We really enjoyed this graphic novel. I enjoyed it as well as my kids. The illustrations were great and the story was really good also.

Thank you so much to the publishers, Hardie Grant Kids, for sending me a copy.

An Aussie Post Apocalyptic adventure, that also talks of climate change and preserving nature.

The world Lamington lives in has been ravaged by climate change, with the threat of a great flood and the end of the world looming.

She is in search of food and also that of her mum and it’s a journey filled with botz, koalas, tigers, a baby, an axodragon and talking mushrooms.

I adored Ulysses the spider, his antics and humour just added that little bit extra to the story🕷️

Thank-you Andrea and @hardiegrantkids for a gifted copy, in exchange for an honest review.

Review from my six-year-old kid:

“That was the best book ever. It’s better than Star Wars, Wings of Fire, anything! I have to read it every day forever. Can you get me the next book in the series? Can we get it as soon as it comes out? Let’s call her and say ‘Yo, when’s the next book coming out?’ It’s soooo good. I want the box set. I want 13 Lamington books!”

This is a graphic novel bound to become a classic for all time. I loved that it was set in a post-apocalyptic Australia with native animal characters with a strong environmental and conservationist focus. The world Lamington lives in has been ravaged by climate change and today’s children need stories like this. Every character is lively and memorable even if they only appear for a page. Perfect for fans of whimsical worlds, for lovers of Moomin and Hilda. The palette feels particularly unique and the art is just delightful to look at. It had such a particular style that evokes cosines and humour. Every child I’ve seen read it has not been able to put it down and we’ve found the same for ourselves. Great for kids about 8-12 but really anyone older will enjoy it as well. I understand that the author herself is an animal carer as a conservation activist which underpins the message of the narrative even more deeply.

This is a wonderful story with stunning illustrations. Lamington is a girl who gets separated from her mum in a future world ruled by robots. After years of fending for herself she meets a group of animals who join her on a mission to find some seeds that will help heal her world. It’s part adventure, part fantasy, with a climate change theme. A great story for kids who like their graphic novels with a little more depth, and for fans of Amulet and Lightfall.
