“Wait.”
I’m not in the habit of taking orders. Actually, if you ask anyone who knows me, they’d tell you I lack basic listening skills. By choice.
But something about the smooth command—maybe how I know who said it, even before I turn around—makes me pause.
When I spin on my heel, they’re all watching. Shaggy looks concerned. The fellow female appears peeved I’m still in near proximity. Most of the guys are checking out my cleavage.
Not him. He’s focused on my face, a lofty, irritated expression on his.
“What, Cap?” I ask, then smirk and glance at the towel-wearing guy slouched beside him. “Is your buddy Bottle?”
His friend grins.
Cap doesn’t. He crosses his arms, biceps bulging in a way that’s intimidating and, unfortunately, a little impressive. He has the lean build of a swimmer—broad shoulders and a tapered waist—but the confrontational stance of a boxer.

2.75💫 I wanted to like this so much because I love the series so far and Second Chance is my trope but the way this was paced was just not it for me. We spent too much time with the couple as teenagers with excessive spicy scenes. The MMC spends half the book sleeping with her and being rude and it lasted too long for a redemption arc in my opinion

This story caught me off guard in the best way. What starts as a summer romance slowly deepens into something aching and sincere, and I felt every step of that shift. I loved how Wren grows into herself, letting go of who she thinks she should be and leaning into who she truly is. Sawyer’s grief feels heavy and real, shaping his choices without ever overtaking the story.
Even with how undeniable their pull is, grief and restraint create a constant ache between them, and the angst hums through every moment they share. The chemistry is strong, but it is the longing and emotional tension that kept me invested. The writing is gentle and atmospheric, letting emotion lead instead of spectacle. By the end, it left me a little undone. It is tender, reflective, and full of heart, and I already cannot wait to read the next book.

There are not enough words to describe how much I love this series. It is one of my all-time favourite second-generation series, and I have loved every moment spent in the Kensington universe. I was practically crawling out of my skin in anticipation for Wren and Sawyer’s story, ever since reading their first chapter at the end of Anti-Hero, and for all my angsty romance lovers, you’re going to adore this.
I honestly don't know how Charlotte does it every single time , like how?! There isn't a book of hers you could put in front of me that I wouldn't devour and love. To think I even tried to slowly read and savour this, but ended up reading half in one sitting, which was well worth the lack of sleep.
To preface: I'm utterly obsessed with the colour scheme that Charlotte is going for with the Kensington kids' books; the pink is obviously my favourite. I have a feeling that Rory's book will be purple, maybe a soft lavender colour, perhaps? That said, I highly suspect who the next couple will be about; the teasers were so much fun, I can't wait to head to Harvard Law!
Where do I actually begin?! There's so much I love about this; I loved Wren, she's such a perfect blend of her parents, probably more like Hannah when she first met Oliver. Don't even get me started on seeing them as parents lmao; I'll come onto them in a bit.
When Charlotte hinted that Wren and Sawyer had already met way back in False God, I was intrigued how this was going to pan out. They meet when they were 17 and quickly embark on what is supposed to be a Summer fling, but ends up last a few years. It's your typical situationship, which most teenagers experience at least once. Teenagers are rash, dramatic and tend to act without thinking, and Charlotte portrayed that really well in Wren and Sawyer; they're not perfect, it's messy, and that was the beauty of it, you really saw these two characters grow from teenagers into, young adults; who are both on very different paths. They don't run in the same social circles, and yet they're constantly running into each other; they're undeniably affected by each other, while trying to figure what their next steps are. Their romance was very much a slow burn, despite their attraction very much leading that, especially as they got to know each other better, and I loved seeing that over the span of five years.
I think Sawyer is Charlotte’s most jealous MMC to date, and I LOVED IT, honestly there's nothing I love more than a jealous, down bad mmc!
I can't not mention Hannah and Oliver, seeing them as parents was surreal, and so wholesome, I absolutely loved them and their story, from their series, so yeah, I really was in my feels over them. I just know that Oliver has few grey hairs from Wren though!😂 I can't not imagine Oliver not being a girl dad!
I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, this series has truly been such a delight to read. Getting to see familiar faces again while also spending time with the Kensington children has been such a joyful experience. There’s something so special about following the next generation, watching them grow and fall in love, while still feeling that connection to the characters from the first series.
It’s so easy to get swept up in this world, I really wish it weren't fictional. This series has quickly become one of my comfort reads, and honestly, most of Charlotte’s books are. There’s just something about her storytelling that feels warm and familiar, and so addictive, too.

I’m pretty sure I would read anything C.W writes. I absolutely adore her books 99% of the time. I made the mistake of starting this at 9 pm and was up until 1 am 😩 I could not put it down. That being said….. I have read better by her. I am so conflicted on how to rate this. While it is almost exactly what I expect from her books, I wish it had gone a bit differently.

Wren and Sawyer meet when they are 17 while she’s on vacation in the Hamptons. She snuck off to one of the secret local spots to cliff dive. One look at each other and that’s all it took.
The book spans over 5 years. Most of the book takes place while they are 17/18 and there’s a 2 year time jump.
Most of their interactions go like this - greeting (maybe), sex, he’s rude to her, she leaves only to seek him out again.
WREN DID ALL THE CHASING!!! THE WHOLE TIME!!! It was honestly embarrassing. The only thing that kinda made up for it is she had him thinking she was hooking up with other people in between.
Barely 24 hours after meeting she decides he’s going to take her virginity 🙄 meanwhile he’s a 17 year old boy who’s slept with who knows how many girls… why are all teenagers written as so sexually experienced like they are children still!!!! They don’t all need to be getting with everyone with a pulse!!
Anyway he fucks her at a party, in his friend’s room against his wall. Once he realizes she was a virgin (the next day) we get the “wouldn’t have done it if he knew” like bro you’re 17 year olds god forbid!!!!🙄🙄🙄🙄
It got real old watching Wren chase his ass. It would have been fine if it was a true summer romance and they only saw each other a few months a year but NO she makes the drive to the Hampton’s multiple times to see him. And all he does is fuck her and then is rude so she leaves. Every. Time.
He was scared of his feelings, thought it was better this way so once she got bored of him it didn’t hurt so bad blah blah blah. This goes on for YEARS.
The only saving grace for me liking him is that he never so much as looked at another girl after meeting Wren. From the first night they met & kissed there has been no one else. Even when he thought she moved on he never even attempted. 🙌🏼

I am forever a C.W. Farnsworth fan. Something about her books really speaks to me in a way that other books in the same genre often do not. This is the third book in the Kensington Next Generation series. Initially, I was hesitant to read the original Kensington series because they are billionaire romances, which has not always been my favorite trope. I am so glad I trusted my gut, because now I cannot get enough of this family. One of my favorite parts of this second-generation series is getting to see the characters from the first series and watch their stories continue.
This is a summer romance between a wealthy girl and a working-class boy, set during the high school and college years. Wren is visiting the Hamptons when she meets Sawyer. They share a connection that brings them back together again and again over the course of five years. From the very first moment they meet, their on-page chemistry is palpable. Both are wracked with insecurities, and we are taken through the dance of “will they or won’t they” time and time again as they try to figure out what they are truly fighting for.
I read about 75 percent of this book in one sitting, staying up until nearly 2 a.m. The only reason I did not finish it that night was because it was a work night. Even the next day, while waiting for a chance to pick it back up, I was tense with anticipation, eager to see how their story would unfold. When I finally reached the end, I felt a deep sense of relief and satisfaction because everything came together exactly as I had hoped.
These characters are beautifully messy. They have built walls around themselves and keep forgetting to leave the gate open for the other person. That dynamic creates incredible tension and longing, as each of them goes through periods of believing their feelings are unrequited. Even when side characters point out how foolish they are being and how clearly they care for each other, Sawyer and Wren still bury their heads in the sand, afraid to confront what might be right in front of them. Their fear of rejection and vulnerability feels real, and it makes every step forward feel hard won and meaningful.
I am completely enamored with this book and already counting down the days until the final two books in the series. I would guess that Rory’s story is next, and if the peek we have gotten of her so far is any indication, the banter will be electric. C.W. Farnsworth has firmly secured her place as one of my favorite authors. She consistently delivers emotional depth, compelling chemistry, and characters who feel authentic and flawed in the best possible way. This series, and this family in particular, has become one I return to not just for the romance, but for the comfort of revisiting characters who feel almost real. If the remaining books are anything like this one, I know I am in for an unforgettable finish.

I don't want to sound dramatic....but it's me...so I'm going to. This is the best book I've read all year. And I know what you're thinking: "Stephanie..it's only February" But yall...I've read over 30 books already this year...and THIS is the one! If you've followed me for any amount of time, you know that Come Break My Heart Again will always be a top read for me. If you've read that book, and loved it, this is a must read. I'm still walking around dazed over the absolute masterpiece of this book.

Wren and Sawyer meet when they're just 17 and still trying to figure out who they are and what they want in life and in love. There is such an undeniable pull between them, right from the start. This book relies heavily on miscommunication but I think for the plot it works- we start off when they're 17 and end when they're 21. They're also unsteady in the definition of their relationship and both are constantly unsure of how much of their feelings to reveal in order to not get hurt, so again the miscommunication works. Frustrating at times but definitely believable.
I adored these two. I sort of wanted to knock their heads together because it's so obvious to everyone around them (and to the reader!) how obsessed and in love they are, but they somehow don't see it.
I loved how we get to see that they're constantly on each other's minds. Even when they haven't spoken in ages or are states and continents away from each other, they're always thinking of each other. The letters between them were so sweet, I do wish we got to see a few more.
As ever my biggest complaint would be that we didn't get to see them in an actual relationship for very much. It was such a long and winding road to get them to just BE together that I wish we got chapters and chapters of them just dating and being in love

4.5⭐️ this is angsty and spans 5 years, yet felt like the blink of an eye that I read it. The banter and back and forth between Wren and Sawyer felt very fun and natural for the ages they were at different points in the book. They're younger characters which makes the off and on miscommunication make sense. I loved they way they quietly loved each other even though it took them a few years to figure out how they would fit into each other's lives. The ending and conclusion had tears streaming and lots of sniffles! I'm a huge fan of second generation books and this was no exception! I can't wait for the next installment in the Kensington's series!

I will always have a special place in my heart for the Kensingtons, and I truly didn’t think anything could top Scarlett and Crew’s story—but this one might just take the cake.
I love a billionaire romance (among many other tropes), but I especially loved how it was portrayed here. The FMC holds the fortune without it becoming her entire personality, which felt refreshing. This story felt incredibly relatable—at least for me—as it explores the tension between what the heart wants versus what the world expects. Add in a coming-of-age, first-love, angsty storyline, and I was fully locked in.
While Cruel Summer is a romance at its core, it really leans into teenage angst. Watching Wren and Sawyer slowly—and I mean slowly (over five years)—come to terms with their feelings for each other, all while navigating the chaos in their own minds, made the story feel raw and real.
If I had to summarize this book in a few words, it would be: the Hamptons, the letters, and an old pickup truck.
Farnsworth kept me on my toes and had my jaw on the floor more than once, while also making me kick my feet whenever something cute happened. Once again, she delivered a book I couldn’t put down until I finished—and I really hope this isn’t the last we see of the Kensingtons.
Overall highly recommend this book - I would recommend reading Real Regrets before, but not necessary.

Messyyyyyy. Devoured this whole book in a day but this story was exhausting.
Firstly, are there teenagers actually partying that much????? I know I was incredibly boring in high school but goddamn.
It’s been long enough that I don’t remember any of the details of any of the other stories in this universe so all the other names were kinda useless to me but whatever.
I liked sawyer, he would’ve gotten me too. These two kids were actually just so mean to each other for years. I know they were miserable. Gus is a real one because I know it would be hard to stand by your friend in a “relationship” like what was going on here.

Really wasn't prepared to read a romance that was about highschool students. I forgave most of their indecision and miscommunication because of the ages, but I still found it hard to get into.
Immature characters aside, I like reading about the Kensingtons because of the wildness of their unattainable wealthy lifestyle. Putting Wren in a service job and hanging out with kids who have to pay for college gave me the ick. Like she was cosplaying being a regular, lower-middle class human.

It pains me to say that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I hoped. I love the Kengsington family, and I was excited to read this book, but I just couldn’t love it.
Wren and Sawyer had great chemistry, but the truth is that they had too much miscommunication for my taste, and the whole push and pull relationship was not my thing.
I did like many parts of the book, and I always enjoy the author’s writing style, and that’s why the rating isn’t lower.
I’m excited to read Rory’s book!

there's just something about reading rich people drama and their love stories that C.W. Farnsworth absolutely nails every time. I loved Wren & Sawyer so much. -1 star because I felt like Wren was chasing him for so much of the book, and I'm not quite sure if he groveled enough for her. I did not anticipate how long this would be drawn out, but I enjoyed their drama & constant fighting (in an entertaining way, it started to get a bit frustrating near the end)
-1 star also because Wren's ex-boyfriend's name was... Third? Huh???? Was he like Benton the Third and that was his nickname? Or did his parents hate him and called him Third because he's not even worth Gold or Silver (got 'em).
I'm guessing the next book is Rory's which I'm so excited about!! I was very nervous I wouldn't care for the second generation of Kensington books because I adored Scarlett and Crew, but I've been convinced.

(I'm lowkey wondering if it's the book or me cause this is my 4th consecutive 2 star rating book i think?😭)
a lot of choices I wasn't a fan of considering this is second gen but also because the romance and couple weren't my favourite. perhaps i would have loved it if it was a bit more fleshed out AND not part of a second generation! But alas, false god remains the best of the series. and I've got high hopes for the next one but I do regret how this one turned out. even anti hero was better because of the conflict b/w kit and crew but this one felt very surface level, made worse by not having a meeting scene with in laws. just very underwhelming. not to say sawyer and wren weren't excellent, i just didn't think there was much for me to sink my teeth into. but this is a very great read for lovers of situationships, second chance, teenage love, and summer fling 🙂↕️

I was patiently awaiting Wren and Sawyer’s story, and I wasn’t disappointed. Their journey brought on so many emotions, much like the roller coaster metaphor Sawyer was stuck on. 😂
Wren and Sawyer meet in the Hamptons when they’re 17. Their story spans 5 years and 2 continents (+ more with the epilogue!). With it comes the messiness that is falling in love as a teenager and the uncertainty of wondering what you’re doing in life and where you belong. The raw emotions, insecurity, angst, and banter brought everything to the table for this story to flourish. I love how the letter writing really shaped their journey and connection through the years. The moments apart made me love their moments together that much more.
There were parts that seemed rushed or just a bit disjointed with the time gaps/lapses. I think it happened twice where I had to stop and ask, “wait how old are they now? Where in the time line are we??”. But not enough for me to lower the rating. I think the 0.5 ⭐️ missing for me is really the substance. This book doesn’t have as much as her others, or something just seemed slightly different in the way it was written (maybe it was the age of the characters since this is the first book with teenage MCs of hers in a while?). But nevertheless, I enjoyed the heck out of it!
Charlotte has done it again, and I’m not surprised in the slightest. Her books continue to be my favorites, no matter the trope. Her writing makes any story feel so real and allows you to connect to the characters and their world effortlessly. You never want it to end!

Wren and Sawyer gave us everything, it’s a whole journey where the author gave us all the raw feelings, the perspective of two almost adults navigating their feelings even though it was suppose to be just a summer fling, making mistakes because of their insecurities, hurting each other, growing up, healing and coming back over and over again because at the end the of the day they just made sense for each other event though they are opposites in everything.
This one was one of my most anticipated books of the year and the author didn’t hold back. I love all the building up of the book, how you get to relate to the main characters. I love how Wren it’s the perfect combination of Hannah and Oliver. I love that Wren made the effort to get to know all Cap’s friends including Cami. And I love the mentioned of characters from previous books.
This book show us how no matter if two people are completely opposites when it’s meant to be it’s meant to be.
Can’t wait to see what the author has for future books!!

MAJORLY obsessed with this book! wren & sawyer are up there with crew & scarlett and lilli & charlie as some of my fave couples from this world. i can’t quite put into words how much i loved this story 🥹
this was such a fun opposites attract + summer fling but oops it spans years + “it was always you” + hamptons summer romance. it was sunshine in a book! honestly, i think the setting, the way this story oozed warmth, and the sheer number of butterflies wren & sawyer’s romance gave me (as a reader!!) made this book a 10/10 experience.

I think my favorite C.W. Farnsworth books are the ones when the characters are either in high school or college. She writes that young, innocent, and unbroken love so well. Wren is in high school when we meet her, she is in the Hamptons and wants to cliff jump, when she runs into Sawyer aka “Cap.” And from their first meeting, you can tell there is an instant connection and a crush, and the way it’s written just shows how beautiful a teenage crush is. These two end up circling each other and sleeping with each other all summer while neither is willing to admit their feelings or that they want more, so when Wren leaves for the city, everything is over. Well until Wren writes him a letter, and their cycle continues.
I loved the summer when Wren gets the waitressing job, I loved seeing her interact with Sawyer with his friends and works and just is living life. Sawyer and Wren were so happy and falling in love, thinking about how they will tell each other and I was obsessed with them. I hated when it all came crashing down, but I did not mine the how, it worked so well and kept up the family issues we’ve seen in all the Kensington books which I found was so great to see a throwback and I loved that.

ARC Review 4.8 ⭐️
Nothing about Wren and Sawyer makes sense: she’s the daughter of a billionaire and his dad is the star of a town scandal. Despite their different backgrounds, the sparks and connection are instant for these two. While they bicker and banter trying to resist one another one thing remains true, there is something different about their connection. Set over the span of 5 years, you will experience the push and pull of Wren and Sawyer navigating creating their own path in the world, self-discovery and overcoming fear. This story is absolutely incredible and I just loved the way these two repeatedly choose each other. The longing, angst, and the wonder of when Wren and Sawyer will get together was just stunning. It takes a lot to make me cry, but Charlotte definitely made me sob in the last half of the story. This story is full of Easter eggs from previous novels but can definitely be read as a standalone. If you need to get out of a reading slump, I would highly recommend Cruel Summer. This book will be available on February 24!

I'm the first to admit I'm not usually a big fan of slow burn books but this one? I wanted (no, needed) more!
I have been lucky enough to receive all the books in this series as ARC copies and have gone in blind each time (Charlotte can do no wrong) but this is by far my favourite from the series so far!
Dual POV's where you get to see each of their battles and feelings develop & unfold is *chefs kiss*
I had to keep reminding myself of Wren & Sawyers age as they seemed more mature at times! A cruel Summer is the perfect way to describe this read but a perfect ending with one of the best rollercoasters throughout ❤️

Every time I finish a CW Farnsworth novel, I declare it as my new favorite. I swear, Anti Hero was my favorite…untiiiiil I got my hands on Cruel Summer. I’m a SLOW reader but I CONSUMED this, I couldn’t put it down. I wish I could read it again for the first time.
The story of Wren and Sawyer spans across 5 years; 5 years or summer angst and a rollercoaster of emotions. The constant push and pull of their relationship draws you in, you’ll be eager to reach the conclusion and see where the characters land.
Cruel Summer tackles the topics of growing up and discover your identity amid the pressures put forth from your own internal thoughts and family. This novel is a must read if you love a slow burn filled with yearning, tasteful miscommunication, the billionaire lifestyle, and summers in New England.
