My worst nightmares are coming true.

I'm Slade's prisoner once again, and everything I thought I knew has been completely destroyed. Trapped in a world where darkness thrives and predatory hunger is king, nothing is safe. My relationship with The Exiled—the demons I've come to love—is as twisted as the magic that binds us.

With my newfound power threatening to consume me, true intentions are revealed across the board, and I must decide between truth and lies, my heart and my head, life and death. I'm Palmer Vale, and I honestly don't know who will survive my story.

Demons in My Head is the thrilling conclusion to the duet that began with Demons in My Bed. This novel contains adult situations, graphic sexual scenes, and MM content. Please check trigger warnings.

ARC Review
⭐️

Britt Andrews is a grifter. Do not give this author any of your money.

I received this book as a paid-for ARC as part of her abortion of a Kickstarter. It was a $6 add-on, that she then turned around and gave to all backers for free.

I don’t know why it took her so long to write this book when a good portion of the plot had already occurred in her Emerald Lakes series. Practically a cut and paste. A complete waste of time.

Update:
Britt is reporting any negative reviews, so if this one vanishes, it’s due to her invading readers’ spaces.

I received this book as an ARC.

Firstly, I went into this totally unbiased about the current BookTok drama. I re-read book 1, and dove immediately into book 2. And I’m disappointed.
Book 1 had some character building, plot twists, and interesting magic aspects. All of those things felt rushed and fell short in this book.

For starters, Palmer and the main MMCs don’t reunite until 55% into the book. This led to lots of fluff, a new MMC that felt odd and unnecessary to the story (oh Felix and Talon have a triplet in their group that wasn’t even hinted to exist in the flashback in Book 1 of the twin’s introduction to King Thane? Okay), and basically a re-read of The Magic of Eternity (from Emerald Lakes) in a new POV. Most of the book is spent dealing with the demon battle, and we’ve already read that. We wanted a NEW STORY.

Some of the POV chapters from the first book (specifically Talon’s chapters) felt way different in book 2. She was trying to match Faris energy for their weird food fight crossover, but it felt like she was just copy and pasting Faris. To be honest, that chapter didn’t even feel like the same writing as Britt’s other books.

We still know almost nothing about Rhodes- but she magically loves him by the end of the book.

The crossovers fell flat to me- you’re telling me we have a bunch of feared psychos and suddenly there’s a familial relationship that was never mentioned before, and Talon (the craziest of them all) is fawning all over Saige from their first meeting? It didn’t feel genuine at all. Points for Britt for at least matching the dialogue exactly between the characters from the previous series to this series (insert sarcastic party popper here). There’s a magic, gaseous, bomb that magically plays a huge role in them winning this epic battle, and they “finally finish it” but we never see any of the MMCs talking about it, talking about the science, working on it, in either books… then they can change said weapon last minute because of ✨dragon fire.✨This powerful weapon quickly felt like a magic cop out that could’ve been explained much more in depth to feel like it was actually real.

Meanwhile, Palmer and her new MMC are dealing with another “big bad” from her past who’s apparently super powerful now. She has no idea how to use her powers, didn’t even know she could heal herself or others until recently, and she’s able to do a bunch more crazy stuff to get out of every situation she’s in? The way every tough situation had a convenient way out felt like fanfic. Oh a magic door appears at this dead end, and even the character wonders why they’d have a magic door that the leader of the gang himself can’t open, but she can. Oh, these powers I’ve never used can allow me to walk through this wall. Please. It would’ve been way better if her specific powers, which were very interesting to me in Book 1, had actually been well fleshed out and explored. Instead we’re just thrown information, expected to just believe the coincidences, and have absolutely zero knowledge about what these supposedly rare and special powers are or where they came from.

Overall, waiting 2 years for this and getting a book that a) I’d already read a lot of the plot of in her previous series, and b) that felt rushed and could’ve used so much more fleshing out was extremely disappointing. I honestly hope she doesn’t write anymore stories in this universe so the love I had for Emerald Lakes doesn’t continue to be tainted by this mess.

One star is generous for this. If I could have left zero stars I would have. Most of the story is full of stuff we have already read. So it’s pointless. Then the story makes no sense things just happen with no explanation. There’s little to no spice considering how this previous authors books are is odd. To me there’s not even much of a relationship between them. Honestly wish I would have saved myself time not reading this.

You can delete reviews all you want Britt, it literally just proves the point. So here’s the shitty review of your shitty book:

It’s awful. It was either written by AI or written in a quick rushed frenzy. It so badly needed an editor and ARC readers that gave her real feedback. The characters were awful, the plot didn’t exist, and the smut was cringe. Most of the book was copy paste from other books she has. And just a stated fact that’s completely irrelevant and has no connection to Britt and her probably AI book: Most AI platforms like ChatGPT don’t let you write smutty scenes. And the biggest complaint from even her fans is the lack of spice in this book compared to others she’s writing. Just stating that for no reason whatsoever.

As I state before: Brit is a con artist. Look her name up on YouTube and have fun going down the rabbit hole.

This was clearly rushed even after having 2+ years from the last book. Over half of the book is full of the battle in Besmot that we saw from Emerald Lakes. To me it seemed like it was used for filler so that there would be more pages to make a higher profit. Most of the story was rushed and made no sense. Things were brushed over, powers that just kept evolving with no warning just to fit the story. I almost DNF many times but I wanted to know the ending. Definitely should have went with my gut to not finish. Add in the allegations surrounding this author I will not be reading anything else by her.

I received an early copy (that I paid for via Kickstarter as an add on) of this book and this is my honest review based solely on the book itself.

Spice: 🌶️.5 (for a why choose where the boyfriends are boyfriends, and MM content is listed in book 2 as a thing...this book didn't have the level of spice that DIMB and Emerald Lakes had. so if you're into a lower spice book (like 3 scenes), you might be into it.
Character Development: ⭐.. the characters read as watered down versions of themselves, and were inconsistent with who they were in book 1. Palmer's PTSD wasn't brought up, even though it was pretty significant at the end of book 1. The character that should've been grovelling was just instantly forgiven.

I was actually really excited to read this book after I finished book 1 back in 2022, but now, post-read, I'm just left feeling super confused and disappointed. Confused because there are overlapping timelines with Emerald Lakes book 5 when Saige and her men are battling with Asrael to free the dragons and the realm from his control, and we got just a small glimpse of The Exiled in that book, with them only appearing in about a chapter and a half... but in this one there were far more interactions between them and the characters from that series, specifically with Sloane and Saige...and suddenly Palmer is there too, when that wasn't mentioned at all. Yes some of it can be explained away that these details weren't important to Saige's story, and that during Asrael's death Saige isn't consciously there... idk it just seemed choppy and inauthentic. I actually went back to MoE to refresh my memory while I was reading and yeah... choppy.

The Slade plotline was mostly glossed over after she escaped with some ghostly help in one chapter. He comes back but extra, but it's no big deal for magic vageen Palmer who just knows exactly how to save the day even though her powers were still developing in book 1.

So if all you're looking for is closure bc that cliffhanger in book 1 was a doozer, go for it. But keep your expectations low.

Let's be clear about something.. I genuinely loved the Emerald Lake series. I loved part one of this duet. I reread part one several times during the last 2+ years because I was hooked waiting for the fate of Palmer and the Exiled.

What I got.... was disappointing to say the very least. It felt shallow. It felt not worthy of the first book. It felt not written from the voice of Britt Andrews to be honest. Maybe that's editing. Maybe that's what time does. Maybe it's something else. I don't know. It just felt different.

I understand the connection of Port Black to Emerald Lakes. They do not exist in separate worlds entirely, and I was excited when the demons made an appearance in Magic of Eternity, but I've already read that story. Why are we just getting a recycled story after waiting two years?!

So, I guess if you've never read Emerald Lakes.. maybe you would enjoy this. Maybe it wouldn't feel like a let down.

I'm thankful KU works like a library because I don't live with the regret of a purchase, just wasted time.

Long awaited sequel from the first book which was released in 2022. No recap from the first book so if you haven't read the first one recently you will have no idea what the author is talking about. First half of this book then jumps into something we have already read in her emerald lakes series book 5 which is very strange? It's just reworded but is the same story so seemed pretty pointless as a fan of emerald lakes and a couple of hours wasted reading it again it was odd. The characters that were heavily written about as the main characters in book one come across as completely different it's as if the author forgot her own writing? Definitely a disappointment after the huge wait for this book sadly I will not be reading this author again due to this as it seems like half of the book was written for page turns. Needs lots of editing as well as there are lots of spelling mistakes and sentences that don't actually make sense. This author used to be a go to read of mine but after this sadly I won't continue to have recycled books and story's

Additionally, her “voice” doesn’t match any of her previous books. I’m not making any accusations, but it is suspect. Lack of character development, weird dynamics, just not what she’s given us previously.

Update
Britt has been engaging in review manipulation, reporting negative reviews and having her Facebook capes leave empty 5⭐️ ratings to skew her numbers. That alone should show you the type of person she is.

If this review disappears, you know why.

I read the first 2 chapters and was dissappointed with the writing. I was expecting more. Considering It been written for over 2 years. It has been very hard to give it a good rating as it does seemed to be rushed and has effected her writing style from previous books she has written and with everything that has gone on and the style of writing and considering alot of the book looks to of happened in the emerald lakes book, and has just been copied over, but I have given it a go. This is just my honest review I haven't enjoyed the time or money I've spent on this all I can do is give this book my honest review about the book. Some may hate this book some may like it thats there opinion but we all have the right to express our opinion just as much if we did enjoy it Unfortunatley I haven't and am very disspointed with this book.

I wanted nothing more than to be completely blown away by this long awaited sequel. Unsurprisingly, the level of disappointment this “conclusion” offered to such an anticipated release pales only when compared to how unbelievably overhyped the wait for it was. This was a very expensive ARC that the author was paid to provide. Do yourself a favor and read literally anything else and don’t fall into the same pitfall as so many others have.

terrible and a waste of time

Utter trash for the two and a half years i had to wait for this garbage. I could only get 66% of the way through and was to angry at how bad it was for the long wait. If she didnt want to put effort in then she should never have written it!

To preface this, I was (/past tense/) one of Britt's biggest fans. I would have supported her indefinitely just because. With that, I'm very aware of Britt's writing style, and very aware of of the characters she likes to write about. I understand that authors may venture out of their norm and/or grow out of what they tend to lean towards, or maybe perhaps I have grown out her child-like writing style. It's all very, very possible, considering this book took over two years to write, and was written within a couple of months, if we are to go off of when she said she really got ahold of the characters again. Either way, this book was a hard DNF for me.

From the way the writing doesn't sound remotely similar to her old writing, it makes me believe other avenues were used to write this for her. Especially considering that her characters have changed significantly since the first book of this duet, with absolutely no hint as to why they have changed. Some of these scenarios do not make sense, either, like they're not possible. Again, it's a make-believe world, but the situations are impossible even in fantasy if there was no foreshadowing as to why. And also considering that this book was "in the works" for over 2 years and suddenly written within a couple short months, I expected way more out of it, just to be extremely disappointed.

Quite frankly, I tried to read this despite being completely ignored and disregarded like days old trash. I'm excellent at dissociating two situations, but the vast difference in writing, changes to characters with no explanations and having the first half of the book essentially be a copy and paste situation, it helped me determine that I will never read a book or sentence this author ever writes again. Everything in between will ensure that I never recommend her and encourage people to never read anything by Britt Andrews.

I don’t even know what to say about this book besides that it was terrible. I was reading some of the other comments and I have no idea what they are talking about regarding drama online or with the authors kickstarter. I read the first book in this duology almost two years ago and I really enjoyed it. The audiobook was great and I was really captivated by the story. But this book was so boring and made no sense. All the characters in this didn’t even feel like the same characters in the first book. The main character’s relationships were not cultivated or expanded at all. The writing felt really weird and like it was written by AI. The only reason I finished this book was because I wanted to get the full picture if I was going to be writing a bad review. I truthfully sat and looked at the wall for 5 minutes after finishing this, wondering what I just read and why I wasted my time.

I wish I could get my time back and read another book I had on my tbr. I grew up in a time when you used to have to wait a year between books that were a series/trilogy. The fact that this book took over two years to write and it was just basically regurgitated nonsense from Emerald Lakes and the first book makes my brain want to explode. I felt there was no rhyme or reason with this book.

To say this book is disappointing is an understatement. If I could give this book a -5 I would. I will probably not be reading anymore from this author as it no longer aligns with the writing style I enjoy.

!!!Actual book review below!!!

I was too curious not to read this since it finally came out. I really wanted to try to be unbiased, but that was quite hard after reading the author's note at the end. The absolute lack of accountability and just "Doing a comeback is hard. My life hard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thanks to those of you who stuck by me when I did perfectly normal human things. Insert insinuations of suicidal ideation". Paraphrasing, of course. This is how a manipulator responds to conflict they created.
It is usually best to express what you've done, why it was wrong, what you have learned, and what you plan to do to make amends when trying to do one whole accountability. There wasn't even an attempt. That's super disappointing because that was the best place to do it.
I would suggest looking up Britt Andrews and making your own assessments. I'm not going to get too into the controversy, but I do think the salt is justified. Bullying and harassment? No. Dead sea levels of salt? Yes.

Actual Review:
Was it worth the wait? Nah.
There was potential here, but it really needed to be extended 2 books. The story was tied up as quickly as possible, which sacrificed a lot of character and relationship growth. Especially with Rhodes and Palmer, plus all the guys' relationships with Jasper.

Disappointing

I enjoyed book 1. The characters were all written well and I knew that there was going to be an overlap with Emerald Lakes but for almost the entire book was the EL plot line. And if you’ve read EL series, you know how it ended. I don’t want a rehash of the whole thing.
It feels like such lazy and rushed writing.
I really think there was such a missed opportunity to have Scorpio be the main villain and have Palmer be in a more vulnerable state thanks to her PTSD and have the MMCs try to help her get past her fears (and grovel). Not suddenly give her new powers out of nowhere just to move this sad plot along.
I don’t even mind the addition of another MMC honestly.

BUT here’s what really really really disappointed me and why I decided to give it a 1-Star is because I HIGHLY suspect that she used AI to helping her write the story. I don’t like to drop allegations like this but when I do, it’s because my suspicions are high. I’m not saying that the whole thing was written in AI but there are chapters that had AI writing. I’ve read a lot of AI written stories and as someone who uses AI have strong pattern recognition skills, I picked up the patterns of AI writing style. From the writing in threes, to the vagueness of descriptions and if there were any descriptions it was bland. And the biggest tell for me is if I’ve read EL and reread book, the writing style and flavour is completely different in this book. This is my personal opinion on why I suspect the author has had AI help. I’d be very happy to change this should my suspicions be proven false.

Very disappointing.

So disappointed after a two year wait. This book was dry and boring. I absolutely loved everything about the first book, but this one was, almost a DNF. As a matter of fact, I skimmed most pages, just to get to the end. Missed the sexual dynamic between the demons and then them with Palmer. Felt emotionless. There wasn't any heart or excitement like the first book. Glad I wasn't part of the kick starter.

This book was a huge disappointment. Palmer and the guys aren’t even together for the first 55% of the book!! 2 intimate scenes the entire book. And the second one was at the end and just felt like it was forced. The plot for half of the book was basically Emerald Lakes, which I liked but I loved the first demons book and was looking forward on expanding about THEIR story. There was absolutely NO character development with the guys like the first book. Rhodes apology was laughable, it happened in like 2 paragraphs and they were magically fine and in love. Also, Rhodes and Jasper’s reunion was also about two paragraphs. She spent wayyyyyy too much time with the crossover Emerald Lakes then actually developing the story she had from the first book. I was really looking forward to this book and I was so so disappointed.

Lackluster finale after a years long wait

I reread book 1, Demons In My Bed, before diving into Book 2 - it had been years since I read it and needed a refresher. I was excited to read Book 2 because I liked the characters and their inter-relationships and wanted to see them fleshed out in the finale, but this one honestly felt like it was written by a different person. So much of DIMB was showing us the ages old romantic relationships between the guys before they ever met Palmer, and in DIMH they were barely even mentioned, and never acted out on page. The spice level was non- existent until the last 3-4 chapters. Some of the MMC didnt have the same feel as they did in Book 1 - Talon's whole obsession with Saige and calling her "milady" was just bizarre and felt weird. I really wished I liked this as much as the first one.

What have I just read?? Read this due to the ongoing drama with the author to see for myself. And my good ness this was terrible! You can clearly tell the author didn’t write this it’s written my ai. I have read all her other books and enjoyed them but this was a mess how are people leaving 5 star reviews??? There is a campaign in her group that her readers are being asked to review on Amazon to get the rating up this is appalling behaviour manipulating reviews and cooking up ways to get page reads. Even some of the 5 star reviews are actually negative but because they are “friends” with the author they are leaving 5 stars. Shameful behaviour. I will never read this author again anyone who can behave like this after waiting two plus years for the sequel isn’t worth the time. I see someone thinks this was going to be a series? It was never marketed as that hence the kickstarter for the and I quote “ soon to be completed duet” that was advertised in 2023 so some of these reviews are fake because it was never going to be more than two books. The author is trying to get as many page turns as possible because the first half of this book was literally book 5 of emerald lakes written in a different view. Why is that? She is using the love of the beloved characters to try and draw people back in. All her other books had feelings from each character these ones now are robotic. The writing is choppy spelling mistakes galore and no flow I wonder what has happened that the author can no longer actual write? Shame that ai was used because a good story is now ruined. The updates she has been writing have more passion than this mess.

I absolutely love emerald lake and demons in my bed, I was so excited for this but it just didn't work for me. Everything was very 1 dimensional, there was no organic growth of characters. Every problem has a very convenient solution. And there was so much that just felt lifted from Emerald Lakes. I already read that, I wasn't trying to read it again.
the author had posted saying she was so excited and needed to give Palmer the best ending, the one she deserves. What was it? SPOILER........................................................,.................,...........
mates, that was the big ending. it felt like a fanfiction of what I expected. maybe if it hadn't been so long since the first one I would have enjoyed it more (?) but unfortunately this just wasn't it.
