Thane MacPhearson came back from the Napoleonic Wars as a hero, but he’s haunted by the memories of the men he couldn’t save, especially his friend Brodie Ross. When he meets Brodie’s twin sister back in Edinburgh, he can’t believe the capricious, outspoken, headstrong lady is related to his friend. Thane can’t stand Catriona…but he also can’t stop thinking about her.

Catriona Ross hides her grief behind a smile, focusing on her quest to gain equal rights for women to prevent herself from falling into despair. Cat thinks Thane is as heartless as he is handsome, and she resents that he lived while her brother died. If she had her way, she’d never see him again!

But when someone takes a shot at Catriona, Thane pulls her out of harm’s way…and then proceeds to take over her life, sweeping her away to his Highland estate until he and his men can figure out who’s trying to kill her. Though Cat rails against Thane’s high-handed tactics, she can’t deny that the longer she’s near him, the more she dreams of his touch. Can she live happily ever after in the Highlands?

It’s hate at first sight; they’re fire & ice, yet, somewhere between verbal sparring and saving her life, a spark ignites. They can't stand each other, but they can't bear to stay apart either...

Catriona – a spitfire 25yo bluestocking and women’s rights champion, determined never to marry, and still mourning the loss of her mother, brother and dog.
Thane – a brooding 32yo Highland Lord and army captain barely back home from the continent, haunted by guilt, bound by a promise to his late friend.
Their link: Cat’s twin Brodie – he was one of Thane’s men that didn’t come home.

An Edinburgh ball collision that ends with an attempt at Cat’s life, leads to Thane and his men becoming her self-imposed bodyguards – in honour of her brother... why else? – but caging a free spirit proves harder than expected, and when a second attempt nearly succeeds, Thane whisks her away to his remote Highland estate.

It’s a spirited enemies-to-lovers mixed with emotional trauma, seasickness, stubbornness, insatiable lust, unconditional loyalty and feisty female relatives. The villain hides in plain sight, but their true deviousness stays murky till the very end – most brilliantly done!

Of course all C&T’s heated debate leads to scorching kisses. With every fight their resistance withers away a little more, and our staunch spinster discovers her inner wanton... some yummylicious steam coming your way 😉
But truth will out. Thane holds his own – barely, the poor bloke nearly breaks – but this is where I was a little disappointed by Cat. She’s rash, immature, reckless and even a little selfish especially considering their untraditional HEA. I feel a little sorry for steadfast Thane, he deserved more, but🤞🏼hopefully he’ll turn up victorious in the next books.
So, I’m on the fence about Cat, but that’s completely overruled by my curiosity for Thane’s wingmen – a dashing crew of colourful characters I cant’ wait to meet in the next books!
