I moved here to escape the devastation of giving up my track career. Except that means constantly running into…him. My brother’s best friend and teammate - who called our night together two years ago a mistake.
I try to avoid him at first, but then he proves he’s more than the playboy jock I’d assumed. Now he’s showing signs he’s interested again, and I have to wonder: should I risk another chance with him?
JOHNSON
I blew it with her two years ago. And now she’s living here, going to the same events as me and coming to our games to cheer on her brother. Impossible for me to miss.
Normally, I’d give it another shot but one thing hasn’t changed - she’s still my best friend’s little sister. I’m struggling to resist the draw to her, though. Could we explore our attraction in secret, without telling her brother?
RUNNING AFTER FOREVER is a steamy, 18+ romance and the second book in the Battles in Love series, which follows the Battle siblings across four interconnected standalones. Sports Romance - Pro Football Romance - Track & Field Romance - Running Romance - Brother's Best Friend - Secret Dating - He Falls First - Athlete x Athlete - Dual POV - Eldest Daughter Representation - No Third Act Break Up - Contemporary Romance - New Adult Romance
This was such a cute & fun story. I loved the writing style!! It made it easy to read through quickly and just made you fall so in love with these characters! I loved getting the flash back to Johnson and Grace in the begging to really feel the tension in their relationship from the start.
Brother’s best friend is always gonna pull me in & this one was done so well. I loved the bond these two had while growing closer for the business side, but also the absolute tension & angst of wanting each other but trying to hide it because of the forbidden aspect!
Grace was a sweet/ fun FMC & Johnson was a swoony MMC who was clearly smitten with her!!
Truly just a fun and easy read!
Thank you Luna literary & Kylie Skye for this gifted copy!!
"I’m not with Grace just for a good time. I think she might be my forever.”
5 stars, no rounding needed. This book, where do I even start? From the moment I met Grace and Johnson in Best Year Ever, I knew I NEEDED their story immediately and Running After Forever delivered it perfectly. I'm talking I got this book and immediately binged it until it was complete, I barely came up for air lol.
Oldest daughter? Check. No third act breakup? Check. Virgin trope? Check, and quite honestly the best one I've read of it. After an embarrassing start to their relationship journey with the hookup in collage, I loved watching Grace become this independent, not afraid to ask for what she wants, head strong, loving woman after she realizes she is in charge of herself and her desires. And then Johnson being so eager, yet patient and encouraging to guide her through it all, he really showed why he deserved to be her guy.
The tension of hiding their relationship from Landon was stressful towards the end, and I thought he maybe was a little overreactive about it all and held a grudge for way longer than what felt right but I loved the resolution and how it all wrapped up with them being the happy Battle family they are.
THANK YOU LUNA LITERARY FOR THE ARC! I cannot wait for Rawley's book!
Running After Forever (Battles in Love #2) - Kylie Skye ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Running After Forever was my first ARC experience and it has set my expectations so high!
I knew from the first chapter that I was absolutely going to love this book! It is the 2nd book in a connected series, but can definitely be read as a standalone! I did not read book one prior, but I still had a clear understanding of Landon and Rori’s relationship!
I loved how the story opened up with a flashback that left you on a cliffhanger about where the characters stood with one another. I was eager to see how their story would unfold, and the dual point of view helped to convey the longing and “what if” feeling that so many of us experience within real-life relationships. I loved the sports aspect of this romance, as it was explained in enough detail for those unfamiliar without taking up too much of the story.
Johnson Samuels gave me butterflies!!! His thoughtfulness and passion made him an MMC that you couldn’t help but love! I especially loved the FMC, Grace Battle, because we were able to watch her grow into a confident and strong woman. She felt so relatable and watching her navigate through life in her twenties was one of my favorite parts of this book!
The secret-relationship aspect of the story was timed perfectly as it didn’t feel too dragged out or rushed. Although, I wish we saw them navigate more challenges throughout the story, because I think it would add even more value to their relationship!
Overall, I really loved this book and am excited to read anything Kylie Skye releases! Thank you Luna Literary for this ARC!
* Thank you to the author, Kylie Skye and Luna Literacy for providing me with E-ARC, in exchange for an honest review*
It’s official, I’m in love with the Battles In Love series. I read Best Year Ever last year, and adored Landon and Rori’s story. However, I was curious about both Grace and Johnson since they were introduced in the first book, and I've been excited to read their story since Kylie announced it. Even though I loved Landon and Rori's book, I loved Grace and Johnson's story even more. I think that those two became one of my favorite couples. There's something about the two of them, and I think it's the connection that the two of them had, and how supportive they were of each other. Those two had me smiling most of the book.
I love the title, Running After Forever, which fits the story perfectly. I liked the fact that the story features a runner. Although I’m not a runner like Grace, and I do it primarily for fun, I feel like I could relate to the joy she got from running. I did worry about the two of them keeping a secret from Landon about what might happen if he found out before they got a chance to tell him. I liked how Grace and Johnson’s relationship developed throughout the book. I also liked reading from both Grace and Johnson’s perspectives.
I like the way Kylie describes everything, especially sports. Even if you're not into sports, the way she explains everything will be easy to understand. Both Grace and Johnson had outstanding character development in this book. This was one of those books where there wasn't a single scene that didn't keep my attention. I would read it in one sitting if not for school. I'm so glad I got to read this one. Kylie Skye is now my instant-read author; I can't wait for her next one.
Running After Forever (Battles in Love #2) – Kylie Skye ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I absolutely loved this book. While it’s the second in a connected series, it can easily be read as a standalone — I haven’t read the first book yet, but after this one I’ll definitely be tracking it down. I’m also really looking forward to seeing what’s next for the Battle family.
This story gave me all the feels. It had me giggling, invested, and constantly wanting to know what would happen next in Grace’s life. The relationship between Grace and Johnson was such a highlight — their chemistry felt natural, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable to read. I just loved them together.
Grace has moved to town to rebuild her life after the heartbreak of giving up her track career. What she doesn’t expect is to keep running into her brother’s best friend and teammate — the same man who called their night together two years ago a mistake. Determined to avoid him, Grace instead discovers there’s more to Johnson than the playboy jock image she’d assumed, and old feelings begin to resurface. The question is whether risking her heart again is worth it.
From Johnson’s point of view, regret has been lingering for two years. Now that Grace is back in his life — at games, events, and everywhere he turns — resisting her becomes nearly impossible. The only problem? She’s still his best friend’s little sister. As their attraction reignites, they’re forced to decide whether a secret relationship is worth the risk of everything blowing up.
This book ticks so many boxes: brother’s best friend, athlete x athlete, secret dating, he falls first, dual POV, and — best of all — no third-act breakup. It’s an 18+ contemporary romance with steamy scenes, plenty of heart, and a strong emotional connection.
If you enjoy sports romance, best friend’s brother dynamics, and relationships that feel supportive and fun rather than angsty, this one definitely deserves a spot on your TBR.

Running After Forever is Kylie Skye’s second book in the Battles for Love series. I was lucky enough to read both this book and the first as arcs.
This book featured the only Battle sister, Grace and her brother’s best friend and teammate Johnson. You kinda got to know them in Landon’s story and you could tell something was going to happen with them.
I like that they met back in college for a hot second and then post college is where they explored a relationship. I really loved that there was no third act breakup. Their story didn’t need that at all. I also liked that her two younger brother’s stories continued and you know who the next book will be about. Definitely a lot of spicy scenes.
ARC Review! This book was so cute! Bb’s first sports romance (I think?) and perfect that the FMC was a runner! (I’m currently trying to get back into running- wish me luck lol) The conflict and tension felt realistic and was resolved nicely at the end. Swoon!
First let me say thank you to Kylie Sky for the ARC of Running After Forever. The story was great. The romance played out in a believable time frame. It didnt feel rushed or unbelievable. The spice and wish list made me realize that I might need to make my own to send to my husband 😂. I loved seeing Grace grow in her self confidence and establish boundaries in her relationship with her mom, fellow oldest daughter I can attest those boundaries are hard to establish. I loved Johnson standing up for his sister and making sure she knew she wasn't alone when things fell apart in her life. I loved the on page bromance Johnson has with Landon but also other players on the team stand out. This is my first book by Kylie Sky but best believe I will be going back and reading book 1 in the series and following along to continue to read about the rest of the Battle siblings.

No rating. Both MCs meet two years prior and have a moment together (kiss and touch). Present day- while the h has not done it, she’s done everything else 😑 don’t like reading about OP.

From the very first chapter, I knew I was going to enjoy this one, and by the time I finished, it absolutely delivered everything I love about the brother’s best friend x little sister trope.
The dynamic between Grace and Johnson was so good. It had the perfect blend of sweetness, tension, and that delicious “we really shouldn’t… but we want to” energy that makes this trope so fun. Their journey felt authentic—from the innocent crushes, to the emotional buildup, to the moment things finally crossed the line. It had all the cuteness, the heart, and the progression you hope for when you dive into a romance like this.
I especially loved the twist with Grace being the virgin MMC and Johnson being the one to guide him through adult activities. It was handled with care, tenderness, and just the right amount of spice. Their chemistry was so natural, and Johnson’s mix of gentleness and confidence made the entire dynamic feel incredibly sweet and intimate.
One thing that really stood out to me was the pacing. The story didn’t feel rushed at all—the romance built realistically, giving the characters time to grow, connect, and learn each other. The emotional development was just as satisfying as the physical one, making their relationship feel earned rather than thrown together.
This was my first book by Kylie Skye, and she absolutely blew me away. Her writing style hooked me instantly, and the way she builds characters and relationships is truly impressive. She has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read more from her in the future.
Overall, this was a heartfelt, sweet, and perfectly-paced romance that gave me everything I wanted and more. So grateful I got to read it early! .
What you will find inside this book: Athlete (NFL) x Athlete (Track) Brother's Best Friend Secret Dating Virgin FMC Eldest Daughter Rep No Third Act break up
Thank you Luna Literay for this ARC, its official i am a massive Kylie Skye fan. Running after forever is the second book in the Battles in love series and i can savely say i love it just as much as the first book.
Kylie has an easy to read writing style while getting you invested in the characters hook line and sinker from the first page. This book can be read as standalone but i would recommend reading Best Year Ever first because its an awesome book.
We follow Grace, the eldest daughter of the Battle clan as she finds out there is more to her brothers best friend, Johnson than what she initially though. There is instant chemistry from page one but they take a while to get together. The internal struggle between Johnson's mind mantra saying "landon's sister OFF F*ING Limits" really struggles as his heart really wants to go there with her thus providing a great amount of yearning.
They both do a lot of growth as individuals and working through their own internal struggles with the support of one another when they finally start to secretly date and develop a deep meaningful relationship.
Both sport types (track running and nfl) is written well so even a non sport person would be able to easily follow what is happening.
The spice is again done extremly well especially the fact that Grace is a virgin and how she goes through self discovery and her sexual journey is done with a lot of care and respect. Its written as a dual pov and i love the fact that there is clearly a difference when Johnson talks and think (typical young 20 something year old male) compared to Grace (eldest daughter, has 3 brothers most likely always have to be the mature one) pov.
The pace of the story is perfectly done and keeps you invested but also not rushed (although i finished book in a day and a half- could not put down). Kylie also gets bonus point for mentioning midnights, sleep token, a man who knows what tropes are, a glimpse of grover and my favorite group chats oh and as extra bonus no third act break up (not that i mind those it was just refreshing)
I really really enjoyed this one! Running After Forever is the second book in the series but it can be read as a standalone (it does contain spoilers for book 1 though). Grace (the MFC) is a runner who is getting a degree in business and Johnson (the MMC) is a QB for an NFL team. I love that we get both characters POVs because it adds so much depth to the story. As the story goes on we get to see both MCs grow in their own sport, face challenges both internally (mental health) and externally (hello family drama), and get to meet a lot of really fun side characters. I think the secretly dating trope works fantastically in this book knowing that there is a high caliber athlete who wants privacy and that her older brother is his best friend so it would make sense that they want to keep things to themselves for a bit. It’s really interesting to see how challenges earlier in their lives affect how Grace and Johnson’s relationship progresses. Kylie has a fantastic way of balancing out the sports scenes, the funny aspects, and the more serious ones to make this story feel like you actually are taking a peak into someone’s life and not just reading a story. The chemistry (both romantic and friendly) between all of the characters is amazing and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Tropes/what to expect: Brother’s Best Friend Athlete x Athlete Secretly Dating Virgin FMC Eldest Daughter Rep Multiple POVs
Overall sweet story; no third act break up *friends to lovers* *brothers best friend* *sports romance* *secret relationship* *spicy lessons* It is a little on the longer side, but I like that there's no missing chunks of info or time. This is my first book by Skye, although the second in the series (and I will definitely be reading book one now). The series (Battles in Love) follows the stories of the Battle siblings. This follows Grace, the second oldest and only sister. Being the only (and by default, "eldest") daughter comes with a lot of challenges. Grace has always been a caretaker and balancing what she can on her shoulders. Thankfully, she grows a bit in the story to find a better balance. She never puts herself first, but starts to realize she should and finds the confidence to do so. Johnson is also very selfless, but also has things to work through. He's such a sweet, sweet MMC, but he will also make you blush! Grace and Johnson had a long road to get to each other, but no poignant trauma or tragedy in the storyline (which is nice sometimes). There is some off-page content warnings, which are listed on her website, so check that out if you have specific triggers. Book 3 comes out in a few months and I'm looking forward to it!

✨Arc Review✨ Running After Forever Book 2 Battles in Love Available Jan 22nd
What to Expect: ❤️Athlete (NFL) x Athlete (Track) 🏈Brother's Best Friend ❤️Secret Dating 🏈Virgin FMC ❤️Eldest Daughter Rep 🏈No Third Act Breakup ❤️Yearning
It’s a sweet, Hallmark worthy romance with swoony dates and a playful spicy checklist, I found it perfect for breaking up some heavier reads I’ve had lately.
This story follows Grace, who is a polite, people pleasing eldest daughter track star who’s spent her life living up to everyone else’s expectations…but finally she starts chasing what she wants and I was here for it! Enter her brother’s best friend, who she’s crushed on for the past two years Johnson. What follows is secret dating, stolen moments, and a refreshingly very mature romance that skips the dreaded third act breakup! 🙌🏼
I had a lot of fun with this one, though it fell a bit flat at times. I kept waiting for a big dramatic moment that never came, and the pacing felt a bit uneven at times…some parts dragged, while others flew by. I would’ve happily traded a little less football detail for more of that sweet picnic date.
That said, I’m officially invested in this family, and Grace’s siblings sound like an absolute blast. I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of the series.
If you’re in the mood for a feel good, low stress romance, this one’s for you. 💕 Thank you to the author and Luna Literacy for the arc.
Arc review 4.5 ⭐️ Running After Forever was so charming!! I had so much fun with the Battle family and their hilarious group texts, banter, competitive nature and of course supporting one another. I immediately fell in love with Gracie and I feel like so many women can relate to her character. While I am definitely not a track star (although she definitely inspired me to get back into running) I could really empathize with her as she constantly feels the need to please others. I can’t imagine a better man for Gracie than Johnson. I loved seeing him work to understand her, be a safe space for her and the way he made sure she felt seen. They had great communication throughout the whole story which I felt like lead to a lot of deep conversations that revealed these characters hearts and true connection. I especially loved seeing Gracie find her inner voice and learn to stand up for herself with the encouragement of Johnson. These two are just a powerhouse couple that handled conflict and challenges with grace and maturity. This was such a great sports romance novel with great chemistry, humor, banter and swoon worthy moments. I cannot wait to see what Kylie has in store for the other Battle siblings!
Running After Forever by Kylie Skye dual pov, athlete x athlete, sports romance story with main characters that suck you in. Grace and Johnson's story was beautiful! The chemistry, the yearning! Not to mention, they had a secret relationship going on which is a trope that entertains me every time. Thanks for allowing me to ARC read! 5 stars!
Admittedly, I was bored for a bit at first. The deeper into the story I got, the more I fell in love with it. It was definitely a 'slow start, strong finish' type of situation. With Grace, I found myself relating to her in a lot of ways. Her relationship with her mom, her siblings, and the overall eldest daughter struggles was something that I related to.
This book is one I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a good sports romance story! I'm looking forward to seeing Rawley's story in Book 3. Whenever I'm able, I would love to go back and read book 1 as well.
ARC review I have read Book 1 in this series (ARC copy as well). These books can be read as a standalone, but reading in order is great too! Kylie Skye's writing style is an easy, breezy, feel good read. Antecdotal thoughts while reading Grace - FMC, 3 football brothers, Princeton, track athlete, PA to NFL brother Johnson - MMC, NFL football player, former roommate to a brother of Grace's Nothing good comes from drinking and a game of Truth or Dare with only 1 other player....or does it?? Open door obviously due to the game. 🫣 Will Rawley be a chef post football career? Maybe book 3 in the series? I forgot about the "Better Together" anthem from book 1. Never leaving the house without your face on is a philosophy I have never lived by!! Johnson, I can think of a PA working on her business MBA. Maybe a co-chair the gala with you? Glad to see that the big, strong, rich football player thinks "Oh fuck" about getting a girl's phone number. Granted, it is a very specific girl, but still. 😄 Flashbacks to images in a hockey romance...get your head in the gala Grace. Emotional intimacy before phyiscal = nothing wrong with that. "special history" 😆 Seasoned co-chairs trying to play matchmakers??? Johnson can be Grace's cheerleader/supporter? She takes care of so many other people, who takes care of her? 🤯 Did Johnson just ask about tropes???? Hurricane solidification Battle Business Manager in the future?? Calm down Landon. You got to figure things out with Rori. No f'in way....Rawley!!! Johnson, way to support your girl!
*ARC Review* I really enjoyed this story. It was so sweet and my favorite thing was the patience that went along with the story. Other than the whole NFL pro athletes thing it felt like a very realistic love story in terms of pacing and how they grew as a couple. Definitely a feel good story.
“Running After Forever” is the second book in the “Battles in Love Series.” Johnson Samuels is the Quarterback, aka QB1, for the Orlando Waves and Landon Battles best friend. They both played together at University of Alabama. Grace Battle is Landon’s only sister and he is very protective of her. The night before the pair are both drafted to the Waves, Johnson and Grace have a hot and heavy encounter that leave them both wanting more until she tells him that she is still a virgin….”I’m sorry, Grace. I should never have let this happen.”One of his major rules is that his teammates cannot date her! “And who cares anyway.…because you’ll never see Johnson Samuels again.”
That was just over two years ago….now Grace is back. “Now, there’s a softness to her, her curves noticeably filled out a little over the last couple of years.” Grace still runs all the time, and she’s undeniably super fit with long, lean lines….Johnson has not forgotten that night! He has to practice stuffing the attraction down….”Landon’s sister. Landon’s sister. Off-limits.” Summer cannot help but notice the change in Johnson as well….”Johnson is all man now, and that college boy I knew is gone. It’s not only his being even more chiseled after two years in the NFL, muscles popping out of his Waves t-shirt, physical strength radiating off him.”
Johnson and Grace are both struggling with their feelings towards each other out….”There’s no blocking you out, Grace. Not when I know you’re open to seeing what’s between us too. Now, all I can think about is getting to know you better, and when I can see you next.” They decide to keep their relationship a secret and get to know each other first. Each wondering how Landon will react when or if they make it official. I love these two together - they bring out the best in each other. It is so sweet 🩷
There is never a dull moment! This book is everything you expect from a sports romance with a touch of alpha male thrown in. I’m very happily hooked - I did not want it to end! Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. You will fall in love with Johnson and Grace ♥️
I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story, with all the ups, the downs, the friendship, the heartaches and most of all, what love can overcome. From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊
Running After Forever is the second (#2) book in the BATTLES IN LOVE series
Following a devastating incident that caused her to give up her promising track career, Grace Battle moves to Orlando, to be nearer her brother and attend business school. The only problem with spending more time with her brother is Johnson Samuel’s, his best friend and teammate. After a fumbled encounter that Johnson called a ‘mistake’ Grace has gone out of her way to avoid him.
Johnson Samuel’s knows he blew it the last time he saw Grace, and boy does he regret it, but he knows his friendship with Grace’s brother and the team dynamics would be at risk if he tried to rekindle anything with Grace.
A# the pair spend more time together their friendship progresses but can they continue continue to explore their relationship in secret??
——————————— This delightful read was my first by Kylie Skye. Although I haven’t read the first in the series I didn’t have any issues following this one as they are all comfortable standalones in their own right.
Both main characters are engaging - Grace with her self deprecating, kind and thoughtful manner and Johnson with his considerate, patient and generous nature. I loved that Johnson was careful of Graces innocence and didn’t push her to do anything she didn’t want to. Also his altruistic approach to donating huge amounts of money, and his willingness to do anything for his family. I loved how Grace matured throughout the story to the point that she was able to stand up for herself against her mother.
Although I know pretty much nothing about the sports included in this book, they were very well written so I was able to follow along easily. There was alot of detailed descriptions of the sports included which shows the author is either very knowledgeable or did her research well.
Although I enjoyed the slow progression of Grace and Johnson’s relationship there were some parts that I felt dragged out, hence the 4star review.
There are a lot of open door, spicy scenes but I didn’t feel these were gratuitous, rather they helped highlight the progression of their relationship.
With a cute couples cover and good editing, this is an engaging read.
With thanks to Luna Literary and Kylie Skye for an early read of this book. All comments are my own, honest, unbiased opinion.
🏃🏽♀️ Sports Romance 🏃🏽♀️ Brothers Best Friend 🏃🏽♀️ Slow Burn 🏃🏽♀️ Super Spicy 🔥🔥🔥🔥 🏃🏽♀️ Dual POV 🏃🏽♀️ Secret Dating 🏃🏽♀️ No Third Act Breakup
Thank you for the ARC! This review is my honest thought.
This is the second book in the series, and it gives us the chance to get to know Grace and Johnson more deeply. Grace is a runner, and Johnson is a football player. And to make things even better, he’s her brother’s best friend.
You don’t need to read the first book to enjoy this one, but it does offer glimpses of Grace and Johnson earlier in the series. What I especially loved is that the timelines overlap, allowing familiar moments to be seen from a new perspective. It added depth to their story and made the world feel more connected and immersive.
I was hooked from the prologue alone. Grace is a second child but the firstborn daughter: competent, sharp, and quietly vulnerable, with layers that hint at complicated family dynamics beneath her strength. One of my favourite elements was how relatable Grace’s experience of being highly competent felt: the expectations, the people-pleasing, the pressure, and the quiet exhaustion that comes with it. As a firstborn daughter myself, I resonated strongly with Grace’s struggles, and the author captures that balance of strength and vulnerability with remarkable accuracy. It felt honest, validating, and incredibly well written.
I loved how we’re introduced to Johnson as a vulnerable man carrying his own struggles. The way he fills his time to avoid returning to an empty house hit close to home: it was honest and deeply relatable. I really appreciated that the author didn’t shy away from portraying the loneliness Johnson experiences; it felt refreshing. I did find myself wishing we could explore Johnson’s struggles with his father in more depth, but I also understand and appreciate that this wasn’t meant to be his central conflict. Even so, it added another meaningful layer to his character.
I also really appreciated seeing the same moments from both POVs. I think it added so much depth and understanding to their dynamic and the story itself.
Something I appreciate about Kylie Skye's writing is how beautifully she writes vulnerability. I could feel both Johnson’s and Grace’s internal struggles clearly; it made for a refreshing read.
Also! I love a girl with a list 😉🔥… and a man who anticipates his girl’s needs? Absolute swoon.
This book left me with the warmest, fuzziest feeling. I loved every minute of it.

Tropes: * New adult * Sports romance (Pro Football x Track & Field) * Brother’s best friend * Golden retriever MMC * Sweet virgin FMC * Secret dating * Found family
Let’s preface this in that we have a sweet read, with NO third-act break-up, which instantly makes me feel better about reading it.
This was a cute, sweet, fun, enjoyable (take your pick!) story, and I adored both Jognson and Grace. They ‘hooked up’ 2 years earlier, and he basically ran when she admitted she was a virgin. So at that point, I wasn’t sure….
But, the next chapter brings us to the present, and a gorgeous story starts to emerge.
I did still find myself frustrated at times, as a few plot points that are absolutely predictable in these stories continue to drive me up the wall… My immediate thoughts on these while reading (at the time of reading)…. I kid you not, I stopped and wrote them down!
“His hesitation isn’t about you.” Correct. It’s because, at the time, he valued your brother more… Even though he’s supportive when she tells him part of her trauma, she’s still second to his best friend. He wants her, but he values everything else more. She was semi neglected by her family - expectation of competence and ‘not needing support’ led to a complete disregard of the events in her life, and despite being ‘super-close’, they had no idea of what she had faced! Grace went out of her way to help her brother Landon’s relationship, but he’s directly and indirectly blocking her, and being an a-z about her happiness, making it about how he feels….
Now that I have my rant out of the way…
I actually really enjoyed this. Once the silly angsty, push-pull bit got out of the way, they were amazing. The support, and bonding during the business side of things, and then when they finally gave in… The list - hilarious, sweet and a bit swoonworthy - the virginity trope was actually managed quite well - and it didn’t hurt that Johnson ended up being a bit of a golden retriever.
The battles (get it) that Grace faced, how she dealt with it, and then how she supported others made me so happy when she got her second chance at her dreams… And honestly? The way that Kylie Skye dealt with it was downright amazing…
Super happy with this story, and I can’t wait for Rawley!
Thanks Kylie and Luna Literary for the opportunity to read!
I love a good brother’s best friend trope, and Kylie Skye absolutely understood the assignment. I’ve read a few lately where the brother’s reaction is wildly over the top once he finds out his best friend is dating his sister. Without spoiling anything, Grace’s brother reacts exactly how I think he should, which was refreshing and honestly made the story even more enjoyable.
Once I started this book, I had a hard time putting it down. I did receive the ARC right before heading to New York City for my birthday, which explains why this review took forever to post, but trust me, it was worth the wait. This is a great pick if you love sports romance, especially with two athlete main characters, a brother’s best friend setup, and a virgin trope.
I’m usually a little iffy on the virgin trope, but I really appreciated how it was handled here. It wasn’t about innocence or religion. It was about Grace making her own choices on her own terms. I loved how that played out in the story, especially as someone who is very far removed from that stage of life. It felt empowering and thoughtful, and honestly kind of comforting. Not everyone has a great first experience, so seeing a story that centers agency and control over one’s own pleasure was really nice.
I also loved how much of the sports background was woven into the story for both Johnson and Grace. I don’t know much about running since I only do it if someone is chasing me, so getting pulled into the track and field and cross country world was surprisingly fun. Watching Grace find her way back to Johnson after meeting him years earlier and then losing touch added a really sweet layer to the romance.
Side note: I’m an Alabama fan, so the University of Alabama references were truly chef’s kiss.
Overall, this was an easy five star read for me. It was exactly what I needed after some heavier books. Not every story needs to be super deep to be meaningful. These lighter, fluffier romances can still carry emotional weight, real life hurt, and relatable trauma, just wrapped in a cuter, cozier package. That balance really worked for me here.
Running after forever is a sports romance book that actually goes into great depth about the MC’s respective sports. We follow Johnson and Grace through their journey with sports, their careers, dealing with family drama, and of course, getting together even though Johnson is her brother’s best friend (so much yearning).

Review I felt like this book was a real life, sweet, romance book that wasn’t overindulgent in the romance department. The author went into good detail about their careers in sports, about the challenges they face with family and mental health, and how that shaped them as people. We got to know our supporting characters really well (awesome side characters), and spent lots of time both on the football field and the track Field. Both of our MCS are truly wholesome people that want to do good in the world and who are very committed to their families. The FMC being a virgin has an important role in the book, as we get to follow her sexual awakening (which again is not over done). I don't know if there is a lot of character growth from both MC's, but we do really get to know them as people and it's a lovely journey to follow.
There was only one or two editing mistakes, otherwise the book was nicely written, the plot flowed really well, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a sweet, real life, sports romance book.
Why four versus five stars I didn’t feel that there was a lot of emotional grit in their relationship. The main characters go through a lot outside of their relationship, but in general, it almost seems too easy. And I felt like we spent almost too much time focused outside of their relationship.
This is the second book in the Battle Brothers series, and it’s just as enjoyable as the first! This time, the spotlight is on Grace, the only Battle sister, who is trying to keep her relationship with Johnson, her brother’s best friend and teammate, under wraps. Naturally, things get complicated as feelings develop, and Grace doesn’t want her protective older brother, Landon, to find out. Meanwhile, Johnson’s internal struggle of balancing his feelings with team dynamics adds another layer of tension.
What I Loved: • The secret relationship trope works really well here, especially with the added tension of the brother/best-friend/teammate dynamic. It feels real, grounded, and relatable. • The sports elements, particularly all the football and running moments, are seamlessly woven into the plot. They help define who Grace and Johnson are and even influence their decisions throughout the book. • The history between Grace and Johnson, rooted in an event from two years ago, creates a rich emotional backdrop for their interactions. • Johnson’s internal battle as he’s clearly falling first but trying to stay cool about it is endearing. • Grace’s struggle to protect herself emotionally while also trying to maintain her relationship with her brother feels so authentic and relatable. • Both characters dealing with their family issues in different ways adds depth to their personalities and explains some of their actions and choices.
Kylie’s ability to balance the sports, family drama, and romance without one element overwhelming the others is impressive. It makes the story feel well-rounded and engaging. I also loved that Grace gets to step out of her brother’s shadow here, finally becoming her own character rather than just being “Landon’s sister” or “assistant.”
Overall, this book continues to build on the charm of the series, and I can’t wait for the next one. Kylie’s writing is easy to read, and I’m really looking forward to the next Battle brother’s story!
2 years ago Grace and Johnson, her brothers roommate and best friend, had a secret makeout sesh in his dorm. Upon admitting she was a virgin, Johnson froze up and wasn't able to fix things before Grace's brother showed up. Since then, she's wanted nothing to do with the now NFL Quarterback.
He becomes impossible to ignore though when her younger brother, visiting from out of town, begs her to join him at Johnsons house so they can practice some football. They have their first real conversation in 2 years and Grace is left thinking she might have made the wrong assumptions about him this whole time. Johnson has always regretted how thay night went in college and jumps at an opportunity to help Grace out, helping her get set up with a charity event through the football team that counts as her final project for a sports business class. The more they see each other, the harder it is for Johnson to resist, and the clearer it becomes for Grace that she had Johnson all wrong. They eventually give in to their feelings for each other but decide to hide it from everyone to avoid upset with her brother and the football team if things don't work out short term.
This was an ok read, however I didn't feel like the characters really had any depth. Grace barely had a personality and their feelings toward each other felt too rushed and intense. I also felt like there was a lot of filler that could have easily been taken out to make the book shorter and easier to read through. More focus on the characters depth would have been more helpful than detailed writing on every insignificant thing about the characters days.
Thank you to Luna Literary and the author for allowing me to read and review, all opinions are my own.
