My Boss's Husband

Rate this book
Dominique hates her boss. She secretly wishes the woman would either get laid or go missing. She’s stuck with her gig, because she has finally settled into her dream home—A tiny cottage tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The problem is her new alarm system is touchy. Cortez is her favorite dispatcher. His captivating voice is what her late-night dreams are made of.

Cortez is miserable with his life circumstances. For years, he’s threatened to step out on his own but hasn’t had much motivation until his newfound “friendship” with the alluring caller who still hasn’t figured out how to operate the system he designed. He was forthcoming about his status being complicated, but he’s holding back exactly why that is. If he takes the leap and leaves his wife, it could make both of their lives a living hell.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Ok ok ok from the beginning the chemistry was at a high and there was no long drawn out wait for the connection. Conflicted when we found out something’s but I mean he had permission so can I really be mad? So happy they got their happy ending and the move on drama was at a minimum. Now let me go dive deep in the rest of DENISE catalog…..

Dominique was working a job she loved with a tyrannical boss...
Cortez was stuck in a loveless marriage with seemingly no way out...
A tripped alarm would change everything for both of them...

I was introduced to Denise Essex by a fellow book lover in my Discord server, and I can honestly say that with the inclusion of this book, there's nothing I've read by her that I haven’t enjoyed. This book pulled at my heartstrings, and I had to fight the urge to read the last chapter because I was so anxious to see what would happen next. Anyone familiar with my taste and reviews knows I always say I love when a Black man loves his woman out loud, and Cortez did that—and more.

For my die-hard Black romance lovers, this book would be a great addition to your Kindle or physical library.

All nighter

I was literally up all night reading this book! It is currently 6:23 in the morning, I have to be to work at 8 & I’ve gotten no sleep…

Can we talk about Dom & Cortez? They were meant to be! What’s that saying don’t let their current wife/husband stop you from finding your partner 🤭 well, they didn’t and it was a rollercoaster! One thing Denise will do is make sure the main character has a village and not the FMC & MMC had wonderful support systems. The spicy scenes were beautifully written & the struggles the characters went through were REAL AF!

OK, let me try to get some sleep this morning

✨ Book Review ✨

⭐ Rating: 5/5
🌶️ Spice: 4/5 Whew baby 🔥

Honey, I don’t usually be championing for nobody’s man to get taken—but good grief, Harper didn’t know what she had. I was glad to see her unpack her trauma at the end and realize how she pushed him away and was downright cruel.

What really touched me was how Denise Essex wrote Dominique’s journey. Coming from a background of strong-minded, single Black women, I LOVED seeing Dominique break generational curses. She showed her sister and cousin that not standing up for yourself and not fighting for love isn’t the way to a happy ending. Love ain’t easy, and it sure ain’t a crystal-clear pathway. You don’t stand for anything, of course, but real love requires compromise sometimes.

The emotional growth in this book was everything. When Mekhi sat down with Dominique and had that hard but honest conversation about not wanting to watch her fade away? Whew. And when she admitted she hadn’t created space for him to grieve? That was powerful, raw, and necessary.

—Mr. Cortez and Ms. Dominique. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Whew baby, they were turnt UP. The dominance was giving, the love was even better. Dominique catered to everything Cortez was missing without him ever having to spell it out. And Cortez? He stepped all the way up. It may have taken him a minute, but once he leaned on his trusted circle and their advice, he knew he had finally found a love worth fighting for—the family he’d been yearning for all along.

Final Vibe: Emotional growth, generational curses being broken, and swoony spice all rolled into one. Denise Essex ate with this one!

My Boss’s Husband

This author has a talent for writing out the box stories and I’m here for it every time. Dominique and Cortez had a whirlwind romance that started with a business call and quickly escalated. These two couldn’t keep their hands off each other. After they met in person and started spending time together, I couldn’t wait for them to see their one degree of separation with him being her boss’s husband. I was rooting for them from the beginning especially with seeing how Harper treated them both and how nasty she was with other people as well. That lady was not likable at all and I figured it was nothing but karma that Dominique and Cortez found each other and fell in love and he decided he had enough of his lack of a relationship with his wife. Harper took being married in name only to a whole new level with how she treated and disregarded Cortez so it made me happy to see him get those things like love, affection and appreciation with Dominique that he missed out on in his marriage to Harper.

If you’re a fan of out the box stories, this is a great read and it will have you anticipating what will happen next.

Well...I like

That was a ride...harper was a bitch and I will die on that hill. I get what made her cold but that was not a good enough reason to be the wicked bitch of the east. Good for Cortez and Domonique...they were great for each other. Cortez should have lead with the complication of being married but it worked out for the best. Niques aunts were bitter and it showed I was happy sis hot her cuz and sis together and told them to get out they own way.

she did what needed to be done

I’m not one for the cheating trope but in this case it’s was understandable. I love Dominique and her way of thinking about men like she didn’t let him walk all over her but she let him figure himself out and get his situation under control. Oh and I still wanna fight her aunties old bitter hags

Cortez Cortez phew

Now I know how yall feel about the cheating trope. I get it. But if anyone deserved a happily ever after it’s Cortez and Dominique. Listen, I’ve never wanted to square up with fictional characters before but by page 2 you’ll understand. This book was amazing and I couldn’t sleep until I finished it. Job well done, Mrs. Essex. I cant wait to read what’s next.

Convenience

Healing is imperative to grow and thrive in life. When we are hurting some way we manage to hurt others. Emotionless relationships are detrimental for everyone involved sacrifice for comfort instead of building trust and love.
