Detective Gray Cooper is still finding her footing, but nothing in her training prepared her for this. When the assistant to a local politician turns up dead, Gray can’t shake her suspicions about her newest client – a vampire with secrets and too much charm.

Teaming up with Joe Nebraska—her steadfast partner and undeniable spark—Gray is drawn into a case where nothing is as it seems. Torn between her instincts, her loyalties, and the return of an old flame, she must navigate a growing list of suspects much closer to her than she imagined.

In a town where the supernatural hides in plain sight, Gray’s next move could cost her neck…or her heart.

The Strange Chronicles continues with a cozy-paranormal mystery full of suspense, slowburn romance, and a dash of the unexpected.

Anybody Anywhere was a quick light read. It’s a who done it murder mystery story with a paranormal twist! Gray is an investigator and is approached by a vampire named Conrad. He is being framed for a murder and needs someone to prove his innocence. Gray takes the case and is thrust into an underground world of vampires and secrets.

As the story evolves, she discovers new things about her family she didn’t know before and her past starts to creep into the present. I loved that Gray is a smart independent woman and that she is also understanding and caring with her loved ones. The side characters were interesting and I would love to have a cup of tea with Gramma Sugar 😂 Overall, I found this to be a quick and enjoyable story to indulge in over an afternoon.

I love sharp detective novels with strong characters with a weakness for love. Add in the supernatural elements and it’s popcorn for my soul

I didn’t realize this was the second book in a series, but it pulled me in right away!!! The writing is engaging, the pacing flows smoothly, and the main character’s inner thoughts had me chuckling out loud more than once.

Even though I picked this one up first, I’m absolutely planning to go back and read the first book. The characters feel super genuine and I liked the vampire fantasy aspect to it. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next installment!

"Anybody Anywhere (The Strange Chronicles #2)" by Jennifer Lauer has Gray working her first private investigation case under her new business name and partnership with Joe Nebraska. Their first client is a vampire who is being set up as the fall guy in a murder case.

The case leads Gray to bump into her ex-fiancée and his new fiancée. There's also a whole new side of the supernatural that she gets pulled into while involved. This one still stays super cozy. Nothing too dark or even remotely explicit (thank you).

I loved how the story picked up exactly where book 1 ended. I feel like it reminds me of episodes. I love how we still have this overarching mystery we want to solve but take on these side quests and relationship build with our potential future love interest. I liked how the vampires were written in this book as well. Excited to see how book 3 goes.

I understand that this is the 2nd book in the series, so I may be a little behind but with the first chapter it felt a little off. For instance, it felt as though the author had a checklist of information they wanted to give the reader (i.e. Gray wanting to visit her grandmother, her mother is dead, and she’s looking for her father), and whilst that may seem like a good way to ensure the reader has all that, it didn’t succeed. It didn’t feel natural.

I know the first book’s premise mentions her trying to move past her mother’s death, but even so. Whilst I love when novel(la)s open up with dialogue, I think this one would have been better suited starting off with some background information on Gray–an anecdote, for example, that links to the supernatural guest in front of her.

The writing is also what I call descriptive: it details the actions being done and the agents doing the actions, rather than building up the life of the main character, their history, thoughts, memories, relations to other characters, etc. Additionally, the writing never sets the scene, they just overload facts on what’s happening, where people are, what they’re wearing, etc. Even the dialogue feels wildly unnatural.

This theme continues throughout: an overshare of non-important information. And I find the emphasis on how good Gray is at her job is lazy writing. The actual mystery is not high stakes, so there doesn’t feel like a resolution and the characters involved in the mystery are not explored. No one is interviewed. They find one clue. And that solves the murder.

The characters are basically there to serve the purpose of the plot, if the plot followed the beat’s bullet points. Lucy was irrelevant. Gramma Sugar irrelevant. Heath irrelevant.

Entirely disappointed. It just reads as an author who’s never read a book in their life.

My Thoughts:
Gray Cooper is the main character, and belongs to a family where most have paranormal abilities of one kind or another. Gray is a fun character who runs into her ex who she finds out is mixed up in the murder she’s investigating in an interesting way. . There's also a whole new side of the supernatural that she gets pulled into while involved.Enjoyed reading this fun quick read in one sitting

This is an unusual paranormal murder mystery, the second book in the series. Gray Cooper is the main character, and belongs to a family where most have paranormal abilities of one kind or another - something she finds out in this book.

She and her friend Joe Nebraska have a private investigation business, and have just moved into a new office. Much to their surprise, the first client to walk into the business is a vampire, who thinks he may be framed for a death that took place just outside of his coffee shop. He found the dead man in the alley, and there was no blood - which points to a vampire - which points to him.

This was a interesting read with many twists and turns, and I recommend it. I received an e-arc from Kings of Kontent, Inc. and voluntarily read and reviewed it.

This was a book I impulsively requested because it caught my eye. It definitely is a book that falls into my favorite genre category: urban fantasy/paranormal thriller. I was immediately drawn into the story even though I hadn’t read the first one. Gray is a fun character who runs into her ex who she finds out is mixed up in the murder she’s investigating in an interesting way. This is a fast, quick, and simple read, and while it wasn’t too complicated, it did definitely hold my attention throughout the book. Give it a try. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

In simple words: I enjoyed reading this book. The writing style is engaging and I could easily connect with the characters.

That said, as a murder mystery, it's not particularly something that keeps you on the edge. Although it made the story intriguing, the vampire element could have been a little more captivating or action packed. It felt a bit too …normal. Conrad came across as any other handsome man.
Also, I couldn't find any purpose for Gray’s mysterious background (and her mother's appearance as a ghost).
I loved Gramma Sugar. She was fun.
Overall, a quick engaging read. The plot for the next book in the series has already been set (and that's interesting!).

Having not read the first book in the series, I wasn't sure what I would find.

It's New Years Eve, and Gray takes on a murder case involving a vampire who is being framed for the murder. In the course of solving the murder Gray finds all kinds of interesting things about her client and those around her.

The characters were a joy to get to know. The mystery was interesting, and the humor was a good addition. I liked the way Gray kept rethinking things before she sent the text.
