After he left active duty, he was a federal investigator for six years. He currently works for the DoW with experimental UAS as a safety officer. Before the Navy, he was a scuba diving instructor in Hawaii and a lab tech conducting algae-biofuels research. He holds a Masters degree in History from Ashland University. This was my 1st book by Ryan Pote, & I was impressed by the writing, original storytelling, & pacing. Despite this being book 2 in the Blood And Treasure series, I had no trouble reading it as a standalone, as MC Ethan Cain’s and Lana Foster’s backstories are woven in, with enough context to understand their relationship history. I’d classify this as a genre-blender of techno-thriller, action-adventure, & speculative fiction that’ll appeal to a wide range of readers!
Told via multiple POVs, following treasure hunter Ethan, journalist Lana Foster, & billionaire Shan Zhang, these VERY different characters keep you completely immersed. I loved following Ethan as he uncovered clues that took him across the globe. Zhang is a morally gray, ruthless, & his catastrophic ambitions are slowly revealed, and I was rooting for his downfall! I also loved how history is woven through an ancient manuscript connected to Marco Polo pointing to a lost city under Antarctica with advanced technology. There are many richly detailed scenes & I felt like I was right there with the characters.
The story is divided into 5 parts with short chapters (some less than a page) with relentless pacing. Between Lana’s investigations, Ethan’s globe-trotting, action scenes, & Shan’s calculating, there’s barely a moment to catch your breath! The final 30% has high-stakes confrontations & nonstop action as Ethan races to stop a catastrophic event. The book ends on a major cliffhanger & I wanted the next book immediately. Hopefully I won’t have to wait a year!!
If you enjoy techno-thrillers, treasure hunts, stories about ancient civilizations, or authors like James Rollins or Dan Brown, you’ll love this series!

The Ghost City is the follow-up and second book featuring protagonist Ethan Cain. Like in his first book, author Ryan Pote takes you on an adrenaline inducing ride in places that it would be handy for the reader to have Google available to see the wonderfully written places he takes you on. In addition, Ryan blends adventure, history, science, and mystery so well that you can't put it down. Like in Blood and Treasure, Ethan is a character that feels refreshingly human and has the scars to prove it. The story is action-packed, descriptive, fast-paced, and written with great detail. Lived everything about this book, even if it leaves a huge cliffhanger at the end. Oh well, that will make the next book a highly anticipated one!! Five big stars!!!

Ryan does it again! Fantastic, fast-paced adventure thriller following his debut novel last summer. Here he builds on his storytelling that made his first book so enjoyable and really knocks it home.
For people new to Ryan, but who have read in the thriller genre before, this is basically Clive Cussler meets James Rollins, with some Jack Carr mixed in. I love action/adventure stories that have a historical bent so immediate this went to the top of my list when I saw he was writing a second book.
He’s two for two in creating compelling plots and interesting characters, both protagonists and villains. He also does a great job with weaving the story together across the chapters, while cutting from arc to arc until they all meet for the climax.
With these two fantastic novels under his belt, I can see why he was tapped to write the Fargo Series from Clive Cussler, and I sure hope he writes more here with Ethan and team, because he sure ends this with a cliffhanger.

Ryan Pote has done it again! In his second outing, Pote manages, for this reader, to not just spin a globetrotting action packed tale, he also leaves me with much to consider in regards to the world we think we know. This time around we're introduced to new characters that quickly grow on you. Through them we learn more about Ethan's past, but it still feels like there's so much more to learn. Ryan Pote has managed to move into my small group of authors I must read immediately and with good reason. I encourage you to also check out his website because he provides some extras that will make you more engaged in his world. That being said, do yourself a favor and read Blood & Treasure, too!

The Ghost City is the second book in the blood and treasure action thriller series by Ryan Pope, I do want to say when I started reading this book I didn’t know there was a previous book and the way the book was written I could tell I was supposed to know things that I didn’t, therefore I went and got the first book in the series. I will read the new book and then finish this book to give a more flushed out review. As of now the book is very intriguing especially with the supernatural aspects and ancient scribes Marco Polo and I can’t wait to see what happens with the reporter and the mad billionaire. I guess either way I will post another review as soon as I’m done with those two which I will start today. although I didn’t finish this book I would definitely recommend it but like me you should also start with the first book this looks like it is going to be a wild ride. #NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview,

Wow. Just wow. If Cussler and Clancy had ever done a collaboration, it may very well have gone something like this. This novel incorporates the same type of "holy s**t" you'd expect from the person of Dirk Pitt or from the insane geopolitical moves of one of President Jack Ryan's enemies. From a search for a lost manuscript of Genghis Khan to an exploration of the inner workings of the Antarctic Ice Sheet to undersea warfare, Ryan Pote won't give you a chance to rest in The Ghost City.
Ethan Cain's return was highly anticipated, but even more so was the setting. The global stakes when discussing the potential collapse of the Antarctic ice sheet were evident very early on, but the antagonist proved to be beyond what anyone thought. There were several jaw-dropping moments where I had to put it down for a brief pause to digest, but the pace kept me either guessing or just hanging on.
Ethan Cain's return was highly anticipated, but even more so was the setting. THE GHOST CITY is terrific! Ryan Pote, in the second of his Ethan Cain series, has outdone himself again in this fabulous international thriller! Survival skills and action scenes in submarines, on and below the Antarctic ice, and in high-tech aircraft, are all well-researched and specific without being over-done; in fact, the balance is perfect. I especially like Pote’s characters; they and the adventures they embark upon are realistic, believable, and relatable. Without revealing the twist, the bad guy’s evil plan is based on real-life struggles for a limited resource you won’t expect. Once you pick it up, be prepared—you are not going to want to put it down. This thriller keeps the accelerator on all the way through. If you like Cussler or Clancy, you’re going to love Pote!

Really liked the second book in the Blood and Treasure series. Spoiler alert: didn't like that Rutledge gets killed. I didn't see the point. With all the other extraordinary things that happened to the characters, I would have thought that he would make it!

His background as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, a federal investigator analyzing prototype aircraft programs, his Master’s degree in History, and his work as a commercial SCUBA diving instructor helped shape some of the scenes and plot ingredients.
The world-building was first-rate and allowed this reader to easily visualize what was happening and where it was happening. The story is full of many heart-pounding moments that kept this read rapidly turning the pages. The sudden eco-disaster in Vietnam immediately pulled me into the story and kept me engaged. The story also caused me to research several subjects. I think it would have been beneficial to have an author’s note to discuss whether certain items in the story were real or fictional.
Overall, this high-octane thriller was intriguing, thought-provoking, and suspenseful. The intensity level is high resulting in a thriller that shouldn’t be missed by thriller fans. I think it would be beneficial to read the first book in the series prior to this one to better understand Ethan’s character progression.

4.15 stars, rounded. Another fast-paced adventure thriller from Ryan Pote, complete with cinematic prose just asking for a movie adaptation.
This is book two in the Blood and Treasure adventure series, which should ideally be read in order. A river disaster leads treasure seeker Ethan Cain to an early journal of Marco Polo setting him out on an adventure to recover a stolen Mongol manuscript, while Antarctica’s ice sheet is on the verge of catastrophic melting. What do these have in common? Zhang Global Construction. And there is only one man fearless enough to figure out why.
We trade jungle gunfights and intense airplane stunts from book one for crevasse-dodging snowmobiles and tumbling submarine fights in this sequel.
I very much enjoyed this adventure thriller. The chapters were short and kept me turning pages to find out what happened. There were multiple threads in the story, some harder to follow than others, but Pote tied them together well by the end. We had some tough losses that made my jaw drop, yet I appreciated that this wasn’t a superhero story where everyone survives through impossible circumstances. Thematically, the book explores topics like ancient wisdom versus modern day production, wealth versus influence, and the echo effect of a single word. Pote has a knack of bringing up questions that linger.
This book doesn’t have the same level of humor and comic relief as the first – probably because I really enjoy Hank and Dale’s one liners, but they only make cameos in this one. This makes for a more serious story, especially as our characters delved deeper into danger. It was also interesting to know the villain so early on in the book. At first, I had a bit of a hard time buying into a global sand empire with enough action-adventure urgency, but it came together. The discoveries uncovered in this book also suggest greater things to be revealed, hinting toward future adventures.
Overall, I’ll toast a Coopers Ale (after rolling, of course) to another page-turning, action-packed thriller from Ryan Pote. I hope he keeps the books coming. I truly believe he has a gift for this type of storytelling.

I’ll never get tired of how Ryan Pote spans the globe with his adventure plots. From the deep desert to the freezing Antarctic, and everywhere in between, get ready for quite the ride!
This book truly took on a search for ancient treasure vibe. I really love how the author can take a thread and weave through the entire storyline. While readers may initially think they are reading distant and unrelated events, Pote ties it all together in the end.
This is the second book in the Ethan Cain series and I’m excited for what’s to come. It does feel like an interconnected stand alone as there wasn’t a huge thread tying the first and second book’s adventures together (outside of having the same characters). I hope we get more Ethan Cain background in the next book! Can’t wait to see what adventure Ryan Pote has in store for us next!

I gave this book 3 stars because there were too many very technical terms that were difficult to comprehend. Otherwise, I would have rated it 4 stars.
The story began with a Chinese construction company illegally taking sand to use for making concrete, as there is a sand shortage. This inferior sand makes inferior concrete, the kind that will crumble with an earthquake or flood. It's far from the Roman concrete that has stood for centuries.
Zhang, the owner of Zhang's Construction Co, has plans to take over the world's economy. He will build things with his inferior concrete. He will then cause the Antarctic ice shelf to collapse and flood the world. All inferior structures will collapse. In the meantime, he is set to rebuild the world with his new concrete. He has built an enormous submarine from which he will watch all the destruction.
The hero of the book, Ethan Cain, should have died at least 3 times in the book, but he miraculously
survives.

This was a VERY, VERY good sequel to Blood and Treasure. So good that you definitely can read it without reading B&T, although as is usually the case, it's better to have some background on the key characters. The pacing of this one is very quick - would've been very easy to read much quicker if life didn't get in the way! Ethan Cain is a VERY strong character and I find myself wanting to learn more about him and continue to see where his life goes from here. Mr. Pote does a great job creating intrigue and mixing it with incredible action scenes. There are moments so tense, it's impossible to stop reading! I will anxiously await more in this series! 4.5 stars if I could, but couldn't quite get to 5 for me.

Ryan Pote has knocked it out of the park again. Rich with history and filled with non stop action and adventure. Ethan Cain is the epitome of hero, a modern day John Wayne. Cain never relents. It’s a race against time. Ryan Pote is a true gift to the action thriller genre.

In the past, he suffered severe burns over most of his body and every minute consists of making sure his body can handle his new reality because his skin is no longer there or doesn't work as it should. But Cain has things he wants to do and he's been diagnosed with NAFOD (no apparent fear of death) so no official organization will want him on their payroll. No problem, Cain runs his own company with the best of gadgets and hardware and he employs talented people he can trust.
Now there is a billionaire who is willing to bring humanity to its knees with his diabolical plan. So many have already died because of what this man has done but his future plans will kill millions more. What he is in the process of doing will give him world wide power over all and he'll let nothing stop him.
Cain and company know things are happening that have no explanation, such as massive waterways drying up and humongous sinkholes swallowing everything in areas where these things should not be happening. Cain's girlfriend (are they on or off right now?) is ahead of Cain when it comes to the investigation and once Cain knows what is going on, his job is both a rescue mission and an attempt to stop life as we all know it from getting very, very bad.
Nonstop action, not a moment to feel like the future is safe, and a man who has no fear of death, gives us for a story that makes me so very glad I'm reading it from the safety of my home. This story deals with a real life type of theft of which I was not aware and I'm always amazed at all the ways I learn for ruthless and cutthroat humans to put so many others in danger.
