'Crimson Hooves' continues Bill's epic Lovecraftian adventure. This 30k word novella details his first traumatic case.
All is not well in sleepy Gloucestershire. Strange goatish creatures haunt the woods. Babes are abducted from cribs, without even a changeling being left in their place. The idyllic village of Gaffyrton might harbour dark secrets. Does Bill's mysterious new client, one Melanie Shrub, know more than she's letting on? There's only one way to find out.
Things are going to get messy and dark. Really dark. Like night.
Praise for 'Green Unpleasant Land' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “What a book! Lovecraft meets Conan Doyle, directed by Ridley Scott!"
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Wise witty modern pulp novel, highly recommended."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "An ingenious work of cosmic dread"
This is the second tale from the 'Green Unpleasant Land Cycle'
I came to Crimson Hooves with a little trepidation. I loved Green Unpleasant Land, but other horror series had dipped in quality after bright starts. I needn’t have worried - Crimson Hooves carries on the great writing and atmosphere of its predecessor. I lost count of how often I laughed out loud reading this. Can’t wait for the next novella in the series.
Though not as good as its predecessor - it's less cosmic horror, more folk horror - this is still a fun jaunt through an alternative England aflame with Anglican jihadis and eldritch Lovecraftian entities. Elsie is certainly a welcome addition - every hero needs a sidekick - and I look forward to knowing more about her past.
