The prologue was just brilliant! Strong, vivid, explicit, and a tad scary as heck! It's a Heather trademark, drawing me immediately into the depth and heart of her story, that has me wrapped around her finger? prose? storytelling? Hells, ALL of that! This author is addictive, and I'm on a high every time I read any of her books. I love all of Heather's books but do you have ANY idea how much I'm obsessed with Krieg and Stacy??? With this superb cast??? Well...if you don't... here's a glimpse...

This book was very emotionally charged, I'm not sure who threatened to tear my heart asunder the most. There's firstly Stacy, addicted to Dr Pepper and Krieg, she's got so much grit and spunk, she's tough and caring, she's determined, she has a past so traumatic, yet that doesn't define her, but her shields are up and secured so tightly, she takes sloooow to a new level. Amber had the right of it, a glacier moves faster. Seeing her lower her guard, overcome her deep-seated inhibitions, was just beautiful! Then there's Krieg, oh my SIGH Krieg! He gets my heart racing whenever he appears, he might be deadly but his inner core is gentle, sweet, considerate, respectful. Which he is with Stacy, never pushing, always supportive, vulnerable, he literally wears his heart on his sleeve, so, yes, very sigh...Then we have Loki. Awww, my chin wobbled when Loki... when he... when he....yeah, very emotional scene, my heart was wrung out like a rag! He's the sweetest, snarkiest, funniest 'bird', shhh... don't tell him I called him that, this would be his response '‘Not bird. Caladrius!’ ‘Same thing.’ He made a derisive sound. ‘Like calling unicorn horse.’ Add Ji-Ho, Stacy's mum, brothers and their partners, the mystery and solving of it and it's an explosive read! When Krieg said, ‘Sweet, delicious, and dangerously addictive.’ I could taste it all, and not only the drink...

I was in seventh heaven at the advancement of the romantic spark between Stacy and Krieg, Stacy finally accepting she was all in. Ms Harris had me all hot and bothered, plenty of times and heck, this author even managed to make drinking Dr Pepper so hot, I thought I'd have to douse the flames that erupted! A ceremony at the Ogre den had me simultaneously giggling and doing a fist pump, I gotta admit, I was as proud of Stacy as Robbie was. But, a trademark of this author is, 'don't rest on your laurels' because, my guts were ripped out of me the next minute, Stacy's worst nightmare comes to haunt her. OMG NOOOOOOO! Hell was this intense! Hell was this tense! Hell was this scary as shoot! But, instead of overwhelming distress, we get to see the growth of Stacy's emotional state, her confidence in herself, her refusal to give in, too gorgeous for words. I'm not sure who almost brought me to MY knees, Hanlon and Maktel, or Robbie. All I do know is that I had to blink several times to clear my vision.

Heather knows exactly which buttons to press and when! I have called Heather the red herring queen, and I stand by that. What I assume, what I perceive, is thrown out like dirty water, and when it clears, I'm like, 'oh I'd never have guessed!' Not only do I get a riveting read, I get to 'deal' with real issues, ok, Heather does but she does so with the utmost delicacy, words such as these show how sensitivity , 'You’re bleeding on the inside. Doesn’t make it any less dangerous. In fact, internal bleeding is downright deadly.’ And we can all learn something from these words, ‘It’s okay not to be okay,’ With tears threatening often throughout, this read, this book, was one of the most emotional books I've read. But far from doom and gloom, this was more of a 'clutch the book to my chest', revelling in the positivity Heather spins, delighting in the highly comical banter, warmth filling every crevice in me with the romance, immersing myself in the fabulous fast pace and the incredible storytelling of this incredible author. Surprise after surprise, twist after twist, my adrenaline ebbing and flowing throughout this very thrilling read. I really love the accurate 'detective-ing' and the police procedure, it's like watching the series CSI, thrilling, informative, compelling and super cool.

This book has a much more serious tone, there's a lot less humour and a heck of a lot of heart. There are too many poignant moments to mention but frek and buggerations, this read undid me so many times, it's still brewing inside me. The raw emotions of SO many scenes reverberate, the action was off the charts unprecedentedly terrifying and heart in throat. I probably will sound like a broken record, but THIS book was not only phenomenal, it was the best Heather read, to date....

ARC Provided by Heather G Harris in exchange for honest review.

Arcane Justice is book 3 in the Other Detective series by Heather G Harris, and it continues to impress as much as it's predecessors. Stacy, along with her foul-mouthed Caladrius sidekick Loki, is called to the murder of Symposium representative Lord Theodore Marlow, where it is discovered that he has been gored with ogre tusks - instantly incriminating High King Krieg (who just happens to be Stacy's partner) and his clan. But all is not as it seems, and it is down to Stacy to prove that not only were the ogres not responsible, but that there is a far deeper motive for framing them than appears.

In my eyes, Heather G Harris can do no wrong, and this is another slam dunk hit set in her Other Realm. This instalment sees somewhat of a softening to Stacy, who, from the very nature of her job, is a hard woman. Her interaction with an angry female ogre is sarcastic, full of sass, and absolutely hilarious, and her complete lack of hesitation when dispensing justice is breathtaking in its confidence. We've seen her develop bonds with Krieg and Loki, and Arcane Justice sees both of them deepen and go that bit further, leaving you with a glorious warm feeling in your stomach. Her determination to see justice for any of her victims, and also her late father, is absolute, but she also begins to acknowledge that things exist outside of work that she should be seizing with both hands. I particularly loved her interactions with Ji-ho, who is suffering from the trauma he went through in the previous novel. She understands his PTSD from her own previous experiences, and is able to talk to him, get him starting to open up, to acknowledge what he has been through, and all whilst accepting his limits and knowing when and when not to push him. She is also quick to ensure that nobody tells Laura that her baking is terrible and embarrass her. Her empathy is strong, and her instinct never lets her down. She is rapidly becoming my favourite of Harris' heroines (although I say that with every spin off from her Other Realm!)

The formula with the Other Detective novels is to introduce a murder, implicate someone, quickly discover that it can't be them, and then go on to prove why - but in doing so, unearth more information key to solving the mystery boiling away in the background - who murdered Stacy's father. It is tried, tested, and works perfectly. There are also links with parts of the Other Realm that are mentioned in different series, like the Black Tourneys, which open the door for even more clever plotting. The pacing is steady throughout, with spikes of action followed by clever procedural work, before building to a crescendo in the final act. The epilogue has ignited a fear for ******** that I will leave me climbing the walls until the next book drops! Who are the people hidden behind random letters? I've got no doubt we've met them along the way - and I'm itching to find out just what their ultimate goal/intentions are, and the reason they don't want ******** to speak to their contact.

It was a joy as always to see Other Witch Amber DeLea and Bastion pop up, particularly with Amber imparting some information that really changes some of the relationships in this book. Lucy Barrett was also mentioned in dispatches, so I'm hoping we get to see her in the next book (and Greg Manners. Boy do I love a bit of Manners!). There was a mention of Emory too, and that would also be a hell of a cameo for the next book!

Arcane Justice is a magical and inventive police procedural novel that continues to barrel down the highway to solving the ultimate case for Stacy, whilst developing bonds and relationships that leave you smiling. It is studded with humour and joy amongst darker moments, always leaving you with a sense that whilst you've just read a murder novel, you don't feel heavy. It's another fantastic addition to the Other Realm, and I cannot wait for Brutal Justice to drop!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

What a brilliant book.

Absolutely one of the best authors out there. Thrilling urban fantasy, fantastic characters and a great mystery.
The interactions between characters are natural and it adds so much depth to the story. Stacy is such a bad ass. Strong enough to be the mate of the king of Ogres. Then there's Loki, how can you not love Loki.

Kindle.

Unfortunately, this ended on a cliffy. Therefore, I retracted 1 star.
I do not like cliffhangers.

Other than that, this was Harris quality.

- and now I want a calidrius named Loki...!
(I hope he gets a girlfriend in the next book🤞🏻)

Arcane Justice, the third installment of Heather G. Harris's 'The Other Detective' series, is an absolute blast. Narrated brilliantly by Alyse Gibbs, this action-packed adventure is teeming with hidden powers, secret societies, and heartfelt romance. It’s a captivating read that offers so much more than your average urban fantasy.

This novel is a powerhouse of raw emotion. At its center is Stacy, a protagonist defined by her grit and spunk; she is a perfect blend of tough and caring. While her traumatic past has left her with heavy shields, it doesn't define her—though it certainly makes her "slow burn" romance with Krieg feel earned. Speaking of Krieg, he is the ultimate heart-stealer. Despite his deadly nature, his inner core is remarkably gentle and respectful. He is a constant, supportive presence for Stacy, wearing his heart on his sleeve without ever pushing her boundaries.

Then there is Loki, the snarkiest and funniest "bird" (or Caladrius, if you're asking him) in the realm. His journey in this installment is particularly moving, as we see him overcome physical frailty to find a new level of strength through his bond with Stacy.

From a brilliant, vivid prologue that draws you in and never lets go, the story hits the ground running. As Stacy digs for the truth behind a high-stakes murder, she continues her mission to protect her found family. The mystery is gripping, but the true highlight is seeing the romance between Stacy and Krieg finally reach its peak of acceptance. It is a thrilling, heart-wringing ride that proves Heather G. Harris knows exactly which buttons to press to keep readers hooked.

Audio: Heather’s direction is impeccable, and Alyse Gibbs brilliantly brings the author’s vision to life. The character voices are crisp, distinct, and perfectly suited to the cast. I am thoroughly enjoying 'The Other Detective' audiobooks and highly recommend this series in any format.

Stacy is back with a whole host of Bada bing, Bada BOOM!! My nails are destroyed & I'm fairly sure I'll never look at a can of Dr P the same way 😅
HGH could possibly have the GREATEST imagination in the ENTIRE universe, Honestly there's some kind of supernatural/other talent going on here? Coz thats the only explanation as to how 234 pages can get me through an entire range of emotions, a large bar of dairy milk (the mini snowballs one....fit!), four cans of Irn bru, two buckets of tea & my fingertips (along with my nails) 👀
I'm not kidding about the emotional thing either!! From descriptors of Pant pissing terror to Channings green-ness to PTSD & trauma to forging bonds & life changing decisions ....... this one is a ride & a half!!!

The other series in this universe all have four main books - and a couple of short stories - so if this follows the same pattern, then Arcane Justice is the penultimate book of The Other Detective series.

In this one a couple of things moved forward: 1) Stacy and her ogre mate, Robbie Krieg finally make it official (in terms of the horizontal tango and the ) and 2) the big bad organization that seems to be behind the Anti-Crea(ture) movement is making appearance in the Epilogue chapter.

Oh wait, there's another development that I forgot!! Stacy makes another bond - this time with her caladrius, Loki. It appears that Loki's health takes a downturn and it has something with the process of "familiar" bonding that hasn't taken right.

Anyway, I enjoyed ALL of the developments of course - in between some murders and investigation done by Unit 13. I expect Stacy finds answer about her father's murder as well as uncovers anyone who is involved with within the department in the next book.

Another very enjoyable book in the ‘Other Detective’ series. As with the previous books, this starts with a murder – from the point of view of the victim. This time, the victim is an Other politician – an Air Elemental and aristocrat. The wounds on his body point to an Ogre murder, which may lead to a conflict of interest for Stacy, as she is dating the king of the Ogres, Robbie.
The Anti-Crea lobby look like they may have something to do with it. Lots of pressure from those on high to get a quick result. More murders. Corruption in the Symposium, and a possible link to the murder of Stacy’s father.
If that wasn’t enough, Loki is ill, and won’t say what is wrong.
Stacy has to make a decision about her relationship with Robbie. Will she end her hundreds of days of celibacy, and is she finally ready to commit?
A bit of cross-over with the Glimmer series with the appearance of Amber DeLea and Bastion (the latter in a rather different role)
I highly recommend this series which mixes urban fantasy, crime and romance genres.

Absolutely a brilliant creative and exhilarating edition. I could barely tear myself away for a second. The suspense build up from the start with the murder of Teddy Marlow, a Symposium member, staged to look like it was done by an ogre. It feels off to Stacey as she inspected the scene with Channing. Kate noticed dead cells in her autopsy, the question is what? Loki nearly had me in tears when Amber said he's dying trying to bond with Stacey, but what happens next, brought tears of happiness. He is such a loving little character. Between investigating the Anti-Crea, the Domini rearing it's ugly head, an attack by a female ogre, another murder, the kidnapping leading to the title of Mother of War and blossoming relationship with Robbie Krieg (sorry but not sorry, no spoilers from my lips), you will be spellbound till the scary epilogue which will raises the projection of a helluva ride in the next book. Grab this book asap.

I absolutely loved the latest story into the world of Stacy Wise. The reference to another beloved bookseries had me laughing out loud, but Stacy’s snark? Now that is the stuff of legends. She proves that it is no easy feat to be Kriegs mate and that she is more than worthy! The attitude and wit she shows in a street fight with an ogre was amazing. (I laughed so hard my husband asked if I was ok) Her defiance and strong will are fast making her one of my favorites. The love before the jab we got at the end had me tearing up, not just bc of kriegs love for her but the love for and of her family as well! I absolutely loved it from start to finish.
I need to see if Jinx and Lucy show up as well! The ending though! I cannot wait to see what comes next and how she gets out of it because I have no doubt she will deal with the order!

Arcane Justice is a part of The Other Realm Universe and is the third book in the The Other Detective series.

The Other Realm is engaging with strong FMCs that get their own distinct series. The slow burn romance with the love interest is just so satisfying! It's no wonder Heather G. Harris is one of my comfort reads! I will continue to keep up with all of her works, both in and out of the Other Realm series!

This was fine, but parts of it were SO goofy that I really struggled to take it seriously (which wouldn't be a problem excepttt the book seems to be aiming for a more serious tone, esp considering that epilogue). Lemme give ya some example quotes (no spoilers rlly, I'm taking these out of context bc they pissed me off):

"‘Oh.’ I had assumed that once we’d done the horizontal mambo, we’d be bonded, bada bing, bada boom. Instead, we’d bada’d but there was no boom. I mean, I’d boomed – lots – but the lack of bond was surprisingly disappointing."

^Making me read that with my own two eyes is actually crazyyyyy. The pacing of the romance progression in this book was insane.

"‘Size isn’t everything,’ I murmured. Though I couldn’t help but think about Robbie in that moment, because it might not be everything but it definitely made things really enjoyable."

^This is a closed door romance, but I stg we spend more than half of this book just reading about Stacy being horny for Robbie.

Aaaand last but not least,
"‘My dad killed them all.’ I closed my eyes and blew out a deep breath. Fuck, this was heavy. Still, I appreciated his willingness to share with me like I’d asked."

^Saying "Fuck, this was heavy" in this scenario is insane bc like yeah! I got that! You did not need to say it so outright lmao again, I promiseeee that most readers can pick up on the tone without you needing to spell it out word by word like that! This entireeee book was like this, TELLING ME instead of showing me. It's like the author is trying to convince me that the impact of this was major instead of actually just trying to make me FEEL that way.

Listen, I don't go into my urban fantasies expecting literary masterpieces, but some of this writing actively took me out of the story. Humor is subjective, and in the author's defense, this is the same humor that's been here since the first few chapters of book 1, so that's on me for sticking around regardless, but like come onnnnnnnn why are there so many cringey sex jokesssssss. I also can't get over the pacing of the romance. For reference, I WANT these two to be together! They're cute I guess! But oh my god the way they are acting feels so high school. So many of their interactions made me visibly recoil. I honestly think I'd have more patience for this if the book actually had smut, but it doesn't! So why are you subjecting me to all the horny flirting! Either keep it closed door and stop with all the cringey sex talk OR give me actual smut to back it up.

Idek why this book in particular pissed me off so much because it's really not that different from the first two. I guess I just don't like how Stacy is starting to delve into very questionable ethics because of her involvement with Robbie. I just don't feel like they've been together long enough for her feelings to be that cemented already. It 100% feels like we're just in the honeymoon phase, but ofc since it's fated mates or whatever that's not how we're treating it.

This is still a very solid urban fantasy series though. I get why it's rated so highly. I'm probably done tho. I just don't like the main characters all that much anymore. It's all just feeling too juvenile, which is weird considering all the sex and murder.

superb. Highly suspenseful, full of action packed scenes, beautifully crafted characters, emotionally laden moments and satisfying scenes.

Rating: 5⭐️

Of the many interconnected series in The Other Realm Universe, The Other Detective has definitely become my favorite, which is amazing because this is a great universe full of complex characters and richly crafted storylines.

Arcane Justice is the penultimate book, which sort of breaks my heart, in the story of magical Inspector Stacy Wise and her ongoing romance with Robbie Krieg, the Ogre King.

I’m really not ready for this series to come to an end.

Harris uses Arcane Justice to cement and celebrate certain bonds and relationships. Loki the caladrius has an important storyline as well as a resolution to his previous issues. Robbie and Stacy’s relationship is deeply affected by the events of this story. And a bigger villainous plot is revealed behind the many of the horrific incidents and murders that have happened.

Amber and Bastion appear to add additional drama and weight to the new development of the overall storyline. And tie it into previous series.

And while the main plot of the book ends happily. There’s an ominous epilogue that follows.

So Harris manages to make me as a reader incredibly happy then crushing me simultaneously with that epilogue. Got it.

Arcane Justice (The Other Detective Series Book 1) by Heather G Harris is superb. Highly suspenseful, full of action packed scenes, beautifully crafted characters, emotionally laden moments and satisfying scenes.

I do not want this series to end.

I’ve listed all the connected series below. It’s an absolute wealth of entertainment and reading enjoyment.

All recommended.

This latest book in this series was amazing! I could not get enough of it! I was even reading at 5am this morning desperately trying to finish it!

It starts off pretty dark and gruesome in the prologue, which definitely set the scene for Inspector Stacy Wise's next case. With the murder looking like it could have been someone known to Robbie Krieg, ogre king and Stacy's boyfriend, this one is going to take some working out and light treading as well. The murder mystery element was great and I loved the idea of the murder weapon too - a great way to try and confuse everyone involved!

I loved Stacy and Robbie's relationship and how they meld so well together. I knew that once they both took the plunge into the next step, their relationship would simply heat up and move quickly. And while it did, it is just the sweetest relationship out there. There's no pressure on Stacy from Robbie to move any faster than she wants to, yet she cannot help the way he makes her feel. He knows that she is a strong, fierce, independent woman who definitely does not need a man to fight for her, but at the same time he is always there for her, should she want his help. I just love the dynamics of their relationship.

Stacy was such a great character in this one - she was sassy, sarcastic, empathetic, gentle and caring. We got to see more to her than her "police officer" side, showing us in different ways how she cares for those in her life, from Ji-Ho to Laura in the office to Loki, her caladrius. I loved the way she dealt with the angry ogre (or is it ogress?) - the use of her "name" just had me in stitches while it riled the ogre up immensely! And her understanding of Robbie's need for a family almost broke my heart!

And now Stacy has more information about her father's murder - I can't wait to see what happens with this information now. What will Stacy do and what will that organisation do to her once they find out what she knows?!

This was an absolutely great read, highly recommended! It's not just a police procedural story set in an urban fantasy world. There's so much more to it than that and it pulls you in every direction imaginable. It makes you laugh, feel sad, angry, petrified, heart broken and ecstatic all at the same time. The author just sucks you right in from the start - there's no downtime, no monologues that drag on. It is constant action, drama and emotion that make you turn that page over and over. Thank you Heather for another fantastic read! I cannot wait for the next one!

**ARC Reader, all opinions are my own!**

Chief Inspector Stacy Wise is a chief inspector with the Cheshire Constabulary, the police force entrusted with the safety, security, and law enforcement of the ceremonial county of Cheshire in the northwest of England. She works hard, is functionally married to her job, and worries her mother constantly as she does her duty to protect the law-abiding citizens of Cheshire County.

Chief Inspector Wise has a secret, however. She is not just a DI for the Cheshire Constabulary; she is also a crossover CDI for the Connection. In fact, she’s the only one for several counties, meaning that where crimes are committed within the Other, she is literally the only one to call, and call they do. Worked a full shift already? That’s nice. Seeing double from the murder cases you’re actively working on? So what? If it’s Other-related, there’s no other CDI to solve the case.

When a major political figure in the Other Realm is found murdered in his home, the pressure is on to solve this case super fast. Things have progressed with the high king of the ogres, the irresistible Robbie Krieg, to the point where, thanks to the Other Realm's version of a Tattler News, EVERYONE knows they're together.

When ogres are implicated in the murder, the question of Stacy's objectivity is brought to fore and now she's got even more on her plate! Of course it wasn't the ogres, but someone really wants people to think it is… who would benefit from another creatures/wizards throw down…?

Continuing the tradition of immediate success that the “Other Detective Series” has garnered so deservingly, “Arcane Justice” transports the reader into the streets of Cheshire County to get to know everyone’s favorite kickass crossover badass, Stacy Wise. “Arcane Justice” serves as the phenomenal third book of the series, and ho-lee-cramoly is it GREAT! A fan-favorite from her supporting character roles in several of The Other Realm series by Heather G. Harris, Stacy now takes the stage in a long-awaited and fully deserved series of her own. Toss in the unparalleled narration of the vastly talented Alyse Gibbs, and the audiobook enthusiast has everything to work with that the ebook reader has, maybe even more! With appearances by characters well-known and yet still mysterious to fans of The Other Realm series, this is the continuation of a series that definitely has me excited for the coming books! 10/10, an absolutely MUST READ! Enjoy!

This book has more of everything I love about this series. More laughs, action, fun, and emotional moments that hit you right in the feels. And of course, more Loki being generally awesome!

Stacy's character really gets to shine in this book. She really gets the opportunity to be her true kick*ss, smart*ss self. She kicks butt with hilarious snark that had me crying with laughter during fight scenes and interrogations. I love it when female MCs save themselves. Despite keeping necessary secrets, she cuts through bull and is refreshingly honest and direct. You really feel her empathy towards others. You also see her let herself be vulnerable. She opens up about her past to help a friend. She also opens up to Krieg and Loki (her bird side-kick). It's great to see her accept how much she cares for both Kreig and Loki, and commit herself to them both. She makes a few mistakes, but she knows it and owns each one. You get to see her be a good leader: training her rookie partner, utilizing her full team effectively, supporting her friend & teammate struggling with PTSD, and getting her team to support each other (with heroic acts of culinary bravery), etc.

At first, I thought the mystery was easier to figure out than in the previous books, but there turned out to be more layers to the mystery than I thought. This installment also has more action and you see more progress on long-term plot arcs about her father's murder and the Domini. The plot arc about the Domini ties into plots from The Other Wolf series and The Other Witch series, so reading those would definately be helpful as this series progresses. While the end isn't a cliff-hanger, the last chapter and epilogue has me absolutely dying to know what happens next.

Humor is peppered throughout the whole story, having me laugh out loud even in some of the most dramatic and dark scenes. You get to see more ogre culture, learn about Loki's past, and see things heat up between Stacy and Kreig. They're great together, but they both make missteps. They work them out like the hilariously blunt adults that they are. I love that Kreig treats her like she's just as dangerous as he is.

Booth 3 is the best in this series. It's clearly hit it's stride and I can't wait to read the next one. These books are so much fun.

I recieved an eARC of this book via the author and have since ordered a copy. I am writing this review completely honestly and voluntarily.

I could not put this one down, it was so fun and fast-paced that one minute I was just getting started and then suddenly I had finished the whole book in one sitting!
The case moved along at a good pace, even knowing from the prologue things that the police didn't (at first), they figured those out soon enough and it never felt dragging, but also never felt like they just pulled the answer out of a hat either.
I still freaking adore Loki, didn't think I could adore him more but with every book I'm proven wrong. The tiredness and him not feeling great was so worrying, so having his cheek back and the issue figured out was all the sweeter. (Have I mentioned I love that snarky little rascal?).
Speaking of adoring, I also freaking adore Robbie. He's somehow passionate and strong and hot and also so sweet and understanding, like with his crows and Loki, it's really a treat to see more sides to him than we really saw in other series he appeared in.
Stacy had some personal development when things went to hell in a handbasket and proved yet again, she can definitely be the badass saving the day, even while facing reminders of her troubled past.
I'm loving developing Robbie and Stacy's relationship more, some big steps were finally taken, every one of their interactions reminds me why I love them both so much. And Stacy taking her mum aside to tell her to call him Robbie was just... Oh, my heart… I never thought of it like that.
The moment with Ji-ho was so sad and sweet, I just want to give him a big cuddle and make it all okay, Stacy handled that brilliantly.
The ending really leaves me worried as it's an introduction of sorts to future enemies, and what might be sort of the 'big bad' for this series, which I'm so very excited (scared?) to learn more about and hopefully even to see them exposed and taken down eventually. I'm guessing they'll be causing a LOT more problems in the meantime though.
If I wasn't in love with this series already, I sure am now! I love how Heather can just take me on an emotional rollercoaster with her books. There's never a dull moment and you can be laughing one page and trying not to cry the next. With meaningful moments and hilarious comments and tense situations all woven together so well to create a world I don't want to leave and characters I never want to say goodbye to.

I have loved every book set in the Other Realm universe, but just three books into Stacy and Krieg’s arc, and they have already climbed to the very top of my Heather favorites.

Crime procedurals were my first love as a young reader, so this series scratches a particular itch for me. What makes it stand out is that Heather does not just sprinkle in an investigation for flavor. The procedural side feels essential and carefully constructed, with real momentum and stakes. At the same time, the story never loses the heart of what makes this universe so comforting and compelling. The relationships are layered and satisfying in every direction: the romance between Stacy and Krieg, the friendships with Ji Ho, Kate, Cassandra, Steve, and the rest, the workplace dynamics that keep things sharp and funny, and the family moments that make you melt. Stacy’s family is one of my favorite parts of the series, and I loved watching how naturally they have come to treat Robbie as part of the family.

This installment also gave us some of my favorite character bonding moments. Stacy and Loki, her caladrius, absolutely stole scenes for me. “Not bird. Caladrius!” had me laughing, and their connection brought so much warmth in the middle of some seriously dark events.

Speaking of dark, the crimes in Arcane Justice are not simple or surface-level. The plot feels deeply buried, messy, and far-reaching, and the consequences ripple outward in ways that clearly matter for what is coming next. We also get important clues tied to the past, plus a few wonderful touches for longtime fans. I loved seeing Lucy and Emory mentioned, and every Amber and Bastion appearance is a treat. They pop up just enough to make you want even more.

The investigation itself is brutal and gripping, full of murders that hit hard and a constant push to place the blame where it does not belong, on the ogres. I liked how the story circles back to the Anti-Crea movement introduced earlier in the Jinks and Emory storyline, because it ties the larger universe together and raises the stakes beyond a single case. Stacy and Unit 13 feel like a real team now, and watching them chase the killer and the person pulling the strings behind the scenes kept me locked in.

And that ending. It sets up so many possibilities, and I cannot wait to see where Stacy goes next.

*I got an arc from Heather*

CW: violent murder in the prologue (and analysing the body in ch 1); use of the term warpath (I let Heather know and she's pretty good about fixing terms when she's alerted to them); bigoted protesters; government openly fine with collateral damage (but not supported by FMC); minor reference to a different DV case that ended in the abused woman's death (before a different officer notes the abuser ~mysteriously~ fell to his death); discussions of trauma post-kidnapping and societal expectations of people not seeking therapy; transphobia (addressed by FMC)

~~

Stacy is still getting used to this whole 'relationship' thing with Krieg. To make matters worse, the murder of an important politician looks to have been committed by an ogre... can their relationship survive the constant strain of being under different legal and moral constraints? Also something seems to be the matter with Loki... Plus, maybe the Domini now have Stacy in their sights to the extent that even *Bastion* is concerned?! Yikes. Can Stacy survive her case with her heart, morals and life intact?

I really enjoy the world Heather has created (even if nothing can beat the perfection of Amber's books for me!). I like seeing how differently Krieg behaves with Stacy compared with how he acts in his position as High King in previous series. The character development is well-done and I enjoy how issues from previous series tie into Stacy's current cases (not just because I love Amber cameos!). I will say while this series may not technically be darker than previous series, it is definitely gorier so this is something to keep in mind. I wouldn't say there is a cliffhanger, but the epilogue hints at some serious shenanigans for (what I'm guessing is) the final book in the series (and I know some people find such things frustrating even if it doesn't bother me personally).

As always, being back in this world is excellent and I would ADORE a short story just from Loki's point of view!

Oh my goodness - This.Book.Has.Everything!

I love all of the books in the Other Realm universe, but Stacy and Krieg are working really hard at moving to the top of my favourites list. This series has a different feel to the others, as the crime procedural element is a vital component of it. The machinations of the crimes taking place in this book are deeply buried and far reaching in their consequences. Brutal murder, that attempts to clearly allocate blame where it doesn’t belong, keeps Stacy and her new Unit 13 team busy in the hunt for the killer… and whoever is pulling their strings.

This particular book still has some laughter, (when you hit that sweet spot, you’ll definitely laugh out loud) but there are also painful memories explored and action packed peril too. There are some heart in the mouth moments, when events take a dangerous turn and you’re hoping all those involved survive.

And then there are ‘the feels’ as heartstrings are tugged on, lumps appear in throats and eyes may take on a slight shimmer. This story definitely has its share of those moments, both as Stacy’s concern for Loki bring revelations and deepens her affection for him, and in the developing relationship between Stacy and Robbie Krieg. Their story isn’t rushed, (Well Amber did mention glacial, although I’m not sure how much room she really had to talk!) but their backgrounds and history don’t make things straightforward, especially when Ogre culture has to be taken into account. Their feelings have grown over time and events may just help to brings them into focus. If anyone can be a good match for the High King of the Ogres and hold their own in his den, surely Stacy can? The way she ‘sees’ Robbie as no one else does, really does touch your heart.

I cannot wait for more in this series, even without the tantalising hint of what may yet be to come, it has drawn me in, made me love the characters, and left me totally invested in their story.

I've been reading HGH since her first release and that was a 5 star read for me. So how is it possible that her stories just keep getting better and better??? Once again my mind has been blown and my kindle app is overheating my phone!

First off, the cover really caught my attention. Check out that look on Stacy's face. If you like your FMC's tough but with a soft centre only shown to a trusted few, determined to go to any length necessary to get the bad guy and with the charisma to lead a team of like-minded quasi-heroes, then this is the series for you.

The imagery in this book is strong. There's not one unnecessary word and yet there's a 3D, full colour movie playing out in my head - and I love it. Watching as Stacy runs a crime scene, teaching and encouraging her partner, or as she cuddles with her touch starved bird, or lays her own trauma bare to comfort a friend, I can see and feel it all too.

That's one thing that stood out for me about this book. It felt like the author had dug down deeper than ever into her own heart and added extra feeling into the characters. More character depth, more emotion, more empathy in each interaction. And the humour!! There were so many hilarious moments. Sheer genius.

I always look for the little life lessons tucked away in a paragraph somewhere in Ms Harris' books. "People should bond over love, nature’s beauty, or books, not bitterness, bigotry and bile." was one I found this time.

And then there's the romance. Just wow. This couple are Stabbie 🤣🤣🤣. I adore the way Ms Harris has brought them together and the full-on, no holds barred committment they are now waving proudly. Almost like an ogre's stolen mace 😉.

I'll say it again - Heather G Harris is a literary phenomenon and can take all my money. Just brilliant. If you haven't read any of her books, go back and start with the amazing Glimmer series - but read fast so you can meet Stacy Wise and Robbie Krieg.

Five Stars for Loki Alone
Arcane Justice kicks off with a bang - okay, fine, a murder. A very intentional, very suspicious murder that's clearly a frame job.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love getting it straight from the victim's POV in the prologues. Immediate tension, immediate vibes, zero warm-up laps.

Stacy continues to be a top-tier MC. She's smart, wildly competent, and feels like an actual detective, even though my only reference is TV. The procedural / mystery side of this book really shines. The investigation, the politics, the layers of who's pulling strings and why. I'm deeply invested in all the supernatural power plays happening. It's been building for awhile and I love every little detail we get.

And the romance. Ohhh the romance. Stacy and Robbie are perfect. Slow burn done right, no rushing, no nonsense. Watching Stacy navigate ogre customs on the fly is awesome. Some big stuff happens here and it's amazing.

Loki continues to be one of the absolute best parts of this series. Hands down. This chaotic, snarky, emotional "not a bird" delivers some of the best lines and some of the biggest feelings.

The balance here is spot on - mystery, romance, humor, action, and emotional gut punches all working together. The plot is tight, the pacing flies, and the world building just keeps getting richer. We get real answers and enough new threads to make waiting for the next book mildly painful.

I read this in one sitting because putting it down was simply not an option. Fast, gripping, and ridiculously addictive.

Highly recommend. Bring snacks. Cancel plans.

🔥 zero warm-up, immediate murder energy
🧠 smart procedural fantasy done right
🐦 emotional support caladrius
💕 slow burn romance bliss
👀 breadcrumbs and cameos everywhere
🌍 amazing world building
