In-Between

Rate this book
Four strangers—Alamea, May, Nathan, and Eli—are thrust into a parallel world they never knew was theirs. Prophesied as the Second Children, reincarnations of ancient Guardians, they are the only ones who can stop the return of a goddess bent on destruction.

But their prophecy has long been forgotten. Hunted by monsters, distrusted by empires, and used as pawns in a ruthless game of faith and power, the Second Children must survive deadly trials and uncover the secrets of the Tablet of Life—or watch Ny’a fall to ruin.

Loyalties will be tested. Belief will be broken. And in a world where belonging is survival, one truth rules them Belong or die.

For fans of Brandon Sanderson, Sarah J. Maas, and N.K. Jemisin, In Between begins a sweeping new fantasy saga of destiny, rebellion, and sacrifice.

Desperately wanted to love this one, but couldn’t stand the characters. They felt very juvenile. I’d say this whole story felt more YA and I just had a hard time connecting into the adventure.

Thank you anyways to the author, NetGalley, and Troubador Publishing for a copy.

Review: I thought that with adults in their mid to late 20's that there would be some sort of cohesive adult interplay. NOPE. Same old stupid YA trash. There is Dudley Doo-Right: So afwaid of his super powers. He must prwotect his wittle muffins. May: she is spring like (flowers ad nauseum) and clingy. Aways crwying and sniffling. Alma: Oh she is a spicey mexican gal, born in a hot cantina with an even hotter temper and fire wielding abilities. Nathan: Aw shucks brown disheveled hair with a nerdy afterglow. Of course he likes the one taken. Take a backseat and settle for less you doofus.

This story line was boring AF. "Oh gee. Lets find the little kiddies that were prophesized to blah, blah but leave them on their own to protect them..." Would not they be better off under direct supervision like residing at HQ or at the least being read in on everything? How is leaving them in the dark, protection? F'ing stupid.

Usually I recommend burying books like these in a shallow grave with a dead racoon. But dammit this writer has skill. Everything flows real nice. It's just the story line and genre that is all fupped up. The publisher sells this as General Fiction ADULT.

I received this as an ARC to review via Netgalley.

So I did thoroughly enjoy this book and found it a fantastic read. I found the world building to be quite good, it definitely immersed me into the world of Ny'a.

I quite enjoyed the main characters, I think them coming all from a different background was nice and added diversity. There were times when I felt like they were being whiny kids throwing a tantrum but that wasn't too often and I could overlook that. Though when they did act like this, particular May, it just didnt feel right for her character.

For the story itself, it definitely felt more Sci-fi at the beginning but led into Fantasy once they were in Ny'a and I quite enjoyed this, it also wasnt too slow or too fast in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of the romance in this as it was very back and forth with Eli unable to make his mind up which is a personal annoyance, but the actual plot was really good. Honestly, I'm looking forward to reading more coming from this Author.

Thank you for letting me have the chance tonread this!

A beautiful, surprising fantasy that pulled me in from the first chapter.

I am not a fantasy reader, but nevertheless, I absolutely loved In-Between. I wasn’t expecting to connect so deeply with the characters, but each one felt so strong, flawed, diverse, and full of personality. Their voices stayed with me long after I finished reading.

The world-building is incredible too. It’s imaginative and different from anything I’ve read recently, yet it feels grounded and relevant to the world we live in today. The story touches on identity, belonging, and finding your place — themes that made the whole adventure feel meaningful as well as exciting.

I kept telling myself “just one more chapter,” and suddenly I was at the end. It’s the kind of fantasy that sweeps you away but also gives you something to think about.

I’m recommending it to all my friends — it’s a gem. Can't wait to read more of this young and talented writer.

In-Between is a quiet, haunting exploration of identity, belonging, and the spaces we occupy when life feels unsettled.

Laetitia Pancrazi writes with delicate precision, capturing emotions that are often unspoken but deeply felt. The narrative lingers on the subtle moments—glances, silences, choices—that reveal as much as dramatic events ever could. It’s intimate, introspective, and occasionally unsettling in the most compelling way.

The protagonist’s journey is deeply human, navigating the tension between who they are and who the world expects them to be. Pancrazi balances internal reflection with external encounters, creating a story that feels both personal and universal.

If you’re drawn to literary fiction that is thoughtful, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant, In-Between will stay with you long after the final page, leaving you reflecting on your own in-between spaces.

I think that the book’s strongest points were the plot, character development and world-building. The magic system was adequate. There were, however, several elements that brought me out of the story. I did not like the romance parts and I skipped over any prophecy. I also thought there was too much inner voice. These are my personal preferences and I suspect that many readers will love the parts I didn’t. And even though I skipped the prophecy, I was able to understand the rest of the book and didn’t feel the need to go back. Despite what I consider shortcomings, I still enjoyed the book and felt that it was a worthwhile read. Thank you to Netgalley and Troubador Publishing for the advance reader copy.

Having a real love for fantasy and the world building, I was super hopeful for this book. The characters offered fun and some challenge but they were not as multi layered as I would have liked the slotted into trope territory- nerd, muscle, princess and beast, the story its self I can definitely say I will read the next in the series although the first 30 pages or so weren't needed and the epic battle was not as fully fleshed out. The 'truth" cave makes up for this and I will excuse anything for a good versus evil tale. Thank you #netgalley for the arc

I enjoyed this. Fairly well developed characters and some ok world building. I would perhaps of liked some more depth to the characters and some greater political intrigue. Thank you to the author. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.
