The DEATH by Amelia Waddell, a young adult fantasy novel
"At the school of DEATH anything can happen. Kids fight demons. Break each other's bones in training...accidentally of course. Fires start all the time. Dreams and nightmares become a reality. I don't know why I didn't expect someone covered in blood to show up at the door."
In this enticing YA fantasy, Dawn Shadows considers herself to be a sassy rebel. She is one of the most powerful Guardians to ever exist, training at the school of DEATH. The pressure is on her to be more. Her reckless nature has gotten her in trouble more times than she can count. When a figure from her mom's past comes knocking on the door, her whole world turns upside down. With the help of her fellow Guardians, including her best friend Luke. They try to uncover what really happened to her mom, while exploring their unexplained magical connection. Sinister secrets are revealed and even more corrupt villains. Will Dawn be able to protect those she holds most dear or will the truth consume her?
I have to say that I am impressed with this book. The storyline is great. The moment I started reading, I could not put it down. I even bypassed doing something just to stay reading. I was hooked
I enjoyed the sassiness of the FMC. She is fierce and unapologetic. She needs it for what she has endure within this book. I loved all of the supporting characters and how they end up evolving and growing through the book.
This book is a good combination of “Shadow Hunter” and “Shadow and Bone” I look forward to book 2.
DEATH is a fun debut novel with plenty of twists and turns to keep you entertained! You can feel how much the author loves this story and this world. Each of the characters feel so real and have chemistry the author is clearly comfortable writing. Even after reading, I have no idea who the main character is going to end up with, and I’m intrigued! I’m also a sucker for main characters having to fight the evil inside of them…interested to see where this leads in the future!
Fast paced and exciting story, lots of twists and turns.
Well written with a balanced arc, this book has proven to be the perfect late night read before bed. The fast paced and action packed scenes with the creative use of magic feels like watching a friend's DND game in my head. Dawn reminds me of someone very special and important to me and I can't wait to see what's in store for her next.
What a treat to dive into this world! A great pace to the book, a cast of rich characters and total bad ass FMC! The action, the plot, the world building are all so compelling. I’m incredibly excited to see what happens in the next book!
