The Light Between Us

Rate this book
Unlucky me. That’s what I’ve believed ever since I lost my mom at age thirteen. From then on, my life has spiraled. My two siblings, however, have managed to pick themselves up from the ruins and carry on—but I could never seem to do that. While my brother and sister inherited all my mom’s creative, loving, and charismatic genes, I didn’t get any of that. Just my dad’s bitterness. I know I’ve let everyone down, including myself, but I have gotten really good at running from my problems.

That’s why I never thought I would come crawling back to Portland, Maine, again—let alone as a pregnant, broke college dropout. By leaving California, I’m walking away from the life I built for myself—though it was never on a solid foundation to begin with—to escape a terrible relationship . . . only to be sleeping in my childhood bedroom without a plan for my future. Now at rock bottom, I’m forced to face the mistakes I’ve made, the relationships I’ve abandoned, and the people I’ve hurt.

Slowly—begrudgingly—I’m learning that I don’t have to do it alone. Even when I’m at this new low in my life, in walks the sweetest man to ever Harvey Brindle. Through all the chaos, unknowns, and milestones, Harvey sticks by me when he could easily discard me like every other man I know.

But I have sworn off love—and men in general. Harvey is just a friend. A best friend. Our talks over steaming mugs of tea soothe the broken parts of me. And the way he helped me assemble a stroller, with his brilliant smile and gentle words of encouragement . . . he’s the first person to truly see me. As much as I could see myself falling for Harvey (and I have imagined it many times), it’s simply not happening. Who could possibly love a damaged, self-destructive woman pregnant with another man’s child?

Kristie’s newest book, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗨𝘀, is such an endearing novel with a dose of nostalgia!

At first I was hesitant because I’m not a huge fan of the accidental pregnancy trope but this book was worth it! When Angie Novak heads home for the holidays with 4 bags of luggage and an unexpected pregnancy on the way with no intention of going back to her ex, the last thing she is looking for is love. Enter Harvey Brindle. 😏

I loved Harvey from the first moment we met him. He’s the perfect golden retriever. He was there for Angie as a friend when she needed it. Shoot, everyone was. I also had no idea this would be an interconnected story with 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗮. I know they are standalones in the same series but I thought the connection was the millennial aspect but I was wrong. You don’t need to read 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗮 to follow this one but you will love her brother Jeremiah Novak so much more if you do/ did.

Kristie really nails the nostalgic feel in her books without overdoing or forcing it. Not me reeling over the Pogs! I swear I probably still have a whole crayon box full of them! Her characters are relatable and real too. I really felt for Angie. This isn’t just a great friends to lovers love story but it’s a journey of rediscovery and healing post trauma and abuse. The relationships between her father and siblings were heart felt. There were times when she gave them the cold shoulder and I just wanted to scream, but I can relate too. The dialogue was great, the story moves at a decent pace, the characters are fleshed out nicely, and it will leave you broken hearted and swooning.

If you love the nostalgic feel of the early 2000s, a friends to lovers but he falls first romance, and found family that handles emotional healing with grace, this is the perfect book to pick up!

I’ll be honest, I was hesitant going into this one because I’m not usually a big fan of the accidental pregnancy trope… but this book completely won me over. It was heartfelt, nostalgic, and emotional in all the best ways.🤍

What I appreciated most about this book was how it balanced romance with healing. It’s about rediscovery, family, and learning to let yourself be loved again after trauma. The relationship between Angie and her dad broke my heart at times. Their scenes were so raw and emotional that I found myself holding my breath more than once. I just wish we had seen a little more of their relationship grow after Colby was born.

Kristie also nailed the nostalgic early 2000s vibe without overdoing it. Her dialogue feels natural, her pacing is steady, and her characters feel real, messy, flawed, and human.

Angie frustrated me in the beginning (girl was testing my patience 😅), but once her story started unfolding, I understood her so much more. By the end, I was completely rooting for her. And Harvey is just the kind of man who loves with quiet strength and never once asks for anything back.

This one left me both swooning and a little brokenhearted. If you love a nostalgic, early 2000s setting, a friends-to-lovers but he falls first romance, and found family that handles healing with grace, you need to read this one!💕

Huge thank you to RRTours and to Kristie Price for the gifted physical copy in exchange for my honest review! This is my first ever read by Kristie and I feel that she did a really amazing job at making this book such a beautiful story about healing.

The Light Between Us, in short, follows the life of Angie. A girl who is heading home to be with family however things between her and her family aren’t exactly as smooth as they should be. Let alone the fact that she is currently pregnant by a man who was nothing but abusive and cruel towards her. This story held so much weight to it that I feel that this is a story that is going to reach out to a lot of people. Seeing the beautiful journey that Angie and her father go on touched my heart in so many ways. I also really enjoyed Jeremiah. Talk about a perfect protective brother that had Angie’s back and just wanted to help her in life. Then comes in Henry. I loved Henry. Seeing him so happy to see Angie home, even if she didn’t truly remember him, ugh my heart. He was the epitome of the perfect guy for Angie. Seeing all the support she got during this book just made me feel like it truly is all about sharing life with the right people.

The Light Between Us by Kristie Price is a rom-com book by the author about a woman, Angie, who doesn't really have a direction in her life and she is struggling with a pregnancy also. She is learning to face her decisions in life and find out that she is not alone and doesn't have to do everything by herself, she does have help. And in walks a supremely sweet man named Harvey. I do like an accidental pregnancy troupe romance most days but I prefer the mother to end up with the father of the babies. I did not like this part of the book as Harvey is a random best friend of Angie's and has nothing to do with the kids. However I did really like the character of Harvey, he is an adorable young man who steps up for his friend and also they fall in love of course. Harvey does have a bad temper but he is non violent and treats Angie in a great way and also her son, Colby. He really is an awesome step dad to Colby and just a great man overall. I really liked the book once I met Harvey and learned more about Angie and their relationship was just perfectly written.I even grew to like Angie as a character because in the beginning I kind of disliked her;) I would read another rom com by this author in the future:)

3.5 stars! This was a sweet, coming of age with some romance story!

-He falls first
-High school crush
-Friends to lovers
-Surprise pregnancy w/twist
-Dual POV
-Early 2000's setting
-Low to almost no spice

This story was sweet and swoony, I loved seeing Angie's growth - she has so much to overcome and deal with personally, aside from the pregnancy. Harvey, is the sweetest guy - and does so well be friend zoned haha! There was next to no spice, just one small scene towards the end - but overall mainly focused on Angie's story of becoming a mom, growing up, and learning about forgiveness and accepting that its OK to ask for help!

This story was a quick read, under 300 pages and was fast paced - making it easy to binge! I also loved the early 2000's setting, bringing back all the nostalgia of that time!

I do wish there was more to the story, maybe some more of the before part of Angie's story, or even some more tension and drama amongst our MC's. Overall this was a sweet and cute story.

Recommended for those who love a romance, a coming of age, and a low to no spice story!

This book was a journey of healing and overcoming trauma with a beautiful slow burn romance.❤️‍🩹 Also, it's set in the early 2000s which was such a throwback! The little references thrown in were gems!

Angie never thought she'd move back to her hometown after losing her mom and then being raised by her older brother, while their father drank away his pain and neglected them. But she's just found out she's pregnant and knows it's time to leave her terrible relationship.

Angie is understandably very bitter and a little unlikeable at the beginning of this story. But as the weeks and months move on, she forms a friendship with Harvey, who is so patient and sweet. And she starts to repair her relationship with her family and realizes, she's not alone. This story is developed so beautifully, not rushed, and through the pain and trauma, feels like a warm hug.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming story. The trauma between Angie and her dad had me feeling so many emotions. Angie was such a great character and went through so much but was still able to keep it all together. I love Jeremiah and Harvey. Jeremiah is such a supportive and loving brother. Harvey was able to put his love for her aside and just be a great friend and was there for Angie no matter what. This was a romance, but also had emotional healing that will have you all up in the fields. I really hope the next book features Evie.

I could not put this book down. Angie struggles so much after her mom dies with no support from her dad she runs away only to return home pregnant. As she starts to put herself back together and get her life together so she can raise her baby she meets Harvey who is just so sweet but not without his own baggage. Having been in love with Angie since high school Harvey wants a second chance. This was so sweet and sad at times my only complaint is it wasn’t long enough lol i really didn’t want it to end.

This wasn’t what I expected. I definitely enjoyed it, but I did expect more romance than what we got. It was very slow burn and more about the FMC’s past, healing, and moving forward than it was about the romance with the MMC.

I thought it was really cute and a healing story, but wanted more between the characters. They were friends more than halfway in still, so I wouldn’t go into this thinking it’s full of romance.

Also expected it to be more Christmas themed, but it wasn’t too Christmasy.

That being said, it was good, 3 ⭐️ good. Definitely a good fast read.

I will be honest at first I couldn’t stand angel. She was annoying to me. But as the book progressed I was able to understand her and grew to love her character. The plot was nice and quick paced so kept me engaged and obviously who doesn’t love Harvey… because well he’s Harvey!

I only wish we had more relationship development that we were able to see with her father in Colby’s first year of life!

this book was such a treat!! if you’re a fan of black cat & golden retriever tropes this will be for you. the family dynamics and how the story progresses really is chefs kiss! i loved how the book is filled with a bunch of cool references to the 90’s-2000’s, very nostalgic and weaved into the story so well. if you’re looking for a great read this snowy season i highly recommend this book.

I truly loved this book! The character development was really amazing and I can relate to the struggles. I hope the author continues with this "millennial love collection" and we get more stories!
