India Sheridan knows that her long-term on-again, off-again relationship is over, but that doesn’t mean she enjoys watching her ex fall in love with someone else. Moving on isn’t as easy as she hoped it would be, but as she struggles through that, she’s given a project to buy up the land next to her office. The only problem is that an old bookshop sits on that lot, and when she stops by one afternoon to get the lay of the land, she meets the shop’s cute owner.
Maisie Lincoln is running her family’s legacy into the ground, but it’s not her fault. People don’t read books how they used to. She’s been trying to get historical landmark status for her shop for years, not only to protect it but also to attract more visitors, but after multiple denials, she takes matters into her own hands and runs for city council, hoping to help herself from within the belly of the beast.
When Maisie meets India, she’s taken with her immediately. They’re very different people, and that’s more than obvious to both of them, but there’s an even bigger issue. When they met, India didn’t tell Maisie that the wealthy incumbent whom she’s running against and who has threatened to take Maisie’s shop is her brother, who only sees his seat as a stepping stone to something greater.
Nicole Pyland is a bestselling author of lesbian romance novels, including No After You, All the Love Songs, and the series like Chicago, San Francisco, Tahoe, Sports, Boston, and more. Since 2017, she’s published over 30 novels (not including her What Happened After shorts), and more books are on their way!
Nicole grew up in Indiana, studying English & Film and then getting a MS in Behavior Analysis and moving to California, working by day as a Head of Training at a start-up. She lives with her wife and their opinionated cat, who spends his evenings helping her write stories by occupying half the chair.
3.5 rounded up to 4 purely out of mad respect for Nicole Pyland for this series. This was meh for me. India and Maisie are the couple in this one. India was the on again off again ex of Finley (from October). Frankly, I couldn’t relate to India that much. She was snooty, entitled, and quite pompous. Maisie owns a bookstore, the oldest in New Orleans, and is running for city council to try and get the threats of “progress” to slow down. She’s got prime real estate and her family’s legacy to protect. I did miss the fortune teller in this one, maybe she came in the bookstore once and I didn’t notice.
This book did have two chapters that had repeated dialogue and wording, word for word. Nicole Pyland did that in the Holiday series and it’s not my favorite writing technique, so I wasn’t happy to see that here. There wasn’t too much chemistry in this one for me, but still mad respect for the 11th book in a 12 book series.
In November by Nicole Pyland, Book 11 in the New Orleans Series, the story of India and Maise unfolds in a slow-burn, opposites-attract romance. An undeniable chemistry grows, and as they slowly get to know one another, their connection feels genuine. Earlier in the series, I wasn't overly impressed with India's behaviour, but her development with Maise surprised me, and I was hoping she would get her happy ending.
This is one of my series favourites, with lots going on. I can’t wait for December!
November is the 11th book in Nicole Pyland’s New Orleans series. In this book you have India (who is Finley’s ex ) and Maise, whose family has owned and operated the same book store for generations.
This book was definitely a slow burn, filled with more angst than the other books in this series. However, it was also filled with self growth and characters who were becoming more aware of themselves and how their actions had impacted previous relationships. India was very set in her ways and didn’t want to do anything that was out of her comfort zone and didn’t budge on those decisions. Maise on the other hand had learned to be self-reliant and not show weakness or vulnerability around others, and had a hard time asking and accepting help from others.
These two characters, while polar opposites actually complimented each other and had a chemistry and trust that was built step by step to build a strong foundation for their relationship. I really enjoyed this book and getting to see a new side of India that you didn’t see in her from the other books.
This book was worth the read and made a nice second to last book in a series I have really enjoyed so far.
November is book 11 in the New Orleans aka NOLA Guides book series by Nicole Pyland. This one felt very different from the others despite being connected to them. It was a slow-burn, opposites attract, angsty novel that had a decent amount of frustrating parts that made you want to shake one or both of the MC's.
This book follows business developer, India who is the ex-girlfriend of Finley from boom 10 and historical bookstore owner Maisie as they try time and again to find equal footing within their relationship.
India is rich while Maisie is struggling to hold into her shop. India has unique tastes and fashions while Maisie is more down to earth and chill. These differences in their personalities butt heads - a lot. They encounter more "bumps" in their relationship than all the others due to the fact that India is a fixer while Maisie doesn't know when to ask for help. Their relationship is very start/stop for most of the book. But the ending was sweet and hopeful.
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys mid-level angst or opposites attract troupes.
We’ve almost come to the end of the New Orleans Series with the book, November. I love how Pyland can take a character that was previously seen as the “bad guy,” give them their own story, and make you change your mind about them. As in the case here with India, who meets Maisie in a serendipitous encounter. Not wanting to mess up another relationship, India sets off on her personal redemption tour.
Maisie just happens to be one of the nicest people you could meet. While she’s fighting for her bookstore, her family legacy, the integrity of her town, and defending herself from a bully, in walks her destiny. You throw a bit of an “opposites attract”, “rich girl-poor girl” vibe, along with an understandable withheld truth, and you've got yourself a fun and entertaining story. And don’t forget the meddling friends we all know and love. While November might not be my favorite book in the series, I think it’s a key installment to read that builds up to a finale that I can hardly wait for!
#10 in the NOLA series and in the month of NOVEMBER we follow the story of India and Maisie, We first meet India in book September, You get a little about her and for me I wasn’t really a fan. So when I realized that the next book was going to follow her love story I wasn’t really sure what to except but of course I shouldn’t have worried because this book turned out to be amazing. Nicole as always do not disappoint. Learning more about India and seeing her more valuable side definitely won me over. Meeting Maisie in this book and getting to know her character was a great addition to the series and all her friends that you also get to meet. I think Maisie is perfect for India. There chemistry was instant but it was a slow burn. I really enjoyed this book, the series continues to be such great stories! It’s great that you can enjoy every book as a standalone but I recommend reading the series. It really allows you to appreciate all the characters so much more!
This one was a surprise to me in how much I liked India! In the previous books we only got to know her from the perspective of others and it didn’t seem like she was going to be super likeable. Am I ever glad she got her own story because she might be one of my favourites in the series!
As we know, India is fresh off a permanent breakup with Finley. Maisie is the current owner of her family’s small bookshop that’s been in New Orleans for basically forever. When they cross paths it seems like they’re definitely not meant to be.
Both India and Maisie seem to come across as inflexible but in completely opposite worlds. India is wealthy…Maisie does okay but certainly doesn’t live the life of luxury like India does. From the beginning it seems like that is what will keep them apart. But in actuality…they’re exactly what each other needs.
Really loved this story…completely turned around my view of India!
We met India last month with Finley and she was just pretentious always her way. When they finally end things for good, India is lost but still friends with both Finley and Molly. Maisie owns the book store that has been in New Orleans for generations and want one thing to have her family's book store be historically. When the two meet its nice but when Maisie ask India out she changes everything about the date. Maisie doesn't give up she just takes control and makes India see that things are ok not to have everything so new or expensive. She is learning that letting go of control can be a good thing and Maisie is learning that it ok to be say spoiled at times. The rich/poor girl work with them. This book is a little different from the others maybe the old woman at the book store was supposed to be the psychic that's been in all other books to help them out. A good read can't wait to see what happens next month
I really loved this book and that actually surprised me. To be honest, I didn’t like India in the last book and I wasn’t looking forward to reading her story. I expected her to be pretentious (she is) and uncompromising (she isn’t) but her growth in this book really surprised me. More of her character was revealed and she proved herself to be a brilliant businesswoman and a caring friend. Maisie was different from India in many ways, but they also share many of the same characteristics- pride, independence and confidence. Their relationship seems very unlikely due to their differences, but it works because they find a way to work together through communication and compromise. This book is a great addition to the series.
So a bookstore owner in New Orleans is trying to get her store on the historical places list, she has missed out twice, is it time for number three?
Nicole Poland has given yet another intriguing story with a historical twist this time, enlarging the circle of friends falling in Love! This series is entertaining, touching and actually believable. It is well written with stunning characters that seriously interact with their fellow characters and setting beautifully. I am impressed that this one includes politics and monied characters that push limits of propriety (kind of like we are seeing around us here in the states right now!). I really enjoy Nicole’s style of writing. Check her out, lots to read, all good!
This book is a warm, heartfelt romance about new beginnings, honesty, and finding love in unexpected places. India is trying to move on after a breakup, but life throws her a surprise when her latest work project leads her straight into Maisie’s old bookshop and into her life. Their first meeting is full of spark, and the contrast between India’s polished world and Maisie’s cozy, struggling bookstore sets up a beautiful opposites-attract story. Maisie is determined to save her family’s shop and fight for what she believes in. The twist—that India’s brother is the very person threatening Maisie’s dream—adds drama and tension. Another great addition to the series.
I can hardly believe this is book #11 already! (I am loving this series)
Maisie and India are complete opposites but in a good way. In this book things start out a bit shaky for them but throughout the book they learn how to read eachother, make compromises for one another and learn to love without playing games. India is a fixer kind of person who wants to help however she can but can be a bit much at times and Maisie is an independent woman who doesn't need fixing. They work through it all and end up being very happy together. Book #11 November is a great story. It was nice to read a book that felt I could relate to a bit. Can't wait to read #12!
India has been on again and off again with her girlfriend for years until they finally broke it off. Girlfriend is in love and happy, India is left to wonder what went wrong.
This story follows India, as she asks herself the difficult questions and actively works to make changes when she meets a new woman. Similar to India’s ex, but also stronger.
This is a sweet story of building trust, asking the tough questions and searching for happiness. Another great installment in the New Orleans series.
I had a lot of things going on this month but I had to make sure I got my read of November in. This is my birthday month so I’ve been looking forward to this read for awhile.
I loved getting to learn more about India and getting introduced to Maisie! Even in the 11th book out of a 12 book series, Pyland is able to keep the characters and their storylines fresh. This has really been a great series so far and November is definitely “reread worthy.”
Another great addition to the New Orleans series. I was definitely interested to see how India was going to be in this book compared to the previous one and it was not a disappointment. The interactions between India and Maisie start off slow but build into sparks that leas to their romance. As always communication is key and that is shown in here. If yoimur looking for a semi angsty opposite attracts theme this is for you. Looking forward to the twelfth book.
I hate to say this, but I almost skipped this one. I was feeling a little over this series but then I said, I’ve read all the others so I need to finish. I’m so glad I did. This might be my favorite in the series. Both MC’s grew so much and complemented each other well. The book was well-edited and not rushed. I felt like the summer books were almost thrown together which is why I hesitated here. But well done Ms Pyland.
Opposites do attract. India recently broke up with her long time girlfriend. She isn’t really looking for love, but finds it in a bookstore. Maisie owns a bookstore she is trying to get historic landmark recognition for. Maisie and India couldn’t be more different, yet when they meet in the middle, sparks fly. They have a connection most people envy, and they learn to share their interests.
November brings us India and an opportunity to see her in a whole new light— she even starts to see herself differently. India meets Maisie working nearby, and they start to get to know one another more. However, India realizes she needs to reflect a bit after her breakup to be ready for a new relationship ,
Wow another phenomenal story, I loved the main characters their connection was highlighted beautifully throughout the way they navigated together was captured to perfection, I couldn't put it down definitely a must-read congratulations
November is another excellent installment in Pyland’s NOLA series. In it, we learn more about India, are introduced to Maisie, and then slowly sparks start to fly. Their love story is an enjoyable read. I’m excited to see what Puland has in store for the NOLA finale.
Excellent continuation of this series. Can’t wait to get December. This author is very good at creating diverse characters & interweaving their stories. Kudos to Nicole Pyland. I’ve enjoyed several of the series she’s created.
Nicole you are one fantastic writer. I especially loved when India and Massive finally made LOVE. That nice long part was one of your best along with the ending. Can't wait for December.
