are connected from prior books in the series which makes it a little bit more difficult to figure who’s who. It’s light and cuddly a fluffy read.

Although this friends to lovers rom-com has a predictable outcome- it's still a fun read. Naomi and Jason team up to help each other out of their respective dilemmas. Sometimes life has to "fall apart" to lead you to where you are supposed to be as Jason and Naomi's story proves. Once again I came away with a greater appreciation of Jewish culture, especially the food (my favorite part of the story). This can be read as a stand alone , however, even though I read the previous stories I was confused at times by the recurring characters so I do suggest reading the other light-hearted stories in the series. I recommend grabbing some knishes and savor this feel good story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
