She was willing to do far worse things than marry a duke to save her family.
The only thing Lady Johanna has in abundance is desperation. Her brother, the young and impoverished Earl of Falmouth, cannot support the family. With no marriage prospects of her own, Lady Johanna has little hope of saving her mother and siblings from slow starvation until her brother's guardian offers to secretly send her to auction at a bawdy house.
The misfortune that dogged the family since her father's death quickly turns when the Lord of Luck himself, the rakish Duke of St. Albans, sees her on the stage. With one flip of his lucky coin, Lady Johanna goes from rags to riches, from total ruin to betrothed to the richest duke of the ton overnight.
For the first time in years, her family will be provided for, their futures assured and bright. Yet as Lady Johanna begins to believe in her own luck, her mother reveals a secret so shocking it threatens not only Johanna's chance at happily ever after, but the family's very survival.

Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
This one was one of my favourites from the series so far. I like St. Albans the most from all the dukes, he's just so easy going and relaxed and just plain nice. Besides his coin flipping thing, he was perfect.
Johanna on the other hand was pretty passive, she let life happen to her and was really ok with it. I think they worked out perfectly together. There was also a small advancement in the overarching plot, and I am curious to find out who actually did it, though I am sure it will be a lot longer to wait.
He truly is delightful and becoming a favorite of mine.
His and Johanna’s story is so compelling, sweet and steamy, with the mystery of the fathers’s deaths woven throughout without distracting from the budding and flowering love story.
However, I am distressed by such excellent writing that I have finished the book and now feel at a loss without these characters and their great attraction. This happens to be the case with all the books Golden Angel has written in this era. The next one is not due for release until October. Until then, I will go back and reread some of the prior books which I do own and congratulate myself for purchasing rather than borrowing at KU.
Another great read for this series... I am loving all the dukes and their ladies! Matthew is definitely a cinnamon roll hero, and Johanna has had to shoulder responsibilities that lead her to trouble, but of course he is there to rescue her. The chemistry and steam are hot from the start. This read holds you from the start and I already want the next book in the series. This has been an amazing series so far!!!
I loved this book so much. The writing is tight and engrossing. And Golden Angel writes some gorgeous prose. The spice was perfection. But I want I underscore that this is some of the best writing. Really beautifully drawn characters, with stories that unfold with delightfully calibrated tension. Love it!! Now I’m on a countdown for the next book!!!
I am really enjoying this mystery romance series. Each story reveals a little more about the secret of who murdered the "indecent dukes" fathers. In this one, Matthew and Johanna join forces to change their fortunes. She, in desperation, commits herself to possible servitude and slavery but is rescued by the Lord of Luck. But will a new revelation disrupt her circumstances?
This is the first book that I have read in this series and I really enjoyed it. I don't think there have been any books by this author that I haven't liked. Now I am off to find the first two.
This was an excellent book that kept me turning pages until it was finished. The characters were great. The story advanced the murder investigation of the duke’s some. Excellent!
The Lord of Luck will forever have my heart! The third installment of the Indecent Dukes series knocked it out of the park! Johanna and Matthew’s story was so endearing and quite indecent. A love story with a murder mystery in a regency setting? Yes, please! I finished this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. Cannot wait to read more in this fabulous series!
Great continuation of the series. We get some more hints about who murdered the dukes’ fathers as well as getting to see Matthew and his bride. I really liked him and Johanna as a couple.
loved this book even more than the last one! Johanna was incredibly lucky to be saved by the Lord of Luck. And Matthew is such a sweetheart, he couldn't have been a better partner for Johanna. They turned out to be a perfect match. The story of the coin touched my heart.
~~ Whether or not his grandmother had been right, and he had flipped a coin for love, he knew one thing was true… The day he’d purchased his bride had been the luckiest day of his life. ~~
I received an arc of this book by the author, and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Oh,my….those Indecent Dukes are something else! Though the reason they are on the hunt for a bride is tragic, they have very interesting, and yes ,most indecent, ways of catching them.
Take Matthew, the Duke of St.Albans,or as many call him,the Lord of Luck. He may have had a troubled childhood, but after he found his coin, his luck changed. And now, with a flip of his coin,he buys his bride at an auction,of all places! Ok,he already knew the poor girl before he bought her. And yes,he knew she was in dire straits. But she must’ve been desperate to go this far….. So,he saved the sweet beauty from total ruination, and gains a grateful wife. Best decision his coin made for him, ever!
His grandmother,Lady Stark, was appalled at what he’d done, but she took Johanna in like she was her own. And she did the same for her family when Matthew told her they’d be staying with them, too.
Johanna was prepared to do anything to save her mother and her siblings from starvation, but to sell her virginity was a new low, even for her. Sadly, her brother’s guardian told her she had no other options left…..but when Matthew bought her,she knew she was in good hands. He was an honorable and kind man,and she knew he’d treat her right. What she didn’t expect, was his proposal though! Accepting it wasn’t difficult at all,she liked him and was grateful he was prepared to save her reputation, as well as her family from starvation.
What she didn’t expect either, was the reaction of her mother to the good news…..why on earth would she be against the marriage?? Surely she wasn’t serious….right? Her mother wasn’t a killer….but what would Matthew think?? She loved being married to him,in every way that counted. Plus,he was so good with her brother Micah. Her sisters Bridget and Charlotte really liked him,and so did their cousin Rose….. He wouldn’t do anything bad….would he??
As luck would have it,she not only had a wonderful husband, they both had véry good friends that understood the situation as well. But the ones actually responsible…..those still remained a mystery, even if they now had new clues.
So,while Matthew and Johanna got the happy after they deserved, the investigation continues. And i hope to find more clues in Sebastian’s story,The Duke’s Indecent Desires! And i hope to hear some good news for Zachary or Zach….they REALLY need someone to love,if they let them….
I love Matthew,he embraced life with a grin, and really was a lucky man. With or without his coin. He had a grandmother that adored him, even if he drove her mad at times. I can totally see where he got that big heart from, the one that wanted to make sure their loved ones are happy. Johanna was the same, but she had a more difficult time doing so until she met her knight in shining armor. I love how she had an open mind to everything Matthew wanted to try,and understood the reason he depended on his coin.
Her mother did the best she could for the children she loved more than life itself, until she got seriously ill. Rose, their cousin, was just like Johanna, but being an illegitimate daughter, she knew her chances of a marriage like Johanna were slim. I really hope she’s going to be wrong, though…and there are already signs of that. Micah, her younger brother and the Earl of Falmouth, was a serious young man that only wanted to do right by his family, but had the bad luck of having a greedy guardian. Poor boy… Bridget, that girl was chaos, always asking questions and doing as she pleased. She was a real challenge for Lady Stark, but that woman is made of sterner stuff….lol And Charlotte, the youngest of the bunch, she was the quiet one, eerily so. Though i understand why….and i can’t help, but wonder the kind of woman she will grow into.
I have loved this whole series so far and this third book is just as amazing as the previous ones. I love the “tragic dukes” as they are known as their fathers were all killed together in a fire that was deemed an accident but the new dukes believe that there is something more sinister about the accident and that they were murdered. They are quietly investigating throughout this series of books and one duke finds his forever love in each book. They can be read as standalones but each story is made much richer by reading the previous books.
This story belongs to Matthew, the Duke of St Albans, who is also known as the Lord of Luck. He has carried the same coin in his pocket since he was a teenager and flips it whenever he needs to decide something. He flips his coin and marries Lady Johanna Ashmore, who he saves from the auction block as her family have fallen on very hard times and she was told this was her only option.
Her family consisting of her sickly mother, three younger siblings; a brother Micah, an earl who hasn’t reached his majority yet, two sisters, Bridget and Charlotte and her illegitimate cousin Rose who is Johanna’s heart sister all arrive to live with the couple and his grandmother Lady Stark. Bridget would argue with her toes and Charlotte, with her pale complexion and white blonde hair quietly scares the bejesus out of most of the other characters who aren’t used to her. Her family are a real fun addition to the household and Lady Stark takes great pleasure in the company and the antics they bring. She also takes charge of all of their needs, whether they like it or not. Lady Stark is a strong willed woman who has great patience and is very kind. I really loved how she quietly brought Bridget round to become less argumentative and took all of them under her wing.
Lady Johanna has a lot to learn to become the duchess she hopes Matthew will be proud of. Lady Stark and the wives and friends of the other dukes are all ready to help her adjust. Her friends are a very close set of strong minded women and Johanna and Rose enjoy spending time with them.
Her mother secretly tells Johanna something that could not only put her marriage in jeopardy but also her mother’s life. It could also help the dukes to find more information about the fire that killed their fathers. Matthew also learns something very important about himself after a loss that changes him for the better.
This large cast of characters in this book were all wonderful in their own way. The dukes are so supportive of each other, although there is a disagreement between one of them and the others that could have consequences for the friends who are more like brothers but thankfully this is resolved by the end of the book. I also loved the ladies who were also very supportive and would defend each other if needed.
This book was such a great read. I did have to make a note of the Christian names of the dukes and their ducal names as they are interchanged throughout the plot. The storyline was very engaging flowed beautifully to the end. I had a giggle from the antics of the Ashmore family and the dukes. There are also plenty of steamy scenes between Matthew and Johanna that includes some consensual spanking. The steamy scenes are very well written and fit into the plot perfectly.
There was an epilogue that gives a hint of who the next duke to find his wife will be and I am really looking forward to reading the next book. I received a special copy from the author, thank you so much! I am voluntarily leaving this review.
This is my review of The Duke's Indecent Purchase by Golden Angel. It is book three of Golden Angel's Indecent Dukes Historical Romance Series and I seriously recommend that one reads the first two books in this series before reading this particular book.
This is because there is a mystery that is part of the entire series. The first book is The Duke's Indecent Scandal, and in this first volume we are introduced to the central mystery which is that the fathers of eight Dukes were murdered at a hunting lodge during an explosion and subsequent fire. In The Duke's Indecent Scandal, we get introduced to the seven Dukes that are going to be featured in this series. These seven Dukes are friends and they decide to try to work together to solve the mystery and bring the guilty to justice while at the same time find brides since each of the Dukes are relatively young and they are unmarried. In The Duke's Indecent Scandal we get the beginning of the series and the first few female characters.
The second book is The Duke's Indecent Match and it introduces the next few important female characters. It is important to note that each book introduces more of the female characters that are important to the series, also there is more revealed about the central mystery.
The Third Book is The Duke's Indecent Purchase and this is the book I am reviewing. We have the main female character of Johanna and the main male character of Matthew. Johanna is the daughter of an Earl and her family is desperately poor and starving, so she agrees to sell her virginity at a Brothel in London. Matthew is the Duke known as the Lord of Luck, he is well known for always flipping a coin to decide when he needs to make a decision.
Matthew sees Johanna at the Auction and makes the highest bid and thus buys her. He then whisks her away and he tells her he is going to marry her. Matthew takes her to his house where his mother is and then he has Johanna's family brought to London.
Johanna has already met some of the important FMCs and so they all get together and the other women make sure she is informed about the mystery and the progress of solving it.
I really loved this book, it has wonderful characters and it has a terrific central mystery and it has a number of excellent smutty scenes and as always it has smutty scenes involving butt stuff that I think are excellent. Ehh if you have read other books by Golden Angel then you know that there will be butt stuff, if you haven't read other books by Golden Angel, well then make a point to do so!
I love all the books in this series and cannot get enough of them, every one is my favourite and Johanna and Matthew’s story was so lovely, the way they came together, the way Matthew took in her entire family and the chemistry between them. Matthew’s grandmother was an added bonus, she was perfect for the story. The characters are so great, Bridget and Charlotte are wonderul, but I think there may be more to discover about Charlotte, Zachary makes me sad and I hope he finds someone to love soon as well as Sebastian and Mei who is an intriguing character and has depths I don’t think we have seen yet. This is a story that will keep you reading long after you should have put the book down and leaves you with a sense of well being and happiness.
A group of high ranking nobleman, all Dukes, brought together by a tragedy and the mystery surrounding it, are all, slowly but surely, finding their significant other in unusual ways! Lady Johanna's family is in dire financial and physical stress. Protective and caring, she is prepared to go any lengths to support and help her mother and siblings. This brings her to Matthew and rescue in the most challenging of circumstances. This has been a fun and hot read. I thoroughly enjoyed the different characters of the dukes', but most of all the delightful conversations between Lady Stark and Johanna's young, feisty sister, Bridget. Such a great character. And the ethereal waftings of Callie! The Duke's still have a way to go in solving the mystery of their fathers' deaths, but they are now in possession of more information and we have Sebastian next! 💖💖💖💖
It is always the quiet, sweet ones, that turn into beasts in the bedroom. Now that that is out of the way, let’s get onto the plot. Even though the books in the series can be read as standalones, I think it would be better to read in order since there is an over-arcing story regarding the murder of the duke’s fathers. Matthew has an idiosyncrasy that makes him feel more in control of his life but little did he know. Golden writes the perfect person to ground Matthew. More than the romance, I really enjoyed the duke’s working out every thread of evidence thrown their way. One small piece of evidence leads to another one and another one. Who did this and what is the real reason they did it? Waiting on more leads.
I had way too much fun with this ARC featuring the Lord of Luck and Johanna!
Matthew’s journey was especially enjoyable because so much of his character revolves around learning to make decisions based on what he believes is right instead of relying on his lucky coin. Watching him navigate his growing feelings for his new wife, her family’s difficult situation, and the lingering mystery surrounding the deaths of his father and his friends’ fathers kept the story engaging throughout.
The romance, drama, and mystery balance each other really well, making this an easy, entertaining read that keeps the pages turning. And if you’re chasing those Bridgerton-style vibes, this series absolutely scratches that itch with all the charm, tension, and flair.
This is the 3rd book in the Indecent Dukes series and, even if it follows one couple and ends with a HEA, it should be read after the previous books in the series because there's a murder mystery plot through the series. I have been waiting for Johanna's story since the end of book 2 but I didn't know what to think of the Lord of Luck. I'll be blunt : I thought that Matthew's habit to flip his lucky coin every two minutes was very weird and annoying and I spent half the book wanting to throw his coin in the ocean. Then, the author being a master storyteller, I began to understand the addiction, even if Johanna figured that out before I did. The coin twist at the end of the book was very sweet and I enjoyed it very much. Now, I want more of Charlotte
I am loving this series. Each book just keeps getting better and better. I loved that Johanna was willing to do just about anything to help her family and loved that Matthew came to her rescue! These two just fit together so well. Matthew always used his lucky coin to help make his decisions, but some things change. Johanna was willing to sale her innocence to save her family. Matthew changed her life and the life of her family. I love that we get caught up on the other couples and friends in each book. Still very curious about who killed the Dukes. I am looking forward to Sebastians book next!
This is book 3 in the series and while there is an overreaching story arc, everything you need to know is included in this read, so don't worry if you haven't read the previous books. While I enjoyed this story and I liked the characters, it is a quieter, more gentle book than other historical books by this author. There is some great interaction between everyone but most of the drama is internal to the main characters which could lead some readers to find this uneventful or boring. What did frustrate me was that the one big point of drama in the story just sort of ended with no real resolution, which disappointed me. Overall though, this is a very enjoyable read.
Lady Johanna, the sister of an underage Earl was desperate. So desperate that she was willing to do anything to get the money her family needed to survive. But then she was rescued by Matthew, the Duke of St. Albans, aka The Lord of Luck, who flipped his lucky coin and took her for his bride. But what Johanna did not know until later was that her mother may information that Matthew needed to help solve his father's murder. Now the two will need to figure out how to trust each other enough to share confidences. Will that happen or will Matthew and Johanna's luck have run out?

This is a new-to-me author. This is the third book in the series. Thank you to the author Golden Angel for an advanced copy. Lillian - @lillianbookreviews on instagram
I enjoyed this well written romance. All the characters and including the ones from the previous series were great. I think that the writer did a great job of telling an interesting story which included a mystery with romance. The romance is a wonderful tale of two soul that obviously belong together. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A delicious well written steamy book for the most creative way to obtain a bride. She’s desperate, he needs a wife so he takes a chance, even or odd which will it be. Interesting storyline, acquiring a wife, solving a murder all with plenty of spice. Great read
The sweetest taboo. Angel is not afraid to break all the rules of romance to get to the heart of the matter. From boundary pushing to emotional depth, Johanna and her Duke are a force to be reckoned with.
