Carter and Mateo were inseparable—two boys bound by laughter, secrets, and a friendship that felt like forever. But forever shattered the day Mateo’s family was torn from their home and deported without warning. Carter was left behind, heartbroken and furious, determined to channel his grief into fighting for immigrant rights.
Years later, fate brings them back together. What began as childhood devotion has deepened into something more—something fragile, tender, and fierce. But in a country where I.C.E. raids loom like shadows, love is never simple. Every moment together feels stolen, every dream uncertain.
Carter and Mateo must navigate a world that tries to keep them apart while holding fast to a love that demands to be seen. Passionate, heartbreaking, and unflinchingly hopeful.

Excellent description of the chaos tormenting our country
This book told the story about everything that people are afraid to say. In today’s world there is so much turmoil and chaos regarding immigration in this country. So many families have been ripped apart and so many innocent people have been harmed. This was an excellent book and was very well written. Hopefully some time soon everyone will have love for one another and will see better times ahead.
This story is very powerful and emotional. Carter and Mateo are best friends. They do everything together and have even shared a kiss. They have dreams. Then one day Mateo isn't there. His family has been deported and even though Mateo was born here, he's sent away too. Eight years later, they are reunited. I teared up a bunch. And admired the courage and strength of these two.
