Another great history lesson.

Full of interesting stories from long ago to not so distant past. I personally lived through the Great Flood of 93, had just given birth to my first child and was separated from my entire family by that swollen river. My father held a key position in trying to save the levy in many different areas of the bottom roads and fields bear Highway 57 in Quincy. I was one of the first to make the short flight in a 7 passenger plane from Hannibal to Quincy to be able to see my family and introduce our newest addition to our family.

This book is a great combination of true stories of disappearances, murder, and disastrous happenings throughout the Midwest. The underlying themes were resilience and communities coming together to support each other, so good things came from all the sadness. I'm from IL like this author and grew up around the Sangamon River. I was glad to see it mentioned and would definitely read more from this author.

I’d call this book a jumping off point. Each chapter is about a different event and I was left wanting more. More pathology, forensics, criminology.
It could be great for someone wanting to do their own research. If you like this book and you like cold cases, check out the podcast Buried Bones. I’ve actually heard expanded versions of some of these cases by Kate Dawson and Paul Holes.
