The (short) story is not bad ... especially with how the dog (beagle), named Scout, met Maggie, and led her to discover the body of the victim (all while she was only taking a short break from driving her car to another town). Events are more and more Sadly, the "book" had a sloppy edit - more than 4 times phrases had a few words simply repeated entirely (sequence of words, not one word repeated alongside each other). And also a few sentences that started with small caps. Not grave mistakes, okay. But the next one ... But the worst part was that at the end of chapter 8, which was told from detective Sam's perspective, he rescues Scout from the kidnappers, and hand him over to Maggie; while, at the beginning of chapter 9, which was told from Maggie's perspective, she herself finds Scout dumped near a dumpster. This is unforgiving.
